Well, you're read the notes, the notes had a big lift, and now it is time for you to post until the big cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LIVELY!
-
Notes lifted. Lofted.
-
The Big Lift is a nice Montgomery Clift movie. Lots of real footage from postwar Berlin.
-
TOD:
Drive Me Crazy
Can’t Buy Me Love
Both have a similar plot, and both had their names changed from their source material to capitalize on famous pop songs. Both have memorable moments and good casting and storytelling.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I did not want to leave my bed this morning. I just wanted to sleep another hour or more, but three hungry cats thought otherwise.
-
DR singdaw, I hlope your mother will be okay in this weather.
-
DR Rodzinski, I'm happy you all arrived safely in Tahiti. Send photos.
-
Last night I was flipping through Amazon Prime movies and landed on The World of Henry Orient, which I haven't seen since its opriginal release over 60 years ago. I remembered loving it then. The two teen girls were wonderful, and I remembered that Angela Lansbury was a total unsympathetic bitch as Val's mother, but in 1964 I had no idea who Tom Bosley, who plays Val's doormat father, was. I thought in 1964 that Bibi Osterwald played the housekeeper, but this time I spent the movie wondering if she and Phyllis Thaxter (Marian's mother) were a lesbian couple. I also loved Paula Prentiss as the object of Henry Orient's (Peter Sellers) seduction, and there are nice bits from other actors.
I was surprised that the character of Kafritz, played by Alicew Playten in the musaical adaptation, only had one short scene, and I was happy to see Philippa Bevans, the original 1956 Mrs Pierce in Mt Fair Lady, and my friend Colin Romoff as the conductor of the Carnegie Hall orchestra. He was a dear man.
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
An unexpected start to the day.
-
The building's fire alarm went off at 4:00am.
-
We quickly dressed and exited, meeting our bleary neighbors outside.
-
The firetrucks arrived.
-
Nothing was found.
-
At 4:30am, we got the "all clear" to return to the building.
-
I tried to go back to sleep.
-
But was unable to.
-
The End.
-
Today is my boss's birthday.
-
We are supposed to wear funny hats to our virtual team meeting.
-
I do not have a funny hat.
-
Or even A hat.
-
Does anyone still wear a hat?
-
It's too early to drink to that.
-
If I were in Boston, I could be bleary in Boston.
-
But I'm not.
-
PAGE TWO
-
In Boston, that is.
-
But I am bleary.
-
Rodzinski, so happy to hear about your travels, and your surprise upgrade to a big suite!
-
Broken leg vibes for the Kritzerland show!
-
singdaw, sorry you had to go through that fire scare during the night!
-
~~~BREAK-A-LEG VIBES~~~ for tonight for the Kritzerland Kompany!
-
TOD: Breaking Away, which I saw quite a few time on its first release - but then I was still a teenager when it first came out in 1979, so that may have had an impact on my enjoying it so much
Grease - which I enjoyed on screen more than I recalled enjoying the stage musical the first time around
-
The Big Lift.
-
The possibilities are almost endless.
-
Does Harold and Maude count for the TOD? I'm not sure how old Harold is supposed to be in the film.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I think we hit 98 yesterday. Today is to be higher. Breaking records here, at least for the month I think.
-
The World of Henry Orient sounds like the perfect thing. I never saw it back in the day, even though I distinctly remember being aware of it playing then. So I didn't see it until I got the Twilight Time Blu-ray. I totally loved it, and have always intended to rewatch it.
-
Last night I let Flix (I think that's the channel) rock me to sleep with the second two Naked Gun movies. They probably showed the first one earlier, but I was late getting to bed. By the end, I was out like a light.
So, yesterday was the volunteer appreciation event at the WCPA.
-
They catered the affair (see what I did there? ;) ) and the food was pretty darned good.
