Well, you've read the notes, the notes fought the good fight, and now it is time for you to post until the fighting cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OBTAIN!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
Long day today.
-
I will be in absentia.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept in after the alarm rang, same as yesterday, only this morning Stella wasn't putting up with any of it. She pestered me for an hour, when I finally gave in and got up.
-
I have two important phone calls to make at 9:00am.
-
The only play I can think of that I detested so much that I could not wait to walk out of was Tennessee Williams' Camino Real. I believe Williams is a great playwright and I usually enjoy his work, but Camino Real is a dud, an experiment that failed, and an effort to sit through. Perhaps someday there will be a brilliant production that reveals what this miasma is about, but nothing made sense in the mess I saw.
-
Good morning, all.
-
TOD:
A community theater production of The Cemetery Club. Just dreadful. Never saw the movie.
-
Love Among the Ruins had George Cukor directing. That helped keep things light and moving. I haven’t seen it in ages, but I remember being thoroughly entertained.
-
Waiting for a call from the car dealership. Having trouble with my front fender.
-
I will be in absentia.
Is that in Canada?
-
Alas! It's Monday, at last.
Another week has begun, and I wasn't finished with last week.
Two items on my Wednesday schedule...conflicting, of course. My annual cardiology appointment in Augusta, and the October seniors luncheon at the church. I had to miss the September luncheon because of the loopy-inducing drugs I was taking (it was the potluck to which I was going to take meatballs).
I would much rather do the luncheon but worry about rescheduling the medical appointment.
Sigh.
-
I broke down and bought a roll of U.S. postage stamps Friday.
The last time I bought, the stamps were 55 cents each.
Did you know they are now 66 cents each? Of course, the last time I bought was five years ago, but still...THAT's inflation.
-
How very old it makes me feel to remember a time when I could mail a first-class letter for 6 cents.
Of course, back then, a quarter would give me admission for a kiddy matinee, and either a Coke or bag of popcorn, at the local theater.
Quarters used to have value. A money-seeking outfit sent me three quarters in one of their recent pleas for funds. THREE QUARTERS. Those used to BUY stuff. Now they're chump change to throw into 4th class postage.
-
Good morning.
-
We had a fun trip last week to Disneyland. It was very very crowded and we didn't get to ride everything we wanted, but the little one had a great time.
-
TOD
I once saw a production of "The Fantasticks" in a military community production.
Not one cast member could sing!
Songs were talked.
They were an attractive cast, but one needs vocal stimulation from at least one cast member, I believe.
The Mute was convincing.
I have seen dreadful productions through the years...shows with titles I did not know at the time and have no reason to recall today. These were all done locally in Edgefield by very well-meaning, fun-loving folks who truly think they are providing much-needed culture to our climes. Watching paint dry is more stimulating, but you cannot later laugh about that.
-
Good morning.
Happy first day of the week to you, Laura!
-
TOD
I don’t recall ever walking out of a play
-
I am sure I have had some naps during plays however
-
I am off today
-
A relaxing morning so far
-
But my tummy is seeking sustenance
-
Or maybe an omelet
-
I’m now home
-
We landed at JFK around 840
-
It was a few minutes after 9 by time we were arrived at the baggage claim area where Vixdad was waiting for us.
-
The wheelchair we brought for Mom was indispensable
-
The architects for JFK should be shot
-
Or …, no…a worse punishment….force them to walk from passenger drop off to the last gate, and back, carrying a 20 lb “personal item” and dragging a 50 lb carryon with a wonky wheel, terminal by terminal, for the rest of their days, may they be many and long.
-
Williamsburg is beautiful.
-
Glad you’re home safe, Vixmom.
-
The architects for JFK should be shot
No pun intended?? ::)
;)
-
And welcome home, Vixmom. :)

