Well, you've read the notes, the notes were titled, and now it is time for you to post until the titled cows come home - that would include Sir Cow, Lady Cow, the Earl of Cow, and the Lord of Cow.
-
And the word of the day is: INSTANTANEOUS!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I lst about 30 minutes this morning. which is he;;. I have no AC, it's 79 degrees at 6:00 and the humidity is around 80%, and the internet is down. I thought it was on my end, so I spent too much time crawling around the floor. I finally called Spectrum, spoke to a nice man named Jonathan, He reset the modem, and I now have internet.
-
I am uncomfortable, overheated, and drenched in sweat. Color me thoroughly miserable.
-
I have much to do before Access-a-Ride picks me up for my appointment with Dr Potters, who will look at the results of yesterday's PSA test and tell me where my prostate cabcer situation stands.
-
I hope everything with AAR runs smoother than yesterday.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Vibes for Elmore.
-
Notes requisitioned. Sequestered.
-
More vibes for Elmore. One step at a time.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
~~~MUCHO VIBES~~~ for DR elmore3003!!!!!
-
:)
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning!
-
Strongest vibes for DR Elmore for the AC, the AaR rides and appointment, and all other concerns.
There's nothing like not having AC at a time like this. Been there, too many times.
As an aficionado of main title sequences myself, I could probably come up with a hundred examples easily. I'm just making that number up, but I'll bet the golden years of really fine moviemaking would easily yield that many notable ones.
-
Today is supposed to be the peak of our week-long heat wave, with temperatures expected to reach the mid-90s with of course a heat index considerably higher. I haven't looked at the weather yet this morning, so that information is as of last night.
Edit: I realize that's still less than what some of you have been dealing with this summer.
-
As of a couple of days ago, gas was continuing to hold at $3.56 where it has now been for a while. I'm running out today for a couple of things and will have an updated repor which I know you are all breathlessly awaiting.
-
I just had an apocalyptic vision of DR Elmore's score notations running down the page in this heat like the paintings in the Twilight Zone episode "The Midnight Sun".
Oy! :) Sorry about that!
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE.
-
DR GEORGE I always hang around at rehearsals, too, when I'm in a play....and I usually also get asked to do something extra....more stage time!
-
Only one section - well one and half - where the lines just weren't there.
Tonight NO CALLING FOR LINES....production photos....and three days off.
-
Still can't get my Peacock Premium on my TV....I think I finally got logged in on my computer.....but that's not what I want.
-
It's Thursday morning, but my brain keeps trying to convince me that it is Friday.
I slept the sleep of the righteous last night. My head hit my pillow at 11 p.m and I awoke at 7 a.m. That had me rushing to the bathroom to take my daily dose of Prednisone which must be taken between 4 and 7 a.m.
I was back in bed after that, and slept until 10 a.m. I feel refreshed and somewhat alert at this time.
Larry: I wish I could share some of my AC with you. I know how miserable heat and humidity can make you feel, especially with health issues. Prayers are offered up that your unit gets repaired/replaced by day's end.
-
I love MAIN TITLES!!!
All of the ones mentioned in the notes are favorites.
Currently I like the DEADPOOL titles.....and this with its great Elmer Bernstein main title is great.
I have another appointment in Aiken today...at 2:40 p.m., I see an orthotics specialist who will make molds of my feet to prepare orthotic inserts for my shoes removing the pressure on the balls of my feet which ignite my callous growth.
I don't mind this at all, but it's another trip to Aiken hot on the heels of yesterday's.
-
TOD:
I must boast of a kinship with Bruce's love of Main Titles. All the ones he mentioned are first-rate and ideal for my kind of YouTube surfing.
I would be remiss, however, if I didn't add one of the most spectacular main titles I have ever seen, both visually and musically: "The Fall of the Roman Empire". The artist who did the titles is named Maciek Pietrowski. The music is by Dimitri Tiomkin.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwCH7fJu0Ek&list=RDgwCH7fJu0Ek&start_radio=1
"55 Days at Peking" is pretty awesome, as well. Ditto "The Big Country".
-
Didn't Geraldine Page win an Oscar for A Trip To Aiken?
-
Good choices DR RON PULLIAM.
-
And this.....with a nifty Neal Hefti main title.
Didn't Geraldine Page win an Oscar for A Trip To Aiken?
