Well, you've read the notes, the notes were short and semi-sweet, and now it is time for you to post until the short and semi-sweet cows come home.

And the word of the day is: CROMULENT!

Topic of the Day:
Color:
Definitely The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, but the first movie I thought of is The Fall (https://www.amazon.com/Fall-Lee-Pace/dp/B001BPJJ9G/), starring Lee Pace. There are several other movies called "The Fall," but this one is beautiful.
Black and White:
Metropolis
Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans
Hybrid:
The Wizard of Oz ;)

Fifteen pages done and I think I fixed everything I needed to fix.

Good morning, all!
-
After the loust night before. last night was amazing. I slept almost eright hours straight before I weoke around 4:15 for a bathroom break. I went back to sleep unril the alarm rang at 5:30. This morning I had a lot of cleanup after Stella had three - 3! count 'em 3! - hairball incidents. It was gross.
-
So . . . today I need to finish the bathroom cleanup of the mess the plumbers left me and take the trash and recyclables to the basement. Then I will return to the iTunes mess. I'm still on the A's. The iTunes creators are so stupid. The mp3 files for an album are not on the computer's hard drive by title or song title. No sir, they are under the artist's name, so a cast abum or opera with 2-6 singers needs to be rebuit from a number of entries. My 2012 recording of Dearest Enemy has to be rebuit from these files:
Kim Criswell, Annalene Beechy
Kim Cruswell, Philip O'Reilly
Kim Criswell, Philip O'Reilly, John Molloy, Joe Corbett, Men's Chorus
Kim Criswell, Ladies' Chorus
Annalene Beechy, James Cleverton
Annabele Beechy, Ladies
Annabele Beechy, Rachel Kelly
James Cleverton, Men's Chorus
James Ceverton, Annabele Beechy, Ensemble
James Cleverton, Hal Cazelet
Rachel Kelly, Hal Cazelet
I'll never live to see the end of this mess. I'm now estimating this job weill take me around six months.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Another night, another bizarre dream. Good riddance to it.
-
On TCM last night I came in late for The Manchurian Candidate but watched to the end. Then I stayed awake for maybe half of Nightmare (1956) which seems to be a cult-like film, but I DVR'ed it so I can see it later.
-
Today is a real Saturday, but it feels like my fourth or fifth Saturday in a row.
-
Saturday. And it is 15 degrees headed for 29 degrees and less than 24 hours away from 10 inches of snow - or so.
-
Bk, you wrote in the notes about possible leading ladies "the only two candidates they had either don’t want to audition or think they have other gigs"
Does "don’t want to audition" mean she'd accept an offer of the part if she didn't have to audition?
-
Rodzinski, glad you're feeling better!
-
Iris, it's so good to see you posting more, You were greatly missed.
-
Good morning, all.

Lousy night of little sleep. I dreamt of riding horses.

Saturday. And it is 15 degrees headed for 29 degrees and less than 24 hours away from 10 inches of snow - or so.
Ahh...I know you are absolutely over the moon about this. So much snow and so lovely to watch it drift from the sky and cover everything!
Or...not?
-
All-you-can-eat dim sum this morning. So much for any weighty resolutions.
I could do some damage to an all-you-can-eat dim sum. Will there be sticky rice?
-
TOD:
Yes, those movies named are very beautiful, especially "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg".
I'll add, for color films:
"Lust for Life'
"The Black Rose"
"There's No Business Like Show Business"
"Leave Her to Heaven"
"Blood and Sand"
"Black Narcissus"
And for black-and-white:
"Sunrise"
"Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf"
"A Place in the Sun"
"Hud"
"Seconds"
"Manhattan"

Lousy night of little sleep. I dreamt of riding horses.
Maybe we can set that horse dream to music. The (decidedly serious) show FAMILY MUSIC, which I co-wrote with the fabulous Marian Weiner, actually has a song that started with "Last night I dreamed of a grey horse, running across a cloudy sky"

