Well, you've read the notes, the notes had hope and were alive, and now it is time for you to post until the alive cows come home.

And the word of the day is: AMENITIES!

George, thanks for the Millstone Alert in last night's posts!

I really like Jersey Mike's Philly Cheese Steak sandwich. And their Roast Beef sandwich is quite excellent, too.

TOD: I've liked every "Rocky" movie I've seen, and every "Planet of the Apes" movie I'd seen from the series many years ago.
"A Boy Named Charlie Brown" and "Snoopy Come Home" was kind of a franchise, and recent discussion of "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" reminded me of how much I enjoyed those on the big screen in the movie theater.
On TV, does the series of "Gidget" TV movies count as a franchise? If so, I always watched them back in the day.

Good morning, all!

I slept poorly because the pains in my right shoulder and arm are intolerable. Thatch kept close watch over me.
-
I have no news. Today is colonoscopy prep day, a day I truly abhor. Before that, I have my usual tasks: basement, mail, tidy up, and I must put away the Amazon Fresh order that ust arrived.

Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
Nothing to report.
-
I finally found BK's original comments about Orphan. They are in the Notes from April 20, 2022.
-
And he talks about the sequel in the Notes from August 20, 2022.
-
TOD: Downton Abbey. I'm looking forward to the new one coming out next week.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Good prep endurance vibes for DR Elmore. I think most of us here know how not fun that is.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Hugs for Elmore. It’s not fun, I know all too well.
-
Good luck DR ELMORE.
-
I watched the twinsauce dance video.
I've danced just like that a couple of times when I got my inheritance caught in my zipper.
-
I checked my laundry bin this morning and I don't have enough clothes - lights or darks - to really make a full load....so probably not until next week,
-
I still think the opening scene of Orphan should be cut because it gets the film off on a weird start and feels like it was forced to be there by higher-ups, whose reasoning would be that they wanted something to grab the audience right away. But it's stupid and other than giving us a bit of information that we get one scene later, it's just not what the film is. I thought the other night, I should just start the movie after it.
-
So - ORPHAN.
-
I had such a weird dream that the only option was to wake up. And I swallowed wrong, so had to clear my throat and get that taste out of my mouth. I'll go back to bed shortly.
-
Yes, Orphan. I'll stay up to read Jrand's thoughts.
-
Maybe I'll have a couple of biscotti and take pill one and get that out of the way.
-
I have to say the MR BK hit the nail on the head in his comments on this movie.
I kind of a got a drift of where it was going, but the trip was well worth it.
Writing was crisp, story kept moving forward at top speed, all of the actors were great in their parts.
Leading actress surely very surely should have received an AA nomination.
It was a scary movie with NO supernatural overtones or shortccuts.
I may check out the prequel.
THanks to MR BK for his recommendation. I should have known he wouldn't steer me wrong.
-
I was up late last night working on a project.
-
Page Two.
-
I am putting together the scene change music for the current show. I decided I would end the show and bows with the wedding march.
So I thought I would use familiar classical themes and build to the ending march.
I got an email from the assistant director - his daughter is the director - and said that they want to use the wedding march at the end [great minds] and for the scene change includes a lot of furniture moving and adds on - it has been decreed that the music from "Benny Hill" will be used.....
The End.
-
1.4 billion Powerball on Saturday.
-
DR Jrand75, what is the show?
-
Ann is feeling better, and she and Jen are driving back from Boston.
-
I watched the twinsauce dance video.
I've danced just like that a couple of times when I got my inheritance caught in my zipper.
Maybe I'll pull my long-dormant time travel screenplay out of its virtual drawer, and add a scene where Jrand-in-1983 and FJL-in-1983 dance exactly like that. If the actors can't do it, we'll hire the twinsauce guys as body doubles.
Or maybe not.
-
I've accomplished all I need to do this morning: garbage to basement, kitty cleanup accomplished, Amazon Fresh delivery put away, and GraviLyte mixed and sitting in fridge until this evening; I have two rounds of it - 9:00pm and 3:00am.
I have to make the bed and do some light tidying up.
-
Still up.
-
Happy Jrand liked Orphan! And I think he'll find the prequel fun, too.
-
I'd still cut the opening scene, but in reality it doesn't kill the movie or anything. No real missteps after that, though. And as I've said before, any movie that uses The Glory of Love is aces in my book. One of my all-time favorite songs. Great tune, great lyrics, and the recording in the movie is from one of the surprisingly great albums Jimmy Durante made towards the end of his life - gorgeous arrangement. Must check and see who did it.
-
Roy Bargy, his longtime musical director - wonder if he orchestrated the arrangement?
-
LOL DR FREDDIE I hope we get paid to be consultants.
-
DR ELMORE I don't need them coming here by doing a search and see my not so gentle comments.
But the film version starred Spencer Tracy and Joan Bennett and was later remade starring Steve Martin.
-
Thanks again for the recommendation MR BK.
-
LOL DR FREDDIE I hope we get paid to be consultants.
If something were really to happen with the script or story, you'd probably have to be.

From DR Singdaw:
I don't think we're ever going to get to page 17, so I'm just gonna drop this here. A variant of the one I posted last week.
It's cool. Next time we get to page 17 simply use it again.