-
Good morning, all.
-
I imagine MR BK's friend had an OMG moment later in the day......and he may have been looking for him when the play ended.
-
DR JOHN I hope you mean the front fender on your car.
-
I went to Walgreen's and bought two gift cards for my brother-in-law's birthday party on Saturday....
I got $25 from Starbucks and $25 from Subway......both places he frequents regularly.
-
I'm enjoying a lazy Monday morning. We had houseguests over the weekend, two school friends of Kristi's who live in Maine. They left early this morning so I'm straightening up and getting my sense of private space back.
-
I walked out once during the intermission of a production of CAROUSEL......and have thought about it at other shows, but I usually not alone, so I stick it out.
-
In fourteen hundred ninety two
Columbus sailed the ocean blue.....
-
I know there have been plays that I would have walked out on, had I been alone, but the only one that's coming to mind at the moment is a community theeder production of Arms and the Man some twenty years ago.
-
And the next day he said:
No MAIL FOR YOU!
-
One "musical" (I use the term loosely) I wanted to flee from, but was obligated to sit through and greet people afterward, was a "performance" (I use the term loosely) of something called Macbeth 2000. It was around that same time period. Actually, I think it was sometime around the turn of the millennium. And I think a millennium was about the running time of it.
-
An upcoming play that I hope I DON'T feel like fleeing is the Deane-Halderston Dracula. I've never seen it done, nor has there been a production of it around here, that I know of, in my 30+ years here. It'll be at our tiniest local theeder, where I've seen a number of very good plays -- but also, as it happens, an unfortunate production of The Fantasticks, the only musical I recall seeing there. It'll be an interesting time, whatever happens.
-
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!
-
Gosh, the last couple nights I got cozy for late-night posting, and the next thing I know it was morning. Crash!
-
DR JOHN I hope you mean the front fender on your car.
Yes. Not referring to a cod piece.
-
I wanted to leave a couple of shows. Promised myself that I would leave at intermission, then there was no intermission.
-
From DR John:
Karen Allen is wonderful. What an underused actress.
I agree.
-
I've been working on "Normandy." I made my two important phones to my satisfaction, and now I wait for my computer-savvy son Jason to show up and advise me on a purchase.
-
From DR Ron:
Had my weekly Zoom chat this afternoon, and Marshall Harvey, BK's editor, joined us from his hotel in Rome. He is staying at Hotel Fellini. He also took us into the 8 1/2 Bar where he got a glass of wine. He later showed us the Trevi Fountain...and the thousands of tourists making access to it for coin tossing relatively impossible.
I had no idea your Zoom chats were so interesting.
I thought the Fountain was crowded when we were there.
-
Waiting for a call from the car dealership. Having trouble with my front fender.
Vibes it can easily and quickly be fixed.
-
We had a fun trip last week to Disneyland. It was very very crowded and we didn't get to ride everything we wanted, but the little one had a great time.
I want to go with our little one to Disneyland. I doubt it will happen anytime soon.
-
DR Laura, I am glad you had a good time at Disneyland even if it was a bit crowded.
-
I am sure I have had some naps during plays however
I have also had some naps during plays.
-
I learned not to get front row seats at the Shakespeare Festival the day after returning from overseas travel and suffering from jetlag ;D

On time?

They do come in handy at times.

I thought the Fountain was crowded when we were there.
I lived in Italy 1973-75 and 1987-1992. I visited Rome many times during those years, and there were always tourists...but I never saw as many as there were at the Trevi Fountain yesterday. I was always able to walk right up and look into the fountain...saw all the coins. Marshall was unable to get within 15 feet of it yesterday. Throngs of folks there.
-
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!
And to you, the closest US Hainsie or Kimlet neighbor to the north!
-
I hope Jennifer is celebrating and is well. She hasn't posted in a couple of weeks.
-
I wanted to leave a couple of shows. Promised myself that I would leave at intermission, then there was no intermission.
I hate it when that happens! :o

A couple of friends of mine just got back from a European vacation, and they posted pictures of themselves at the fountain. There were crowds, but not 15 feet deep!
-
One of my morning calls just landed: Zoom meeting tomorrow about the finale of the ballet. We must freeze the end. Indiana wants the score by Oct. 18.

We were there on a Sunday and it was rather crowded, though I believe we were able to get closer than this photo.

I attempted to put up a less silly photo except the file was too large. You can see it wasn't crowded at all.

Concerned about my friend in Israel I asked if she had a shelter room. Read her response.
"Yes we do. However, the problem is that you cannot lock them from the inside. They were designed to protect people from rockets. The only way to keep the terrorists from opening the reinforced steel door is to use all your strength to hold the handle so the terrorists can't turn it and open the door. I guess now someone will come up with a way to lock them. You see the picture. To open, you move the handle up and to the right. So you need to prevent that by using all your strength to keep someone from doing that. An extended family member did that for the 2.5 HOURS that terrorists were in their house and saved his family. Soldiers killed the terrorists."

I'm up, I'm up - up at noon after a bit more than eight hours of sleep.
-
Allergies are off the chart today - I've asked someone to get me the twenty-four hour Claritin-D as the twelve-hours just aren't as potent. I took one an hour ago and it's barely kicked in yet.

If I won the Powerball, I think I'd spend it all saving animals from euthanasia at the NYC shelters. I wish I could have saved Skeeter; he was adorable but too big for my apartment. No 2-year-old pup deserves to die. He was murdered last Thursday.

Here's a happy (essentially) story about an abandoned dog:
Dog Born with Six Legs Stuns Animal Rescue After Being Found Abandoned in Parking Lot (https://people.com/dog-born-with-six-legs-stuns-animal-rescue-found-abandoned-parking-lot-8349006)
Greenacres Rescue in the United Kingdom said vets plan to remove the female spaniel's "additional limbs and explore the function of her remaining leg"

DR Vixmom it sounds as if you need a new bag with wheels that work correctly.
Well we actually only had Vera Bradley bags ( thank you, DR Ginny!!) which hung nicely from the handles of the wheel chair .
I’m just trying to increase the punishment and misery inflicted on the architects.
-
And now for something completely different! ;)
This is from Britain's Got Talent five years ago, and it's the initial audition for a 68 year old woman named Jenny Darren (https://youtu.be/LO6OaR5PK_w?si=neP_gMg7e_fodM31)! :D
-
And then from three years ago, check out 76 year old drummer, Crissy Lee (https://youtu.be/A8Ak3LCw5cY?si=Q3I8oBIuaHzyzG4n)!
-
I really think Jenny and Crissy need to get together with Kenny Petrie (https://youtu.be/wf56Qmc8iw8?si=1bZoCamt56_7F0hf) and John Wines (https://youtu.be/3ku0y9-w0HI?si=5_YTZh-Grn_f2v0V) and form a band!
-
Off to get my shots.

