Title: RESTING THE VOICE
Post by: bk on May 21, 2024, 12:26:00 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes rested their voice, and now it is time for you to post until the rested cows come home.

I was just about to post this last night:

They've just done a brand new 4K of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg - they'll be showing in at Cannes in September and hopefully a new 4K disc will come soon thereafter.

Ooo...maybe I'll finally need to get a 4K player.  My TV already can play 4K movies (and I have a few 4K discs), but I don't have a player, yet.

Scientifically, a raven has 17 primary wing feathers, the big ones at the end of the wing. They are called pinion feathers.

A crow has only 16.

So, the difference between a crow and a raven is really just a matter of a pinion.

In addition to trying to find tax deductions from the ether I have had another project: buying a condo. When I returned to California I planned to buy a house, but many things conspired against that plan, not the least of which was skyrocketing housing prices. But between getting creamed on taxes — how can I owe so much on such a modest income? — and the never-ending maintenance issues at this building I felt I must do something.
Title: Re: RESTING THE VOICE
Post by: Jeanne on May 21, 2024, 03:05:37 PM
My hairdresser moved his business to a building in the Marina that I had never heard of, the Marina City Club, and he told me that he thought condos there were affordable. Really? He had a client, in fact, who had just bought one there. “I want to talk to her!” The next time she came in he put her on the phone. Rebecca and I starting swapping information, I contacted her real estate agent, and began pouring over listings.
Title: Re: RESTING THE VOICE
Post by: Jeanne on May 21, 2024, 03:08:58 PM
I also started talking to a lender to get a preapproval. These people must looovvve meetings, because we had way more than I feel were needed, but I finally secured a preapproval.
Title: Re: RESTING THE VOICE
Post by: Jeanne on May 21, 2024, 03:27:07 PM
The lenders will want two years of tax returns, the second delay. My accountant now has all but the last needed deductions. I planned to make an offer on a one-bedroom condo this week, but after sitting for months while I hurriedly tried to get all necessary paperwork together it sold! Damn!

Boy, are my eyes itchy these past couple of days.

Allergy season, mainly.

Back around November when I'd gotten my cataract surgeries scheduled for January, I vowed that I would from that moment on be a person who no longer rubs his eyes. It's just good practice anyway, and I'd been bad at it sometimes, but I especially didn't want to compromise the surgeries. So I've done well at keeping my hands away from my damned face these six months, but days like this can be a challenge.

My friend Shelly had a 5.1 cm kidney stone a couple of years ago...that's larger than a golf ball!

OMG!  Did it take long to recover?

The lenders will want two years of tax returns, the second delay. My accountant now has all but the last needed deductions. I planned to make an offer on a one-bedroom condo this week, but after sitting for months while I hurriedly tried to get all necessary paperwork together it sold! Damn!

Oh, my goodness, Jeanne!  Good luck on finding the perfect condo!

Yes, it wasn't an easy recovery.  But she's much better now.

And the sad next chapter of my story: Rebecca and I were planning to meet for lunch and then she’d show me her new condo. I hadn’t heard back from her. I went in for a hair appointment and learned that she’d died. What??! Apparently, she and her husband were drug users and od’d. we had no idea. So I made a friend, then lost that friend.

My condolences on the loss of your friend. :(
