Well, you've read the notes, the notes had memories of two movies, and now it is time for you to post until the two cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: STENTORIAN!
-
Topic of the Day: I got into the habit of only getting my hair cut usually once or twice (or maybe three times) a year because I do theater and want to give the director options for my hair style, even if no one else seems to do that. ::)

I generally get my hair trimmed once or twice a year.
I only have it “done” if it’s a special occasion….the last time was the Vixter’s wedding in 2019.
Otherwise I just do it myself.

Good morning, all!
-
I slept so poorly last night that when the alarm rang at 6:00 I slept in for another hour. The cats were supportive, and Thatch came to sleep with me. Now, of course, I'm an hour behind my usual schedule, and that's an hour I need todday for the ballet work. Damn!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
DR vixmom, thanks for the WFO update.
-
Is a Wagner soprano stentorian? I suppose so...
-
DR George, I lose copies of my birth certificate regularly. I seem to be constantly using the internet to access another copy. The last one I needed was to apply for food stamps last June, I think.
-
Good morning, all.
-
BK, now that I know about Prime Suspect, I want to see it.

Fascinating ruminations in today's Notes.
-
It makes me curious to see those films, too.
-
I now understand why it took a long time to write the Notes.

TOD:
Before the pandemic, I used to get my hair cut once a month. It seems to grow at an alarming rate.
Now, I don't go out, so maybe once every 3 months. And at home, by the DH. It's definitely not a professional job. :)

BK, now that I know about Prime Suspect, I want to see it.
Agree. If only it had starred Helen Mirren.

I think my hair was longest in the 1970s. I had stopped cutting it sometime around 1969 in grad school. I used to waer it in a pony tail that I tucked under my hat for work. As my thinning hair went from sad to tragic, I finally decided to cut it short/ I think that may have been around 1977or so. During the pandemic, I didn't cut it between January and September 2020 - I'm so happy I have my calendar and tax records from 2020! - and then I got it cut again in November. I remember that early in the pandemic my barber of 20 years called to tell me he was retiring and the shop at Radio City was closing. My September haircut was with my new barber, a block away from my apartment.

Well, dear DRs, I am happy and relieved to report that we came through the Half Hour Blizzard of 2023 unscathed!
The city had been holding its collective breath on this one. We had, after all, had that one snowfall back in December which had required one pass with the plow and a few minutes of shovel-scraping next to the garage. So we knew we were overdue for one, and it had been forecast that we could get one to three before it turned to rain and left us with a slushy mess requiring much time and effort in cleanup.
At 2:45 pm yesterday it started, coming down surprisingly fast and accumulating rapidly on the grass and trees. And then the dreaded covering of the asphalt began. At this rate, we would most certainly have that couple of inches before it would turn to rain and bring disaster.
I made a phone call and returned to my book. At about five after three I looked up at the window and it seemed like the rate of snowfall had slowed. I kept eyeing that, and honestly couldn’t see the snowfall from my chair, so a few minutes later I got up and walked to the front door. It had stopped snowing, and the driveway had completely cleared itself. It was a solid black stretch of asphalt. The temperature was already close to 40 and was to rise steadily throughout the evening. Nothing further happened.
The End
-
My hair was longest from around 1969-70 to maybe about 1975, reaching my shoulders but I never even thought of doing the ponytail or anything. At its best it allowed my already thinning hair to look a little more interesting, but I never had any kind of decently full-bodied head of hair in the first place. I’d have to look through pictures, and I believe there aren’t that many of me in those years. At some point I started growing a beard, but I’m thinking that was just after the “long” hair. But I stuck with some kind of facial hair off and on for years, finally giving that up completely in the 1990s.
-
Okay, that’s enough of me. More than enough. I must get to work. Later!
-
Oh, forgot —
I don’t recall how often I got haircuts, it was when I felt the need for it, and I probably always waited too long. I’m very glad those days are over. My male pattern baldness progressed rapidly, and in the late 1990s I bought a professional quality clipper and have been running that over my head, free of charge, ever since. Easy peasy. No muss, no fuss. In and out. One and done. Bob’s your uncle. Wait, how did he get in there?
-
Onward!
-
Two!
-
I didn’t get my hair cut during the pandemic. It got fairly long and I liked it.
-
I think I am going to avoid getting it cut for a while.
-
I have never dyed my hair, which is now gray around my face and brown at the back. I sometimes don’t recognize myself in photos of me from behind.
-
I have accomplished all my household chores and I can sit down and orchestrate the Introduction to the ballet. Last night, after I gave the cats their night treat @ 6:00, I sat down to score the last six bars of No. 26. Within 15 minutes, I had Stella lying down on the back of the TV case, Annabelle lying on my score paper, and Thatch in my lap. Times is hard, Mrs. Lovett.
-
Before I forget!
;)
-
Great interesting notes!
-
Hair cut and Proofing vibes for MR BK.
-
Hair.....what is that?
My hair was probably the longest in high school - but that wasn't very long.
I haven't had a lot of hair on top since my early 20's.....so I've always worn it short.
One of my sisters cuts my hair and its usually about every six or eight weeks.
-
There was a dusting of s**w last night - but the streets and sidewalks did not suffer.
-
From Vixmom:
So hope my next visit with him will be at his home
Vibes he will be home by the time you return from Florida.
-
DR George, congratulations on purging and organizing your belongings.

