Well, you've read the notes, the notes were sheer Shearing, and now it is time for you to post until the Shearing cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BONUS!

-
Good morning, singdaw. The thing that went wrong during the move - sending vibes it's all OK now.
-
Thanks, DR Freddie!
-
All is now more-or-less resolved.
-
Slightly Askew will be the title of my next memoir.

Very helpful!
-
I realized there must be pages and pages of "But Alive!" references and parody lyric snippets somewhere in the archives of HHW posts.
-
Maybe those are what the hundreds of Guests are looking for. :)
-
I have no idea how to access them, but they could have come in handy for yesterday's page totals.
I think "But Alive!" parodies honor Strouse and Adams, rather than make fun of them.
-
Others may think otherwise, of course.
-
I was surprised that someone on castrecl said that "But Alive!" is - well, I won't repeat what he wrote, but he's not a fan of the song.
-
For those who don't get castrecl, that person said "But Alive!" was "near-terrible" -and he was surprised that the New York Times noted "But Alive!" as a Charles Strouse song they linked and highlighted.
-
Good morning, all!
-
The link to Alan Cumming's rendition of "But Alive!" bears repeating - to honor Mr. Strouse and prove the song is liftable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLoHJL0MQeQ
Should his reference to Demi Moore become an official part of the song?
(Maybe not.)
-
Another sickly afternoon and early evening. I don't know how much was provoked by my morning bout with ammonia and the mess in the bathtub or if it was this malaise I;ve been going through for too long. Either way, it was ugly, unpleasant, and lasted too long.
-
This will be a long day with the Annabelle & Thatch audiobook. My goal is to get through all of it by tomorrow night.
-
Good morning.

I realized there must be pages and pages of "But Alive!" references and parody lyric snippets somewhere in the archives of HHW posts.
Those were always some of my most favorite.

Happy news about the progress of the print and audio versions of DR elmore3003's book.

CONGRATULATIONS to DR George on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to DR Jane on your lofty new perch in the HHW firmament!!!

