Well, you've read the notes, the notes lost their mind, and now it is time for you to post until the mindless cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SPLENDOR!

I don't think that this has been mentioned yet, but:
Michael Madsen, actor of ‘Kill Bill’ and ‘Reservoir Dogs’ fame, dead at 67 (https://edition.cnn.com/2025/07/03/entertainment/michael-madsen-death)
:(
-
Guess I'll try for some sleep now.

:( 67 is pretty young.
-
singdaw, when you said last night you think soon you'll be retiring, did you mean stopping work? Or just retiring for the evening?
-
Good morning, all!
-
And belated happy 17th anniversary to our DR singdaw!
-
I cannot believe I slept 7 hours straight befoire a bathroom break at 4:00. After that, I could not get back to sleep. I finally nodded off around 5:45 and got up at 6:15.

After I finished the third or fourth draft of Annabelle & Thatch, which 70+ literary agents (some kindly, some not so kindly) rejected, I began a sequel in 2021. Yesterday, I decided to take another pass at it. Since I'm not getting any work, I might as well employ myself constructively.
-
DR Jeanne, I'm sorry the condo fell through, but I think you were smart to get out while you could.
-
I got an email from Ann yesterday. She and Jen are in Boston with Ann's father, and it was from the local post office that she mailed the galley of A&T to Modern Cat magazine in Vancouver yesterday. The postal charges, with tracking info, came to $21.00, so when she and Jen are back, I owe her $16.00. We were sure $5.00 would cover it.
-
Good morning, all.
-
We had storms during the night. Woke me up.
-
Happy 4th, y’all.
-
There’s flooding in them there hills. Glad I am not traveling there.
-
Must stir.
-
Had weird dreams about helping out at a winery that was owned by a guitarist. Instead of having wine to pour, he wanted to hand out charts for his songs. But he couldn’t organize that. I was frustrated.
-
Independence Day greetings! Quiet holiday weekend for us.
-
I hope DR CHAS SMITH's opening night wasn't stormed out!
-
Happy 4th of July.....I hope we have another one to celebrate next year, but it's cloudy.
-
Good morning.
-
Happy Independence Day!
-
And Happy Birthday, Leonard!

Good morning, friends.

Good morning, all.

Or just retiring for the evening?
That one.
I can't retire at least until I qualify for Medicare, which is still quite a few years off.

PAGE TWO

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LEONARD!!!!
-
That is not actually Leonard.
-
It is Leonard's stunt double.
-
Thank y'all for the opening night wishes, but last night was the final dress rehearsal with the orchestra. The cast has their final one tonight with piano. The band gets the Fourth off. Due to the holiday, this one opens on Saturday. And even though today feels like a Saturday, that's tomorrow. When the sun'll be out.
The rainstorms came, big time. Another deluge. But they could see a clear ending to it, and the rehearsal went on. We had to start almost an hour late, but it worked out fine.
-
Are they takesies backsies on opening night vibes?
-
Is that a thing?
-
Glad it worked out, DR ChasSmith.
-
Storm broke the heat wave, like, immediately., and today so far feels like fall. Nice and sunny and dry, totally comfortable. I wish it could stay like this for the next two days, but that ain't happening. We'll have a very warm or very hot/humid opening weekend. Which is better for audience attendance and enjoyment, anyway.

It was my first time buying fireworks. I wasn't sure I had gotten the right selections. But at the checkout, the cashier high-four'd me.
-
DR Rodzinski, great news that th ears survived the journey.
-
From DR Singdaw:
Thanks for all the wishes! We usually celebrate the date of our first ceremony, in 1990, which was not legal but which both sets of parents attended.
Which is why I was initially confused you were being wished a happy anniversary :)
-
DR John, I have not read Isabel Allende’s Of Love and Shadows. I'm not really a fan of her writing.
-
And belated happy 17th anniversary to our DR singdaw!
From me as well.
-
Welcome home to the DH of DR Singdaw. Under ten minutes to the airport, nice. We live close but not that close.
-
Close as long as traffic is flowing on the bridge between Washington and Oregon.
-
Thanks DR George.

While this is sad I must admit I don't really know who he is though I must have seen him in some of his films.

DR Rodzinski, great news that th ears survived the journey.
Still one leg left as we fly out of LAX here in an hour or so.

Oh no, and yes it is good you aren't traveling there.

Since the colors work, I am wearing my San Antonio Alamo t-shirt today.

I'm trying to show some spirit for our Independence Day.

