Oh, my goodness! I can't believe that I forgot to mention this! When I worked concessions on Sunday for Olympia Symphony Orchestra's Orchestra Games, I worked with a new concessionaire named Merrily. We got to chatting and I talked about the play I just SMed, and she mentioned that her cousin Tom Birkeland used to do plays before he died! I said that I'd known Tom for many years and then we chatted about him for a little while! :D
Best wishes, Singdaw, on your expanded work force.

I forgot to mention how much joy DR John G.'s photos of his garden brought me last night. Thank you.

Yes, such beautiful photos!
Responding to DR Freddie's quiery last night:
Alas! I was never young enough to mishear the lyrics in "Mame".
I was a senior in high school when it opened. But, being in the south, I was very familiar with bougainvillea.

And back then, there was no google and no wikipedia to look such things up. We just had the encyclopedias and dictionaries, but you usually had to spell things right to find those really useful.

Again, being from the south...and loving the film "Auntie Mame"...I was often exposed to exaggerations like "hissy fits" and "busting a gut", etc. And who could forget "black-eyed peas and our grits"?
The reviews for Swept Away were not great. Tammy Faye is closing. Not a great fall for Broadway.
Six months ago my niece Lauren sent me the “Wicked” trailer and said, “Promise you’ll be sitting next to me!” She and I both have had enough health issues since then to make me skeptical that would ever happen. But, later this afternoon I’m picking up her son after school and Lauren’s coming from work to meet up for dinner and a 6:30 screening!

Jesse Green in the Times called "Swept Away" a "Critic's Pick" though.

Does the Times’ opinion matter? They can’t make a hit anymore. Only destroy.

Had a weird dream that I had been asked to conduct the first rehearsal of a Brahms symphony. It was to be broadcast. Someone stole my copy of the score, and I was under prepared. It was a disaster. Only the oboes sounded good. The regular conductor quit. I finally got the score and went to work, section by section. Then the oboes started to get mad. Somehow, while it was coming together, it was discovered that the oboes players, who apparently lived together on a farm, had started growing porcini mushrooms and were now able to finance the orchestra.

Congratulations on your new millstone, Jane!
Congratulations to Jane on her new plateau
My brain seized for line three and I left the the yellows exactly where they were in line 2
CONGRATULATIONS, DR Jane, on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!!
Thanks for the well wishes. All is good at work so far today. All the new people showed up! That's half the battle.

I saw on the news there is a huge storm hitting the northwest. Has anyone heard from Jane and George?
I'm glad my conference in Sacramento was not this week.
Well, folks, I'm about to be visited upon by the sheetrockers who are fixing the ceiling and walls in two rooms.
I will likely be scarce today, starting very soon.
I could also go for some peanut butter fudge if it's made the way I like it.
My mother made the best I've ever had.
She followed the fudge recipe on the Nestle's Cocoa Powder can but added a tablespoon or so of peanut butter at the end. It helped set the fudge more quickly and the taste was just out of this world.
I've seen peanut butter fudge that has no chocolate in it, and I have to say, "What is up with THAT"?
Did any of you know that "white chocolate' has no chocolate in it? White chocolate is a by-product of cacao beans, using whatever oils are removed during the processing of cacao to create the so-called "white" chocolate.
I miss Tom so much
Very windy last night. Me and just the kids huddled up. Mrs R is down in Austin for work. Had candles and flashlights at the ready but we didn’t lose power, thank jeebus.
Still windy though. Very happy to not have trees too near us.
Possibly the sweetest story I have read this week

Congrats to DR JANE on her new millstone.
I was thinking of going out for a sweet, but I don't really feel like it.
This has been a very busy and very hectic year. Things were accomplished, thankfully, but I am worn out. I’m hoping for a slowish rest of the year. One can hope, right?

My Social Security has landed in my bank account, so I must pay my rent for December today along with a few other bills.
Funny link, DR George.
I'll take some peanut butter fudge.
If you make tacos on a Wednesday, they need to have waffle shells.
I was delighted to read about DR George's meeting of Merrily and their reminiscence of DR TCB.

That's such a lovely chance meeting!
The plain bagel is boring, and I didn't even sprinkle any Everything seasoning on it. It'll fill the pie hole - nothing more, nothing less.

I had to go to a choir rehearsal tonight about 20 miles away by highway. The roads were icy and treacherous and thankfully folks were going very slowly and cautiously. There is accumulated snow on non-road surfaces and the temperature has dropped precipitously.

I liked DR GEORGE's story about Merrily.
My day from hell is officially ended. I am going to lie down, chill out, and sublimate all my rage in a good murder mystery. Things are still a mess, but improving. More to follow tomorrow.
I, too, miss TCB.
George, is Merrily new to doing shows? I don’t recall TCB mentioning her. Was she named after the Sondheim show?
Here's a New York Times article on the audiences singing along at WICKED
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/20/movies/wicked-movie-singalong-debate.html
"‘Wicked’ Fans Singing in Movie Theaters Are Anything but Popular
Some fans who have attended early screenings of the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical have treated it as a singalong. Not everyone is thrilled."
The Darjeeling Limited is tonight's movie. It's a Wes Anderson I remember liking.
Back home after a delightful evening. I thoroughly enjoyed Wicked and didn’t notice the “no singing” sign. I had read some articles and social media posts about audience behavior, but ours was quite respectful. Everyone applauded at the end.
