Well, you've read the notes, the notes had some gunk and hopefully it's the last of it, and now it is time for you to post until the gunky cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VALIANTLY!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
They should call that Follies cover, Bob Fosse's Follies.
-
Notes dethroned. Rethroned.
-
Warning Shot with David Janssen? Good film!
-
They should call that Follies cover, Bob Fosse's Follies.
That's Liz Robertson on the cover, the widow of Alan Jay Lerner, playing Phyllis.
-
I did find that there's a copy of that Follies on eBay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/335943740052), for only approximately $24.95 US (£18.49 GBP) plus $12.28 shipping...a REAL bargain compared to €2000.00! ;)

Jrand, so nice to hear such good news from the theedur last night!
-
BK, the flyer for the Kritzerland show looks terrific!
-
Good morning, all!

After the night before. I slept amazingly well last night, and the cats and I slept in. After a bathroom break around 3:15 - no cat vomit on the floor - Thatch became possessive and insistent that I pet and cuddle with him. When I stopped or fell asleep, he got in my face and let me know he needed attention! Around 5:30 Annabelle came down from her mountain retreat to do the same thing. Trying to sleep and keep two cats happy ain't easy.

Millstone Alert - John G, you're getting close to 102,000 posts - maybe even today or tomorrow?
-
That Follies from France is conducted by my friend David Charles Abell, whom those of us on the Musical Theatre project John McGlinn and The Packard Humanities Institute began in 2001, wanted to take over when McGlinn was sacked.
I saw Graham Bickley in London in 1998 oin a dreadful musical called Maddie, based on a Jack Finney novel and the Mandy Patinkin movie Maxie. If my memory is correct, my friend Martin Connor directed it.

Leonard starts off the night with us -- between us. He usually leaves about an hour later and patrols. If I wake up in the middle of the night, he's usually in the cat bed on the floor. Sometimes he's on the rocking chair in the living room. He's not a cuddler.

I need to head into the kitchen to make some muffins and scones for church this morning out of leftover ingredients from VBS.
-
Good morning, all.

Weird dreams, part of them recurring. I suddenly realized I still had a job with a newspaper in Atlanta and showed up for work. I had no idea what to do and the deadline was that day. Since Superman is such a big hit at the theaters, I was going to make it the cover story. I went to the movie critic I used to work with, and he treated me poorly because he wanted my job and wasn’t pleased to see me back. The building was a weird maze of businesses like a shopping mall. I don’t know why Atlanta since I never lived or worked there.

I have a two-disc set of the Maddie score. Dreadful.

Good morning, all.

I could use a couple of those scones if it's no bother.

Good show last night. Another tonight, and then our second three-day break.

Started a movie called What’s So Bad About Feeling Good? Never heard of it before. Stars George Peppard, Mary Tyler Moore, Dom DeLuise, John McMartin, Susan Saint James, Nathanael Frey and more. Choreography by Michael Bennet. Music by DeVol.

It's Sunday and that means there's a new episode of the Broadway Radio Show -- Louisa May Alcott's classic sings in Jo: The Little Women Musical and Dan Redfeld joins me to take us on the journey of creating this dazzling new musical & its new studio cast recording on Center Stage Records!

It is already 80 degrees headed for 87 degrees - but that isn't 93 degrees.
Our sentiments here, exactly, DR Jrand74.
For now, good days and great evenings, even while this accursed humidity hangs around. But it's SO much better in the 80s than in the 90s.
-
Last night I took my Zoom audio recorder to see how well or how badly I could capture some audio from the show. It's a "pit" recording, so forget about balance - it only hears what I hear - but in places with light accompaniment and a clear solo, such as in "Another Suitcase", it's pretty okay. I probably can't improve on it, but I'll catch another one tonight and/or next week and we'll see what's what.
-
Tonight's a very special one, the ASL signed performance with two signers - the woman we've seen here before, and a man. Someone said she was a theeder person in a previous life and had even been in a production of EVITA, so I'll have to find out more about that.
-
DR Laura I hope the driving lesson went well.

From DR John:
Rory Kinnear is quite wonderful. Such a sad ending for him in real life.
You must mean Rory's father Roy.
-
Yes. Sorry. Roy Kinnear.

I got a half-inch of rain. Other areas nearby got more.

I mentioned the other day I didn’t care for drug use in a lot of novels. I guess it’s not much different from alcohol abuse in works of older generations.
-
The Fitzgeralds would have likely have been drug users if they had been from a future generation.

There were so many things wrong with the production. At one point a date is discovered under the wall paper. It was something like Dec. 5, 1925. Only the date on the set was this: 05/12/25! The show took place in San Francisco, not London.

