Well, you've read the notes, the notes chronicled the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the chronicled cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GRATITUDE!
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
Driving the DH to the airport this morning. He is off to another music conference, this time in Durham, NC.
-
Very exciting about the imminent arrival on Thursday.
-
:)
-
Good morning, all!
-
I am quite sleepy this morning. I slept well until around 3:00 when I had the feeling I was going to be sick and made a rush for the bathroom. These days, a "rush" is a slow crawl. So, I got to the bathroom, accompanied by nosy Stella and Annabelle, to wait around for 15-20 minutes, decided I was not going to be sick, and went back to bed. It took me forever to get back to sleep, so when the alarm rang at 6:00, I tried to sleep in, but Annabelle and Thatch decided I would not.
-
Yesterday, all three cats were in a frisky mood, playing tag, playing hide and seek in the new Chewy carton, and romping about most of the day. I wrote the new Phantom of the Opera cue, sent the conductor a note saying I was finished, played at the computer, and that was my day.
-
Today, I have few plans.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I dropped my phone in Ping's car on Friday and won't get it back until this afternoon.
-
It's wonderfully strange not to have a phone for three days.
-
I should turn it off more often.
-
The competition itself was also strange.
-
Reba and I danced in the first heat at 7:30 am and the second to the last heat at 11:30 pm.
-
Then Ping and I danced the last heat a few minutes later.
-
During the day, my partner Sheila got very sick, but she continued to dance for a while with her balance being way off. She finally called it quits and eventually her husband came to take her home.
-
My other dances went well.
-
There were several stretches of several hours of not dancing, which was not fun.
-
But during the evening, there was a small area to dance in. That was fun.

Travel vibes to singdaw's DH!

:)
:) Ain't it the truth?
-
My other dances went well.
Good news about those dances!
-
Rodzinski, thanks for the link to the ALICE episode with BK.
BK, your reminiscences in last night's posts were very interesting!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Big day yesterday, and another today. We rehearse this afternoon and give a concert this evening.
And that's it for a while, as far as I know now, and I shall live a "normal" life for a few weeks.
-
I would like to have the patty melt and fries that BK didn't order.

Happy Sunday and Happy August! On this week's Broadway Radio Show, I'm chating with Kate Chisholm about the legacy of composer & lyricist Peter Foley and the release of the album "Out Of Myself: Songs of Peter Foley," a live concert recording featuring a fantastic array of talent from the worlds of theatre and opera performing Peter's beautiful compositions.

Very interesting posts and links yesterday.

I must finish my report for a meeting of the bored at 2 p.m.
The president has not sent the agenda yet....so I don't know if there are any surprises in store for us today.

Peter Foley was a gem, and remains a gem in memories and now on this CD collection.
Peter was a great composer, and also a great pianist and music director and friend; he was music director when I was a student in Stephen Schwartz and Michael Kerker's workshop, the evening when I presented my show to Stephen Sondheim and Stephen Schwartz. Since Peter was a good friend of Sondheim's, Peter knew hours before I did that Sondheim was going to be on my teaching panel and was able to call me in advance to alert me and said "Do you want to know who will be on your panel tonight?"

I feel the subplot of the truckers and the peaches was not satisfactorily resolved.

Could have really had a cool story if the FBI agent turned out to actually be a gangster impersonating an FBI agent. Missed opportunities there.
-
HHW factoid: the FBI agent was played by the guy who was the dean of Eastland School on season one of The Facts of Life. I had just been watching a Partridge Family where BK has a single scene. In that episode, a school psychologist is played by Eastland School matriarch and later Edna’s Edibles shopkeeper Charlotte Rae, who by the way, I saw in the Encores! cast of… 70 Girls 70.
And now you know… the rest of the story.

There's been the GOLDEN GIRLS Live parody show.
Why not an ALICE Live parody show, where you extend the threads of a typical ALICE episode - starting with BK's episode.

-
I would have tried to visit with BK back then, but I didn't know him yet. :)
-
Skip had met BK quite a few years before I did.
-
I believe BK first met Skip at TIME AND AGAIN at the Old Globe in San Diego in 1996.

A whole thing where you show episodes and then remake them by adding a little better plotting.
-
BK already did the show "WHAT IF?"
Maybe he could do "WHY NOT?"
-
Hello all. I read Richard and Me last night after the Festival concert and submitted my Amazon review.
-
Both concerts this weekend were great. I think my favorites so far may be the two Corigliano pieces.
-
One was a suite from The Ghost of Versailles and the other a suite from Altered States.
-
I've been running myself ragged this morning. I took the garbage to the basement, had to geal with getting a heavy Chewy.com carton upstairs. The nice young lady in 1F found me struggling with it and carried it up the elevatpor to my door. Then I sent an e-card announcing the book - the hardcover and possibly audio book should go up tomorrow on Amazon - to my mailing list.
-
After that, I made the bed, vacuumed, mopped up cat vomit, opened the Chewy carton and unpacked three cartons - 24 cans in each - of Fancy Feast. I put the cartons away, and here I am. I need to make another trek to the basement with all that garbage.
-
Tomorrow I'm seeing a new doctor, a nephrologist, to check me out as a potential kidney disease bearer. Oh, joy!
-
Thanks DR Kevin.
-
From DR Rodzinsi:
We took a ferry into Victoria to see our old neighbor who had a stroke. He could only say “yes” and give thumbs up, but he seemed to recognize us.
It doesn't sound like he will be improving. I hope I am wrong, but glad he seemed to recognize you.