I don't think so, but she should at least have made the film.
-
Yes, it's the effort that counts.
-
Not many items for the lobby display case, so I was going to have a large cast photo printed.....went to WalMart and all the photo kiosks were down....and out. The young man with RED RED RED dyed hair suggested that I go to Meijer.
I went there and looked around.....finally asked a young girl who was putting socks on a shelf.....and she said "We ain't got that no more."
So then I went to Walgreens....where I put my order in....and it's supposed to be ready at 11:12 a.m.
I went ahead a got it larger and on fiberboard so I don't have to buy a frame or anything.
-
Note to BK:
Let me know if you didn't receive something I sent you about 45 minutes ago, and I'll resend. My Gmail is behaving very strangely this morning.
-
Yes, it's the effort that counts.
I always appreciate the amount of effort you expend. NOW...would you please use some to explain your "rehearsal" woes from last night?
-
Good Morning - thanks for the comments on the new avatar - it was taken on Monday. Yesterday - nothing went correctly. I'm hoping today will be more productive.
-
I miss title sequences. I remember silly ones like A Funny Thing … and great Hitchcock ones, like Vertigo. Saul Bass was the best. West Side Story was also great.
-
Blood sugar is high this morning. Not good.
That's a very kind wish. Thank you!
Access-a-Ride was a complete 180 degree turn from yesterday's hell. I see Dr Potters in six months and my PSA result was spectacular.
-
I loved the main titles for the film of Flower Drum Song, and the most recent one I remember is the wonderfully funny animation for Bette Midler's Ruthless People.
-
DR Singdaw, there was popcorn. I forgot to mention it before signing off.
Yay.
-
DR George you carry your vaccination cards with you? We only travel with ours.
-
We keep copies of our vaccination cards on our phones.
-
I bought a bag of citrus and cayenne potato chips the other day in the clearance bin. They’re actually pretty good, which means I will never get them again.
-
DR George, more to do in the show. It was good you stayed.
-
:)
Cute.
Ain't that the way it always is!
Fritos once issued a "roasted corn" version of its chips. Of all the varieties of Fritos, including the originals, that version was the best I ever had.
And, it was limited and, apparently, not to be repeated.
Sigh.
I hope you have a more productive day, though yesterday was good since you got that nice new avatar up.
Vibes for everybody!
A little while ago I took a walk down to the street to pull the trash can back up to the house (yesterday was trash pickup day) before we got into the heat of the afternoon. I figured I'd "enjoy" the five-minute walk in the heat, to get the flavor of it.
Well, I didn't quite get to the point of breaking a sweat, since half the walk is in shade, but...
WOW.
-
To reward myself, I made two (count 'em) egg-bacon-cheese sandwiches (on small buns) that would have done vixmom proud. Beyond delicious.
-
One minor mis-step, though. I sat down at the kitchen table to eat those lovelies, and by the time I got there the sun had completely drenched the table in bright, hot sunlight. One thing I can't stand in the first place is eating - anything - in direct sunlight, inside or out. But I decided I could stand it for the necessary few minutes, and sat my ass down. Well, not today. It quickly felt like a sauna. A very bright sauna. I gave the experiment one whole minute before fleeing to a more interior part of the house.
Congratulations on that excellent news!
I loved the main titles for the film of Flower Drum Song, and the most recent one I remember is the wonderfully funny animation for Bette Midler's Ruthless People.
The Flower Drum Song titles would probably be in my absolute top five of all time. The word "stunning" was made for those.
-
ChasSmith - got it.
-
Flower Drum Song's paintings are by the amazing Dong Kingman.
I'm up, I'm up. Seven hours of sleep.
Sweet!
Keith heard me watching Big Country & Casablanca, asked why and then said Magnificent Seven.
-
Fearless Vampire Killers has great titles.
I've not seen the film so I watched the opening credits-yup they are good.
-
I like the James Bond opening credits.
Goldfinger
Casino Royale
-
I always liked the opening credits to a good Western.
Guess what was in my mail today?
Yes, they're in my wallet.
DR George, more to do in the show. It was good you stayed.
Yup! I think bring in the glee club would've happened either way, but I have always enjoyed the rehearsal process...usually even more than actually performing. ;)
Yikes! I don't like direct sunlight in situations like that, either, unless it's very minimal exposure.
