Friday. My last midterm exam. Ugh. The teacher says to bring two blue books to write the essays in. The class is only fifty minutes long. How much does he think I'm going to write in fifty minutes? One book per question?
And you know how much I LOVE essay tests.

I just read this morning that Disney is planning on moving THE LION KING out of the New Amsterdam and putting MARY POPPINS in there next year. LION KING would go to the Minskoff.
BIG MISTAKE. My friends who saw MARY POPPINS in London in June were not bowled over by it (they had actually liked CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG more, and we all know what a snore that is), and I don't see a long life for it here despite Disney's imprint.
Why not leave LION KING alone to continue selling out the New Amsterdam for years to come and let POPPINS go to the Minskoff?
No, Matt. As far as I've heard, Sweeney is open-ended. If it sells it will stay open.
It's raining in such a way that an umbrella did no good for me this morning and my pants are permeated with rainwater. Not a good feeling.
Oh, good Lord, Carrot-Stick just pulled out a bagel the size of her head and, of course, it's overflowing with a cream-cheese-like substance that all but guarantees a good hour of lip-smacking before we move on to the two apples she has with her. ::)
"No matter how you shake and dance
The last 3 drops go down your pants"
Oh,wait, that's completely different..... :P

To answer BK's question of last night, there are indeed Popeye's Chicken establishments here in NYC. And I am going to behave myself so that I may treat myself to Popeye's dinner tonight while Punk is at an event.
There is a Popeye's in Harlem on 125th
One on Lexington and 26th or so.
The Times Square one moved off of the square to 46th or so.
And one on the Upper East Side on 3rd Ave, and 88th or so.
Those are just the ones I know about!
Years ago, there was some racial controversy about the lighted Popeye signs in that Popeye's face appeared to be a darker skin color at night in order to attract African-American customers. I remember seeing it and thinking that, while Popeye did look black, no national chain of restaurants would be racist enough to purposely utilize such a ploy.
Oy, was I naive. ::)
On my way out of the The Village this morning...

And before I forget...
On my way out of the The Village this morning, I made note of the following:

...As soon as I get some money in the mail, I shall order...
It is such a rotten day! I've been waiting for a check from Ms Prince as well as my publisher, but once again NADA! Pisses me off; I hate begging employers for what's due to me.
Are any New York DRs interested in seeing with me tonight IN MY LIFE? I hear it is so appalling horrific that it's a must-see.
DR Elmore: I'd love to, but I have a birthday dinner to attend at 7:30. Besides, I'm seeing the debacle on Sunday afternoon. :)
My friend, Ken, said the finale is so bizarre that he felt compelled to take out his cell phone and snap a photograph.
I can't WAIT!
Oh...Larry and theatre-going companion: Be sure to use the restroom before the show. They have apparently cut the intermission (always a bad sign)...
Are you telling us you didn't sleep at your own place last night, oh, slutty one?

Re: Psycho's ending - you have to give that ending context. It is long and one wishes it wouldn't go on quite so long, but in those days there had never been anything like Psycho, and they had no choice but to explain everything blatantly because many audience members were clueless about such things as they are talking about.
Size is a factor- the house set is enormous. I don't know that the Minskoff would fit it.
Also, rumor is that Cameron really wants Mary Poppins in the New Am, he REALLY wants the show to go there. But you didn't hear that from this former Disney employee...
A C, an E-flat, and a G go into a bar. The bartender says: "Sorry, but we don't serve minors." So the E-flat leaves, and the C and the G have an open fifth between them. After a few drinks, the fifth is diminished and the G is out flat. An F comes in and tries to augment the situation, but is not sharp enough.
A D comes into the bar and heads straight for the bathroom saying, "Excuse me. I'll just be a second." Then an A comes into the bar, but the bartender is not convinced that this relative of C is not a minor. Then the bartender notices a B-flat hiding at the end of the bar and exclaims, "Get out now. You're the seventh minor I've found in this bar tonight."
The E-flat, not easily deflated, comes back to the bar the next night in a 3-piece suit with nicely shined shoes. The bartender (who used to have a nice corporate job until his company downsized) says, "You're looking sharp tonight, come on in! This could be a major development." This proves to be the case, as the E-flat takes off the suit, and everything else, and stands there au natural.
Eventually, the C sobers up, and realizes in horror that he's under a rest. The C is brought to trial, is found guilty of contributing to the diminution of a minor, and is sentenced to 10 years of DS without Coda at an upscale correctional facility. On appeal, however, the C is found innocent of any wrongdoing, even accidental, and that all accusations to the contrary are bassless.
The bartender decides, however, that since he's only had tenor so patrons, with the soprano out in the bathroom, and everything has become altoo much treble, he needs a rest, and closes the bar.

