Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not fifty pages, and now it is time for you to post until the first fifty cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VICTORIOUS!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Mega vibes for JRand.
-
Off to work.
-
I am going to call my doctor about nine o'clock to see if he can see me today or tomorrow.
-
I watched Steve Franken in a movie last night. I first remember him from Dobie Gillis.
He certainly had a BK thing going on.....
-
I am going to call my doctor about nine o'clock to see if he can see me today or tomorrow.
Sending you health vibes, and getting an appointment soon vibes, Jrand!
-
Good morning, all!
-
Good morning to everyone
-
I slept really well until some time after midnight when the chili started talking back. Once that calmed down, Thatch joined me and Annabelle, and I slept well until the alarm rang. At one point during the night - before Thatch decided to join us - Stella climbed into bed, but she never stays long. She prefers sleeping on the floor next to the bed.
-
Ann stopped by yesterday afternoon with a pint of strawberries and a small apple pie from the farmer's market next to the Museum of Natural History. I haven't had fresh strawberries in ages.
-
She's doing me a big favor today: delivering the proofread copy of the book and audio to the publisher on West 45th Street. I am very grateful.
-
Mega vibes for JRand.
Ditto!

That's so nice of her!

Good morning, all.

Monday.
-
Third night in a row with hazy dreams that refuse to come into focus. Except I think there might be a hook on this one...stay tuned...
-
Yesterday I learned something.
Hey, it doesn't happen every day, so let me crow about it! Are you ready for it?
Who here knows the term Slime Tutorial?
Am I the last to have caught on to this?
-
Discuss amongst yourselves.

Seeing the doctor vibes for DR Jrand74!

Yesterday afternoon I ate a frozen/microwaved chicken enchilada (w/salsa verde) from Trader Joe's.
Years ago, mainly when still living in L.A., I was eating their prepared foods a lot, and I've started a cautious exploratory return to seeing what their offerings are these days. I like the carne asada burritos, heated up in the microwave, quick and easy, so I wanted to try some enchiladas which I haven't had at home in the longest time. These were pretty okay, I guess, but I cut open the package and took the tray of frozen food out before reading the instructions. For microwaving, you're supposed to make only a one-inch slit in the outer wrap itself -- there's no plastic or anything on the inner tray. Most unusual, methinks. So right away I knew I'd blown it, but I said the hell with it and put the tray back in the wrap and set it in the microwave. I had to extend my heating times, very likely due to my having opened the thing all the way. In the end, it was fine, but I didn't totally love it. Partly, because I felt it skimped on the chicken. And partly, because when something throws you off, you just eye it suspiciously even though it "eats" just fine.
Those carne asadas could probably use a little more carne, themselves, but I love the flavor and all the rest. I think you can heat both of these items in a conventional oven, and I may try that next time when I'm not so impatient. I'm sure it's more pleasing.
Next up, I think: tamales.
-
Interesting repor, DR ChasSmith. Thank you.
-
I myself have heretofore been unaware of slime tutorials.

Once again, proof that these neighbors are worth their weight in gold. And the running-the-errand favor today is a godsend.

Congratulations again to DR MichaelG on the satisfying Otello run.
And a "whew!" for the keyboardist.
I'd meant to ask earlier if you knew why they wouldn't have just hired a mandolin player. I don't believe they're a particularly rare commodity. But since I obviously know nothing about how anyone is compensated for playing, or even if it's volunteer work, or what conflicts might have existed for various players, it's just a question out of, you know, my ASS. 8)

I'm trying to post something with a tiny (65 kb) image attached, and I'm getting:

Tried a test post using a different tiny image. No go.
Can anyone else upload?

I still can.

I just discovered this amusement park that was in DRs Ginny's and Elmore's territory, even though it never closed for good until 1999. But I'm sure there are hundreds of these I never knew about and I wish I had.
From Wiki:
"Founded by Edgar Streifthau, the park originally opened in 1922 as a family picnic destination with swimming amenities. Throughout the 1940s, LeSourdsville Lake transformed into an amusement park with the addition of rides, attractions, and an arcade. The park was sold in 1961, and following heavy competition from nearby Kings Island, it was rebranded Americana Amusement Park in 1978. An electrical fire in 1990 caused over $5 million in damages and led to bankruptcy. The park continued to operate under several different owners before eventually closing in 1999."
-
Success! I tried completely shutting down the computer, and the upload worked. Isn't that just WEIRD?