We are seeing the sun today here. I am happy. It's been a while.
-
DR John G. - did you drown your sorrows in a pink martini as penance?
-
I should follow DR George's lead - I have a lot of purging to do.
-
I'm waiting for better weather before the purge starts.
-
My State Tax Return has been accepted. My Federal Return was accepted about a week ago......so I am square with the governments.
-
Last night I started William Styron's Set This House On Fire.
It is most enjoyable. The chapters are much shorter than those in Lie Down In Darkness.....
I like the story, too.
-
DR George, congratulations on purging and organizing your belongings.
Thanks, Jane, but it's not done yet...I'm just getting started.

My September haircut was with my new barber, a block away from my apartment.
After 202 years, who could blame him?
-
We are seeing the sun today here. I am happy. It's been a while.
I know how good the sun feels after not seeing it for awhile.
-
DR George, congratulations on purging and organizing your belongings.
Thanks, Jane, but it's not done yet...I'm just getting started.
But you started which is more than I have done. Well, I do keep up with the recycling ;)
-
I'm up, I'm up - five hours of sleep.

Slow news day on HHW.
Does anyone have any slow news?
-
LOL, nope.
-
I could answer the TOD.
-
;)
-
While not exactly weird, it was a haircut I never would have agreed to. What I agreed to was for the hairdresser to cut off MOST of my blond ends off.
-
He got carried away and left me looking like Twiggy, except no longer blond. Everywhere I went guys kept commenting on how I looked like her.
-
I hated it so much I never let my photo be taken. I am sorry now I don't have a photo.
-
Finally it was below my shoulders for our wedding. I might have gotten it shaped a little bit by my mother's hairdresser, before the wedding. He also did my hair just that morning.
-
After that it was years before I went to a hairdresser again. Keith would trim the ends for me.
-
These days I probably get my hair done around every three months.
-
Some styles do better at two months.
-
If I want my hair longer I can go four months or more.
-
Not getting my hair cut during the pandemic wasn't a big deal to me, except I had to learn how to cut my bangs.
-
;)
That is so perfect.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I've been very busy doing Things That Must Be Done (TTMBD). You know the kind. One derives little or no pleasure from them and the best that can be said is, "Well, that's done."
-
Today the handyman came by to look at my damaged kitchen ceiling. When the manager arranged the meeting she implied that she would be there. I spent considerable time tidying, cleaning, tossing, and so on, only to learn that she would not be here. Sigh. It all needed to be done anyway, but it's a bit annoying.
-
I hate such implications DR JEANNE - especially if they lead to work.
-
The handyman and I are in sync as to what we think should be done, but we don't have the authority to do it. If the manager again says that she wants to tear out the ceiling she'll have a fight from me, as she has had in the past. I abhor the lack of consideration that is shown to tenants. Hopefully, she and the owner will agree to our proposal.
-
I am quite worn out from these hassles. I find that fixing things right -- the FIRST time -- saves you both money and annoyance in the long run. But I'm probably in the minority.
-

I prefer that she not be here, but I would have liked to have known. >:( Grrr.
-
Vibes to TCB, Elmore, John G, and all the rest of you.

Sadly that is probably true.

Congratulations, DR Jrand72.
-
I have no slow news.
-
I'm not even a sloe-eyed vamp.
-
Well, I suppose that's for others to say.
-
Great cartoon, DR elmore3003.

Cute.

