Good morning, all.
-
Up early, crappy weather (solid rain), and morning rehearsals.
Can you beat that?
(Don't try.)
-
So, with rehearsals this morning and afternoon, and a concert this evening, I'll be scarce again today.
-
I let TCM rock me to sleep last night, starting with a few scenes from SAYONARA, some FLOWER DRUM SONG, then I woke up a couple of times in the middle of CRY HAPPY and THE HORIZONTAL LIEUTENANT - neither of which I'd ever even heard of. They certainly were bizarre, seen for a few minutes in the middle of the night. I should have set the DVR to record them.
Then early this morning they played a documentary on "yellowface" in Hollywood, obviously the theme last night, but I wondered why they wouldn't play that earlier, like, before the features, instead of after them at an hour when few people would even be watching. I also think that instead of FLOWER DRUM SONG which, except for the lovely Juanita Hall, isn't "yellowface" at all, they should show a real winner, TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON? Maybe that's not in their roster.
-
The Randy Vicar and the Horizontal Lieutenant - that could be quite a barn burner.
-
If anyone here knows the answer to this, please share:
Sometimes I keep browser tabs open on videos in YouTube I've lined up to watch at a later time, and it's supremely annoying to click on one of those tabs and be assaulted with the video immediately starting to play. I always leave videos in pause mode in the hope that this won't happen. I also keep that horrible "autoplay" function turned off so that YouTube doesn't automatically go to videos following the one I'm watching. That works okay, but you do have to watch to make sure it doesn't come back on by itself at some point, which I think happens sometimes.
I know videos start playing when you first go to their page, but when I pause them and leave them, I expect them to stay paused. So am I wrong to think videos should NOT play without me clicking "play"? (If this makes any sense. I just thought to ask it and I gotta run.)

Good morning, all.

Good morning, all!

Good morning, friends.

I am a parade.

Ther pinched nerve went bananas around 4:00, and for about an hour, I suffered as the pain increased in my left hand and I tried to shift my body enough to release the nerve and get back to sleep. At 5:00, I decided to get dressed. Then, as soon as the left hand began to relax, I lay down again and sept until 6. I didn't feel like getting up so I slept for another hour, cuddling with Annabelle.
-
Now, my morning schedule is all screwed up, and I am not happy about that. I won't be doing laundry today, but I do havbe several things to cart to the basement. I also need to reschedule a doctor's appointment for next week since I have no idea when the fat hell the construction on this street will cease.
-
Off to start the day.

Good morning.

Thanks! It's a strange show. If you listen to the songs, nothing makes sense. It all makes sense when you see the whole thing.
-
ChasSmith you are correct. It shouldn’t happen. I think it happens less if you are logged in to an account.
-
Someone should be held to account!
-
I'll talk to my accountant.
-
We should try to get to Page 2 before 10:30 a.m. (Eastern)
-
It seems like the right thing to do.
-
Yesterday WAS a good posting day, so maybe it can be an average calculation

But if that's not necessary, that would be good

And since we're almost there

Might as well get there

The London producers of RIDE THE CYCLONE have Broadway hits, so maybe the aim for RIDE THE CYCLONE is Broadway.

This morning has been hell. As I was struggling to get the walker out into the hall to take the trash to the basement, Stella ran out. Usually, if I give her a few minutes to check out the scene, she wants to come back inside the apartment. Not this morning, though, she ran down the stairs and promptly got lost. So, there I was, trying tro decide what to do: chase after her by emptying the bag of trah and then tracking her down or just going doqwn to the basement, emptying the bag, and then tracking her down.
-
However, she was lost and screaming her head off. So, I checked floors 5,4, and then 2, where I found her. I had to lure her onto the elevator, which took more time than I liked and then, once we were back on 3, get her into the apartment. I got her to the apartment door but she wouldn't go onside. In frustration, I whacked her on her right flank with my cane, and she went - actually ran - into the apartment. I went to the basement, then picked up the mail.
-
I guess she's forgiven me. She just climbed all over me and the computer table.
-
I hope your day gets better DR ELMORE.
-
yes lots of sports news in Indiana as reported by DR RODZINSKI.
All of it is mostly expected....except for the Pacers win.
Tonight the Timberwolves and Thunder play game two....hopefully the Wolves will tie it 1-1.
-
I don't know from Home Invasion movies.
-
I hope your day gets better DR ELMORE.
Ditto to that!
-
Good morning.

It was off-Broadway for a while. It's a great show for a small theater.

Oh, Stella! Behave yourself!

DR Singdaw, I feel bad for Jeff Reitz having to end his daily visits to Disneyland due to Covid.
-
It has been years since I've been to Disneyland. I miss it. I was lucky to go as often as I did when I was young.
-
From DR Rodzinski:
I’ve served on two criminal juries. I liked doing my service. The worst thing about it was how dumb my fellow jurors were.
That's sad.
-
But not unusual.

The same thing happens to me DR CHAS SMITH. Most annoying.

