Good morning, all!
-
It took me forever to get to sleep, but once I did, I slept quite well.
-
Last night I got an email from Phil Chan, who's staging the ballet at Indiana University. The opening night performance will be streamed live and shown at the Library for Performing Arts, Lincoln Center, on March 29. I'll get to see the premiere with some invited friends!
-
I have been feeling exhausted ever since returning to NY
-
Funny, I had plenty of energy in Florida
-
I fell asleep in the recliner after eating dinner and there I remained the whole night long
-
I slept quite well actually
-
But now I must get to work so Wordle and out into the cold snowy morning for me…
-
Good morning, all.
-
I had an okay sleep but woke abominably early again. As per usual.

I'm waiting for a food delivery and to hear from Access-a-Ride. Kitty cleanup is over and I'm ready to step out.

TOD
Night before last I watched a film called Ain't Them Bodies Saints (2013). I was interested in it because I'd liked A Ghost Story (2017) from the same director (David Lowery) with the same two leads (Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck) and the same filming territory (Austin TX, mainly). It was okay, and Keith Carradine has a good part in it. I was more into the originality of the ghost-y film, but I like the "vibe" of these in general.
And that's about it. Got a busy few days here.

Maybe an occasional recliner sleep has good aspects to it.

There's a trial going on in Indiana....some guy shot and killed a deputy as she was knocking on his door.....shot through the door.
He is acting as his own attorney and it's painful.

Looks like some people have taken the Friday before the three-day weekend off.

DR Singdaw, eBooks. I haven't checked out a hardcopy since before we moved here. I was thinking of seeing if our library has a copy for me to read and then decided it was too inconvenient to go there to pick it up and return it.

Re: Ride the Cyclone
The context is that six members of a school choir rode on The Cyclone roller coaster. There was a terrible accident and all the kids were killed. The teens are each telling their stories, as the Fortune Telling Booth thing is giving one teen a chance to come back to life.
One of the teens was decapitated in the accident. No one knows who she is, so she's Jane Doe and she has no memories. Her head is replaced with the head of the doll she carried with her.
She sings a wonderfully creepy song.

I saw Aaron Tveit in an off-Broadway production based on a movie; I can't remember the title! He was wonderful in it, and I think I'd rather see him and Sutton Foster than the original leads. Also, Joe Locke from Heartstoppers is now playing Toby, and I think he's wonderful. I wish thrm all a good run.

A very bad day for Trump!
The judge who presided over a civil business fraud trial against Donald Trump and his company has issued his decision in the case.
Judge Arthur Engoron ordered the former president and the Trump Organization to pay over $350 million in damages, and bars Trump "from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation or other legal entity in New York for a period of three years."

Do you still have a land line, DR elmore3003, or just the cell number?

I hated giving up my land line, but I'm used to being without it now.

I’m not a Sutton Foster diehard. I dud like the scenes i saw of her in Once Upon a Mattress, but I was not big on her Reno Sweeney. (I loved Patti LuPone in Anything Goes.) Tveit seems too young for Sweeney, but his sound was fine, for a tenor.

Oregon has joined Washington and passed a bill proposing staying on standard time. If the bills pass we will still change to daylight saving this year. After we fall back in November then we would stop this constant back and forth.
-
DR George, does your library have eBooks of Hard by a Great Forest? If so, how many copies and how many holds are there?
-
Sutton and Aaron - whatever one thinks of the performance, and sorry to say I didn't think much of it, the horrifying thing is the AUDIENCE. It's like listening to a middle school show's audience. This is why I don't care to go to the theater anymore. Just listen to them. And whatever's going on after the "privates" line clearly has nothing to do with these two characters. Mr. Cariou and Miss Lansbury got all the laughs (from adults yet) but never resorted to this kind of pandering.
-

So true MR BK....I am more horrified at the response than the performance....although it is horrifying as well....at least at one point.....

Minnesota passed a state law in 2021 to observe Daylight Savings Time year round. But it is still pending Congressional approval.

And here comes the s**w.....kind of scary.

If we're going to go back to not changing the clocks, I think it should be Standard Time.
-
Stay safe & warm, DR Jrand73.

I saw that Aaron Tveit is 40, and Len Cariou was 39 when the show opened in 1979!
-
Thanks DR singdaw that is my plan.
-
And here comes the s**w.....kind of scary.
Be safe and be careful! Vibes all goes OK.

Land line and my old cell phone, for which I just ordered a new battery.

