Well, you've read the notes, the notes were healthy, and now it is time for you to post until the healthy cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INDOMITABLE!
-
Notes intimated. Exonerated.
-
I was just about to post these last two pictures last night. I think that this is on the Macy's building...
-
And finally, this is from one of the underground transit stations...
-
And that was (most of) my evening in Seattle...where I still am. And now I must hie myself back to the environs of Tumwater and home. ;D
-
How long a journey is that?
-
“Dory Previn: On My Way to Where” exists and has been screened but I’ll be doggone if I can find a trailer for it.
-
How long a journey is that?
It's just a little over an hour, especially when there's very little traffic. It took me an hour and 40 minutes to get up there because it was pretty much rush hour. :P But I got there in time. :)

I did have to stop on the way to go to the bathroom, so I stopped at the Tacoma WinCo because they're open 24 hours a day. And then I did a little shopping, completely forgetting that I really did want to get something...dishwasher detergent. So, I still need to get that.
-
And now, I'm off to bed, perchance to sleep. ::)

Great photo tour! Thanks, DR George.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
No, no time off, DR Freddie. Just a little less frazzled.
-
.

I will proudly wear my pearls while chomping on my cupcake.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept well. I awoke around 4:30 to find all three cats snuggled up against me. I reset the alarm for 6:00 and cuddled under the blankets with Annabelle. Thatch likes playing in caves made from the bedding, but he does not want to be under the blankets with me. I suys[ect it has something to do with the horrors he endured before he was rescued. He's perfectly happy cuddling with me on top of the blankets burt he pasnics if I put a blanket over him.
-
I am moving cautiously today. Yesterday afternoon, around 4:30, as I stood up to clean up my dinner and the cats, a huge wave of nausea hit and, before I could get to the toilet, I was sick all over myself and the bathroom floor. Cleanup was an ordeal because of the limited space in the bathroom and my mobility issues. I had to bathe as well once the floor was cleaned up, so the whole ordeal took me around ninety minutes.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Once I was out of the bathroom and dressed in clean clothes, I gave the cats their nightly treat, lay down and read some of Robert Rodi's hilariou 2-volume treatise on Jane Austen's novels, Bitch in a Bonnet, then we all watched Midsomer Murders and went to bed.
-
Hope you’re feeling better, Elmore.
-
I'm taking it easy today.
-
Hope you’re feeling better, Elmore.
Thank you. I'm sure a lot of it's nerves. I was telling the cats this morning we're in for another Hard Candy Christmas like last year. I thought this one would be easier, but I'm still hanging on for the A&T book to be published and the Moonshine & Mistletoe CD to be released, and I still have no idea if the ballet will ever see another production. My patience wears thin as my finances dwindle.
-
Great photos, George.
-
I must be up snd running. Marathon day ahead.
-
But first …
-
A page turn.
-
Two!
-
Great photos, George.
Ditto!
-
No, no time off, DR Freddie. Just a little less frazzled.
Less frazzled can be very nice!
-
George, those were wonderful Seattle photos in last night's posts!
-
Feel-better vibes for Larry!
-
And money and employment vibes for Larry, too!
Between “Bayadère" and the Times interview about that, and the work including credit in the "Gypsy" program, may 2024 be seen as a year of accomplishment for you - and hoping those credits help generate even more opportunities in 2025!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Matinee today!
But it's the last one of those, because we close next Saturday night.
-
Feel better vibes for DR Elmore!

I cannot remember now when I wrote this arrangement for the New York City Gay Men's Chorus, but it was in the 1980s, during the madness of the AIDS crisis when it seemed the Chorus was singing every week for a memorial service for a Chorus member or a friend of the Chorus. I've never thoght of this wonderful song as a happy holiday song but one about putting on a brave face during a time of turmoil and torment. In that respect, it's still applicable.

Here's a fine kettle of what is it, fish:
We're under a winter weather advisory for tonight through tomorrow morning, for a wintry mix that could include a thin but dangerous layer of ICE. And I have that 7:30 a.m. choral rehearsal in the morning. I've emailed the director as to how to handle, since there could even be school delays. And even if not, they need to know that I might not be able to get out of my own driveway till later.
-
Feel better vibes for DR ELMORE.
Lovely link.

Beautiful!

DR singdaw don't work too hard today.

It is 47 degrees here headed for 54 degrees with rain.

And then......
-
There's this.
-
There's this.
Congratulations, Jrand, on your brand new millstone!

