Well, you've read the notes, the notes just got on with it, and now it is time for you to post until the just getting on with it cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CONVIVIAL!
-
Wasn't Convivial Vance on I Love Lucy?
-
How many here actually watched I Love Lucy when it first aired?

Raise your hands.

George, interesting story in last night's posts on tracking down that movie for the library!
And thanks also for posting that link to "Into the Fire" from Scarlet Pimpernel! Most enjoyable seeing Douglas Sills performing the song in 2020 and Christine Andreas' opening reminiscences about the song in the original show - and of course that BK's own Robert Yacko was in it is a plus, including his own fun spoken contributions during the video's closing credits!
-
Regarding the TOD, is Chik-Fil-A considered high end as far as fast food goes?
If so, maybe Jersey Mike's is too - and I like Jersey Mike's a lot. I've really enjoyed their Philly Cheesesteak and their Roast Beef sandwich.
Chipotle also seems high end, and very fresh ingredients, and almost always quite good.
-
From BK's notes: "Not enough sauce, way too much dough and the pepperoni was kind of skanky."
It occurs to me that Skanky Pepperoni can be sung to the tune of Fascinating Rhythm, if they ever need a jingle that tries to sell the Skanky Pepperoni.
-
Good morning.
-
I think the doorbell sensor woke me up. I didn't hear it, but I had a notification that there was movement at the front door a minute before I checked the phone. (I was looking at the clock to see what time it was.) Must have been an insect or something crawling.
-
TOD: Chipotle.
-
Are we still boycotting Chik Filet?
-
I am.
-
Good morning, all!

I slept solidly, with Stella next to me, from 9:0-3:30, when it was time for a bathroom break. At that point Thatch moved in, and I spent over an hour trying to get back to sleep. When I finally slept, I had a very strange dream, which I'll describe shortly, which was ended by the alarm. I was so groggy, I lay down again with Annabelle and Thatch and dozed for 45 minutes.
-
When I moved to New York, my best friend at thew Drama Book Shop was a young composer and former paramour of Mr Steve Sondheim named Thom Heinrichs. He was living in Queens in a huge apartment he shared with his boyfriend David and two young actors and I lived with them, sleeping on a sleeping bag under a grand piano, for several weeks in November until I could move into my first apartment on West 94th Street. I had spent June-December 1979 crashing at various friends' places. Around 1982, Thom met a young actor, Ken Bryan, in the cast of the Broadway production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, and, after Ken was cast in the dreadful Galt McDermott The Human Comedy. When that folded, they moved to Los Angeles, Ken was diagnosed with AIDS and died, and Thom lived for a few more years as his health deteriorated and he went blind before the plague mercifully killed him. I occasionally received letters from him, which I answered, and one day they finally stopped. For years I wondered what had become of my friend. Computer searches pulled up a few remnants of his AIDS activism and little else.
All of this is prelude to last night's dream.
-
I do not remember much of the dream now except that I was wandering about NYC, and I was on a subway at one point. I ran into Thom and David - I think - or maybe they were with me. I remember saying to David, Where are you these days? I've looked and looked for you for years. After Thom and David parted ways, I never heard from David again; I've always wondered what happened to him. My last memory of seeing him was in the Drama Book Shop one day. He had spent the weekend on Fire Island without Thom, and I thought, this relationship isn't going to last. Mt last memory of seeing Thom was in late 1984 or early 1985. I was then working for Classic Books, and he stopped in to tell me goodbye. He and Ken were moving to LA.