Some Popeye's have this genius way of upselling. You buy your stuff, and then a little wheel spins on a video monitor on the cash register, and it might land on an extra side of potatoes or whatnot, and you get the offer to round your purchase price up to x amount, and they'll throw that item in. Hard to resist.
I'm wearing my "Wheres Larry" shirt.
DRJOSE - congratulations on your "dating" situation....someday my prince will come as well. I keep saying. And your "musical" joke was hilarious!
I find that hard to believe from the way you pounced on DRMBarnum!
Dating was sort of the last thing on my mind when I made the move here.
But it is very nice having a new friend.Dorothy Parker says all you need in an apartment is enough room to lay your hat and a few friends.Quote
Fuck it! I'll never figure out how to do it.
I checked out Bruno's website and didn't find any marzipan. I would like to return there when I have room to indulge.
I'm gonna head on down to Ripley-Grier and get some practicing in. And then it's off to see Ms. Brooke Shields in Chicago tonight courtesy of a friend-of-a-friend.
**And now I just have to figure out when and if I introduce him to DR elmore. Then he'll definitely know I'm crazy! ;)
I'm up, I'm up.
First off, The Last Starfighter is up and ready for preorder, so those who can and wish to, should. The splash page on the site isn't the way I want it yet, but won't be fixed until tomorrow (Starfighter will be the main focus taking up the top two-thirds, and the others will just be covers at the bottom of the page). Order away if you're of a mind to. You'll really like it....
DRJane, look under holiday items.
Jane - what a great photo of you and Keith!
Seeing that Jane's DH has a beard reminded me that I've forgotten to tell you all that my biggest surprise after my week away was that my DH has started growing a beard! He's always had a moustache, but this is quite new...
Thanks elmore. I had looked under Holiday Specials, not Holiday Specialties. Silly me didn't realize there was a difference. :o
I love beards.Said Katie Holmes, patting her belly and her contract.
And I guess Cameron is hoping that Chitty will still be running at the Hilton/Ford by the time Ms. Poppins flies in.
Said Katie Holmes, patting her belly and her contract.
But I can never remember which town. ::)
Thanks Jose. :D I will call & see if they ship marzipan. I would like to know if they make it themselves. The good ship marzipan.
Maybe Frances is someone's class assignment this week, DR JMK.
...on the other hand the mailman just stuffed several wonderful items in the mail slot...a Bollywood movie (like I needed anymore after my trip to Little India), a Norman Luboff Choir CD, and a Percy Faith CD...woohoo!
I don't think so, JR--the hits are coming from all over the country. I'm thinking at this point that the Biography must have aired and it's just an unusually large segment of the population that was interested in learning more. I always get a *little* spike after it airs, but this one really kind of blows my mind. I'm going to be really curious to see what happens after the NPR thing airs.
Media check:
DVD: Finished up the ADAM-12 set (I hope season 2 will be out soon so that I don't go into withdrawls). Now I am into a set of 15 episodes of SHOTGUN SLADE starring Scott Brady.