Years ago, maybe 65 or so, my brother Macbeth and I were throwing firecrackers at each other and one of them blew up in my hand. I was lucky because it could have blown off a foinger or two. Besides throwing a fit and giving us hell, my mother told us, "It's better to be a hot firecracker than to light one."

Very sweet cat picture, Singdaw. My hand-me-down cat Ebonie was also solid black. :)

It is Leonard's stunt double.
STUNT CO...better not quote that movie. HHW is a family site, you know. ;)

What a way to start Page Four! ;D

TOD: In honor of today's title, I listened to "Losing My Mind."

I hope if I ever have the opportunity to sing that song in a talent show, I'll sing it with as much passion as Dame Edna has.

I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep.
-
Was up for fifteen minutes at six.
-
Some of the weirdest dreams ever - nothing in them made a lick of sense.
-
The lead actors in Off the Grid were Josh Duhamel and Greg Kinnear. I've never heard of Josh Duhamel - anyone have? And I haven't seen Kinnear in anything in years - even when he was on E I couldn't stand his smug "I'm so droll" shtick.
-
I don't hear any fireworks yet.
-
I don't feel like eating anything at this point. I could make Wacky Noodles or bean and cheese burritos - neither sound appetizing to me.
-
Happy anniversary to Singdaw.
-
Happy everything to everyone.
-
No e-mails of interest, just one update.
-
Or maybe they don't anymore.
LOL, I have no clue.

I think Labor Day is a perfect day to give birth.
40 (yikes!) years ago when we were expecting Rob, I was more than a week past my due date when Labor Day rolled around on Sept. 2. My actual LABOR day didn’t occur until the following Saturday, the 7th.

Yes, though I don't know if I could easily match his name to his face.

DR John, I have not read Isabel Allende’s Of Love and Shadows. I'm not really a fan of her writing.

Many do. I've read three of her books, probably all for book discussions, and just wasn't interested in reading any more on my own.

I'm reading about the flooding and the missing girls from Mystic Camp in Texas. I hope they are all safe :(
-
It’s a horror story unfolding here. Don’t know how many people have died. 20 girls are missing. Friends have lost vineyards. The cleanup will be massive.
-
A sad horror story indeed :(

I am watching DESIREE on FXM with Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons - a coupling that works about as well as it did in GUYS & DOLLS.
Also on FXM - THE WAYWARD BUS starring Miss Jayne Mansfield is available. I have not seen it in a long time, I may give it a go tonight or tomorrow.

While this is sad I must admit I don't really know who he is though I must have seen him in some of his films.
I mostly know him from Reservoir Dogs (TAO did a stage adaptation a little more than 10 years ago), and that his sister is actress Virginia Madsen.

I went to overnight camps as a child and I find it hard to imagine camping out in the kind of rain those girls were in. Of course in So. California I don't even remember it raining while I was a camp. I'm sure it did but not enough for it to be memorable.
Reading more about it, I'm reading that cabins were washed away, so maybe they weren't camping out.

Earthquakes, tornadoes, lightening storms, ice storms, all situations I have dealth with. My only experience with flash floods was the LA River, a place I would never be caught in during any kind of weather, and most of all when it was raining. I have been reading about how fast and hard the rain came down causing the flash floods :(

Yes, Josh Duhamel was on a TV show called Las Vegas, interestingly set in a casino in...wait for it...Las Vegas. ;)

It also co-stared James Caan.

There hasn't been any mention of camp counselors missing. I don't understood why they wouldn't be with the girls since it happened during the night.

The waters rose 26 feet in 45 minutes. It rained that hard.
-
Watched a Stephen King horror movie called The Monkey. It was fun in its way. Gruesome, too.

I am now starting The Brutalist. It may take me a few days to get through.

Welcome home DR RODZINSKI & Family.

Howdy, Rupert!

The fireworks here were nice and there seemed to be three areas competing for attention.
Most of it was behind the trees....but I could see most of the three finales.
It is dying out now....but still straggling to an end.

Watched 1.5 films on the flight.
A documentary called Disco’s Revenge, which was a fair summation of the rise and fall of disco. Mostly through the eyes of Nile Rodgers of Chic and some NY club deejays. Plenty to quibble about in terms of what gets discussed and what is barely mentioned. But some nice old footage from early ‘70s disco parties. It made me sad at times.
-
Welcome home to the Rodzinski family!
-
Then the Liza doc which still had an hour to go when we landed though I can’t imagine what was in that hour left to be discussed. Again, many pertinent interviews, and a few random young people who offer nothing. The real MVP, Michael Feinstein did the directors a solid, as he provides the most coherent connective tissue between clips of modern Liza talking. I mean, they seem to have relatively full access to her but Mike numerous times is leaned on to say, “Liza would say…” Lots of fun footage.
-
Thanks! Good to be back! Though I’d stay where I was if I could.
-
Not a bad idea for a song.
It’s great to be back but I’d have stayed where I was if I could…
-
Not getting swept up in The Brutalist. It’s okay but it’s not doing it for me. I think it’s the drug use, which I just find alienating. It’s what kept me from loving The Goldfinch, for example.