I've mentioned that there's a HUGE Broadway-aimed musical called OTHER WORLD, which has the same plot framework as THE LAST STARFIGHTER, a video game player being swept into the real-life game. OTHER WORLD is written by the "[title of show]" writers Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen co-writing with a musician named Ann McNamee, who "happens" to be part of a billionaire couple (Roger and Ann McNamee known for prior involvement with Facebook), so their musical has the money to be on Broadway whenever they decide they're ready.
I'm wondering whether if OTHER WORLD becomes a Broadway hit, what this means for pushing for productions of the LAST STARFIGHTER musical, if we'll be able to use an approach for local productions of "while you can't get the rights to OTHER WORLD, do our show" instead, even maybe for large theaters.
-
In November 1980, my first Thanksgiving in this apartment, I had a Than dinner for my friends living in and around NYC and employees of the Drama Book Shop who had no place to go. This photo of the day, taken by my friend Snooky Barton, I believe, popped up oin my Facebook memories. Perhaps this triggered last night's dream.
The people down front: Sally Netzel (DBS), David Panella (DBS), David Dreyfoos (DBS);
Next row: Thom Heinrichs (DBS), Karen Eifert (college(, Me, David Erwin (Thom's boyfriend) Richard Newman (Middletown friend), and a stranger with a moustache;
Behind them Nancy Corporon (conductor of the NYC Gay Communiuty Marching Band), John Schneidler (Middletown friend).
Thom and I had co-written a march for the NYC Gay Community Marching Band; he and David Dreyfoos had written a song for the cabaret act I worked with, "Doggy Walkin' Boy"; Sally Netzel was a playwright, Karen Eifert, a friend since college, was wardrobe mistress on The Best Little whorehouse in Texas; David Dreorked for years with the Westbury Playhouse, I think.
-
STRANGER WITH A MOUSTACHE - sounds like it should be the title of something, maybe a movie? an opera? a painting?
-
Good morning, all.
-
I'm playing for a voice lesson this afternoon and I'll stop at the supermarket for a few items. I think that's the extent of my travels today.
-
I had my usual strange dream, much like the last one combining a few unrelated life segments, but this one wasn't as clear and distinct as that previous one. DR Elmore's has mine beat, for sure. Not to mention, photographic evidence!
-
If I Love Lucy ran from 1951 to 1957, then we probably watched pretty much the whole thing as it first aired. I don't know how early we began watching it, or how regular we were from week to week, but I believe we had our first TV - a Muntz, I think - in 1951.
-
I would have been about two when it began, and I certainly can't swear to what all we were watching then, though I do have a few memory flashes of programs seen in that first place we lived after I was born.
-
I reread DR Elmore's dream. I have those, in which I'm finding people previously lost, or who weren't lost but I'd been separated from them, and I can remember at least one such dream I had back in the late 1970s - so there have probably been more than I'm recalling at this instant. I also kind of lump those dreams in with the ones about people who have been dead for years. All of these are fascinating and compelling.
-
Dreams in general are just endlessly fascinating.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I don’t want to stir.
-
I think I am back on a decent sleep schedule.
-
Two!
-
Re the TOD, I've liked the food at all of those places, but they were always pricey and I rarely frequent them now since prices have skyrocketed. Of course you can say the same about the other guys, too, so choose the poison you can justify. And I do honor the boycotting of Chic-fil-A or however it's written.
-
I never liked Chik-fil-A, way too carby. Shake Shack is extremely overpriced and not filling. Five Guys may be the worst burger I’ve ever eaten; the meat was going bad and the bun was sweet.
-
DR ElMORE nice photo and interesting story.
I am not able to make a copy of the documentary. Sorry. No skills.
-
TOD:
Burger King - not exactly high end, though.
-
My DH is out getting veggie boxes. The two different companies had completely different things .....
-
He's getting one of each. Luckily my wonderful next-door neighbors and a vegan friend of mine will help with it.
-
TOD:
Burger King - not exactly high end, though.
Add cheese to their very tasty original Chicken sandwich, you're over $11, even before having fries with that, let alone a drink. That's still continually surprising.
I'd like to get it without the tax, but that never seems an option.
-
I'm guessing the chicken sandwich wouldn't preserve all that well in a Burger King bundle. It's fabulous when it's hot. It seems to lose something even when it becomes lukewarm.
-
I boycott the chicken place
-
The shake shack shake was nothing special, the burger was foul, I have never been back.
-
The Five Guys near us was lovely but their prices have more than doubled.
I now buy a four burger package and sesame brioche buns from Aldi, get two meals for the two of us and two extra buns for sandwiches for less than the cost of one burger .
-
And they taste better
-
It occurs to me that Skanky Pepperoni can be sung to the tune of Fascinating Rhythm, if they ever need a jingle that tries to sell the Skanky Pepperoni.
;D

I am.

Fresh home made PIES.

We've got a heat index here today as well for today and tomorrow.

Tonight we are going out for Copper River (Alaska) Sockeye Salmon. Fishing is restricted, and this place we know happened to get in 40 filets last night.

Are we still boycotting Chik Filet?
Yes.

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep.

Have already shaved.

TOD: Chipotle is pretty much the only fat food chain I visit.
-
Enter page three.
-
I've never had Chipotle.
-
Bruce, I'm glad the blurb call went well.
-
Only had Chik-fil-A once and didn't think much of it one way or another.
-
Jersey Mike's is good.
-
Thanks for the video clip, DR George!
You're very welcome, Singdaw!

I've only had Shake Shack twice - first time was nothing to write home about - second was a little better.

