Well, you've read the notes, the notes were against whatever it is, and now it is time for you to post until the whatever it is cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: LAUDATORY!
-
Notes imbibed. Jibed.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Surprisingly, I had five hours of good sleep, 8:30-1:30. After that, it was nodding, dozing, and cuddling with Thatch. The last hour was difficult because the pinched nerve took over and my keft hand went painfully numb; ut only ended when I sat up. Annabelle abandoned me for her summer nights in her mountain chalet in the bookcases. Stella, whose heavy coat must not be pleasant in the summer, prefers to sleep on the wooden floor.
-
This is an Amazon Fresh day, so the cats and I now wait for a delivery. I hope it arrives closer to 6:30 rather than 8:00,
-
This morning I am hopefully doing the laundry, depending on how how I can get to the basement. I also need to call Access-a-Ride for a Monday appointment. I'm hoping Monday is not another Con Edison close-off-and-tear-up-the-street day; I've got to get out and start moving again.
-
I'm still seething over the six Supreme Court justices; between them and Pam Bondi, Rule of Law is tragically becoming a myth. Every day I feel more like Mme deFarge, sitting under the guillotine and watching the GOP administration heads roll.
-
DR singdaw, good noews about your new toilets. Don't it make your brown eyes blue?
-
Amazon Fresh arrived shortly after 7:00, and it took me 15-20 minutes to unpack and put everything away.
-
TOD: I'm pretty sure I first saw the first Planet of the Apes movie on TV with commercials. I caught up with it on the large screen IIRC at a movie revival house in Cambridge MA in the very early 1980s, and I certainly appreciated it more, when I was older and with an audience (and the big screen must have helped)
-
Planet of the Apes....saw them all.
The first one I saw at the Westlake Drive In......the line of cars to get in was a mile long and it took us awhile to find a parking space.
There were four of us and we all loved it. I haven't seen the first one in awhile, but I think I have a DVD set of a few of them....I shall have to investigate.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
I don't know from Planet of the Apes.
-
Good morning, all.

I saw the Planet of the Apes movies on TV as a kid. Enjoyed them thoroughly. Never saw one in the theater. Saw one of the reboots. Was bored.

Good morning, all.

I am beat. And I've got a lot to get done today, not least of which is playing straight through my Evita book, and then loading everything into the car for tomorrow. Lots of other stuff, too, though.
-
Chas, and other EVITA followers, did you see that even the New York Times is covering the London EVITA playing "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" to the (non-paying) crowds in the street outside the theater?
"REPORTER’S NOTEBOOK
The West End’s Hottest Seats: The Piles of Trash Outside ‘Evita’

TOD
Planet of the Apes opened near the end of my first year at school, and for whatever reason, I didn't go to see it then. I flew back home to Fort Lauderdale for at least part of that summer, and finally decided to join the partay. I don't know if it wasn't still playing in the theeders then, but I went to see it at a drive-in. Totally enjoyed it, and I think it's amazing that I hadn't even known about the surprise ending beforehand. That sure couldn't happen nowadays.
That was it for me, though, I didn't keep up with it and I never saw the four followup films until the age of home video. I think it wasn't until I had the set on DVDs that I finally binged on them. Had a great time doing it, even though they weren't worthy of the first. But, still fun. I also recall liking the documentary about all of them that I believe was one of those good ones from Fox Movie Channel. I forget what those were called, but I think this one was hosted by Roddy McDowall.
-
Yes, I'm aware of the London Evita goings-on and have been amused by the whole circus.
-
The laundry is now in the dryers.
-
And I got a new blurb for the book from Liz Callaway!
A love story for the ages—whimsical, touching, and delightfully theatrical. Starring two talking cats and a Broadway orchestrator who found family in the most unexpected way. Perfect for musical theatre lovers and cat enthusiasts alike, with charming illustrations by Jeremy Clayton.
-
I'm pretty sure the regulars here on HHW have seen me link these over the years, in whole or in sections (although any repeat clicks would be appreciated). Hoping some of the seemingly hundreds of "non-bot" Guests will give one or more of these a try.