DR Iris I hope you have enough food and supplies, and do not need to go outside for a few days.
-
DR Rodzinski I'm glad you can eat again.
-
Who is going to make those Rice Krispie Chocolate Chip Cookies?
-
I guess I'm up - maybe four hours of sleep. I really think those ribs did a number on me.
-
I used to bake cereal cookies that were good, though did not look pretty like these do.
-
Freddie - it's a membership company so everyone has to audition. The only two gals they had that were anywhere near being okay for the show think they have paying gigs coming up, but my guess is those aren't real yet and they're just hoping they are. I'm happy to go outside for that role because without someone great we don't have a show.
-
I wonder if I still have the recipe. I think they had Rice Krispies, Cornflakes, and Oatmeal.
-
DR Jane-
I remember baking cookies using the recipe that came with Quaker Oats.
-
Here it is:
Ingredients
1 1/4 Cup(s) (2-1/2 sticks) margarine or butter, softened
3/4 Cup(s) firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 Cup(s) granulated sugar
1 Egg(s)
1 Teaspoon(s) vanilla
1 1/2 Cup(s) all-purpose flour
1 Teaspoon(s) Baking Soda
1 Teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon(s) salt (optional)
1/4 Teaspoon(s) ground nutmeg
3 Cup(s) Quaker® Oats (quick or old fashioned, uncooked)
-
Cooking Instructions
Heat oven to 375°F.
In large bowl, beat margarine and sugars until creamy.
Add egg and vanilla; beat well.
Add combined flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg; mix well.
Add oats; mix well.
Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 8 to 9 minutes for a chewy cookie or 10 to 11 minutes for a crisp cookie.
Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets; remove to wire rack.
Cool completely.
Store tightly covered.
-
I added chocolate chips.

Iris, it's so good to see you posting more, You were greatly missed.

I do need to go out on Tuesday for my follow up appointment with my surgeon.
I really hope we have no remaining snow and ice on the ground.

TOD: For color, I found What Dreams May Come starring Robin Williams to be visually stunning. For black and white, the look of The Third Man has really stayed with me.
-
I do need to go out on Tuesday for my follow up appointment with my surgeon.
I really hope we have no remaining snow and ice on the ground.
Is someone driving you to your appointment?
-
Thank you for the recipe DR Iris. My recipe was different. I went in search of it to confirm if it included Corn Flakes or not. It didn't though I might have occassionally tossed them in the mix.
-
Here is the original receipe.
1 cup Crisco
1.5 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2 Cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup Quaker Oats2 cups Rice Krispies
Bake on 325 degrees until light brown

Jimmy Carter said he wanted to live long enough to vote. Then he lived even longer. I wonder if he intentionally held out so that the flag would be flying half-staff on January 20th.

CONGRATULATIONS, BK, on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!

Thanks for the kind thoughts Jane and Freddie. I could always eat, but o just had to be careful as I felt something bad coming in that gets much worse if I don’t adjust my eating habits. And I do have the bad habit of reclining after meals. Can’t do that.
-
Now spaghetti, I can really get behind! :)
-
And the word of the day is: CROMULENT!
I remember that from Sunday in the Park with George! ;)

Tales of Hoffman looks great to me. Also Leave Her to Heaven.

Thanks for the recipe, DR DR Iris!

