Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a Jewish teenage flavor, like borscht, and now it is time for you to post until the teenage Jew cows come home.

And the word of the day is: SPIRITED!

Thanks, Singdaw, for the Feel Better Vibes for my mom. She went to urgent care and got a diagnosis and medication. Hopefully, it'll be effective quickly!
-
And speaking of Charlie Brown, I found my CD! And here it is:
-
From the "Who knew?" department, who knew that:
'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' is based on a true story (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/4IdjBIwYrF4)...AND was supposed to be a sequel to Chinatown...yes, THAT Chinatown!

That's fascinating, George! Thanks for posting that.

TOD:
Bye Bye Birdie as a movie seems like it qualifies as a teen movie, and that's a favorite.
To Sir, With Love feels like a teen movie even though the teacher is the leading actor.
Were Tony, Maria, Riff, Bernardo, Anita and the gangs teenagers in West Side Story?
-
I guess the gang members in West Side Story must be in high school if they dance at the Gym. (I don't think colleges have gyms like that.)
-
"Someone" on google says Baby John in West Side Story may have been as young as 12.
There seems to be some discussion that Anita must be late twenties.
But if West Side Story does qualify as a teen movie of the 1960s, that's one of my favorites.

This is a bit concerning for people in, or traveling in and out of, New York City.

DR George, I'm happy to hear your Ma is okay.
-
Yesterday afternoon, Ann emailed me that she has Covid again! I think this may be her fthird or fourth time in the past four years.
-
I wonder if she caught it at the Minnesota State Fair.
-
As for me, I'm feeling puny, and I'm hoping I do not have Covid. I'm very lethargic and trying to get my energy up to do the laundry this morning. My body aches, and my right shoulder really hurts. I'll be 79 in three weeks; maybe my time is running out? I hope not, but DR ChasSmith, you may be summoned to fetch three cats.
-

I don't know if you missed my previous post, Larry.
This seems to be happening in New York City, in particular:

TOD
I loved horror movies, so I was crazy about I Was a Teenage Werewolf. I don't recall I Was a Teenage Frankenstein ever playing in Middletown, or I would have seen it.
I loved Where the Boys Are, but my favorite of the "beach party" movies was Ski Party; years later I realized it was a teen version of Some Like It Hot.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Well, here we are at the last of the three (3) summer holiday weekends.
We have been blessed with perfect weather these last several days, and that's supposed to continue for another week. That's rather extraordinary when it comes to the holidays.
-
Continuing the Friday TOD:
Last night I finished watching the various supplements on the Day for Night discs. "Discs" is plural because I have the Criterion Blu-ray, and when I opened the case I found it was one of those for which I'd saved a previous disc for whatever reason. It was an old Warner Bros. DVD that has an additional couple of interview features that are nice remembrances of Truffaut and the making of this film and others. I watched those and returned the whole thing to the shelf, taking out Shoot the Piano Player for whenever I'm ready to start that one. Now that, I believe, I have never seen. I'm just so glad I stockpiled a few of these things when I was buying a lot of Criterions at some point.
-
After watching all of that, I have no idea what led me to this but I took out State and Main, a David Mamet film with a dynamite cast including Patti LuPone whose role I wish had been more lengthy with a little more scene-chewing, but everyone is great and the dark comedic storyline is delightfully excruciating.
I'm thinking of planning another such double feature this evening. I like the idea of one foreign followed by one domestic. I pay close attention to the former, what with subtitles and all, and can relax over the latter.
-
And for today's TOD:
It's been a few years since I last dug into the teenage movie vault, and that sounds pretty good right about now. I think I last watched Where the Boys Are a couple of years ago, but I haven't seen the Beach Party movies in quite a while. I could get into any of those, but I also look forward to hearing others' lists.
The two I Was a Teenage ones, to my knowledge, have been held hostage and not released on anything post-VHS. Or were they even released in that format? I *might* still have them on an old off-the-air tape I made ... probably 25 or more years ago.

I don't know anything about this Press Box theeder. It's over in Southbury about 25 minutes from here. I think it's small and fairly new. They're doing The Fantasticks soon and I'll try to see that.
I was also just informed about this, which I really must try to get to:

I figured this was coming. I want to wait until the end of October to get the new covid vaccine, even if it is available in September, as we are traveling in November. Maybe I will begin wearing a mask more often as not to get covid before then. I don't think it is bad here yet.
-
So all the talk about A Boy Named Charlie Brown led me to Rod McKuen's album with his songs. And the songs from his other movies led me to their soundtracks.
-
Which is when I discovered that The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie has two albums - a soundtrack with conducting credited to Arthur Greenslade, and a music from the score album with conducting credited to Rod McKuen. Both have Rod McKuen credited as producer.
-
Does anyone know the story behind that? I'm guessing McKuen wanted some poppier mixes for an album on his own imprint than what worked for the soundtrack. Is that right or is there more to it? Did the soundtrack come out first, then the music from the score?