Starting to look back on the first quarter century on our YouTube parody timeline,
Full disclosure: I'm gearing up for promoting my upcoming parody lyric book (6th in my 21st Century Oldies series)
21st Century Oldies, The First Quarter Century: What a One-Percent World!
21st century events sung to the oldies
Please share the links if you know anyone who might be interested.
These were some "long form" (7 to 10 minutes) parody snapshot mini-musicals we did on what we (these from our theater-oriented viewpoint) saw as major socially resonant events 2001-2025: the first time even Sondheim went premium (in 2009-2010), Broadway closing and the 2020 Quarantine, the 2008 economic crisis.
A LITTLE SITE MUSIC, or EVERY DAY A LITTLE NET - 10-minute mini-movie, the first time Sondheim on Broadway went premium, as the ladies of A Little Night Music (Charlotte, Anne, Madame Armfeldt, Desiree, Petra and Fredrika) dealt with premium tickets to the starry 2009 revival of their show -
Vocals: Jan Horvath

WHEN I'M STUCK AT HOME, the 2020 Quarantine Through the Eyes of a Performer - 7-minute mini-movie, as a performer deals with theater closings by making masks (Make 'Em Masks) and then imagining socially distant roles in parodies of Rose in Gypsy (Together Wherever We Go), Joanne in Company (The Little Things You Do Together), Bianca/Lois Lane in Kiss Me Kate (Always True to You In My Fashion) and staying at "Home" with Dorothy (and Emily's cat as Toto) -
Feat. MJ (Emily) McAleesejergins

THE LEHMAN EULOGY, AN AIG BAILOUT PARODY MEDLEY (2008 economic crisis) - 8-minute parody-jukebox musical, through parodies of Top Ten classics from the Helen Reddy songbook, Delta Dawn, I Am Woman, Angie Baby, You and Me Against the World, Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady -
Vocals: Georga Osborne & Shauna Hicks

DR Singdaw, congratulations on finally getting your new toilets installed.
-
Oh darn, sorry that painting and tile work will have to follow.
-
DR John, I'm glad your visit to the city was productive.
-
From DR John:
Starting the new Taylor Jenkins Reid book, Atmosphere. A character is named John Griffin. Odd.
LOL. I hope you like the character.
-
From John:
It was the first novel ever written. It’s more than 1,000 years old. The woman who wrote it had no form to follow. What she created is a marvel. And occasionally frustrating. And brilliant. And exhausting.
It sounds very interesting. If my eyes were better I would tackle it.
-
Bruce, vibes you begin to feel better today.

I believe that we have seen every Planet of the Apes movie.
-
TOD: I saw the original Planet of the Apes in the theater when I was a kid. I don't remember the audience, I just remember being shocked at the ending. I've had no desire to see any of the sequels.
-
BK, if you're taking Flonase, I'd recommend taking regular Claritin, not Claritin-D. Otherwise you're getting a double dose of different decongestants, which may sound like a good thing, but isn't. I'm no doctor of course, but I've been dealing with allergies since the original Planet of the Apes was in theaters.
-
I havew never seen any Planet of the Apes films.
-
And I got a new blurb for the book from Liz Callaway!

Most excellent.

DR ELMORE just revealed himself as a heathen.
-
I made some shrimp mac and cheese because it doesn't take long and heat up the kitchen too much.
-
New Toilets......this could be a song by either Cole Porter or Stephen Sondheim.
-
Nice links DR FREDDIE.
-
Did Mr. Stephen Sondheim ever express his opinion of Mr. Cole Porter?
I don't remember reading it if he did.
-
Cole is of course from and buried in PEE-ru Indiana.....with a most unusual headstone.

-
I'm up, I'm up - ten hours of sleep and I suspect a few more during the day and evening.
-
Wonderful blurb from Liz.
-
I'm in the guck phase. This definitely wasn't allergies. I will lay off the Flonase until this is done.
-
I'll finish up proofer one and move on to proofer two. Have to not talk today - the cough is irritating.
-
DR ELMORE just revealed himself as a heathen.
I did? What did I do? I've always preferred t think of myself as pagan.
-
I made some shrimp mac and cheese because it doesn't take long and heat up the kitchen too much.
That sounds good!

I have this memory that he had dinner with Cole Porter and other folk (Merman, maybe?) at Porter's home during the creation of GYPSY.

Nice links DR FREDDIE.
Thanks, Jrand!