I will proudly wear my pearls while chomping on my cupcake.
When is "Clutch your pearls" day?

I slept very well last night. I think I needed that sleep, too. The week was a bit anxiety-ridden with the cataract surgery, etc. I knew it wouldn't be an issue, but it's the getting things done that cause the anxieties.
I have done relatively little in the way of getting ready for Christmas, sorry to admit.
I have yet to mail any cards. I did put some flameless candles in my front windows yesterday, and they are more than seasonal and lovely. This afternoon, I'll be hanging my ginormous wreath on the front porch. That will be IT, decor-wise.
The wreath is "ginormous" (to me) because it's meant to be hung over two doors. I place it on the wall between two front windows. It stands out quite nicely, and it's lighted, too, with a timer, so...
-
Today, I have my weekly Zoom chat with like-minded individuals from across the country, the pond (Great Britain) and from the furthest reaches east and west (Pakistan).
We are a lively bunch.
-
At noon today, this month will be half over. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?
It seems like Thanksgiving was only a week ago (it was two weeks this past Thursday, though).
And no matter how hard a wish I make, I don't seem to be able to prevent January 20th from getting here any time soon.
I live in hope that nature will take her turn in the matter, but...
-
Good morning.
-
I made a gingerbread and some snowball cookies this morning for church.
-
The pre-service coffee hour is nice, but it gets busy, with all the stuff that has to be hauled over from the kitchen -- juice, cups, yogurt, cheese sticks, granola bars, spoons, plates, fruit, coffee, hot water, etc. Plus whatever baked things there are -- muffins, donuts, cookies, etc. And all the serving items.
-
I am going to petition for a small dorm fridge in the office for the stuff we keep hauling back and forth. It's ridiculous.
-
And a shelf somewhere for the paper plates and cups, etc.
-
First world problems, I know.
-
I have finished kitty cleanup and a bit of residual cleanup from last night's mess in the bathroom. Annabelle is not happy this morning. She's been scolding me for over an hour. When I pick her up and hold her, hjer purring goes into overdrive, and when I set her down, she begins yelling again.

Visiting the lively town of La Vernia this morning for a friend’s Christmas cantata. Well, his church’s cantata.

From DR Rodzinski:
My son owns most Dav Pilkey books, yes.
I did not realize how popular they are. After getting a list of which books Freyja has not read, my selection was very small. We are getting her two of the Dog Man books for holiday gifts.
-
DR George, I enjoyed reading about your evening.
-
The photos, especially the after party photos are very nice.

Still worth fixing if it can be done.

Congrats DR Jrand.
-
Thanks DR JANE.
-
DR LAURA I hope your petitions are successful!
-
I made a bag of PF Chang's Mongoilan beef for today.
I realized I didn't have all of the meat loaf ingredients so I will do some shopping in the morning and prepare it tomorrow.
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.
-
Must shave and get ready for a nice walk.

Visiting the lively town of La Vernia this morning for a friend’s Christmas cantata. Well, his church’s cantata.
Why lively? I googled photos and didn't see much there.
Maybe it was a typo and he really meant "lovely." The i and o are right next to each other. I've made that typo a lot over the years. ::)
-
At the dinner, they had a photo booth. Here we are making faces (we didn't take get any "serious" pics):
Still the photos are fun. I was also curious what shirt you wore for the party.
-
George, your shirt is beautiful.

Nice. Looks like you went with the same face in pics 1 and 3.

So far, and yesterday at this point as well, things have gone smoothly. I've spent much of today loading Sondheim recordings I play a lot into my iTunes and listening to holiday music, beginning at 7:00 this morning with Bach's Christmas Oratorio. Ann came by for a brief visit and to bring me a turkey meatloaf dinner. It was quite good.
-

Those are FUN!
-
CONGRATULATIONS, DR Jrand74, on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!!
-
DR John G. - did you grab a piña colada before listening to the cantata?
-
I know that's not a true rhyme.
-
BK's close personal friend, Mr. Stephen J. Sondheim, would not approve.
-
I read an article recently saying that photo booths were unappreciated at weddings and parties, along with other games and thing. I agreed about the games but not the photo booths. Obviously DR George enjoyed the booth :)
-
Thanks for the congrats fellow HHWers.
-
Nice photo booth photos DR GEORGE.
-
Jrand, will your non-HHW friends on Facebook know what the millstone celebration is all about?
-
George, your shirt is beautiful.
Thanks. It's the batik shirt that my sister got me from Hawaii.

So did a lot of other people at the party. You could scan a QR code to get to the pictures online, but not just your picture. You could see all the pics from the party.