The orthotics visit went well. My insurance does not cover the inserts into my shoes, but does cover the cost of the shoes.
I stopped at The Fresh Market on my way home and shopped my heart out. Bought a melon tray, strawberries, butter lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, a lemon, a couple of N.Y. strip steaks, a 4-count of blueberry muffins, a pound of chicken curry salad and a slice of coconut creme cake. I love curried chicken!!! I so seldom find it.
Once home, I ate a lot of the curried chicken (not quite half) and some melon pieces (watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew).
During the afternoon hours, I treated myself to saved programs on my DVR. To wit, the first two episodes of the PBS Masterpiece Theater 2017 production of "Little Women". Angela Lansbury appears as Aunt March.
-
P.S. That slice of coconut creme cake is history! :-*
-
Hello! Today at work was great. Much was accomplished and there were laughs and smiles and sarcasm... the best day. The boys seemed to have a good day at camp as well, although they didn't tell me. I'm sure they'll sleep after their food kicks in!
Did you purchase the shoes from the doctor?
No. I have shoes I buy from an online specialist shop called Orthofeet that I have been buying from for several years. The orthotics specialist examined one of them and said it was deep enough for the inserts that I will get.
I can, however, go back and order shoes when I need new ones (as long as they are stylish, that is).
PAGE FIVE THE HOTEL OLYMPIAN REHEARSAL DANCE!!
-
Good night, friends.
-
Rehearsal was fun.
-
Went to Dino's and got their garden salad with Eyetalian dressing and brought it home. Obviously VERY calorie friendly.
-
But not enough to eat - so, having mac-and-cheese in a bit.
-
What is this page five malarkey?
-
Malarkey.
-
Just in case anyone missed it.
-
Finished entering proofer one's final fixes - did about 85% of them, maybe 90%.
-
My main pair of reading glasses broke - cheap frame cracked and lens popped. Luckily, I have a spare pair and they're actually a bit better.
-
DR JANE it's a bit of both....actually. I love rehearsals.....
-
DR RON PULLIAM last night was just an exercise in frustration.....the same two people keep just standing there if they have forgotten their lines.....which happens more often than it EVER should.
And of course no more calling for lines.....so you would think one of them would go on....and all I hear later is "I couldn't say this because she didn't say that....." crap.......then just go on!
The scenes they are in together were excruciating.
-
Tonight there was only ONE showdown/death stare between them....and finally the woman took the initiative and went on.
She is also the one who has several small speeches.....and she never ACTS until the last line. mumble mumble mumble mumble ACT!
-
It was an okay night.....and dropping all of those lines cut fifteen minutes off the time of the show.
-
It was an okay night.....and dropping all of those lines cut fifteen minutes off the time of the show.
And was that a "bad" thing?
Someone needs to drum it into their heads that if a line is missed, one of them needs to say "something" and hope to heck it gets back on track.
I used to repeat one of my last lines to that character and watch him look at me quizzically, give me his next line, hear my reply and the light bulb would go on over his head and the correct reply would pop out.
-
Jack: Thank you for sharing your frustration.
I miss doing theater. There is a smallish group in Edgefield, several members of which I know by name. But I have to ask myself every time I think to ask about joining them whether or not I am cut out for "very" amateur theatricals. Local audiences eat them up, but they know these people and find them amusing.
I find the high school does phenomenal work.
Aiken has a vibrant community theater, but the commute would get me.
-
Ooh I never Wordled
-
TOD:
Another film with brilliant main titles that enthrall me are for "Cleopatra" (1963).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hswnwpERjvk
The thrilling score is by Alex North (one of his two greatest, the other being "Spartacus") and the paintings for the main titles and the other sequences that dissolved into paintings was by Emil Kosa Jr.
So I’m home now
-
I have just read another 100 pages of my book. I should have it finished tomorrow.
-
And I am exhausted.
-
I left earlier this morning because my plan was to leave work at 4 instead of 5
-
Dance class was a bit much since only a few signed up.
-
I had tickets to see a show at the Cutting Room in NYC this evening
-
Hi, Vixmom!
-
Can we push this to six?
-
Just a few more.
-
2
-
A new two person group consisting of Henry Hey and Lucy Woodward called The Guests and opening for them JJ Appleton
-
1
-
Six!