There was a time I would look at food and decide if I wanted to deal with the pain of GERD or IBS. Thankfully the medication I am on for GERD helps my IBS and I don't need to be as careful with food as often.
I have a friend who swore drinking lots of water cured her GERD, yet for me it seemed to make it worse. Natural black licorice helps but it also makes IBS worse. I had to give up milk chocolate and now appreciate dark chocolate more. Nestle chocolate really bothers me and now I use Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Dark Chocolate chips. Absolutely no carbinated drinks.
What foods do you find that make it worse?
-
DR Jane, my DH started an Rx recently for GERD and has found it to be pretty effective. I don't know what it's called.
-
Before that, it was TUMS after almost every meal.
-
We actually saw the sun for a little bit today, which was nice. I don't think the "feels like" has gotten above 0, however.
But I'll take that over snow.
-
I thought the sets, costumes, and "look" of the recent Wicked were pretty impressive.
-
TOD: For color, I found What Dreams May Come starring Robin Williams to be visually stunning.
Yes!!
-
DR Jane, my DH started an Rx recently for GERD and has found it to be pretty effective. I don't know what it's called.
I'm taking Protonix. I first one I tried didn't work and made my stomach hurt more than usual. Nothing completely stops bad GERD but the right one makes life better. The meds also got me off of my mostly Basmati diet I was on for my IBS. I can east Big Ass Salads again.
-
Before that, it was TUMS after almost every meal.
Tums just make me sick.

Does anyone have snow yet?

When it comes on, no particular food makes it worse. Maybe tomatoes. JohnG brought up a hiatal hernia, and a lot of the symptoms tracked. I really think it happens because I eat too quickly sometimes.
-
I definitely stay away from low-quality chocolate.
-
One more.

But do they eat Tums in Tumwater?

Good question, DR Freddie.

Do they drink water in Tumwater, for that matter?

These are the burning questions of the day, which DR George must answer!

Got my 2024 W2 already.

So I'm ready to file my taxes!

Not really.

LOL. I bet you have tons of rain like we do.

I couldn't eat tomatoes or tomato sauces for a long time. Onions too.

On hold with UPS - no one can find this package that was supposedly delivered yesterday but wasn't. They keep telling me someone will call me and no one ever does.
-
Outrageous. And a twelve-minute hold.
-
Futzing and finessing took a long time. I've only written three or four new pages, but I should be able to do more in an hour or so.
-
Had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich for food.
-
What is this page four malarkey?

Not very sporting.
-
Been dozing off.

I hate being on hold.

I hate the music one is forced to listen to on endless repeat.

Hopefully, they'll answer soon.

>:(
-
Vibes the missing package is found.
-
I must say, my UPS Store has not been helpful or caring about this. They just keep saying to file a claim. First of all, I can't file anything, the shipper has to do that. They just want to get off the phone with me. I've been a customer at this UPS Store even before they moved to this location, and let me tell you how long that is - about twenty-five YEARS.
-
Just ridic.
-
I hate the music one is forced to listen to on endless repeat.
I hate that the music is soooo loud when I am on hold.
-
Have no idea if anyone at the hub has bothered to look for it because - they don't call back as promised.
-
No one wants to do their job.
-
Or take responsibility.
-
They just don't care. And it's why they're all losing money.
-
I thought the sets, costumes, and "look" of the recent Wicked were pretty impressive.
Agreed!

Snow is coming to Northern Virginia too. I hope there won't be as much as the weather app on my phone forecasts: 9-11 inches
-
Six pages so far, but they're really good pages and were really fun to write. I don't know if I have nine more in me, but I'll take an hour break and then start up again and see how far I get.
-
That would be a lot for an area that's not used to it, DR KevinH.
-
DR Kevin is the snow expected early tomorrow evening?
-
DR JANE no snow here in the dark.....but snow expected as the sun comes up.
We shall see what happens.
-
I may take a glance at WICKED tonight we shall see.
-
It is another fashion show at the Timberwolves game tonight.....Luka is wearing a black turtle neck shirt, black jeans, and a brown leather vest, and stylish brown shoes.
-
Continued writing vibes for MR BK.
-
This is the "chart" my DH was presented with at Temple last night, which he and the band were expected to sight-read.
The Hebrew goes from right to left, but the chord symbols go from left to right. Also, they were not advised until they started playing what key the Cantor (on guitar) was playing in.
I would have run screaming from the building.
-
I am bamboozled by that chart DR singdaw.
I need a drink.
-
Anyone planning to watch the Golden Globes tomorrow night?
-
I believe they are airing on CBS and/or on Paramount+ with Showtime.
-
I had about $10 in Papa Johns Dough money that was soon to expire.
So I ordered two medium one topping pizzas at $6.99 each for delivery. With all of the added charges - less my Dough - the charge was $9.69 and I tipped the driver $5.....so I have food for the snow in for about $15.
Pizza is NOT on my diet but I thought I might get by if I make it last three days and don't have to cook!
I only hope I don't lose power.
No snow yet!
-
Not me DR singdaw.....I have sworn off "award" shows.
-
DR JANE no snow here in the dark.....but snow expected as the sun comes up.
We shall see what happens.
Good luck.
-
Tonight seems to be "improvised movies" night on TCM.
I can't think of a form I hate more.....not nearly as clever or smart or real as they think they are......
Actors really do need a script AND a director.