Jrand: I always do my first reading/signing at Mystery and Imagination in Glendale - it's on November 19th.
JMK: A million apologies - I was packing that stuff so fast, but trying to remember to include the sparkling something-or-other (I had to reopen about five packages where I'd forgotten to include it), but I didn't think I'd missed signing anyone's book. Well, you know I'll sign it - you can get it back to me, or book me another reading for Rewind and I'll come to Portland and we can have a big get-together.
Who will be the first to read Rewind? I can't wait until someone reads the fershluganah book already.

I vote for another Portland get-together with Jane this time.

REWIND!!! by Bruce Kimmel....
I thought you'd left out your underwear to make room. Maybe that was a rumour that you kept leaving it everywhere.
And a cute little black pair the undies were, size 32-34, if I recall correctly!
Spoo! Have I said too much?Absolutely not.
Thank you all for the fun day....your tax dollars at work
Some people have all the luck.
Thank you Ben. It was grand having you keep me company while I cruised around in my car.
Dear folks!
As you can see I really enjoyed the book. I hope that you will put some money aside and buy Rewind. I think it is his best yet. Honestly! And I do not say this as the guy behind BK's tribute site, but as reader who really enjoyed the book.
I also need to crash.Watch out for that tree!!!! ;D
Ask again and write it down. Let me know when you find out.
I'm in the book! Now, should I change my name on the site to my REWIND alter ego? Marty's wrong about the original orchestra sessions: we only had three strings at the beginning: Michelle on violin, Nick on viola, and Ted on cello. Only Ted, the best of the group, stayed around.
Reading REWIND is like watching parts of Bruce's life and mine flashing before my eyes!
Raced me to it DR Vixmom. Some people think they're in every book they read. LOL
You mean I'm not Henry Beyer? It was all a - a dream? A delusion?

Are you feeling better?
I believe Ginny, Jane and Tomovoz have all said they will be in NY the first week of October 2006
Will Matt H and JRand be trying to journey to NYC that week as well?

Time and money will tell. ;D
With that much lead time, I should be able to arrange something! :D
And I have lined up some of last year's most acclaimed movies to record off HBO and STARZ including FINDING NEVERLAND. I'm looking forward to seeing that.
Nice hat, Lucille!
I enjoyed Finding Neverland very much. I will be interested to hear your impressions
Well, time to put myself to bed.
Hope everyone has a good rest of the evening.
Good night, all.
Pert Kelton and Tony Perkins shared the stage in GREENWILLOW, in case nobody mentioned that, just thought I'd throw that in.
Popeye's yes. I stopped by there on the way home, the one in Jose's neighborhood (which keeps its employees behind a wall of bulletproof glass). I just got a big box of chicken and some fries and settled in to cheer on the White Sox.
Great chicken, and now I have some in the fridge for later in the weekend. Have I told you I love cold chicken as much as warm chicken?
And for the record, I couldn't care less about Tom and Katie.
Just caught up on the day's posts. So nice to see the Starfighter vibes and such after a particularly harrowing day at work.
Vixmom - Skip and I will cheerfully sign anything, within reason, that is. Thanks for asking!
(desperately looks around for a pen that will show up on a dark CD background)Silver permanent markers, I hear, work well! Time to stock up!!
deep-fried cheesecake.
It's a nice album, too.
Born to wander till I'm dead...
Anyone remember the ill-named, ill-conceived restaurant chain SAMBO'S? I think it disappeared in the early 80s.
One last post before I go. I heard this story on NPR this evening MBarnum and thought of you. They played the Bulgarian track and it sounde like Bollywood. I thought you might like to check out this cd

Do they still have bank drive throughs where you put your deposit inside a little canister and it gets sucked over to the teller somehow. I always loved that as a kid. It seemed so "modern." But I realize now I never got to experience that as an adult due to the rise of ATMs.
It would be cool to own one of those cannisters.
At least, it is on my computer. ::)
Not on mine! ;D
