And a Very Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers and mothers-by-proxy!!
-
Oh yeah, Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers out there in the dark.
-
Maybe I'll add that to the notes.
-
Good morning, all! And Happy Mother's Day!
-
My mother was a difficult lady. This is her high school graduation photo.
She wasn't happy. Her family was dirt poor and her options when she graduated from Middletown High school in 1942 were few. She wanted art school but ended up clerking at Grants' Department Store. She married for the wrong reasons, and my father, brothers, and I suffered from her resentments, crushed dreams, and depression. If she were a character in a play, she would be Sally Durant Plummer in Follies.
Unlike my father, her love was conditional. I loved her, but I can honestly say I do not miss her. I do hope she is at peace.
-
On a happier note, on this day in 2019, the Saturday before Mother's Day on May 12, I attended a New York City Animal Care Center adoption at a now gone pet supplies store on Amsterdam Avenue. I went looking for a small dog, and in retrospect, it's good the only one there was too large for my apartment since I could no longer walk it after June 2020. What I found there was a 3-month old tuxedo kitten. I named her Stella.
-
This morning around 11:00, Bob Kosovsky, my friend from the Music Division of the NY Library for the Performing Arts, is coming to visit. He's one of my favorite people, and I haven't seen him since 2019, so I'm looking forward to our visit.
-
I have much to accomplish before he arrives.

Good morning, all.

Have a great visit, DR elmore3003. I've never met Bob in person, but he's a FB friend and a former work colleague of my friend (now retired) Charles Eubanks at Lincoln Center.

It's a stretch, but there's also Diana in A CHORUS LINE singing "Mother fat, always in the kitchen cooking all the time."
But "Mother fat" never really caught on, for some reason.

-
Good morning, all.

The show last night (Into the Woods) was good, but I was starting to fade during the latter portions of the second act. T'was a late night. Orchestra was pretty good, but it was reduced to 9 from the 14 or 15 players required (at this small house that was the absolute limit that would fit in the space), so there were certainly passages that would have been so much better with the full complement. C'est la vie.
-
Big week coming up -- my last really big one for a while. Another spring concert Tuesday evening, followed by two rehearsals and three performances of Chicago, and a voice master class-type of thing on Saturday morning.
-
And the festivities start off tomorrow morning - a Monday, of course - with schlepping the cat to the vet for his follow-up blood work to check how his thyroid meds are doing. That's always stressful, what with having to "drug" him first thing in the morning, get him into the carrier, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
-
Mother’s Day greetings! Yesterday I received flowers from Rob and his family. Last night that family grew with the arrival of George Walter Palmer!

DR Elmore, be sure to tell him about the “I could be a librarian” epiphany I had in his library in 1967. It led to a great 35-year career.

Great news from DR GINNY.
I have a new great nephew who was born at 2 p.m. yesterday.
No name as yet.

Glad to hear that DR singdaw is staying on one level.

Today is the first round of auditions for The Cemetery Club - I don't expect a lot of people....but we shall see what we shall see.
Everything is packed and ready to go in a couple of hours.

:) More queasy than the last fifteen minutes of Succession?

In Greencastle years ago I worked in theeder with a woman Ann whose mother is Martha Hyer's sister.
She was my height. One day Ann was wearing a very nice sweater. I told her it was very nice. She said it was a hand me down from her Aunt Martha. I noticed that the sleeves were rolled up a couple of times at her wrist. Ann said "Aunt Martha has gorilla arms."
Something to look for when you watch her in a movie. I notice she does usually have her arms bent at the elbow and never dangling at her side.
-
Although, to be fair, I think those last fifteen minutes of Succession were meant by the artists to make some of us viewers queasy.
-

I loved the last fifteen minutes of Succession. None succeeded, except for the sycophant. How long that would last is anyone's guess. Shiv's ending was the biggest wow. And I loved it. Was she whoring herself out? Sure. But it fits. What kind of mother would she be? Ken was always alone. Even with a bodyguard. And Roman was never going to mature.
-
Oy! Auditions! Good luck, DR Jrand74.

Was I seeing things wrong, or was Shiv guzzling alcohol in a lot of season 4 even more than she did before knowing she was pregnant?

Happy Mother’s Day! My first without a mother.
I was thinking about you yesterday knowing today would be difficult.
-
My son, DIL, and grandson came over for a visit last night. Today they will do their own Mother's Day thing.
That is a thoughtful way to do Mother's Day. I feel bad that once we left LA we never returned for a Mother's Day.
-
Not that the date is convenient to return to visit. My children never will due to the school schedule-lol

Good luck. When I get my thyroid checked I am told not to take my meds for four hours prior to the test. Is it the same with cats?