-
My plan was to take an Uber from work to the local train station and then the train to Penn
-
The Cutting Room is a short walk from Penn
-
I didn’t want to drive myself to the station because parking requires a town permit
-
A permit you can only get if you live in said town
-
Which I don’t
-
After 5pm non residents can park there
-
But I was taking the 428
-
I apped ( is that a word?) Uber at 345 and the car arrived promptly at 4
-
I was delivered safely to the station at 4:15
-
A group of people ( including moi) gathered on the platform as 428 loomed near
-
Then the 428 came….and went
-
Without stopping
-
I checked my traintime app and discovered that all the trains from that station had been cancelled
-
Indeed all the trains on that line had been cancelled
-
As had all the trains on three more lines
-
A work train had derailed in Queens , derailing everyone’s plans to go anywhere on the train
-
So I apped ( still not sure that’s a work) Uber again
-
And went back to the office parking lot
-
And as I started my car watched my coworkers leaving the office …on time .
-
I headed into Manhattan by car
-
I was meeting two friends at the show
-
Ne was coming from Brooklyn, by subway
-
The other from New Jersey
-
By train
-
They both were able to get on their train
-
We are part of a group chat
-
Along with a friend who resides in the UK
-
While I was in the Uber I posted in the chat that my plans had changed and I would not be at the venue when doors opened at 6
-
I had all the tickets
-
But this venue will often have the names of the parties on the list with the number of guests so I hoped if one of them arrived before me they could get in a grab a stage side table
-
One of th3 nice things about FB chats is that you can actually make phone calls through it
-
Another member of our chat , who lives in the UK was reading what was going on
-
So she called me on a separate chat.
-
I had my Bluetooth earpieces in so all hands free
-
She informed me that the friend coming in from Brooklyn was delayed because there was a medical emergency AND suspicious smoke in the train ahead his so his train wasn’t moving and they were stuck somewhere between stations
-
But the NJ friend was doing ok and would endeavor to get in and grab the table
-
Meanwhile UK friend watched the traffic reports on the roads I was traveling in real time in her iPad and informed me which were the best routes to take
-
She also found a parking facility right down the block from the venue
-
Then she kept the other two informed of my whereabouts
-
She let me know when NJ arrived safely and was able to gain access and a great stage side table for us
-
Then she let me know Brooklyn)s subway started moving and he was nearly to the v3nue
-
Then I hit the midtown tunnel traffic and we were at a stand still
-
Siri I used that opportunity to use my parking app to make a reservation at the parking garage UK found
-
The traffic ahead started moving and I going to be able to start moving again and to enter the tunnel
-
So I bid UK thank you and farewell
-
Set my WAZE to give me directions to the parking garage
-
And arrived at the venue at 630
-
Still 3o minutes before showtime so we were able to order dinner and drinks which were served just before HJ took the stage
-
So technology was truly my friend today
-
And the show was great
-
The food was great
-
The parking garage was great
-
We had my favorite waitress serving us
-
So what started out looking like a disaster turned out well…
-
Great
-
So as some guy said
-
Alls well that ends well
-
Also as an added bonus
-
Vixdad was supposed to go into the office today
-
Oooh page 8
-
He did, in fact, leave for the train station
-
But before I left, he came back
-
He had forgotten his wallet
-
And in coming back missed his train.
-
So he called into to his boss that he could be very late or work from home
-
Work from home was the decision
-
Which saved Vixdad from being stranded in Brooklyn when all the trains home were cancelled
-
Traffic on the way home moved very well with no delays or idiots
-
So all in all I am very pleased
-
And tired
-
So I will go to bed
-
And I’ll will see you all in the morning
-
Good night
-
TOD:
In 1965, one of the most refreshingly wonderful comedies hit the screen with a dazzling prologue of actual attempts at flying craft and inserts of Red Skelton trying some of the earliest attempts. The main titles, by Ronald Searles, followed accompanied by Ron Goodwin's amazing "Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines" title song
TOD:
In 1969, Paramount Pictures hired Ken Annakin, director of "Those Magnificent Men...." to direct "Those Daring Young Men in their Jaunty Jalopies." The film, for me, isn't in the same league as "Those Magnificent Men...", but:
Ron Goodwin wrote of the most wonderful title songs ever and Jimmy Durante sang it over Ronald Searle's inventive visuals!