It's raining here in Tumwater! Very nice!

From DR John:
I think mine is Ring of Fire.
That is my favorite. I asked Keith and he said Walk the Line.
-
DR George your story about the library and the Ring of Fire DVD's was great!
-
I like Chipotle a lot, but haven't had it in ages. A local branch got shut down a few years ago for health code violations.
-
Cool poster too :)
-
An Apple Music subscription is worth it to me, as I can go through the latest issue of Gramophone (which I have just done) and listen to and/or add all of the new classical albums that are intriguing to me.
-
Still thinking about home made PIES.
-
But not enough to actually DO anything about it myself.
-
How many here actually watched I Love Lucy when it first aired?
In 1951? My parents had a tv but I doubt I was up late enough to watch it.
-
Doing laundry and some cleaning.

Boring, but they must be done.

Chipotle is good and they give you a LOT of food!

Once a month I get a lot of coupons from Burger King....so I use them.
-
I loved Lucy!
Bedtime for my brother and I was 8 p.m. But my parents would come a get me up at 9 p.m. so I could watch I Love Lucy.
The first episode I remember seeing "live" was Bonus Bucks when Lucy fell into the starch vat!
-
They couldn't call it Lucky Bucks because LUCY was sponsored by Phillip Morris.
-
It is 89 degrees headed for 92.

Thanks. I missed finding photos to post when we were traveling.

Today we are going to see the tour of Life of Pi.
-
I think it is going to be too deep for me.
-
When the dramas get to be too much for me and I start to get antsy, I have to take off my shoes and cool my feet on the cement floor.
-
So I guess my review will be whether or not I take off my shoes.
-
The local reviewer didn't review this one. But he pretty much hates everything that tours.
-
But I did see online that on the opening night, the special effects failed after 40 minutes. After trying to fix it, they announced that the show was canceled.
-
Well, god damn! According to Chewy, my $70 order of food and treats for the cats was delivered yesterday. The tracking ifo even includes a photo by the UPS man. Only . . . that's not my lobby nor my mailroom. I do not recognize that awful tile. So, where the fat hell is my order? God damn!
-
Oh no! I hope it is found.
-
The real pisser is that I couldn't place this order until Social Security landed on Wednesday. Now, thanks to a UPS moron, I'm completely out of cat food, and I can't do a damned thing about it.
-
Aunt Sassy has a good way of preventing mis-deliveries.
She had a strange doormat printed. The description of it is in every delivery instruction. She hasn't had a mis-delivery since.

Time to open a can of tuna, until Chewy redelivers it.
-
f i v e ! ! ! ! !
-
The doormat thing wouldn't work for Elmore, though.
-
TAO is performing an excerpt of THE HEAD!!! THAT WOULDN'T DIE! at Thurston Community Media on Olympia's west side and it'll be streamed live. :D I guess it's an open house for their TV studio. Here's the YouTube link:
https://youtube.com/live/BmSKDd0Zz4M
I think it goes live around 2:00 pm west coast time. :)
-
I've heard of people posting the address down near the floor, so it would show up in the photo. Also, so the delivery person would see the address before leaving it.
-
Well, God love Chewy! The replacement order is on its way at no charge, but I don't know if I'll see it before Tuesday. If I knew Ann or Jen was going out, I could ask them to pick up food at any market they passed, but they are both flat with some non-Covid bug that's had Ann sick for weeks.
-