That is a great option if you know a lot of people at the event. I would have especially enjoyed doing that at our last high school reunion.

The event looked nice so, as I suspected, you wore your dressy shirt. Dennis dressed a bit more traditional. Did anyone else where a nice Hawaiian shirt, or dressy casual shirt or did most of the men dress more traditional? Maybe I should have said conservative vs traditional.
I personally like the look of your dressy Hawaiian shirt vs a jacket :)

What rhymes with cantata besides Renata?

What rhymes with cantata besides Renata?
Regatta
-
Had a very nice lunch meeting. I had drumettes, no sauce.
-
At Jinky's - the best drumettes anywhere and they give me all drumettes, no wings.
-
Not bad, calorie-wise.
-
No bread, no nothing.
-
The walk was very pleasant.
-
Stopped at Ralph's and got meat for meatloaf, a little pre-made Caesar for this evening's snack, and more blueberries and some raspberries.
-
What do you think of them egg rolls, Mr. Goldstone.
-
Walked home - weather is pleasant as can be.
-
Once home, I watched episode five of the Georges Simenon Mysteries. Very sad episode with a superb performance by the wonderful Line Renaud. VERY different than the book wherein Ms. Renaud's character is a man. I suspect much of it was changed to make it modern. There was a film of this back starring Jean Gabin and someone named Brigitte Bardot, called Love Is My Profession. I may own it on DVD - can't remember, but I suspect it's online somewhere. Interestingly, episode five had an entirely different creative team.
-
Page five?

There's a kitchen cart at church, yes. But the pebbly surface between the two buildings makes things fall off.
-
Not very sporting.
-
That sounds like a country western song - "There's a Kitchen Cart at Church"
There's a kitchen cart at church
When Bobby left me in the lurch
I stood there feeling all alone
I said, "Someone throw me a bone"
And the next thing that I knew
A bone came flying into view
And after doin' a little search
I found it came from that kitchen cart at church.
-
In the key of C.
-
Guess I'll go for episode six, the final one.
-
I saw a lot of grownups with gingerbread men this morning. Next year I'll make a double batch of those. There were some extra wedding cake cookies left over, which they packed up to take to the shut-ins the caroling group visited afterwards.
-
Wish there were more.
-
All right, then.
-
Not hungry quite yet.
-
I'll try to walk more over the next two weeks.
-
Sure would like to lose these fifty pounds.
-
I don't feel very Christmas-y yet. Maybe because it's still so warm outside.
-
I'd take twenty at this point, but fifty is absolutely the goal.
-
And then another ten for good measure, especially the good measure of my waistline.
-
The Good Measure of My Waistline - that's the title of my next novel.
-
Blueberries and raspberries. Hope they go well as a medley.
-
I have grapes, too, in the fruit department.
-
Anxious to try my hand at the meatloaf tomorrow.
-
Bought one pound of meat.
-
I can't believe how low in calories eight ounces of meatloaf is - like under 400.
-
Enter page six.
-
We're cookin' with gas.
-

It is cold here and I still don't feel very Christmas-y, probably because we no longer decorate.

I think it's because I am old.
-
Yup, I am old and tired ;D

HA!
And frittata!

I have about $500 in benefits left.....I am thinking about buying a couple of pairs of smart glasses to look like I am hot and with it.....like the kids.
But as my sister says: "You wouldn't be hot if the room was on fire."
A big line from The Sunshine Boys.

I read a book about the Ed Sullivan Show......but it turned out to be more about Ed Sullivan.....which I have discovered I am not very interested in.
So now I know more about Ed Sullivan than I could EVER want to know......

But then of course, he did welcome Frances Farmer onto his show in June, 1958, for her big COMEBACK to show business.

That clip doesn't include his very nice intro and his short conversation with Frances after her song......
She returned in October to sing "Down In The Valley."
-
Oh my just one pound of meat for a meatloaf?
I always use two pounds so it will last several days.

DR FREDDIE I am sure they have no idea.

Nice clip!
Is "Aura Lee" the same tune as "Love Me Tender"?
-
I guess I could look that up.
-
Wikipedia says yes, it is.