I do need to go out on Tuesday for my follow up appointment with my surgeon.
I really hope we have no remaining snow and ice on the ground.
Is someone driving you to your appointment?
Yes, Jane, I hired my late mother’s caregiver for all of my appointments.
-
I have been alone for all of the medical appointments, other than her.
It’s been challenging, to say the least.
-
Our current weather forecast:
Sunday Night, Snow, mainly after 10pm. Low around 24. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Monday, Snow. High near 27. East wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Monday Night, Snow likely, mainly before 1am.
🥶 I am not amused.
-
I miss living in Arizona and California!
-
Sending weather vibes to all affected.
Stay warm and safe.

Good evening, all.

It's been a frazzled evening. Dance was good, just long.

After dim sum, I didn't eat much of anything tonight.

I'm hungry now.

But it's bedtime.

I started listening to the Wicked soundtrack, which I got from the library.
-
I listened to more of it than I have been able to of the OBC.
-
I only made it through 10 minutes of Baron Munchausen.

It's visually stunning, but I just wasn't in the mood.

It's hard to go to deal with doctors without a support person there, especially for serious issues.
-
Ah, the page that shall not be named.
-
Ten pages so far and I can definitely do at least a couple more before bed, and there's nothing wrong with twelve pages in a day.
-
But if I'm on a roll, it could end up at fifteen. We shall see.
-
Time to write some notes, because I haven't already written enough today.
-
Why I oughta...

Fish?
-
Get me off this damn Geraldine Page.
-
I was watching a movie that Maureen Stapleton is in. They had really good old age make-up on her, not that she wasn't old when this film was made, because she was, but boy, the makeup made her look like a slightly thinner version of my grandmother, Grandma Gelfinbaum in the Kritzer books, Grandma Gross in real life. Gussie Gross.

The name Tumwater comes from the "tumbling waters" of the Deschutes River that flows through the area :)

Anyone planning to watch the Golden Globes tomorrow night?
I didn't know that they were on! I'll ask my sister's boyfriend to record them for me.
-
I had about $10 in Papa Johns Dough money that was soon to expire.
That's grand, Jrand! ;)

Oh my, how well did they manage?
I haven't listened to the stream yet, but I think the word "trainwreck" was used. :)

Ten pages so far and I can definitely do at least a couple more before bed, and there's nothing wrong with twelve pages in a day.
But if I'm on a roll, it could end up at fifteen. We shall see.
PUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I really need a good night's sleep tonight.

New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
I think I'll shower and then try writing four more pages.
-
We'll see how that all works.
-
Where'd George get to?
-
He's probably down a rabbit hole.
-
Guess I'll change the topic.
-
Why not?
-
Who is gonna stop me?
-
I won't get in my own way.
-
I may go shopping for an already assembled bar stool that's more comfy than this awful thing I have.
-
I have no idea where to even look for such a thing. Does Macy's have them?
-
I have no idea.
-
Not one.
-
I certainly don't want to go to Ikea because I would have to assemble whatever I got there.
-
I must research, I guess.
-
I do feel that page nine is waiting in the wings.
-
See?