That's great, Larry! Good for Chewy!!
-
The doormat thing wouldn't work for Elmore, though.
Nope, the only folk who deliver to my door on the 3rd floor are the Amazon folk. I just wish the USPS, UPS, and Fed Ex hoop-de-do's who first make sure their delivery folk weren't dyslexic or mentrally challenged.
-
And...
~~~Get Well Vibes for Ann and Jen!!~~~
I've heard of people posting the address down near the floor, so it would show up in the photo. Also, so the delivery person would see the address before leaving it.
My address is 202 West 82; we often get mail and packages for 202 West 81, 202 West 83, 202 West 84 and so on. These wrongly delivered items sit on the floor, often for weeks, until someone in our building writes WRONG ADDRESS on the item.
-
My DH buys cat food on Senior Wednesday at the local store. I wonder if Chewy would be cheaper. Probably not.
-
I'm enjoying a cup of coffee, in case this play this afternoon is too much for me.
-
I'm shallow. I like songs and tap dancing when I go to the theater. Well, at least songs.
-
And pirates. I am particularly fond of singing pirates.
Hello, summer.
I'm going to give the pair of keets some fresh water and a new ice cube.
Out of the frying pan of work travel into the fire of holiday travel. In BK’s hamlet called LA for a few hours until we fly to Tahiti en route to Bora Bora. Mrs Rodz’s 50th bday and dream vacation awaits.
-
I liked chik-fil-a a lot but yeah glad there’s not one around me. However I had some at the Charlotte airport the other day and it was terrible.
-
Also tried Jersey Mike’s at the work meeting and it, too, was ghastly.
-
In n Out is the best.
-
Five Guys never did it for me. Shake Shack was good though.
Watching Luther, the Joseph Fiennes version. Not the Stacy Keach version.
Phenomenal.
Last night I ended up watching all three hours of The Marlow Murder Club instead of re-watching Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte. Maybe tonight.
Wasn’t Marlowe Murder Club fun? Loved seeing Rita Tushingham.
-
While I was in the car afterwards, I got a text from the security company for the church. My phone never rang. The alarm had been set off.
-
Dancing was fun today.
-
They called a few minutes later. I told them to call the next person on the list because I could not respond. If the second person on the list doesn't answer, they are supposed to dispatch the police.
-
I eventually got over there. The cleaning company apparently sent over a lone non-English speaking woman tonight and didn't give her the code.
-
The security company did call the second person, who did not answer the unknown number. They did not dispatch the police. At least not while I was there. It had been about an hour after they called before I left the church.
-
I used google translate to tell her to lock herself in the building. And I turned off the alarm in the other building so she wouldn't set it off again.
-
The pastor did come over, too. We talked about the security cameras that didn't record the fellowship building doors. If they had, the pastor could have told me it was the cleaning company.
-
Plumbago
-
That's my report of the day.
-
Yay. The photo was finally small enough to post.
Page turn!
Seven!
Howdy, Rupert!
-
What show did you see, Laura? I forgot.
-
Life of Pi.
-
Thanks for the photo, DR John G.
-
Is there an apricotbago?
-
When you are feeling down, make sure to take the time to smell the dead flowers.
I bought a second-hand time machine next Tuesday.
-
They sure don't make them like they're going to anymore.
47 bombed Iran. Oy.
-
Plumbago
Beautiful!
-
I am glad you liked the show, DR Laura.
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
Rehearsal was fun but one kid did not show. Mom will be getting a very strong note about it and I may pull the kid from the show.
-
And I do believe I just finished writing a book.
-
I was going to put it off until tomorrow, but I just dove in and did it.
-
And we now have a book cover.
-
Rehearsal was fun but one kid did not show. Mom will be getting a very strong note about it and I may pull the kid from the show.
:( Did the kid make any effort to call to let you know?
-
Rehearsal was fun but one kid did not show. Mom will be getting a very strong note about it and I may pull the kid from the show.
That’s, well, just wow!
-
Finished Luther. Now starting The World, the Flesh and the Devil. Harry Belafonte is great in the opening, which is scary.
-
Time for bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
There was some confusion due to one of the other moms asking if the kid could switch times, which she couldn't. but the kid's time was set and we could have squeezed in the other kid. She'll come early on Monday and stay after if needed.
-
Couldn't watch anything - too emotional from finishing the book.
-
Had pad Thai for food - couldn't finish it then, but am eating the rest now. What I really want is an ice cream cone but I'm sure not going out to get it.
-
Pistachio ice cream on its way.
-
And I don't care who knows it.
-
Does who know it?
-
Just wrote two other folks that I would love to blurb the new book.
-
Hoping they'll bite.
-
If not, I may have to bite them!
-
Eaten: a pistachio ice cream cone.
-
Very good.
-
Hopefully, I won't regret it later.
-
Hopefully.
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Not very sporting.
-
Say what?
-
Where the HELL is George?
-
Is he eating a chicken sandwich?
-
Doing the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance)?
-
Where in the HELL is he?
-
Not here, certainly.
-
In fact, other than me, we haven't had any posts in almost two hours.
-
At least we made page eight.
-
But really, where IS George?
-
Is he visiting his local vicar?
-
What gives?
-
Something gives.
-
So?
-
A needle pulling thread.
-
I guess George is not showing up this fine evening.
-
I've shown up.
-
Has anyone ever shown down?
-
Do old people just have to stop eating ice cream? Or is it just me whose stomach cannot seem to deal with it anymore.
-
This is an entire page of ME.
-
Kind of nauseating.
-
Well, what can you do?
-
Nothing to be done, really.
-
Enter page nine.
-
I can't really go to bed before I digest this ice cream.
-
I just can't.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