Thursday evening greetings! Richard had a previously-scheduled dental appointment today and he drove there (and back) himself.
-
Yesterday he had a previously-scheduled eye appointment and I drove, as I would have whether he’d been in the hospital last week or not. Neither of us likes to drive after our eyes have been dilated. He gets to reciprocate on March 22.
-
And I knew yesterday he was feeling better when he wanted to go to the diner we like in Sharonville for a gyro and fries. He’s eating almost normally now.
-

It sounds like he is doing much better :)
-
And I knew yesterday he was feeling better when he wanted to go to the diner we like in Sharonville for a gyro and fries. He’s eating almost normally now.
It didn't bother him to eat that? If not, he is definitely doing better.

We don't like to either but we usually do. I am always happy for cloudy days after having my eyes dilated.
-
I just realized I hadn't transferred the clothes from the washing machine to the dryer.
-
I never heard the timer go off.
-
It seems that the machine went off after I left the room and the clothes didn't get washed.
-
I will wash them tomorrow.
-
Now I can add the sweatshirt I am wearing. Finding a stain on it is what reminded me about the clothes in the washing machine ;D
-

He was doing fine until tonight’s dinner. I hope he didn’t overdo it.
-
A small setback from eating that too soon. I expect he will back where he was tomorrow.
-
Glad that DH Richard is recovering so well.
-
Watched an American Masters documentary on Los Trocaderos de Monte Carlo.
-
It doesn't appear that either of the movies mentioned in today's Notes are available to stream anywhere.
-
'night
-
Good night, friends.
-
Running around trying to ge5 everything ready for the trip
-
Nature decided to help us by bringing on heavy rain and wind last night
-
Some water in the basement
-
Some siding blown off ( of course) the second story
-
Yay.
-
Safe travels, vixmom.
Have a wonderful time in Florida with The Vixter.
-
A small setback from eating that too soon. I expect he will back where he was tomorrow.
He seems OK now - whew!
-
DR John G. - did you drown your sorrows in a pink martini as penance?
Negroni and a four-course dinner. I love Restaurant Weeks.
-
;)
That is so perfect.
Ain’t it da truth?
-
Insanely busy day today.
-
Except for lunch. I met a friend at a chi-chi new place called Restaurant Claudine.
-
It’s in a renovated house and dinners can get up to $500 a person.
-
So naturally I jumped at the Restaurant Weeks special $30 menu.
-
Five!
-
The food was great. I had a crab beignet, a salad with heirloom tomatoes and fresh dill, and a French dip with housemade chips.
-
Gail had cornbread with something called smoked wallflower butter, the house salad and fried chicken over mashed potatoes.
-
We split an excellent order of smoked trout dip.
-
Service was monumentally slow. I guess the people who can afford to go there don’t work for a living.
-
I had budgeted 30 minutes to get there, an hour or so for lunch, and 20 back.
-
If I hadn’t spoken up, lunch would have been 2+ hours.
-
Also today was cold. It was in the 40s outside and the inside of the restaurant didn’t seem heated.
-
I left my coat on but could still feel a draft on my feet.
-
Who knows when I will go back.
-
Dance class tonight was mostly fun. Last night of the month and many of the students say they’ll be returning.
-
I got to listen to a chunk of my latest audiobook, Salka Valka. It’s an Icelandic novel from Iceland by Halldor Laxness. Great stuff, but 19 hours long. I’m only a third of the way into it.
-
I’m now chilling out to an album of jazz artists performing Bernstein. A lot from West Side Story and On the Town. Bobby Scott, Billy Eckstine, Carmen MacRae, Sarah Vaughan and many more.
-
Oscar Peterson’s Somewhere may be my favorite. And Mel Torme singing Lucky to Be Me.
-
I have blathered on enough.
-
Time to ice my hand.
-
Tomorrow I judge a barbecue competition.
-
In the cold.
-
And I knew yesterday he was feeling better when he wanted to go to the diner we like in Sharonville for a gyro and fries. He’s eating almost normally now.
Very good news, Ginny!
-
It’s in a renovated house and dinners can get up to $500 a person.
Yikes!! :o
-
So naturally I jumped at the Restaurant Weeks special $30 menu.
Smart move!
-
Hi, George!
-
Tomorrow I judge a barbecue competition.
Saturday, I'm ushering for the Miss Thurston County pageant. ::)
-
I don’t have the energy to move us off this page.
-
Hi, George!
Hi, John!
-
I don’t have the energy to move us off this page.
We're getting close.
-
Tomorrow I judge a barbecue competition.
Saturday, I'm ushering for the Miss Thurston County pageant. ::)
As opposed to the Miss Thurston Howell Competition?
-
I hope the winner looks better than Jim Backus in drag.
-
Page five? Really?
-
Okay, let’s go.
-
Push!
-
Six!
-
Had a lovely haircut and finally look like a normal human bean.
-
Good night, all.
-
Listening to Nino Rota's Fellini music.
-
Unique.
-
It is 12:42 a.m. in Johnston, SC.
-
Felt like cheap food so did Jack in the Box, a few assorted items. Proofed another forty pages.
-
Found nothing to watch.
-
Nothing.
-
Not a single thing.
-
I'm just gonna start watching Blu-rays.
-
I need a haircut in the worst way.
That means I practically have to wet it down each morning to be presentable.
I'd much rather just run a washcloth over my head and be done with it for the day.
I also haven't shaved in a week.
I am sloth run amok.
-
Tomorrow I judge a barbecue competition.
Saturday, I'm ushering for the Miss Thurston County pageant. ::)
As opposed to the Miss Thurston Howell Competition?
Fortunately, yes. ;D
-
Tonight, I went to a staged reading of George Bernard Shaw's Misalliance.
-
I knew half the cast, so that was fun.
-
It lasted just under two hours with no intermission, but it didn't dramatically all, and it was very funny!
-
And now, a friend from out of state wants to video chat, so I'll be video chatting for a while.
-
Well, the video portion of the chat is over, but we're still text/chatting.
-
Page six? Really?
-
Slow day at HHW
-
When I was a kid, I had to be taken to the barber kicking and screaming. Literally! My poor mother. I have no idea what childhood phobia I had about getting my hair cut
-
Looking back, I can see myself doing it, but I have no sense of why I was afraid of how I had such fear of going to the barber. But I can remember the bloodcurdling screams.
-
As an adult, I hate to go, because it seems like such a waste of time. I hate having to make small talk with the barber. I wish they would just let me sit. There have them cut it and get me out of there. Oh well, maybe I should try screaming again.
-
Let’s get going.
-
What’s the rush?
-
OMFG!! :o
Florida teachers told to remove books from classroom libraries or risk felony prosecution (https://popular.info/p/florida-teachers-told-to-remove-books).
-
What the effing eff??
-
What the hell is wrong with those Florida repugs??
-
But now, since we're so close...
-
PAGE SEVEN DANCE!!
-
It has been a year since I’ve had a haircut. If you could see it, you would believe it!
-
My mother leaves were Hawaii in the morning.
-
I wish I was going.
-
How is this Florida crap not actionable in a court of law. How can it not be challenged? This should be challenged immediately and be taken to the Supreme Court if necessary. So, these morons think children are being groomed to leftist ideologies, but what are they doing but grooming children to right wing ideologies?
-
I think she’s going to Maui. I love Maui. I’m not crazy about Honolulu.
-
Page seven seems light.
-
Seattle with palm trees.
-
I have never been to Hawaii.
-
Is George still texting?
-