I think not. At any rate, this doc has never told us to do that.
-
Interesting. I wouldn't be too concerned. For years and years I never did that.
-
DR Ginny, what wonderful news! How's Rob doing?
-
I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.
-
Shortly, I'll go to Gelson's and figure out food.
-
Or food will figure out me.

Bob arrived at 11:00 and we had a wonderful visit. I havent seen him since maybe 2019, so we had a lot to catch up on. We've both been through prostate cancer, so we compared notes. Since he sees almost everything, I wanted to hear about Audra in Gypsy (thumbs down), Wonderfyl Town and Love Life at Encores!, and other shows and concerts. Annabelle and Stella really loved him and climbed all over him, and Thatch hid out but then started showing himself from a distance because he's a little flirt.
-
Good afternoon!

Happy Mother's Day!

Just got off the phone with my friend Bonnie and her sister. Bonnie has aphasia and her loss of vocabulary is heartbreaking. Should not happen to a writer.

It’s supposed to be 104 here Wednesday. I was glad I was headed for the hill country. Then I saw the forecast is for it to be 107 there. Yikes!

Sounds like fun DR ELMORE.

I had a grand total of four ladies at auditions - the number of roles in the play....but hopefully I will get a couple of more choices tomorrow.
Oh....and I need man.....for the play that is.

Four Ladies at Auditions - that's the title of my next three-act play.
-
I went to Gelson's and got faux chicken stroganoff stuff and have enough of it leftover if I want Wacky Noodles this week.
-
I'm very full.
-
I don't know why it's so filling - one medium chicken breast, sautéed onions, a can of cream of mushroom, some low-fat milk, and one tablespoon of sour cream. Over rice. I feel like I've eaten a house.
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR Ginny and DR Jrand74 on the new additions to their families!!! Such happy news.

LOL! Very special present!
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
Watching the rest of The Man Who Wasn’t There. I remembered next to nothing, especially the ending.
-
That movie had the worst “making of …” extra I can remember seeing.
-
So, I am starting Summer of Soul in the background. The music is special.
-
Anne Baxter’s grandfather was Frank Lloyd Wright? Why can I not wrap my head around this?
-
Good night, all.
-
Four Ladies at Auditions - that's the title of my next three-act play.
Sounds like it would be a fun show to see!
-
Keith got Wordle in four today.
Good for Keith!
-
What the effing eff?!? :o
MAGA tried to bribe Cardinals (https://youtube.com/shorts/WikNIOn1mZk)
But I'm absolutely NOT surprised! ::)
Not surprising at all. I didn't realize that 80% of the cardinals eligible to vote were put there by Pope Francis.
I didn't know that, either. Glad he was able to get that done. ;)
-
On the way home we did a quick stop at Best Buy to return our purchases since Keith found what he had originally wanted at Costco, and we have credit there so it was a big savings.
I went to Costco yesterday in preparation for today's meal (and game of Phase 10) at my mom's, and I had a gift card from my birthday. I used my Costco gift card to buy Subway gift cards!
-
That may seem counter-intuitive, but the Subway (and many other kinds of) gift cards cost $79.99, but you get $100 in value! And if I use them with coupons, double score!
-
A treat!

:))

Of course, it would have to have expired in 1994. ::)
;)

Mother’s Day greetings! Yesterday I received flowers from Rob and his family. Last night that family grew with the arrival of George Walter Palmer!
Congrats to the entire Palmer family...but especially the parents!
And great name, by the way. ;)
Thanks, glad you like it! George was Mary Linda’s maternal grandfather and Walter was Rob’s maternal grandfather (my father). That kind of undid me for a minute last night…
That is so sweet!

SIX!

Baby kitties!!

What? :o Who'da thunk it??
-
Finished with my viewing. A really strange and compelling film with a great central performance.
-
Had a muffin for a sweet treat.
-
Had a nice chat with Robert Yacko.
-
Most importantly, I opened the Word doc of the book I'm thinking about writing - book two this year - I've been waffling whether to write it at all, frankly, or whether to make it about more than it's about.
-
I read the three pages i'd written and I was very surprised at how much I liked the feel of them. So, I think I've made my decision to write it - I don't need to be in a hurry and I do think it will be a fairly short book, maybe 150 to 170 pages, book layout-wise. But it will be what it will be. Another thing I'll be writing before starting this is a chapter on directing Drat! The Cat! My plan is to write additional chapters on shows I direct and then do a second edition of the book at some point, but in the meantime, make the extra chapters available for reading and downloading online. What do you think?
-
Haven't we had enough of this page?
-
See?
-
Well, I better write some damn notes.

That would be really cool!

That would be great! I think on Kindle, iBooks, etc. you can also upload updated eBook versions that prior purchasers can download. So not the same "2nd edition" constraints as for print books.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
I'll try to be in bed by two.