The huge name stars keep coming to New York stages, this time to the Shed at Hudson Yards (the same theater where Sondheim's final show played)
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/21/theater/tom-hanks-play-this-world-of-tomorrow.html
"Tom Hanks Wrote a Play, and Will Star in It Off Broadway This Fall
'This World of Tomorrow,' based on the actor’s 2017 short story collection, is scheduled to begin performances in October at the Shed."
-
And the stars keep coming. I'd assume James Corden is the big name that will fuel box office on this one.
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/22/theater/corden-cannavale-harris-broadway-art.html
"James Corden, Neil Patrick Harris and Bobby Cannavale Lead Broadway ‘Art’
The three actors will star in a revival of Yasmina Reza’s 1994 play, which begins performances at the end of August."
"Broadway’s run of starry plays shows no signs of slowing down."
-
From that Times article:
"At a time when almost every new musical is failing financially, six of this season’s plays have already become profitable: “Oh, Mary!,” “All In: Comedy About Love,” “Romeo + Juliet,” “Othello,” “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “Good Night, and Good Luck.”"
-
And as was reported a while back, Keanu Reeves is also scheduled for this fall in WAITING FOR GODOT!
-
Off to rehearsal.
-
From DR Rodzinski:
I’ve served on two criminal juries. I liked doing my service. The worst thing about it was how dumb my fellow jurors were.
That's sad.
I was shocked when I discovered I was not the stupidest person in the jury room. And I'm not kidding. Truly. I could not believe they fell for his story.

Actually got some work done today. Despite constant interruptions and a bird who has learned too much Arthur Miller in cockatoo squawk. Sorry, Linda Loman, attention will not be paid while I am writing.

It is amazing what people will fall for. We see that daily these days. You are smart, and also don't fall for BS.

We don't start up again until Tuesday morning.

I still have to work my regular job tomorrow.

One of the oddest show tune "shorts" YouTube has ever brought me
A singer is trying to seriously sing "Defying Gravity" at the piano, and her boyfriend keeps interrupting her (it seems channeling Billy Crystal as "Fernando")

Had some pasta with pink sauce from a new place, new to me, that is. Average.
-
I'm having my own trials right here.
-
But back to finalizing song choices.
-
I'm exhausted.
-
As in, the gas tank is empty.
-
As in, no energy.
-
As in, depleted.
-
I'll probably get in bed and be wide awake.
-
Watched Nonnas on Netflix.
-
Lots of great Italian food.
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
As in, no energy.
Sending energy vibes for tomorrow. Sleep well tonight.
-
Lots of great Italian food.
My friends who speak Italian hated it whenever somebody said cannolis. Cannoli is already plural.
-
I got a message today that a Valero station was having a sale on gas.
-
I didn’t really believe it.
-
But sure enough, it was $2.27 a gallon.
-
If you went inside and asked for a card, you got an additional 10 cents off.
-
You didn’t have to pay for the card or fill anything out. Just ask for it.
-
So, I asked for it.
-
And the gas was $2.17 a gallon.
-
Sadly I didn’t really need gas, so it took only $11 to fill the tank.
-
But the 10 cents off card is good through December.
-
The sale was going on until 7 pm.
-
Sure enough, after dance class, they wanted $2.69 a gallon.
-
I’m now watching Mickey 17. It’s not pleasant.
-
But it is occasionally funny.
-
Despite the ultra violence.
-
Five!
-
Stephen King has a new Holly Gibney novel, Never Flinch, due out Monday.
-
I hope I am much further along in my current book by the time it comes in.
-
I’m listening to the Japanese classic, The Tale of Genji.
-
Part one is 36 hours long.
-
I am almost six hours into it.
-
I need to get some sleep.
-
Good night, all.
-
Good news from DR LAURA.
-
Audra/GYPSY is on Stephen Colbert in a few minutes.....I think I will watch.
-
Rehearsal went well and they are all doing a good job.
We are in the Rehearsal Center with tape on the floor so some of the time they are supposed to be in the cemetery some folks were standing in the living room....but we have some time.
It will be easier for them when we get onstage.
-
Good rehearsal vibes, JRand!
-
Maybe I can get us to the next page
-
Page 6 at midnight is not much to crow about.

But it beats the alternative.

Rather cruel for the alternative to be beaten.

Kids had a play date today with a brother and sister whose ages match theirs nicely.
-
A play date is what we used to call “kids coming over to play.”
-
Although since we live where we do, it is a bit more involved. Visiting kids have to have their passports.
-
Anyway the boy visitor nearly ate us out of house and home.
-
Nearly killed a half gallon of milk on his own.

He’s a reason to shop at Costco.

I sent my mom footage from Johnny Mathis’s farewell concert this past weekend.

He looks like a werewolf now but still sounded good.

One of the last living crooners, really among even those whose careers peaked in the early ‘60s.

Stretching it a bit, Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdinck.

Anka still performs. Not sure about the others.

Oh, my! I can't imagine that.

George showed up late - that is why we're in a six fix.

Anyway the boy visitor nearly ate us out of house and home.
What??

Late doesn't cut the six mustard.

Or ketchup.

Nearly killed a half gallon of milk on his own.
Yikes! :o

Page six is a mighty joke.

And yet, here we are, sitting here like so much fish.

I needed some aspirin.

And shortly I shall have it.

Just see and wait.

What??
He just kept showing up in the kitchen looking for things to eat. I think his parents do feed him. Growing boy, I guess.

I have learned a thing or two this evening that I wish I'd learned about a year ago.

A little slow on the uptake over here in the Oaks of Sherman.

New notes are up.

Fave Johnny Mathis song, BK?

Up are new notes.

I've seen them.

I've read them.

I wrote them.

And now - drum roll - everyone can read them.

Even the GUESTS.

All 577 of 'em.

Crocheting and knitting.