My sister and her husband bought me a portable air conditioner that I will be trying out soon. First I have to freeze some water in four small containers that lie in the top bin of the contraption.
-
DR RODZINSKI that movie I'll Buy This Town has two Frances Farmer connection.
Lloyd Nolan was one of the featured stars in EXCLUSIVE starring Frances and Fred MacMurray....released on BluRay sometime this month.
And Constance Moore replaced Frances in a supporting role in Take A Letter, Darling when Frances through a fit and refused to wear the costumes or even come in for fittings at Paramount.

Though what we might consider alcohol abuse today may have seemed normal, or not too bad, to them back then.

I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of consecutive sleep.

The cast gave me a $50 Amazon Gift Card so I pre-ordered the Blu Ray of EXCLUSIVE and the Cds of the cast albums of Maybe Happy Ending and Operation Mincemeat.
With Free Shipping (I am not a Prime Member) all three will arrive on Saturday.
-
I planned to be in bed by one, but I got caught up watching the wonderful American Masters show on Jerome Robbins. I've seen it three times now and it's one of the best they've done. Those excerpts are incredible.
-
elmore, thanks for the link - bookmarked.
-
The orchestra on the France Follies is great - the performances and staging are way too weird and the Buddy was, well, I mean who would marry him?
-
Still, 2,000 Euros IS a bargain.
-
Can't tell what's what with how I feel yet - it takes a bit to get the Ny-Quil out of one's system.
-
But I'm hopeful, oh, yes, I'm hopeful.
-
Endlessly.

I pre-ordered food last night - it should be here in about twenty minutes - Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. I didn't get the waffle because it doesn't travel well. Got two breasts and two legs - very reasonable price - along with potato salad and a biscuit. I'll eat one breast and leg when it arrives and save the other for my early evening snack.

We accidentally left our front door unlocked and had a bit of a surprise. Keith called me in my office and said to watch our ring camera. By the time I got to him in his office, which is near the front door, I was laughing my head off.
-
Some strange woman came up from the garage and casually walked right into our place. Fortunately Keith has excellent hearing and got up to investigate before she got very far inside.
-
It turns out she wanted the unit above us and needed to go up another flight of stairs. She was very embarrassed, laughing, and apologizing.
-
Our entertainment for the day ;D

Great news about the new air conditioner!

Happy birthday to vixmom's Mom!
-
Chicken was fantastic - big breast - very full now - but in a couple of hours I'll be ready for the rest :)
-
But are we ready to get to page 4 before 5 pm (Eastern time)?
-
PAGE FOUR!
-
LOL DR JANE.....what a wonderful 21st Century adventure.
-
I am glad MR BK had good food today.
I am still trying to decide what I want to eat.
-
There is some prep before I can use the new apparatus....so we shall see what happens.
-
We have done more cleaning and sorting today. I didn't accopmplish all that much but any progress is good. Emotionally it is easier for me to let go a little at a time.
-
On Friday, as I was getting ready to head out, an older gentleman parked in front of the house and came up to me. It turns out he grew up in this house; his family was the first owners. So I showed him the back yard and the inside of the house, but drew the line at taking photos inside. He remembered the bathroom colors where we've kept the original 1950s tile, and accurately described where some additions had been made by his family and the previous owners.
-
He got lucky to catch me just as I was heading out. I reviewed some of our house history materials and his name does indeed match the people who owned it in the early 1960s. (He really didn't seem like someone who was casing the joint for mischief later.)
-
When I get back to Detroit I do go and check out the house I grew up in, but I've never checked to see if anybody was there, or asked to go in the backyard or inside. But if they were hanging around outside at the time, maybe I would. I imagine he would have made do with just seeing the front exterior if I hadn't have been there.

Still, it was good to be able to confirm who is was.

In high school my sister was showing me which house we had lived in before we moved. The owner pulled up into the driveway and ended up giving us a tour. Since I turned four in the new house, the one I was still living in, they were surprised how much of that house I remembered and where all the rooms room. I even told my sister where my crib was in the bedroom I shared with her and my brother.

Wow, you have some memory! I've checked out the exterior of the house we lived until I was 4, but I remember very little about it except the living room (aided by photos) and the see-saw in the back yard. The day we moved is the first day where I have memories that don't come from photos or home movies.

Very nice DR MICHAELG.
Five of my former abodes are still intact....two have been demolished for one reason or another.
Now and then if one is for rent or for sale I check out the listings and photos online. it is very interesting. And three of them I drive by here in town every few days.