DR George - is your ITW production using "Our Little World"?

~~~BLOCKING-THE-PLAY VIBES~~~ for DR Jrand74!!!
Caught up on all the posts. Now I have to go back and get caught up on all the daily Notes.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Two!
-
Really tired this morning. Glad I don’t have to be anywhere.
-
Kitty cleanup is finished. Thankfully, the bathtub and bathroom floor were unscathed. Next, the bed and then on to the audiobook.
-
Second blurb just arrived!
"Not only did I find it cleverly compelling, my cat Tatiana confirms it as the season's most entertaining and enchanting page-turner."
David Staller, Gingold Theatrical Group
-
Wonderful, DR elmore3003! Congratulations.
Lovely blurb!
YouTube seems to have decided that I want more and more short clips about Parker Posey's line readings in WHITE LOTUS Season 3. :)
This one is Patrick Schwarzenegger, who plays her son on the show, reacting on the Today Show to Parker Posey's line readings, even trying an imitation of her certain-to-be-legendary "Piper, Noooooo!"
-
DR Singdaw congratulations on completing your move. Wishes you are very happy in your new, larger place.
-
DR Singdaw do you use a laundry room in your building or have machines in your apartment?
-
From DR John:
That’s the way you honor someone’s memory? Oy.
:D
-
The Kennedy Center, not an organization I like anymore, posted a Facebook video of Charles Strouse playing and singing Tomorrow. Eventually he’s joined by Jason Graae, Karen Morrow and Liz Callaway. What a backup group!
Congrats to DR JANE on her new millstone.
And congrats to DR GEORGE on his as well.
-
DR singdaw you didn't take an old broom into your new apt. did you?
-
Good...
Wait a minute, I wasn't even online this morning, was I? Oy! It's been a day. Anyhoo,
...afternoon, all!
-
DR singdaw you didn't take an old broom into your new apt. did you?
Is there an old wives' tale associated with doing that?
I guess I could google that, but it's better for posting totals to ask.
-
Long and excruciating rehearsal this morning.
In the end, all is well. But for my taste, a few of these students aren't ready for daytime, let alone prime time.
And this recital thingy isn't till August, so the hell with it. It'll get better.
-
TOD Part 1: For jazz:
- Bill Evans
- Keith Jarrett
- Michel Petrucciani
- Brad Mehldau
-
TOD Part 2: For classical, just sticking with currently active pianists to narrow things down:
- Emmanuel Ax
- Yefim Bronfman
- Jean-Yves Thibaudet
Among those no longer living, I always have a soft spot for Van Cliburn since he was my introduction, plus his support of Interlochen over the years.
-
Just something my mom and her mom always said DR FREDDIE.
New house new broom....don't bring your troubles with you leave them behind.
-
TOD:
Tex Van Cliburn.
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.
-
Congrats to DR JANE on her new millstone.
Thank you.
I am fascinated by this photo I saw in Reuters. The back wall of the home was ripped off, but there the woman is sweeping her bedroom and the clothes in the shelves are still there.
Almost time to get ready for my last night in Chicago.
-
I had never heard about the broom thing.
-
But now I know.
-
Thanks, DR Jane!
We have both: there are communal machines for extra heavy loads, but we all also have our own washers/dryers within the apartments.
-
The utility room in the old apartment had room for the washer/dryer and a few coats. In the new apartment, you can walk into the area and there are many shelves for storage as well.
-
Who says he's not for sale?
-
Fun DR singdaw......you might have a square dance in there!
-
Slow day at HHW.
Beautiful day here.....69 degrees and a wonderful breeze to make the wind chimes jangle.......sunny and blue skies.
LOL DR ELMORE.
Saturday is my favorite day of the week.
Watching that Applause clip posted by DR Freddie, I just have to think:
Wasn't composer Charles Strouse fortunate that all the lesbians in that gay bar happened to have such stratospheric singing voices?
Good afternoon!
That's great. I'm hoping Craig can find an apartment to move to with room for a washer/dryer.
-
DR George - is your ITW production using "Our Little World"?
Yes, but the revised version that was used in the 2002 revival, not the original from the original London production. I guess either can be used. Our witch is a very good belter, not a Julia McKenzie soprano. ;D
Oh, my goodness! :o
-
Went to Gelson's and got sandwich stuff - rolls, turkey, roast beef, avocado, tomato, and even some lox, bagels and cream cheese for tomorrow.
-
Oh, and they finally had my creamy tomato soup so I had some of that, too.
-
So far, I've had the soup and a turkey sandwich. Quite good and quite filling. I'll have on more sandwich later for dinner, probably lox and bagel. Then the roast beef tomorrow and I'll probably even have enough for Monday.
-
Then I wrote a few pages for this new thing I'm trying to write - fun writing it and I've got eleven pages so far. Now that I'm back in that mode, I'll write every day, just a few pages, no reason to push beyond that as it will be a short book.
-
It’s been another four winery day. I am exhausted.
Good afternoon.
Hello, Laura.
-
UGH!! I'm ushering at Harlequin Productions for their production of Romeo & Juliet tonight. That in itself is fine.
-
I got a group e-mail from the Washington Center (they have events this weekend, too) reminding volunteers that the Capital City Marathon is happening this weekend, and to allow more time for parking!
-
I don't know if any actual racing events are happening when I need to get downtown, but I'd rather leave real early and find parking than not be able to find close parking...again. ::)