Safe travels to your DH.

During the day, my partner Sheila got very sick, but she continued to dance for a while with her balance being way off. She finally called it quits and eventually her husband came to take her home.
I'm sorry. I hope she is feeling better and that you don't come down with whatever she has.

Really nice page turn art!

I'm up, I'm up - kinda sorta - was up at seven-fifteen to have muffin and pill, went back to bed at eight and just got up. Seven hours, I think.

Well, I'm not going to my appointment tomorrow. When I strood up to feed the cats, my legs barely held me abn getting to and from the kitchen was a real ordeal. I need to take it easy tomorrow and give them a rest.
If I were a horse, I would be a can of Alpo.
-
God, do I miss Peter Foley. I recently ran across an email from him and cried like a baby.
-
Thanks for the vibes! The DH is checked into his hotel. One of the guest artists at the conference this week is the British vocal ensemble Voces8.

MichaelG - thanks for doing the review - there are three up currently - is yours the third? Also, it says there are four but I'm not seeing four. Hopefully tomorrow all the versions will be consolidated so the reviews show for all versions. Now, if only George would finish it.

Yes, mine's the 3rd ebook review. I assume the 4th one is from someone who did a star rating but didn't write any text.

We like the show.

I am groaning over the fact our local nazi that we kept out of congress, has just been confirmed as director of the National Counterterrorism Center >:(
-
Needed a movie night. Seeing The Tale of Zatoichi, a Japanese samurai movie, at the Alamo Drafthouse. Should be fun.
-
We're watching the trashy THE HUNTING WIVES - one episode at a time, though. Some of the reviews (and a commentator on CNN) made it sound like the series overall pays off if you stick with it, so I'm very curious about where it must be going to get some of the praise it's gotten.
-

Terrible.
-
John G, sending health vibes for your friend from the dance contest. And hopes that you're safe from having caught anything!
-
Sample online comment for THE HUNTING WIVES - "The Hunting Wives is sleazy, twisty and a hell of a summer binge"
From NBC News - "The salacious new crime show, set in a fictional east Texas town, has struck a chord with both liberals and conservatives. '

I love Two For the Road and My Fair Lady. While I think Wait Until Dark is great it isn't something I would watch over and over again.

I ushered at the theater for Two For the Road and never got tired of watching it.

and the lyric in Anyone Can Whistle saying whistling is "easy"

Back -- from a grueling but ultimately successful student vocal concert. We just don't get enough rehearsal for these. Most of the kids are well worth hearing, but I have started to mark in my music the places where someone goes up on words or jumps a couple of beats in the run-through, because even though they take the correction, I can almost guarantee it's going to happen in the performance.
Of course I was Mr. Perfect, and didn't slop a single note anywhere. Nope, not me. That must have been some other guy.
Anyway ... DONE. :)

One was a suite from The Ghost of Versailles and the other a suite from Altered States.
Fantastic scores, both. In my oh so humble opinion, of course.

Well, this is cool. It was just posted earlier today:
TRIAL BY JURY Gilbert & Sullivan; A MATTER OF MISCONDUCT! Hession & Jenkins - Scottish Opera (https://youtu.be/MamyhJX2ztA)
Scottish Opera's double bill pairs the courtroom comedy, which was the flrst major success for collaboration between the librettist team of William Schwenck Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, alongside a new operetta set at the heart of modern British government by Emma Jenkins and Toby Hession.
-
To continue:
First performed in 1875, Trial by Jury is set around a classic case of broken vows - the defendant having literally left the claimant at the altar. The trial bubbles over with emotion, humour, and downright chaos, leaving the jury divided. How will they decide between the charming yet swindling defendant and the utterly captivating claimant? The second part of the evening, A Matter of Misconduct! sees librettist Emma Jenkins and composer Toby Hession present their daring new operetta set in the press room at Number 9 Downing Street. When a scandal threatens to break about the front runner in a bloody leadership campaign, a lawyer is needed to prevent information from reaching the press. Sylvia Lawless from the firm Lawless, Lawless, Lawless and Crook must find the loopholes in this modern take on unsavoury behaviour. A fun night guaranteed as The Guardian enthused: 'Gilbert & Sulivan's 150-year-old comic opera gets a lively update, while there is plenty of fun to be had at the expense of politicians in Toby Hession's pacy new opera.
-
The movie was fun. And there was a good crowd.