I loved LeSourdsville Lake! In the 1960s and 70s, I loved to swim there. I often took my brother Randy with me. My mother loved The Cyclone, the roller coaster, and the Belgian waffles were amazing. It was about a 15-minute drive from Middletown.
The other swimming hole was the pool in Sunset Park, also a thing of the past.
-
JRand may remember a very similar place. Indiana Beach on Lake Shafer in Monticello, Indiana.
-
Indiana Beach lasted until 2020 and may have been resurrected. Unclear.
-
Many Hoosiers will recall its catchy jingle. “There’s more than corn in Indiana…”

I was wondering that too, but I imagine it's a combination of 1) the keyboardist was already involved in the show as a rehearsal pianist and helping out our chorus director who was having some vision issues during the run, 2) there was no room for the extra player in our limited pit so the keyboard was in the basement and mic'ed in; they have a lot more practice with that setup that trying to amplify and balance a mandolin.
-
The pit at our WPA-era theater is so small that the winds, brass, and percussion used to be scattered at different locations in the building and linked via video and audio cabling. Several years ago the general director said the heck with this, and now we use scaffolds on stage left and right to house the winds, brass and percussion. This sounds much better but it does cut down our usable stage space to maintain sight lines to the conductor. We might have had room for a mandolin if the score didn't also call for a harp.
-
My mother used to make squab stuffed with wild rice. It was delicious.

I'm sorry but I don't think "JUST IN...Mexico renames the Liberty Bell the TACO Bell." is funny. It just makes me want to cry.

I know, you gotta laugh or cry and usually I laugh, just not this time.

Now the photo of Snow White did make me laugh :)

Good morning.
-
We did get rain yesterday and overnight. It was a light off-and-on rain. Maybe a half inch.
Which is A LOT for us this time of year. It doesn't usually rain in the spring. Not until summer monsoons.
Rain in June used to be unheard of. Proof that the weather is changing.
-
I have heard of slime tutorials.

Too bad the power people in D.C. are pretending there's no issue about climate change.

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep, I think.
-
elmore - it's Chatsworth Osborne, Jr.
-
I first saw a slime tutorial thing two years ago, I think, when someone uploaded a complete performance of The Visit. So, I assume it's an illegal recording from the audience of a show.
-
Shortly, I shall be on my way to do banking.
-
TOD: the bassoon.
Mine too. I have a. Disc of Vivaldi bassoon concertos that I play a lot.
-
I can't pick a single favorite instrument, but DR John G.'s reminds me that back when I was listening to a lot of Toscanini recordings, in college and for a few years afterward, I loved discovering the Mozart bassoon concerto. I played that NBC Symphony recording over and over. Probably haven't heard it since, but the sound of it is still in my head.

Holy moly. I know nothing about this.
-
I've mentioned it a couple of times, Chas. It's weird. Very weird. And I love it.
-
I was thinking you probably had, and shame on me for not having followed up on it.
I do love the weird, and I will.
-
Freddie mentioned it a week or so ago. I guess there's going to be a production in London.
-
We saw it in Las Vegas last year at a very tiny theater that does weird things.
-
Sit down some evening, turn off your phone, turn out the lights, and enjoy it.
-
Along with an adult beverage?
-
Indeed.
-
It's only 90 minutes.
-
Freddie mentioned it a week or so ago. I guess there's going to be a production in London.
Here's the Broadwayworld article.
"RIDE THE CYCLONE Will Make UK Premiere in November
The musical will preview at Southwark Playhouse Elephant from Friday 14 November 2025"
https://www.broadwayworld.com/westend/article/RIDE-THE-CYCLONE-Will-Make-UK-Premiere-in-November-20250522
This listing of producers from that article suggests that there's Broadway interest.
"RIDE THE CYCLONE THE MUSICAL is produced by Kevin McCollum, Morris Berchard and Jack Maple."

We used to have an amusement park in Phoenix. Legend City.
I think I only got to go once as a kid. I took my son there when he was a toddler, but by then it was about to close down.

I am going to call my doctor about nine o'clock to see if he can see me today or tomorrow.

Yes I remember Indiana Beach.
-
Thanks for all the vibes.
I am going undergo a series of tests beginning with a cat scan. Since I am seeing hallucinations in the dark and hearing voices - the doctor thinks there may be some cognitive decline and wants to nip it in the bud, so to speak.
I have also been told that I should not drive at night - so my theeder season ends here for the year.
We have a great friend to take over Act Two of The Cemetery Club and all will continue apace.....although I won't be there.
I will be home watching tv declining cognitively speaking...once it is discovered what the problem is help will continue apace.

Warren Beatty was Milton Armitage in the first season of Dobie Gillis and of course Chatsworth Osborne Jr's mother was played by the wonderful Doris Packer.

Certainly one of my all-time favorite instruments is the French horn. Andre Previn obviously loves it, too - listen to any of his movie scores and you'll hear plenty of it.