-
I hate it when that happens! :P
Yup. And now, I'm off to find downtown parking!
-
New Broom, New You will be the title of my next memoir.
-
We just watched Unconditional Love (2002) with Kathy Bates and Rupert Everett. It's quirky and unconventional and fun. Fun cameos.
-
Dozed off for a couple of hours.
-
Just had my second sandwich - bagel, cream cheese and lox. Very good.
-
Enter page six.
-
Gonna try and find a movie to watch.
-
And then I'm gonna watch it.
-
I don't really wish to doze off again.
-
How can it be after seven already?
-
Time flies.
-
Flies time.
-
Did no one listen to the Shearing album?
-
Did you know that the streaming site Vudu is now Fandango at Home?
-
Every time they do that, you have to make a new account in order to get your Vudu stuff. Even so, I don't think I got it all because I know I got the new transfer of North by Northwest and heaven knows where THAT is.
-
Did you know that the streaming site Vudu is now Fandango at Home?
I did not. This name-changing is so annoying.
-
Some roasted radishes, just for DR John G.'s delectation.
-
It's past my bedtime.
-
Tomorrow, I am attending a modern dance recital.
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
Modern dance is so modern.
-
You do that Vudu that You Do so well.
-
It is still 62 degrees here......very comfortable.
The pair of keets have had a good day.
-
Sunday is nigh.
-
Page Six is anathema to MR BK.
Let's move forward.
-
I am eating some Lemon cookies.
-
I have a 45 rpm extended version of Tex Van Cliburn playing the Tchaikovsky First Piano Concerto in B Flat Minor.
-
A story about him was featured in the Weekly Reader.....and I saw him on the Ed Sullivan Show.
He beat the Russkies at their own game.
-
And later I found out that he had RED hair.
-
I didn't know his name.....I did not realize his first name was Van.
But I Knew he was from Texas.....so I gave him the name Tex.....
-
I was sure at age 8 that we would be married and he would be my husband for life.
I would be Mrs. Tex Van Cliburn.
-
It was a few years later that I saw him on the cover of LIFE magazine in all of his red headed glory.....
I saved that cover for a long time.....in fact it's probably still around here some place.
-
(https://www.bruceduffie.com/cliburnlp7.jpg)
-
Tex!!!!
-
Page Seven
-
His mother was his guardian and kept him safe from interlopers like me......
None of his memoirs or books about him mention a relationship or friend or lover.....too bad......he never called me.
-
The End.
-
Not that is was an obsession or anything like that.
-
Could not find a damn thing to watch. I started four different thrillers that were so bad in their first ten minutes that I shut them off.
-
So, I'm listening to Mr. Shearing - one of his brilliant albums for the overseas label MPS - early 1970s, full orchestra and just gorgeous. MPS was known for their brilliant sound and boy does this sound great.
-
All his MPS albums came out in one set - I wonder if it's rare?
-
One copy on Amazon - 125.00 It's four CDs, though.
-
Some roasted radishes, just for DR John G.'s delectation.
Yum
-
No copies on eBay.
-
Orchestrations are by the great Robert Farnon.
-
One copy on Discogs - there are two from Europe but shipping is insane on those. But the one in the US is a great deal at $51.
-
On Discogs you can get The Shearing Piano for .99.
-
I suppose I should write some damn notes.
-
Not much to talk about.
-
Still, one must write them.
-
One must.
-
Or things will turn to dust.
-
And we will breach a trust.
-
And that's like bread without the crust.
-
Things would go bust.
-
To not write them isn't just.
-
And causes lust.
-
And hair that is mussed.
-
But I? I am non-plussed.
-
I've been a rhyming riot of late.
-
A rhyming riot who will not be quiet although I ought to try it.
-
See what I mean?
-
I mean what I see.
-
And with that - enter Page Eight!
-
We just watched Unconditional Love (2002) with Kathy Bates and Rupert Everett. It's quirky and unconventional and fun. Fun cameos.
I love that movie!
-
I was sure at age 8 that we would be married and he would be my husband for life.
I would be Mrs. Tex Van Cliburn.
;D
-
I'm home from ushering for R&J.
-
At the show, my friends John and Jamie and Jamie's boyfriend were at the show tonight!
-
John was in TAO's The HEAD!!! That Wouldn't DIE!, and Jamie was the stage manager. :)
-
After R&J, the four of us went to a local bar and hung out and chatted for about 45 minutes or so.
-
It was nice to ketchup on things, and talk about what might possibly be happening (in a good way!) with TAO. :)
-
Things are happening that bode quite well, so fingers crossed!
-
I don't think we'll find out anything soonly, but things have been set in motion.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
They are short and to the point.
-
But who isn't?
-
Then on my way home from downtown, I realized that I needed to use the facilities...any facilities...so I stopped at one of the local Safeways and used their facilities since they were, most fortunately, still open!
-
Hard to believe that over half this month is gone already.
-
And yet it is true.
-
Then, I came home. :)
-
Time flies.
-
The flies have flown.
-
They're on their own.
-
Sometimes they moan.
-
Hard to believe that over half this month is gone already.
Amazing!
-
Oh, enough rhyming already.
-
I'm like a living rhyming dictionary.
-
Can we make it to Page Nine?
-
I'm like living chopped liver.
-
PAGE NINE DANCE!!
-
We can and we damn well will.
-
And we damn well did.
-
Changing the topic. Hold tight.
-
WHEW!!
