Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a setup, and now it is time for you to post until the setup cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HOORAY!
-
It needed to do an update - don't know why but it's started and restarted several times and now it's just a black screen, which is said might last a few minutes.
-
I'll take a shower and hopefully it will be back up when I'm done.
-
All back up now
-
Posting from the new computer - this thing is FAST.
-
Word is working and so is Music. Whew!. So, we just have to set up Sirir and Apple AI and that should do it.
-
I am completely smitten with this here new Mac Mini and Apple monitor. I may even buy some apples.
-
The speed of this thing is absolutely astonishing. I think I'm still going to set up my good speakers, just because I'm used to them.
-
The table is clean and spacious now.
-
Smitten, I tell you.
-
I thought Microsoft Office would be a chore to set up - I literally opened a document and it told me to use touch ID to enable it for this computer. I did and voila.
-
Because of the problems elmore had with his Music on the new computer and because there were people who had the same thing happen, I was petrified of that - but it all came over perfectly - all the playlists, everything. I now know how to get rid of the weird second user thing, but I'd rather have the back house fellow here to make sure we do it properly - although it's really just the click of a button. And then we have a choice to make on the drive where the hourly and daily backups go. I think I know what the choice is, but again I want the back house fellow here when I do it.
-
There are a few little new quirky things I have to get used to. If you have a window open, like this here board, and you click on the desktop, it shoves the window all the way off the desktop - easy to get back, however, and instant.
-
I also love the new keyboard with black keys - so much easier for me. Same with the trackpad - and all the settings for both came over. I haven't had to do much of anything. And Chrome, which was horrible on the old computer, is so fast on this one. Smitten, I tell you.
-
I didn't like the default Sequoia screen saver, so I found one I did like and it's lovely and it kind of shifts color depending on the time of day.
-
Also nice is the number of ports - three thunderbolt ports on the Mac Mini and several USB ports on both the Mini and the monitor. Also, I got an adaptor cord for the CD player and it works perfectly, so now it will once again be easy to import CDs. Hoo and Ray. Got the printer icon in the dock - that was easy, too. You just Google this stuff and the answer is right there.
-
Oh, and the camera a mics on this are really good.
-
Well, the alarm is set for eight-thirty, so I suppose I should get some sleep.
-
Congrats, BK! :D

Congratulations, BK!
-
Good morning, all!
-
BK, the new Mac sounds fantastic! Post a photo.
-
I slept very well next to my boy Thatch. Stella has apparently abandoned Annabelle's mountain chalet, so Annabelle has returned to sleeping there. I had two performance dreams, one about Bernstein's Candide, which I always wanted to stage, and the other about being in a performance of The Beggar's Opera, in which I was playing Lockit and I could not remember my lines.
-
I have a lot of trash to cart to the basement, and then I have no idea what fresh hell the day will bring. I do need to call Access-a-Ride and schedule a trip to get my second shingles vaccine.
-
This morning, the paper edition was added to the Amazon page.

DR John G, thanks for the info on The Storyteller's Death. It sounds interesting.

DR John G, thanks for the info on The Storyteller's Death. It sounds interesting.
It was a library recommendation for the whole city to read. I don’t always like their choices, but this one was fun.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
Yes, DR John G. I found the movie amusing.

After all, “mime is money.”

The cameos are a lot of fun.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Congrats to BK on the new computer! It sounds wonderful.
-
I'll be on my way out the door to the dermatologist in a few minutes.
-
Congratulations, BK, on the new arrival.
-
I hear it's fast. 8)
-
I thought you'd like the speed of the new Macs! I think the best way to set up Siri and Apple AI is to turn it all off. AI is automated BSing, and Siri is your computer spying on you. I have a hunch you would find them more annoying than helpful, unless you liked Clippy back in the day.
-
Glad for MR BK that the computer is working well!
-
I am back -- and burning up. Pretty much literally.
I had to see one of the other doctors in the practice this time because they are so busy and my regular guy had to do something elsewhere. Well, this one is a great guy, wonderful personality, etc., and very thorough -- so thorough, in fact, that he just about plastered me with the liquid nitrogen. It's more coverage than I've ever had.
The results will be great, but I had better not be seen by anyone for the next week! :)
-
Good morning, all.
DR ChasSmith, thank you for the beautiful Amazon review!
I will spill a secret: the two children's books for adult readers that inspired my book are Winnie the Pooh and The Wind in the Willows. I wanted A&T to be a 21st century reflection on Kenneth Grahame's amazing book about Mole, Rat, and Mr Toad.
-
E.B. White is in that mix as well.