We have been in line outside for over an hour. We're hoping there's at least one kitten left.
-
Did Mr. Stephen Sondheim ever express his opinion of Mr. Cole Porter?
I don't remember reading it if he did.
Page 212 in the first volume of Sondheim's collected lyrics is his long assessment of Cole Porter as a lyricist.
-
We have been in line outside for over an hour. We're hoping there's at least one kitten left.
Did you get there before they opened?
-
Yes. There was already a long line.
-
She got to go inside to browse and came back with a list. I held our place in line outside.
-

What time did you arrive? Oh, I see you arrived at opening time. I figured you would be very early-lol

She got to go inside to browse and came back with a list. I held our place in line outside.
That was nice.
-
Did Mr. Stephen Sondheim ever express his opinion of Mr. Cole Porter?
I don't remember reading it if he did.
In his lyric books, Sondheim had high praise for Porter for always landing the right syllable on the right beat, something he hated about Hart’s and Ira’s lyrics.
-
Or what Elmore said.
-
Three!

I’m exhausted. Taking it easy today.

I head home tomorrow.

Are you referring to the shape/shapes? It seems that many Cole's are buried there.

DR Laura is there more to your story?

I have this memory that he had dinner with Cole Porter and other folk (Merman, maybe?) at Porter's home during the creation of GYPSY.
Sondheim and Jule Styne played the Gypsy score for Porter. He was very weak at the time, but he apparently used a pipe to tap his glass to show his appreciation of the “amigos” line in “Together Wherever We Go.” Really sad and touching story.
-
We are still outside. You have to choose a few from the website, then when you get inside they will let you meet them.9
,
-
Thanks to DR ELMORE and DR JOHN G for the info.
LOL....DR ELMORE I was referring to your NOT seeing the original Planet of the Apes!
LOL
-
Kitty vibes for DR LAURA and Aunt SASSY.
-
Listening to an all-star BBC broadcast of All’s Well That Ends Well with Sian Phillips, Miriam Margolies, Richard Griffiths and Simon Russell Beale. It’s still a problematic play, but the cast helps.
-
About kittens?
Yes :)
-
It is 90 degrees here.....Too Darn Hot as Cole would say.

Mr Adam for his Madam is NOT!

Interesting method.
-
Kitty vibes for DR LAURA and Aunt SASSY.
DITTO!
-
Thanks for the page reference in the Sondheim book, Larry!
This seemed curious is his discussion of Cole Porter.
He quotes this lyric
While tearing off
A game of golf,
I may
Make a play
For the caddy,
But if I do,
I don't follow through,
'Cause my heart belongs to Daddy.
Sondheim then refers to those as "eight tightly rhymed lines"
Was Sondheim of the school where "off and "golf" are close enough to be a proper rhyme?
-
It's 104 here.
-
DR Laura I hope you aren't melting from the heat.
-
DR Laura I hope you aren't melting from the heat.
I was have enough trouble with half an avenue block at 82 degrees here. :)
-
The weather said 64% humidity, but it felt like much more humidity than that.

We are almost to the door.

Amazing!
-
The weather said 64% humidity, but it felt like much more humidity than that.
I have more trouble with a humid heat than a dry one, though with the high temps Arizona is having I would rather deal with 82 degrees and humid.
-
We are almost to the door.
Yay.
-
Leaving Bora Bora today for a few days in plain ol’ Tahiti.
-
I’m excited, actually, to see a different place.

Saw all the original Apes movies on TV. None of the modern ones.

Leaving Bora Bora today for a few days in plain ol’ Tahiti.
I hope your hotel has a view of beautiful Moʻorea.

Leaving Bora Bora today for a few days in plain ol’ Tahiti.
That sounds great!

We are inside. We are number 34. She could name 5 she wants to meet, because some may be adopted before we get to the meeting room.
-
Some of tbe ones she listed are gone already.
-
I'm curious, since I have been looking at the cats for adoption, which names she liked.
-
George is still MIA???

Proofer one's fixes are done. Must think about food now.

Today was the Hortman's funeral in Minnesota. Yesterday they lay in state at the state Capitol. There was a dog honor guard.
-
I don't know from Planet of the Apes.
I am in good company with DR elmore3003 as a heathen.
-
And, like him, I did laundry today.
-
Had to get everything in order for the DH, who embarks tomorrow for a conference in Washington DC.
-
Greaseball looks kinda like Joshie.
He is cute, however, you might not want to go there.
-
I'm sorry there isn't a Calico for you.
-
Bexley is cute.
-
He is nervous about flying into Reagan, where there have been issues. Also, the conference is for Temple musicians, so there are security issues as well. The hotel is just blocks from where the shooting happened last month.
-
Of course if the ones left don't call out to her there is always tomorrow to find a kitten.