I always said I only had one memory of my grandfather. Once I realized I was two when he died I figured having one memory was rather good. I'm guessing thay is my oldest memory.

I've used that site a lot over the years, too.

The apartment building we live is 5 floors. I always lock the door after I enter, but sometimes the DH does not. And we have had people walk in, living either in the apartment above or below ours and just weren't on the right floor.

Back from dancing and feeling exhausted.

What’s So Bad About Feeling Good? isn’t very good.

But I like the Frank DeVol score.
-
I’ve started the second Careless People book of the year.
-
This one is about the Fitzgeralds and the writing of The Great Gatsby.
-
It is both enjoyable and irritating.
-
Some of the anecdotes are good, but the structure is scattershot.
-
Okay, so What’s So Bad has suddenly become prescient about a pandemic. Everyone is wearing masks or willfully getting the virus.

Looks like preview of what happened five years ago.

Let’s ditch this page.

Okay, so What’s So Bad has suddenly become prescient about a pandemic. Everyone is wearing masks or willfully getting the virus.

Wish I had something to say.

But I do not.

Good evening.

I've run into the folks living in my childhood home. I live two blocks away. They are nice people. They bought from the people I sold Mom's house to. They've been there quite a long time now.
-
Speaking of unlocked doors ...
-
The church cleaning crew has left the doors unlocked three weeks in a row. They set the alarm but don't lock the doors. I told the pastor he'll be getting a call in the middle of the night if someone opens a door and sets the alarm off.
-
Gale Storm alert!
Starting The Underworld Story with Dan Duryea, Herbert Marshall, Howard da Silva, Melville Cooper, Frieda Inescort and Storm.
-
This is a brutally ugly movie. I’m surprised at the cynicism.
-
And I am enjoying it.
-
Brutal film. Excellent acting.
-
The night is drawing to a close.
-
I’m beginning to fade.

But I have seven posts to a new plateau.

So I will blather away.

Page FIVE???
-
I did watch a new movie.
-
A Thriller.
-
Of sorts.
-
Then the galley arrived, so I've been proofing since then. Just a few things so far, most of which has to do with the front matter.
-
How can we still be on this page?
-
It's not right.
-
See?
-
Now, get me off this damn page.
-
I'm not kidding.
-
I suppose I should write some damn notes.
-
Then I'll proof until bedtime.

Nobody here but us chickens.
-
Lonesome chickens.
-
George is off somewhere, probably eating a Monte Cristo sandwich and scalloped potatoes with scallops.
-
Where in tarnation IS everyone?
-
Certainly not here.
-
I'm here.
-
Just cooled down the house.
-
It was HOT.
-
Just filled up the vaporizer and waiting for some steam.
-
Steam heat.
-
What is a Monte Cristo sandwich anyway? What is a Croque Monsieur? Ah, the latter is basically a grilled ham and cheese with Bechamel sauce.
-
I'd probably like that. But what is Bechamel sauce. A smooth, creamy white sauce. I'm going to search for that sandwich. And what is a Monte Cristo?
-
Ham, turkey, and cheese on bread dipped in egg batter and then pan fried, like French toast. I'd probably like that, too.
-
Monte Cristos are yummy. You can Count on that.
-
Croque Monsieurs are also delicious.
-
Both are rather rich.
-
I craved a corn dog yesterday so availed myself of a couple. Now I’m good for a few years.
-
We drove a couple hours to the nearest Carmax to pick up our replacement vehicle for the one that was run off the road last month.

Mrs R was due a visit to her mom, but if I buy groceries in the USA, I’m obligated to go straight through Canada without stopping or they’ll scrutinize my purchases. So she and kids and new car went to see Oma, and me and old car and groceries came home.

I was having a Suzanne Pleshette day. Her interview on YouTube is one of the best.
-
Led me to Bob Newhart Show outtakes.
-
And a Bill Daily interview. Also excellent.
-
I found a jernt in Burbank that does Croque Monsieur so that may be today's food.
-
Page Turned!
-
Well, at least we got to a new page.
-
But not a peep from George.
-
George owes us at least a peep!
-
This jernt also has other really good sounding sandwiches and crepes (not dessert). May have to try a few things.
-
One lousy peep. How hard is it.
-
And remember, peep spelled backwards is peep.
-
Haven't found a single jernt that has a Monte Cristo.
-
I wonder how the howls of the creature were achieved in The Creature Wasn’t Nice.
-
They are rather unique cinematic howls.
-
Been fun revisiting with the youngsters.
-
If you mean the Creature's noises, that's all me with some manipulation.
-
I don't know that I've ever revealed that.
-
Glad they liked it.