Just heard this song on TV
Lainey Wilson - Somewhere Over Laredo (Performance Video)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stc7K1_jH14
From wikipedia:
Wilson co-wrote "Somewhere Over Laredo" with Andy Albert, Trannie Anderson, and Dallas Wilson. Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg also received writing credits as the song interpolates the melody of "Over the Rainbow" ...

I gave him a can of shaving cream to finger paint with. He was doing fine with it, until Grandpa got involved. Those two boys got wild. It was all over the room.
-
We could see some fireworks coming from the direction of the church, so we went over there to be sure no one was in the parking lot setting them off. They were in the driveway between our property and the property next door. So we sat and enjoyed those. Then we drove up to a drug store by the country club and watched the expensive professional show.
-
And we made cookies.
-
Poor Leonard hid most of the afternoon and evening. Well, he was in the front bedroom on his cat tree, where he usually is anyway. Grandson tried so hard and so gently to get Leonard to come out.
-
But he enjoyed his can of tuna when everyone was outside washing the car. And squirting everything outside with water.
-
Just been lazy. Am feeling a bit better today - a couple of milder coughing bouts.
-
Had something for food - what is the question.
-
Ah, grilled cheese and bacon sandwich.
-
Then later, a homemade bean and cheese burrito -- under 1000 calories.
-
Then I watched a movie I'd somehow never seen even though I was sure I had - The Terminal Man starring George Segal. Very interesting movie.
-
Drinking some juice.
-
The noise of the fireworks is very irritating.
-
Why I oughta...
-
Too bad Rodzinski wasn't here longer or that I was feeling all better.
-
That's really about it.
-
Could go for another short movie.
-
Have one to watch - The Burglar, with Dan Duryea and Jayne Mansfield.
-
I’m here now!
-
Oh you meant THERE here!
-
Yeah, I thought about it but between your goop and my son’s ear, it would not have been ideal.
-
We will be that way again ere long.
-
I did find a nice eatery at a boutique hotel nearish LAX.
-
I gave him a can of shaving cream to finger paint with. He was doing fine with it, until Grandpa got involved. Those two boys got wild. It was all over the room.
Tell me you have photos of that!
-
The Terminal Man, yeah, that’s a downer of a movie.
-
Not to be confused with Rupert Holmes’ “Terminal.”
-
From the LP Widescreen, whose reissue CD was reissued by dear BK himself.
-
And a copy of which I won in an HHW trivia contest many years ago.
-
To give you an idea of how long ago, some of the questions involved guessing tracks that would be on the forthcoming 2nd Guy Haines album.

We need a trivia night again!

This has been making the rounds and I'll just say DR LAURA this is probably what I looked like in every talent show I entered....

One of the suggested videos below this (for me) was a complete showing (ripped from a VHS taped copy) of Gypsy, starring the fabulous Karen Morrow! And here's the link:

Very cool.
-
Hiya Chum! is now on YouTube. I can finally fill this empty space in my Ritz Brothers education.
-
I like when the Universal logo was a kind of glass globe with stars twinkling around it. While the words rotate.
-
We need a trivia night again!
I'd still never get them right. ::)
-
Hiya, G!
Hello, R!
-
Hiya Chum! is only one hour long. The Brutalist = roughly 4 Hiya Chums.
-
Jane Frazee of Buck Privates is the female lead. Should be good.
-
Directed by the great Harold Young. Let’s see what else he did…
-
The Scarlet Pimpernel 1934 with Merle Oberon and Leslie Howard. 10 years later he’s directing Hiya Chum! What happened?
-
Gratuitous Post #252!! ;D
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.

I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
Yes, I did.
-
Would I kid?
-
I might bid.
-
Or watch El Cid.
-
Fun fact: Harold Young directed Elizabeth Taylor’s very first film.
-
I did watch that awful Off the Grid.
-
I didn't flip my lid.
-
Or spend a quid.
-
Or have bits of tid.
-
Is it ego or id.