-
They had some beef and mushroom dish that I didn't have (but others who like such things said it was really good), a breaded chicken breast that I also didn't have but I thought it looked good, meatballs in barbecue sauce that were really good, rustic mashed potatoes (quite yummy), a green salad, and several dessert options.
-
They announced a volunteer award, acknowledged long-standing volunteers (I've been volunteering there for 30 years now!), and then they announced the next season!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Your volunteer banquet sounds nice, George.
-
TOD:
The original Hairspray
The World of Henry Orient
The Breakfast Club
Clueless
Show vibes for MR BK & Co.
Congrats to the RODZ family living in the lap of LUXURY.
Does Harold and Maude count for the TOD? I'm not sure how old Harold is supposed to be in the film.
Some on "ATC" chat board might say we could google Harold's age, but I think googling is not good for HHW posting totals!
-
I'm guessing Harold is 19.
Thanks, John. It was. :)
Tuesday morning greetings! I don’t know where the past week went, but here we are.
-
Actually, I DO know. Spent a couple of days on a health issue that’s still not resolved, then put in some hours cashiering at the AAUW garage sale. Then our heat wave began, which means we stay in and I cook more than usual.
-
I am hoping that damned replacement order from Chewy.com shows up today. I have nothing to feed the cats until it shows. Thanks to Ann, she pucked up four cans of Fancy Feast for me on Sunday afternoon, and that covered us till this morning.
-
I just looked up first editions of Nora Johnson's original 1958 novel The World of Henry Orient. Wow! Way out of my price range
-
Vibes that things turn out OK with the health issue.
-
DR Rodzinski, congratulations on your room upgrade. Enjoy your beautiful vacation.
-
From DR Vixmom:
Every woman in my office came in wearing a dress with her hair up in a bun
;D
The building's fire alarm went off at 4:00am.
Groan. I hope it was a false alarm.
Both good movies. I forgot about the wonderful Breaking Away.
Thank you for the kind words, friends. Not trying to Bora boast (too much), but this is like if you were minding your own business and an airline said, excuse me, we’d like to upgrade your flight. And you go, “ooh, first class?” And they go, no, we have your own private plane waiting for you. It’s bonkers.
-
My guess what happened? We wanted the same place we had a couple years ago with pool. But that was not possible because whole section of this place is under renovation. Maybe because of the renovation, it seems a little quiet here for high season. But when we arrived they didn’t have pool suites and since we are repeat customers, they said, what the hell? Give the big empty place to the Indiana hillbilly with the lovely wife and kids.
-
The kids mostly see it as a better Hide and Seek venue than our past hotel rooms.
-
Maybe not quite teens, but there’s a really fun movie made by a teenager. Don Coscarelli, who would later make the Phantasm film series, won a contest from I think Fox, to shoot his own script. The resulting Kenny and Company is an episodic look at a few days in the lives of some SoCal suburban kids prepping for Halloween, 1976.
-
Very interesting. It's been years since I've seen the Phantasm films, but I'd enjoy seeing that.
Vibes to the Ginny household.
It sucks getting old.
-
I had coffee with our former minister's wife. They retired a few years ago. We discussed aging problems, among other things.
-
Thank you for all the health vibes. I didn’t mean to cause alarm. This is probably not life threatening, just an annoyance.
-
OMG! UPS just delivered the Chewy replacement order to my door and set it on my floor. Stella has claimed the empty carton.
-
DR Ginny, whatever this health concern is, I hope it's nothing serious.
-
Oh, that's great, Elmore! I'm so glad they did that.
The water for our building was shut off at 9:00 this morning. It should have been turned back on by 2:00. Now we are told it will be at least another hour before they are done with the work that required the water to be shut off.
Rodzinski, how far is the drop from the pool in to the ocean?
First there’s a kind of retention ledge that the pool water goes into. That ledge is maybe 10 feet above the sea. Could jump from there into the sea, but there’s steps down to a dock and I jump in from there.
-
Thanks. In the photo it appears to be on the edge of the ocean which I figured was highly unlikely or safe.