I hate all the hooting at theater performances these days. And the garbage left behind after everyone leaves. I remember when going to the theater was a grand occasion. You applauded after songs and didn't eat during the performance.
I blame American Idol. Or America's Got Talent. Or whatever those dumb shows were that I couldn't stand to watch.
-

Tveit is almost fifty. I saw him in Zanna, Don't! (dreadful show) in 2002. He's gptta be in his mid-forties.
-
Minnesota passed a state law in 2021 to observe Daylight Savings Time year round. But it is still pending Congressional approval.
As did Washington, Oregon, and California. Since we don't need Congressional approval to stay on Standard time it is the new attempt to stop these difficult time changes.
-
If we're going to go back to not changing the clocks, I think it should be Standard Time.
I agree. I think people need light in the mornings to begin the day.

Hi - new member here and this is my first post.
TOD: I'm listening to CTI Records: The Cool Revolution, a 40th anniversary compilation from the label Creed Taylor started after his Verve years. I'm going to have to listen to it more often, it's really good.
I saw the Sweeney Todd revival last year and loved Josh Groban as Todd - he sang it so terrifically well. That's as high a voice as I'd want for Todd, though.
I'm wondering what's wrong with the audience in this clip? Aside from the silliness at the general / privates line, but who knows what the actors were doing there? (It doesn't seem to be what Groban and Ashford were doing.) This is the big comic relief number in the show after the intensity of Epiphany. Our host has forgotten more about theater than I'll ever know, so I'm curious.

I'm a retired software engineer who's been performing music since I was 5 years old. I started with piano, switched to trumpet, then switched to singing when they put the trumpets and trombones onstage for the Entrance of the Peers in a production of Iolanthe. No pets.
I met my wife in our college band, and now we sing in opera choruses together. Tonight we open our new production with the composer in the audience.

Keith has set up a busy night of viewing for us.
-
We will begin with season 2, episode 2 of Fargo.

Then there is the 4th and last episode of Indian Detective which we have found a fun show to watch. Unfortunately they expected to have a second season and I don't know that the story will wrap things up.

Next on the list is The Tourists.
-
Wrapping up the evening will begin watching the last season of Young Sheldon.

Welcome Michael G! I look forward to hearing how your show was received

Welcome to MichaelG. Was hoping he'd join us. As to the audience reaction - for me, it sounds like the over-the-top reaction that middle school shows get. If you listen to the audience and laughs in the Hearn/Lansbury video, those are adult laughs, although I haven't watched that in ages. But I saw it with Cariou/Lansbury and the laughs were very big, but not like the kids in the Foster/Tveit. I also saw Cariou and Lansbury reprise it at the Hollywood Bowl on the occasion of Sondheim's 75th. Great reaction, but not like this.

Got the second round of proofing from proofer one. Not very much, but the things he caught were doozies. Horrid spelling errors with some names, Lost Angeles for Los Angeles, etc.

Friday is almost over, and I am still not sure I believe it is Friday.

My singular accomplishment of today was watching "Oppenheimer" on Peacock.
I think it's destined to win Oscars. I also think I would have been more impressed had I seen it in a theater on a big screen with massive sound.
That said, it never bored me. I think Cillian Murphy is remarkable as Oppenheimer. I think Robert Downey Jr. will be the supporting actor to beat for the Oscar (but I have not seen all the performances).
I did not like the music score. It's obnoxious, not particularly thematic and overused. It's a shoo-in for the Oscar because of that. Academy members vote for music scores with organs other than their ears (that's a lift from an Alfred Newman statement made way back in the 40s or 50s).
As it stands, I have seen four of the nominated ten films: Barbie, The Holdovers, Maestro and Oppenheimer. Of those, The Holdovers is the most emotionally satisfying, Maestro is the least emotionally accessible. Barbie is a nil in emotional reaction from me. Oppenheimer is impressive, intellectually stimulating and visually stunning. I knew of Oppenheimer but never knew anything about how he was treated and how the government mistreated him. Happily, I now know that his security clearance was reinstated many years later and he has been "de-vilified" in federal records.
I concede that Murphy is likely going to win the acting Oscar, but my favorite remains Cooper whose total immersion into Bernstein is far more impressive to me. I keep reading that Giamatti is either a co-favorite with Murphy or the odds-on favorite.
Thus it always is with the Oscar race until they are actually presented. At that time, everyone will have known in their hearts that the winners would win.

And that's truly all I know.
I had catfish, grits, turnip greens and a sweet potato for lunch.
It was very good.

What Ever Happened to Baby George?
-
He thinks he can just leave us stranded on page seven?
-
He thinks no posts for three hours is acceptable?
-
He will, of course, be held accountable.
-
I do not care for page seven.
-
And we've been on it for over five HOURS.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.

I wrote them.

George is absent.
-
A demerit has been recorded.
-
It is most unseemly.
-
It cannot be tolerated.
-
He's probably out having a damn burrito.
-
Ridic.

Well, at least we got to eight.
