Well, you've read the notes, the notes were rich, and now it is time for you to post until the rich cows come home.

And the word of the day is: QUINTESSENTIAL!

Topic of the Day: not a real fan of much fish...mostly only fish-and-chips or fish sandwich-type of breaded fish. ::)
-
Notes unsheathed. Brandished.
-
TOD: I’ve been enjoying the mango tango sushi roll at our favorite spot.
-
Mrs R is currently in Munich. Though she was back through the weekend, this is another week of solo dad work till Thurs.
-
Apparently I can’t sleep much past 3 a.m. when she’s away, the kids are in my bed, and about 30 stuffed animals have joined us.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well with the ever-faithful Thatch. He loves to cuddle and I love the enthusiastic leaps and hops he makes whenever he jumps onto the bed and runs to settle next to me. I had room break at 4:50, and I decided to get up rather than lie in bed for 40 minutes until the alarm rang. Annabelle then leaped onto the bed from the cat tree and spent the next 15 minutes while I dressed sneezing and blowing snot all over me and thed bed.
-
I was feeling fine until I opened the cans of Fancy Feast and began putting it into their bowls. I made it to the bathroom where I spent the next thirty minutes being sick. I feel fine at the moment, but things ca turn.

I'm im a very awkward position at the moment with my medical issues because Con Edison, our utilities company, has been replacing pioes on West 82nd Street. For two months now, the crew has drivenazy with the construction noise right under our window and half the time the street is closed off to traffic. The worst part is that I keep moving appointments because with the street closed off Access-a-Ride cannopt get to my building to pick me up or deliver me back. Even worse, Con EWdison keeps moving the completion date. I hate to move all the appointments this month, but I have to do it.
-
My only good news is that I had a fantastic work session with my student Joe yesterday. He's a very good composer, and the chart we looked over was fun and full of humor and invention. He asked me id another student, and I said, All I can get!
-
He has a trombonist friend - I didn't ask, but it may be one of the three in his orchestra - just out of the Royal Academy of Music who needs some arranging help. I hope he contacts me.

Good morning, all.

Envying Messrs. Kimmel and Harvey their Smoke House meals!
-
Back to the music today. Playing a spring concert this evening, got another one to get ready for Thursday afternoon, and I've got to learn Piano 2 of Chicago for the probing of a sitz on Thursday evening. Then next week is all Chicago.
-
I would LOVE to be eating more fishes of the sea than I do. I just so rarely think of it. BK's stuffed salmon sounds wonderful. It's been way too long since we grilled any salmon, and I'd like to make this the summer of its return. Nathan just recently set up a smoker, so we can do that now.

Good morning, all.

If the smell of the cat food triggered it, perhaps you're pregnant.

It is getting into the 80s here during the day, although the nights are still cool. I am hoping the building will turn on the A/C soon. I don't sleep well when it's over 80 inside.
-
TOD: I roast salmon filets about once a week. Just a little olive oil, salt, and pepper, then into the oven at 425 degrees for 12-13 minutes. Flaky, Delicious.
-
And so easy!
-
Topped with squirts of fresh lemon juice and a tiny bit of mayo.
-
TOD: These years, favorites are shrimp cocktail, various salmon dishes with rice, and a very occasional lobster bisque
Back in my youth, I really liked Arthur Treacher's fish and chips, which I realize probably weren't all that healthy - but it seemed to be everywhere and was quite the taste treat, at a time in my life when I so often seemed to be on the go and looking for food you could get fast (hence the term fast food, I guess)

Apparently I can’t sleep much past 3 a.m. when she’s away, the kids are in my bed, and about 30 stuffed animals have joined us.
Is that kind of like the 30 dolls that the President talks about? :)

I want “my favorite dish, fish,” as the Andrews Sisters sang. I’ll eat it however you serve it, from sashimi to salmon croquettes. I’ll try to make most any kind of fish from flounder fillets to tuna steaks. I once made salt-encrusted whole fish, which was nice and showy, tasted great, but isn’t really a dish for one.

I want some seafood, Mamma!

I want some seafood, Mamma!
Later incorporated as a band name Seafood Mama, by a group from Seattle who would change their name and have much success as Quarterflash.