The Page That Shall Not Be Named is pretty near.
-
If The Page Shall Not Be Named, should it still be numbered?
-
If we can get there to The Page That Shall Not Be Named ....
-
we can get beyond it sooner!
-
Almost there
-
The Page That Shall Not Be Named!
-
Getting to page 7 makes getting to page 8 more likely.
-
Watching the rest of Hundreds of Beavers. Very silly. Occasionally sweet.
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
The 70th anniversary screening of White Christmas was a mixed bag.
-
On the plus side: The showing was almost sold out, and the audience was really into it. They applauded after several musical numbers, including The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing and Abraham.
-
One woman with a sweet laugh laughed throughout.
-
It was a very positive audience experience.
-
The negative was the print itself. As I recall, White Christmas was filmed in VistaVision. This version didn't fill the sides of the screen.
-
At times, the optics were out of focus.
-
And, well, the general problems of the movie itself were present.
-
I also think the Choreography number hasn't aged well. My friend who was with me is 10 years older than me, and she had little memory of Agnes de Mille dream ballets.
-
Still, it was more fun than watching it by myself.
-
I went to another friend's cantata, as I reported earlier.
-
It was in a quiet town called LaVernia. The previous description lively was sarcasm.
-
Before the cantata, they called up the Sunday school kids to show how the church was growing. And there were 30 kids out there.
-
Hello.
-
In front was an over energized kid out about 5 busting some serious hip hip moves. He made tired just to look at him.
-
Hi, Iris. So good to see you.
-
Gratuitous post 200!
-
Major vibes and prayers would be greatly appreciated.
Long cancer surgery tomorrow.
I’m terrified.
-
The little dancer started grabbing his crotch with both hands and thrusting his pelvis. It was extremely odd.
-
You got 'em, Iris. And virtual hugs.
-
Wish I could send you peace online too.
-
Thank you so much, HHW.
Will give a progress report if able to do so.
Such good people here.
-
Thank you, John G.
Your message does give me a sense of peace online.
-
Please take care of yourself.
-
Thank you, John G.
I need some modern major miracles.

I personally like the look of your dressy Hawaiian shirt vs a jacket :)
Most people just wore solid colors. No other Hawaiian/Aloha shirts were seen by me.

That sounds like a country western song - "There's a Kitchen Cart at Church"
There's a kitchen cart at church
When Bobby left me in the lurch
I stood there feeling all alone
I said, "Someone throw me a bone"
And the next thing that I knew
A bone came flying into view
And after doin' a little search
I found it came from that kitchen cart at church.

It’s long, not lung, George.
Breast and lymph nodes.
But, hey, I will cherish those vibes! 😊
Thank you so much!

Yesterday was the shortest day of the year light wise.....they say.
The Winter Solstice isn't until next week. I thought that that would be the shortest day...at least, according to this article:

You're very welcome! And I updated my original post. ;D

I will probably say a few ridiculous things coming out of anesthesia.
I have done that before.
Most embarrassing.

The negative was the print itself. As I recall, White Christmas was filmed in VistaVision. This version didn't fill the sides of the screen.
At times, the optics were out of focus.
That's too bad. :-\
-
Still, it was more fun than watching it by myself.
Always!
-
Will try to be brave and optimistic.
Difficult, both.
Good night, good people.
-
Wish me luck.
-
Good night, Iris. Hope you can sleep easy. All the best for tomorrow.
-
Good night, all.
-
Sending more hugs and surgery vibes for Iris for tomorrow!
-
Thank you so much, Freddie.

Will try to sleep before the alarm clock wakes me at 6am.
Thanks for the vibes!

The best most excellent vibes and xylophones for Dear Reader Iris. Our thoughts will be with you.

Finished the final episode of the Simenon series - really excellent. I like when they're kept in their original time periods.

Iris! You’ll be in my thoughts and I send vibes of swift recovery. You must know we all love you here.

What rhymes with cantata besides Renata?
Horchata.

Notes are written.

I am absolutely furious at myself - we all missed an important birthday today - ChasSmith. Damn, damn, and double damn. So, in the notes about to be posted we do a belated birthday cheer. I hate when that happens and hopefully he will forgive me and us.
-
Let's give him lots of birthday love.

I still have to do the warm saltwater thing.

It simply must be done.

After all, we ARE civilized, are we not?

I'm dancing as fast as I can.

You can lead a horse to water and then change horses mid-stream.

I read that somewhere.

Save the wishes for the new topic. I wrote him an e-mail.

You can lead a horse to water and then change horses mid-stream.
Or, as Dorothy Parker said, "You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think."
;)
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Changing the topic now.
-
Closer than ever.
Starting here, starting now.
I'd read that Maltby and Shire are working on a third, and final, revue.

What would be cool is, if there is one, Kritzerland records the original cast album. :)