I'm so glad it's up. I submitted it yesterday, and - unlike when I submitted one for BK's book - it didn't just appear within a couple of hours. Even though I was a verified purchaser on both. They are SO inconsistent and unpredictable.
And I had planned on naming The Wind and the Willows along with those other two, but obviously forgot that one at the last minute!
-
I regret that I didn't mention Jeremy's contribution in my review. I may go back and amend that.
-
:)
-
From DR John:
Such limited tastes. But I know. You and Jane are not alone.
LOL. I've had fresh beets and they were eatable, not that I ever want them again. Canned beets will spread and ruin everything else on a plate of food. At least the soup is contained and easy to avoid.
-
:)
LOL!
-
DR Rodzinski, I looked up the Arizona Biltmore. You should have your children with you.
-
I'm up, I'm up - everything's working fine except the Time Machine backups because that won't work until iCloud finishes syncing everything, which could take a few days.
-
Have I mentioned that this thing is FAST?
-
Or that I'm smitten?

I love the touch ID - never have to type in a password.

-
Amazon is taking pre-orders for the Love Life recording.
Ooo...cool!
-
I'll post photos of the new setup in tomorrow's notes.
-
After listening some more to the internal speakers vs my external AudioEngine - I think I prefer the internal.
-
BK, I noticed some of the Amazon reviewers just did one or two quick sentence reviews. Do those help at all? Or is it better to just give a star rating rather than that?
I've certainly, by jumping around through sections of the book, read enough of the book that I can do that.
-
Not sure what a man, even a gay or bi man, singing Ladies Who Lunch brings to the song. And Alan Cummings’ Shakespearean slow intro verse is way too pretentious. But this is interesting.

This diva song worked for Alan Cumming, I thought.

Regarding HAMILTON hitting the 10-year mark:
If it's OK to self-promote as a so-called "NYTimes commenter," LOL
Lin Manuel Miranda has become as generous with his fellow, lesser known writers as Sondheim had been. He noticed my parody lyrics in the Times comments sections, and publicly tweeted encouragement! To then make it somewhat meta, the Times even reprinted LMM's tweet ["Freddie the NYTimes commenter is a local treasure"] - bottom of this article.
https://archive.nytimes.com/artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2016/06/01/service-advisory-artsbeat-is-finished/index.html
One of the happiest aspects of that was that the printed-out LMM tweet was taped to my parents' fridge in Florida for close to a year, like a good report card or a good review!
-
Amazon is taking pre-orders for the Love Life recording.
Thanks for the heads-up - pre-ordered here!

It’s only 94, but it feels much hotter.

I felt I was melting while water my plants.

Some are looking crispy in the heat.

I hope they can hold out a few more weeks.
-
Page turn!
-
Four!
-
I'm up, I'm up - I guess I got a total of about nine or ten hours of non-consecutive sleep. I'm zonked but hopefully I'll be perky shortly.
-
Cat book has arrived.
-
DR George, yes, you need to get a TB test before going on Humira (or generics like Hyrimoz) and then get one annually. Humira works by suppressing an overactive immune system, so you have to be cautious when you get sick. I find colds and the like hang on longer than they used to. For me it's worth it to control my psoriatic arthritis.
-
I hear BK is smitten.
-
Smitten, I tell you.
-
It's from hunger.
-
My chocolate Twizzlers are supposed to have been delivered, so I will go check that out.

Keith got Wordle in two.

Wow, that was two days in a row.

Which the label says they're made from.

I think Keith is the Wordle King, if there is such a thing.

Does he play Connections also?

Thanks. I definitely don't want any.

He does occasionally but doesn't really like it.

Keith has been playing Spelling Bee and just got "amazing" ;D
-
Does anyone play spelling bee?
-
Escalating always works. Amazon is now fixed.
-
Just ordered food - should be here in twenty minutes.
-
I almost ordered from last night's place - I was going to get the amazing string beans and that cashew chicken - total cost with tip? 47 bucks. No thank you.
-
DR elmore3003, I wonder if these fleece-lined sleeping bags would preserve some of your bed real estate for yourself?
-
BK, checking with you again, are general short reviews useful - or is it better to just give a star rating?

I've been mentioning the LMM tweet in conjunction with trying to get a bit of traction for my new book, which is covering parody lyrics about the first quarter of the century.

I'd announced the book in late June

but since I have no deadline except for any deadline I choose, it seemed better to wait a bit, maybe closer to Labor Day.

We watched an excellent movie last night, The Life of Chuck. Has anyone seen it?

We haven't had HBO for all that long, so we hadn't seen THE GILDED AGE before. We're just catching up with it now.
We're three episodes in, and it seems really enjoyable.

We plan to watch the first episode tonight.

I want to. Reread the Stephen King novella again last week.

Watched/listened to a lot of the Hollywood Bowl version of Jesus Christ Superstar tonight. Most of it is online. Excellent singing. But that score is not a favorite, though much of it is catchy. So is COVID.

I went instead for a salad and gumbo, meats and the dessert buffet.

I had a scoop of peppermint ice cream that I doctored up with whipped cream, nuts and coconut.

And a triple chocolate cookie.

Tonight's film class movie was La balance, a 1982 film starting Nathalie Baye that was a French hit. She's really something.