Exactly! THEY are the ones harming children!
-
Or has he gone down a rabbit hole?
-
I do love going to Pearl Harbor.
-
Is George still texting?
Not anymore.
-
Florida is a joke and this should not be allowed. And the parents who are allowing it should be ashamed of themselves except these morons have no shame.
-
My mother leaves were Hawaii in the morning.
Tom, I don't understand this sentence. :-\
-
People should be up in arms about it. The teachers seem to be. And vetting books? Right-wingers vetting books? Who's vetting the right-wingers?
-
Did you know that page eight is waiting in the wings?
-
People should be up in arms about it. The teachers seem to be. And vetting books? Right-wingers vetting books? Who's vetting the right-wingers?
No one. They're "volunteers."
-
As am I.
-
Gratuitous Post #200!!
-
My mother leaves were Hawaii in the morning.
Tom, I don't understand this sentence. :-\
I don’t understand that sentence either. I think I must’ve fallen asleep there.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
They were shorter than yesterday's notes.
-
Thank you, George for catching that.
-
George catches everything.
-
My mother leaves were Hawaii in the morning.
Tom, I don't understand this sentence. :-\
I don’t understand that sentence either. I think I must’ve fallen asleep there.
Do you remember what you might have been trying to say?

Unless he's down a rabbit hole.

Page eight has made its entrance.
-
IT'S FINALLY PAGE EIGHT!!
-
And just in time.
-
Or Justin Thyme? ;)
-
I love that song. :)
