Well, you've read the notes, the notes were stacked, and now it is time for you to post until the stacked cows come home.

Question for Ask BK Day: Do we contribute to the number of page views better by leaving the site open in our desktops or by going out of the site and then coming back to the site?
Or is there no difference in how we access the site on the page-view statistics?
-
Thanks for explaining substacks, BK!
-
More health vibes for Jrand!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good morning, all!
-
BK, I hopefully sent you a PM; I never know iof those things go through.
-
Let the record show that I have sent an email.
-
I think I slept well, but I felt so groggy when the alarm rang that I went back to bed for another hour.
-
Is this Wednesday?
Why yes, I do believe it is.
-
Last Sunday, while I was making chili, I played the Drat! The Cat! CD several times. The score is such fun, and I love Hershy Kay's orchestrations.
-
I know nothing of Substack. It's just one example of newly or recently popular or trendy things I know nothing about.
-
Tonight I'm seeing a production of Waitress at a venue I'm guilty of not having attended prior to now:
https://www.actofct.org
It's right here in Ridgefield, next door to Danbury. An expert keyboardist friend is playing the keyboard 2 book and wrangled a ticket for me. They're hard to get, as it's not a huge venue and their shows sell out very quickly. So this will be fun and educational, finally seeing the place and meeting a few folks.
-
Anything theeder-related done for educational purposes should be encouraged.
-
Good morning.

We got a little bit of rain this morning. Very strange. We'll take it, though!

But is that the case, that a weighted blanket will help with anxiety?

This IS a question that others on another chat area have wondered about, and I'm wondering whether - for Ask BK Day - anyone here has thoughts on this:
This number on Colbert
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnrYSE6PQsk
was Audra McDonald performing "Some People" - with just the spoken line for Papa thrown in by the conductor.
But before the number and after the number, Colbert clearly calls it a performance by "Audra McDonald and the Broadway company of GYPSY". Is there a business reason for describing who's performing the number that way? (Maybe how much people are paid, or anything like that?)
-
I figured it was the GYPSY musicians that were referred to as "the company."
-
Substack.

Substack.
Substack abuse is becoming a 2020s problem with some online people.
-
But is that the case, that a weighted blanket will help with anxiety?
I do not know from personal experience.

What the fat hell is a substack? I know what a smokestack is. Does thas help?

Just reading the first paragraph gave me headache.
-
I don't know from substacks except what was in the notes today.
-
Saturday night is the night of George Clooney's play on CNN and of course the Tony Awards on Sunday night.
-
Jrand, have you ever thought of doing a version of your play especially for online video? Are there any actor rules that would stop you from doing that?
-
I'm up, I'm up - almost eight hours of sleep.
-
Link has been sent to all who asked for it - most via e-mail and elmore via PM here.
-
Please remember - it's not a professional video - they do this for archival purposes and, for me, it's a record of the staging. But you'll get the idea, hopefully. Looking forward to thoughts.

Freddie, I don't think leaving the site open on desktops means anything to the stats.

Lordy! After kitty cleanup, I took a bath, got dressed and made the bed. Then, at 10:30, I lay down wth Stella and dozed for three hours, Is it the humidity? It's humid outside and the temperature is heading into the 80s today.

I’d wager most of those views and visitors are indeed bots.
-
Those numbers make no sense. To give you an example, we recently did a readers survey. We got very little response, which is normal, then one day the responses shot up. These responses involved answering questions on a survey. We were all debating what could have caused this. Maybe it was an Amazon gift card we offered. This and that. Boss, who is tech savvy, investigated: all bots.
-
But why bots? What IS the point?
-
This site is a well-maintained and mostly closed affair. But a lot are not. Bots are programmed to go to sites like this, and gather information. They can’t post here, they’d be easily identified if they tried to spam here, so we get a conflagration of them that aren’t really able to do anything, but if someone was to post useful personal info (and not our usual quips, discussions and merriment) they could perhaps do something with that. I think HHW is a bit of a dead end for them, knock on wood.
-
Made it to Oakland. For the first time ever, I think, the gate I arrived at is the gate I leave from.

Got the link. Will watch later hopefully.
-
I don’t know from bots. But Botticelli …!
-

Probably all out just phishing for phinancial inphormation. ;)

If bots, yeah, there's no real information they can get here - they can't see profiles, only posts and they can't respond without my approving them - we do get bots trying to join, but I never approve them. We're pretty safe here, although I have asked our host to make the site secure, just to have that extra protection.

Ran out of Diet Coke so ordered some via Instacart - no delivery fee and ten bucks off the order.

I saw there's a Pizza Hut not all that far away on 8th Avenue, and rediscovered that I like it a lot about a week or two ago. Skip tried it tonight, and he enjoyed it too.
It's good to have another go-to place for fast food.
And they have pretty thorough calorie counts online, which can be very helpful, when in a calorie counting frame of mind.

I was surprised by how emotional the show became in the second act. That aspect really snuck up on me. An extra treat from a show that I was enjoying so much already.

I think the emotion is due to the brilliance of Sydney, really. The first time I blocked the short scene leading into I Like Him and then the two moves during the song, when we ran it and she sang that for the first time, we ALL got teary-eyed.

I can't get over the number of bots asking to join our little class facebook page.