I went downtown to help my sister (she's on the board of the Olympia chapter of PFLAG) to help set up their tent/booth, and to help out for a few hours.

Keith got Wordle in three.
Congrats to Keith!

I got downtown at about 8:15 am, and they already had everything set up, but I was planning on staying anyway, so I did. :)
-
I didn't really do much, just be an extra body if needed, but it was a very nice day (warm, but not too hot) and we had a steady crown of people stopping by the entire time I was there.

Lot of cat activity going on in this jernt today.

Tomorrow's a Sunday. But I have a cable guy (yes, again) showing up sometime between 8 and 10 am (I think he only needs to replace one of the boxes, but we'll see). Then I'll be getting my ASS out of here for a probing of the sitz, a potluck meal of some sort, and possibly an evening rehearsal. They haven't yet decided if they want any of the band there for that. So again, we'll see. Oh yes, we shall see.

There'll be a lot of seeing going on tomorrow, that's for sure.

I remember in the early 2000-aughts (that's the correct term, right? ;) ), there was a reissue of the original movies and the cover art gave away the BIG reveal from the end of the movie:

We had a nice time trying a new, to us, restaurant with friends. We all agree it was delicous and plan to return.
-
Sorry to have been E&T
-
I have not caught up
-
In February 1976 I went to a square dance with my then BF Rich, the dance held at the Presbytetian church in my town.
-
While there we were invited to tour the "coffee house" in the basement, a group for young adults 18 and up that met on Sunday evenings.
-
Within weeks we were regulars.
-
There we met Pam and Frank
-
And soon we were all fast friends.
-
Nice kitty!
-
My BF left after a couple of years for Missouri, from whence he ne'er returned but I stayed on and long after we young adults had all paired off and started marrying, having kids, divorcing , remarrying...we all stayed friends
-
In 1985 I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar / restaurant on the shores of the Great South Bay and working in real estate.
-
Then hurricane Gloria came and my real estate listing is went off thd market and the bar fell in the Bay
-
And Pam decided tge one thing she really really needed for her 3 room apartment was a cleaner
-
So 3 times a week I was there and there was always leftovers in the fridge that needed to be disposed of.
-
So I ate and paid my rent while I tried to get back on my feet
-
One day while I was cleaning the answering g machine went off
-
A guy left a message about a D&D game that was being g scheduled

I was intrigued by his voice and left a message on her table when just left
-
I'm about fifty pages into proofer two's stuff. I won't attempt too much more this evening - maybe just a bit - but do the rest tomorrow.
-
I plopped down on the bed at five. Just got up.
-
Who is the guy with the English accent? Why don't I know him?

Pam brought me to the D&D game.
-
And to the next couple.

From John:
It was the first novel ever written. It’s more than 1,000 years old. The woman who wrote it had no form to follow. What she created is a marvel. And occasionally frustrating. And brilliant. And exhausting.
It sounds very interesting. If my eyes were better I would tackle it.
I vaguely remember reading something about "the first novel ever written," and it being written by a woman, but I didn't remember anything else. :)
-
Then the guy asked me on a date, except before the day his jeep broke down and was in the shop.
-
Coincidentally my car picked that same week to fail
-
Pam took us on our first date
-
And our second

She was the matron of honor at our wedding a year later
-
A few months ago she was diagnosed with cancer and started chemo
-
Then she went in for surgery to remove a tumor.
-
All went well.and after a week or so of hospitalization she went home on Monday afternoon.
-
Frank let us know she was happy to be home and resting comfortably.
-
Tuesday morning Frank let us know she had passed in hef sleep during the night.
-
It's been a tremendous shock
-
If it hadn't been for Pam and her kindness and generosity there woukd be no Vixdad in my life, no Vixter or Vixson.
-
Her wake is tomorrow, her funeral on Monday.
-
Sending you all love and hugs.
-
These are great, Freddie! :D
Thank you, George!

-
DR ELMORE just revealed himself as a heathen.
I did? What did I do? I've always preferred t think of myself as pagan.
I used to claim to be a heathen, but a person I know (jokingly) said that no, I'm a heretic. However, looking up the definitions, and searching "heathen vs. heretic," I really am a heathen! ;D