I remember the title of the MAD Magazine spoof The Prime of Miss Jean's Body better than the specifics of the actual movie, but the Oliver recording of "Jean" was on my turntable a bit, I recall.

Maggie Smith as Miss Jean Brodie shouting "Assassin!" was quite a thrilling acting moment.

For reasons I never understood, except that maybe the two movies both had hit singles, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie were on a double bill together.

I keep seeing these Bravo ads for The Real Housewives of Orange County, so I thought I'd see if my idiot niece is still on the program. And she is, but I didn't recognize her since she's had a facelift, maybe several. I think the little chubbette has probably had liposuction as well. Her father is my brother Macbeth, the POD I don't speak to.

I'm thinking the problems of my greedy brother and greedy sister-in-law should have been foreseeable by the rest of our family. When my brother told us he was falling love with a woman named Lady Macbeth, we lacked the awareness to assess the situation.

I am having really bad speech issues today, maybe the worst since this began. Just took pill one and Prednisone - hopefully that will help and I have to keep my mouth shut for a while. I've had almost no problems for the past two weeks, so this is worrisome. Maybe it's because I didn't take pill one until lunch.

Did anyone watch The Thursday Murder Club movie? It’s on Netflix. I enjoyed it, but I liked the book more. The book goes deeper into the characters. It was nice to see the book realized, to see it visually.

Very hot here after a very pleasant and unusually cool July and most of August. Next week, too. Ugh!
-
Made another offer on the condo, at a slightly higher price. Don’t know if he’ll accept or not. He may just rent it out.

Re Covid…I’ve heard of two studies that linked those who were able to get over Covid quickly with higher (50 to 80) vitamin D scores. Vitamin D levels can be tested with a simple blood test. It’s very difficult to get enough through just your food or sunshine. The supplements are very small capsules and are inexpensive.

I just watched CHAMPION for the first time....I've seen some clips. My takeaway:
Mr Kirk Douglas has a flat flat azz.
Director Mark Robson used Douglas's training montage as a model for Neely O'Hara's training montage in Valley of Dolls.
You heard both of these revelations here first on HHW.
-
Ready for a couple of more Kirk Douglas movies on TCM. I'll suffer through DETECTIVE STORY in order to see ACE IN THE HOLE.
But NOTHING could have persuaded me to see and suffer through TOP SECRET AFFAIR earlier today with those expert comic performers Douglas and Susan Hayward......

I’m glad so many people enjoyed the TMC movie. 🍿
I think it helps to have read the books. The movie omits some things, including some of the humor. I found the books very witty.
Jane, I was very pleased with the casting. When I first heard that Celia Imrie was playing Joyce I said, “Oh, no.” But she played Joyce very well. A strong cast all around.
I do wish Bogdon was in it more. He and Elizabeth were my two favorite characters.

Fabulous.

Watched half of a movie I've always wanted to see but never have, save for the first five minutes. So far, it's a bit too arch for me and for that I'd have to blame screenwriter and director. The actors are excellent, the score is excellent, the photography is excellent, and the book it's based on is, I'm sure, very good, as I'm a big fan of the author. I'll finish it up either later tonight or tomorrow.

Listening to Romeo as well as Juliet, courtesy Mr. Munch and Mr. Prokofiev. What a conductor - what a composer.
-
I was having a weird issue on the new computer that was driving me batty. When I'd go to drag a window to the side to make room for another window, suddenly the window just because full screen and I'd have to manually get it back to the size I like.
-
Finally Googled and found that on the new Macs it's a default setting now, something to do with "tiling" windows. It's a nice feature if you like and do that sort of thing. If you drag left it becomes full screen. What I didn't know is that all you had to do is a dragging motion to get it back to its original size. Anyway, I went into settings and shut it off.

And now, Mr. Munch is doing one of my all-time favorite recordings of his, the Walton cello concerto.
-
Gregor Piatigorsky, cello. Boston Symphony Orchestra.
-
Munch premiered the piece in 1957 and recorded it a few days later - one of the great Living Stereo recordings and available on SACD, too.
-
I love Walton.
-
Trying a new soda pop flavor - 7-Up zero sugar Tropical - very refreshing, actually.
I've had that one. I really like it.