So scary DR JANE!
-
Of course I loved the Trevi photos!
-
I made an appointment to get my flu shot after I have my yearly checkup with my radiologist on Friday.
I was going to schedule my Covid-19 vax then, too, but they don't have it.
So I went online and signed up to get the vax (Moderna) tomorrow at Walgreen's.
-
Tomorrow is shopping day, so I will probably stop and make an appointment for an eye examination......for next week.
-
Got flu, covid and REV shots.
-
Listening to The Girl in the Eagle’s Talon, the girl of the books written by a woman. It isn’t very good, but it moves quickly. I miss Steig Larssen (sp?)

I refused to read the ones not written by him after the way his family treated his long time partner. It is very sad Larsson died without marrying her, or leaving a will.

It has been long enough since I read the book that the series will be fresh.

No, this is when it always is.

Since the kids had school off, I took them to a movie. The Paw Patrol movie. Which allowed me a brief nap. But they enjoyed it. Then we went to a pumpkin patch with a train ride and so forth. A fun time. And the rains held off just enough.

I was confused this morning as to whether it was Columbus Day. The retailers usually keep us informed of such things: Huge Memorial Day sale! Labor Day sale! Columbus Day sale! I saw a sale or two, but no mention of Columbus Day. Do we no longer speak of this?
Sigh. I can’t keep up.

I believe this day has become too much of a political hot potato for most retailers
There are those who wish to replace the day with Indigenous Peoples Day, there are those who are adamant it remain Columbus Day…either way they turn the retailers are liable to lose customers or possibly suffer a boycott

Columbus is no longer viewed as having discovered America...as far as Europeans go, the Vikings were much earlier, but there were millions of folks already here, which the Spanish later murdered and infected with diseases the natives had no immunity for.
I lost a friend last year when I wished everyone a Happy Native American Day instead. He insisted that Columbus Day is actually a day that honors the contributions of all Italian-Americans to America's history.
I was never taught that. No one ever alluded to that. He is Italian-American and grew up in an Italian-American neighborhood, so he had access to information never shared with me in the South. When I explained that to him, he became insulting and said his opinion of me was drastically reduced. I replied that I no longer had an opinion of him, and I dropped him.
I absolutely love Italy and Italians, but I despise morons.
-
I am really concerned that no one seems to be discussing the possibility/probability that Vladimir Putin is behind the Hamas attacks on Israel.
My reason: What better way to deflect U.S. aid to the Ukraine than by supporting the Hamas attack on Israel which will divert funds/weapons to that country.

Your fabulous face.
-
I get no kick from champagne
-
Mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all
-
So tell me why should it be true
-
That I get a kick out of you?
-
Some get a kick from cocaine
-
I'm sure that if I took even one sniff
-
That would bore me terrifically too
-
Yet I get a kick out of you.
-
I get a kick every time I see you
-
Standing there before me
-
I get a kick though it's clear to see
-
You obviously don't adore me
-
I get no kick in a plane
-
Flying too high with some guy in the sky
-
Is my idea of nothing to do.
-
Yet I get a kick out of you
-
And this concludes my performance in Porter.
-
Porter-guese?
-
That still leaves with a few posts on this page to go.
-
Nope. It's eight. It's great.
-
Thank you , John, I just sang the last page in my head
-
I didn’t realize what was happening in Israel until today
-
I hadn’t seen any television or heard any radio since Friday
-
It’s horrific
-
And this concludes my performance in Porter.
Quite delightful, John.
-
Good night, all.
-
Got in bed and slept for a couple of hours.
-
While the allergy attack has subsided a bit, I'm congested, which is annoying.
-
Doug picked up some twenty-four hour pills, so I'll get those tomorrow at rehearsal.
-
A friend of mine shared this on FB:
-
:))
-
Just a post at twilight, while the lights are low.
-
As the flickering shadows softly come and go.
-
Though the heart be weary, sad the day and long.
-
Still to us at twilight comes love’s old song.
-
Comes love’s old sweet song.
-
Once again, George disappears and doesn't reappear in time to post before midnight and yes he WILL be held accountable.
-
He could have been home posting and/or reading the eBook of Kritzer World, but noooooo.
-
No, he's stuffing his face with free tacos.
-
He's down some damn rabbit hole.
-
He's talking to long lost friends.
-
He's napping.
-
His friend demanded they meet for a late-night meal.
-
All I know is he ain't here.
-
Very unseemly.
-
VERY.
-
Note he never even shares these late night meals.
-
VERY VERY.
-
I know, right?
-
Page nine has arrived, which is more that I can say for George.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
The Ninth Circle of Pages.
-
I wrote them.
-
Despite all that, George STILL isn't here and he will never EVER be allowed to sing or listen to I'm Still Here.
-
How will that be enforced?