Fred I kept the Arthur Treacher’s in business in the sad little food court that used to be on 8th Ave 44/45th. Might have been one of the last to carry the brand name.

If that's the food court I'm thinking of on 8th Avenue that I'd drop in on from time to time, it had a Nathan's there too which was probably not impressive looking, but looked clean and the franks and French fries were tasty.
Not sure why I didn't eat at the Arthur Treacher's there; maybe, just maybe, because the Nathan's seemed to have a lot of customers so it felt like it would have better food turnover?
-
The layout of food establishments at that 8th Avenue food court seemed very similar to a multi-franchise food court in Penn Station near NJ Transit that had a Nathans, a KFC and a Cinn-a-Bon.
In Penn Station, everything was remarkably fresh and well-run, and they were accustomed to packing things very well to take on the train - especially if you mentioned that you were taking it on the train, and even more so if you conspicuously showed them you had a tip in your hand poised to leave it for them.
-
I'm up, I'm up - three hours of sleep, I think.
-
I'm trying to recall if the food court in Penn Station had an Arthur Treacher's back when I was using NJ Transit out of Penn Station pretty regularly.
I also worked two blocks from Penn station up for 18 years to 2010, so it was easy to pop into Penn Station and partake of the food offerings that were used to dealing with travelers and LIRR/NJ Transit/Amtrak commuters, and which seemed to be run aware of the competition for your on-the-go food dollar.
-
The food court on 8th Avenue in the low 40s (assuming we're talking about the same food court) seemed to be a relative ghost town except in the hours before and after the Broadway shows. But turnover was terrific before shows and between shows n omatinee days.
When I was rehearsing a show at the Roy Arias Theatre in early 2014 in the Midtown International Festival Theatre Festival, at 43rd and 8th, (at the same time as I was working at firm on 42nd near 6th), the eats over by there seemed quite good.
-
I'm up, I'm up - three hours of sleep, I think.
Yikes, that's not good! Maybe you'll doze off a bit to make up for it.

Yes, same spot. It had a Church’s Chicken in the way back that I’d hit up on undisciplined nights. The Treacher’s now that you mention it, was half Treacher’s, half Nathan’s and you could tell from the reactions of the kids who worked there that people ordering the fish was pretty rare.

I sent some votes for DR JOHN G.

It is 68 degrees here now.....and a few clouds in the sky. Very nice spring weather.

BK, last month I never received two parcels - one media mail and one priority mail - from the US Postal Service, although the USPS tracking service claims they were delivered. So far, your book has not yet arrived, to my knowledge.

Really excellent!
I wonder if a lot of those politicians really are incompetent, or if many of them are really skilled at being really wicked, but for the sake of a terrific song, it's fun to go with that!
-
Most excellent DR JOHN G !

The secretary of education has issued a sub literate letter, which shows she may be both incompetent and wicked.

Well, didn't 47 say her official goal as the secretary of education to get rid of the Department of Education?

Last fall, after Mom died, I bought five irises of various colors, like she used to have around the house: black, burgundy, yellow, etc. Only two started to grow in the early spring. I thought the other three were dead. Then the third sprouted and later the fourth. I went out after the rain today and saw that the fifth has made an appearance. I won’t get flowers this year, but the plants will hopefully grow.

I am very glad it seems your plants will grow.

Great news - the building finally turned on the A/C condensers today. I am hoping for a better night of sleep.

Tonight we watched and enjoyed The Chaperone, a PBS production loosely based on the life of Louise Brooks.
-
From the folks that brought you Downton Abbey.
-
We've also been watching The Four Seasons, the series adaptation of the Alan Alda movie, on Netflix. A Tina Fey production.

Enjoyed the new Randy Rainbow and the vet clip, as well.

I loved the original movie. Will I like the series?
-
You will probably find it crass by comparison.
-
With unnecessary "twists."
-
Still, it's occasionally funny, and the acting is fun.
-
Getting ready to start a movie I don’t think I’ll like: Liam Neeson as “Marlowe.”

Marlowe is based on a novel by John Banville, not Chandler. Only Alan Cumming gives an interesting performance.

Alan Cumming is always interesting.

Starting Paul Gordon’s musical version of Pride & Prejudice. Not liking it. And the costumes make the men look fat. The Regency dresses don’t flatter the women.