We have an advantage though because we know all the names of our classmates.
-
In the scheme of things, only a few bots have tried to join. I always e-mail them and tell them to hit reply so we KNOW they're not a bot and then to tell me how they found us. No response ever comes unless it's a legit person.

DR Freddie, what do you like to get at Pizza Hut?

We had a Pizza Hut near us in Pennsylvania that was a favorite place to eat.

I'm guessing the uptick in bots may be coming from AI vendors. If ChatGPT and its ilk start getting better at musical theater discussions, we'll know why.

I just made my appointment for a wellness checkup in September. So I have three months to get myself back on track.
Good luck!
-
DR Freddie, what do you like to get at Pizza Hut?
So far, it's mostly been the personal pan pizza, with Italian sausage. I've also tried the cheese sticks and the pasta chicken Alfredo, and both have been very good.
Tonight, Skip had the personal pan pizza with black olives, and half of the pizza was filling enough for him, so he'll have the other half for another meal.
-
We've gotten delivery and it always gets here hot.
-

You'd share a full pizza or the personal pan pizza?
-
I just made my appointment for a wellness checkup in September. So I have three months to get myself back on track.
Lauraa, do you take lab tests before your checkup or after your checkup?
-
Today was totally unremarkable in almost ALL respects.
Even lunch was lackluster as I was expecting pork chops, the normal Wednesday fare at (Don't-Be-A-Square-Eat-At) The Triangle. Instead, Monday's leftover beef liver and yesterday's roast of beast. Happily, they always have fried chicken, so I got two pieces of that, some smashed taters and some green beans. That, plus a large glass of iced unsweetened tea, was the highlight of my day.
I am revisiting, on Amazon Prime, the TV series "Haven" which is still rather good...at least in its first season. It lasted five seasons on the SyFy (aka SciFi) Channel. I remember watching them all way back when, but the last seasons seemed to strain for consistency in story lines.
Yesterday, I indulged in the 1980 adaptation of "Why Didn't They Ask Evans?", an Agatha Christie whodunnit. I have seen the 2009 Julia McKenzie one in which they inserted Miss Marple into a non-Marple story. Decent cast, but a bit slim on building up any sense of mystery or entertainment.
And then there is the most excellent Hugh Laurie three-part adaptation from 2022 starring Will Poulter and Lucy Boynton. It's imaginative and fun and establishes mystery better than other adaptations.
So the 1980 version was recommended to me as most faithful to the book, but I must confess that although I love Francesca Annis, who starred, the entire thing was simply too upper-crust British frou-frou for me...every line delivered as if it were in a drawing room and intended to impress anyone in "the colonies" on how British is meant to be spoken. It was a disappointing experience, I must say.
-
I do the lab tests before my appointment. I'd rather be scolded in person rather than hearing from the medical assistant. You can't ask them any questions.
-
FWIW, anyone interested in obtaining the upcoming 4K blu ray of "High Society" from Warner Archives, the title has finally made an appearance on Amazon where it can be pre-ordered. No estimated deliver date is listed. It is already one month behind its first announced date, but I have waited for so long for this to come out that another month (or more?) won't matter much.
-
Ron P., I always enjoy your repors from (Don't-Be-A-Square-Eat-At) The Triangle.

Tonight was the year-end church choir party. It was a potluck.
-
One of the dishes brought was called "Big Mac Casserole," and it did, in fact, have all the flavors of a Big Mac in a 9x13 pan.

There was no tomato aspic, however.

Or should I say, "tomato ASSpic."

Just a few more.

Well, one more.

Didn't get a chance to watch Drat! tonight.

Perhaps I shall watch it in the middle of the night, if, as usual, I find myself not being able to sleep.

I am back from the pie diner, where - sadly - no one offered me any pie.

I knew I didn't have time today to watch DRAT! all the way through, so I indulged in a few minutes of skipping around and sampling bits here and there. It looks and sounds wonderful, and what everyone is saying about Sydney is absolutely in evidence throughout. I'll be watching the whole thing tomorrow, uninterrupted.
-
I am back from the pie diner, where - sadly - no one offered me any pie.
That’s a crime!

Another fantastic review, DR MichaelG. Love the photos, too.
I never think about it normally, but I'd like having something like that to be involved in now and then. Just sharing rehearsal piano duties would be great. I'll have to keep it in mind.
-
I am back from the pie diner, where - sadly - no one offered me any pie.

It really is. Watching the show on video, even on a large screen at the movie theeder, didn't do that for me. But a wonderful production like this one, in the flesh, absolutely had me craving it, and had me really missing the House of Pies in L.A. I need to bring some pie back into my life. I mean, at more times than just, say, Thanksgiving.
-
Finished with my viewing - a stinker from just a few weeks ago. One does wonder if people actually read the scripts they green light.

Congrats to DR CHAS SMITH on his new millstone.

Congrats to DR MICHAEL G on another fine review.

I am planning to watch DTC tomorrow.

We are so lucky in the chorus to be able to do these incredible operas as volunteers with such a stellar professional cast, orchestra, and crew. We usually have 2 or 3 different rehearsal pianists per run.

Michael, I've wanted to ask...are your leads professionals that are brought in just for individual shows, or are they local people who are just really good?

I may have to take long break from Popeye's.
I still haven't had time to try their new wraps, yet. Hopefully, soon. And McDonald's has announce that they're permanently bringing back their chicken wraps. :)