TOD
I'm a sucker for James Bond movies, even the lesser ones. I like all three Back to the Future movies, with of course much emphasis on the original. I love Raiders of the Lost Ark, and I like the next two films okay - but the last time I saw Temple of Doom, the "cute" element and the hysterics of Kate Capshaw et al. irritated the living hell out of me. Star Wars, just the first three films, thankyouverymuch, I'll never go beyond those. Planet of the Apes - the superb original, of course, but I'm also fond of the other four in the original series. No interest at all in the newer ones. This past week I've revisited the first three Beach Party movies, and on this viewing thus far, I was more fond of the first two than the third. Dirty Harry - yes, even the less thrilling ones.
Of course, this is ALL vintage material. Are there any contemporary franchises I like? That's a damn fine question. Something tells me the answer is no, but I could also be forgetting something. I'm equally sure I've forgotten to mention many from the past.
-
The only Omen movie I ever went to was the original, at the Egyptian. I'm a bit of a dissenter on this one. I admired it greatly, but it didn't scare me like I thought it should (I do love a good horror movie, and a good scare). I just didn't warm to it. I *think* I watched the others in that original series on a set of DVDs, and didn't care for any of the sequels.
Another horror series would be the Phantasm films. I saw the original - I think at the L.A. Filmex for that year - and liked it. I went to the second one a few years later, and I guess you'd say I liked that, too. Now I forget how many there were. At least a third, which now I don't remember but I saw it probably on disc once.
-
How about some Disney? Toy Story - great admiration and liking for the first three, even though I really have only seen them once. I did buy all three for eventual followup watching. I never thought they should have made any beyond the third, and have no interest in whatever followed.
I went to the original Pirates of the Caribbean movie and somewhat liked it but didn't come close to loving it. Now I catch a little bit of any of them, and they hold zero interest for me.
I have a love-hate relationship with the Mission: Impossible series. I haven't even seen them all. Sometimes I'll watch one and like it way better or worse than previous viewings.
Lord of the Rings, etc.? I initially liked and admired them, and they became 'eh' for me.
The Jurassic Park films? Loved the first, enjoyed the next couple of them, and couldn't care less about ever seeing all the newer ones.
-
Okay, someone else's turn! :)
-
I like the original The Omen - saw it at the Egyptian, too. I was actually glad it didn't scare me - it was creepy and the kid was perfectly cast and boy do I love Lee Remick and also I thought David Warner was great.
-
I will concur on the Planet of the Apes original movies and James Bond.
Star Wars the first three releases and Die Hard.
-
Agree. Great casting, and creepy is good.
-
I guess I got another three hours of sleep. Could use more. Woke up this time to some potentially wonderful news that I've been trying to make happen for over twenty years. I now have the stuff to make it happen IF and ONLY if everything I need is here. It seems like it is but there IS a question about two items that may have not been there but are archived. I'm just hoping we have everything we need. :)
-
Love Die Hard, but I have never seen any of the followups! I've always intended to see at least the second film.
-
Jrand, if you do want to watch the Orphan prequel - here is streaming - cheap - 3.79. You don't have to do the Par+ subscription.

TOD:
The Antoine Doinel movies
John Wick
James Bond
Evil Dead
The Terminator
Mad Max
Toy Story
Godzilla
I would include the Knives Out series if I had been able to see more than the first.

Good catch there, the Antoine Doinel ones.

I'm having a very lazy afternoon and trying not to let three cats spoil it.

Liz Larsen is getting good reviews for The Baltimorons.

Maybe she sings Lovers on Christmas Eve in it. It is set on Christmas Eve.
-
Still not feeling energetic.
-
I sorta met Peggy in Ohio in 1977 or 78. She was a children's librarian in the Cincinnati library system, and she was the girlfriend of Eugene Sher, a wonderful actor from North Carolina. He lived in Cincinnati, but he was working with his brothers in their carp;et/flooring store in Middletown. In 1978, Eugene followed his dream of becoming a professional actor, and he and Peggy moved to an apartment at East 80th Street and First Avenue.
On their move, their U-Haul had a faulty issue and around 3:00am on Route 80, somewhere in the middle of nowhere, the truck caught fire and everything they owned was destroyed. U-Haul gave them a huge settlement, and Eugene decided two things:
1. He would pay for an off-off-Broadway showcase and star in it.
2. I would direct it.
-
So, in June 1979, Eugene paid for my round-trip ticket to New York, and I moved in with him and Peggy. Our friend Wayne had been staying with them before I moved in. What I didn't know was that Eugene was telling me I could stay as long as I needed and he was telling Peggy, who was sick of houseguests, that I was looking for an apartment. By my second week, she was sick of me - in retrospect I cannot blame her - and by the third week I knew I had to get out. By then I huad decided I was not returning to Middletown, so I cashed in my return ticket and called my parents to ask for $1,000 to find an apartment. On a July Saturdat, I moved into my college friend Karen Eifert's guest room at Riverside Drive and 96th Street. Peggy and I had a very frosty farewell. I'll never speak to her again, I thought.
-
Eugene's showcase never happened. We couldn't settle on a play. He was waiting tables and actinf in a lot of things, but I told him I was sick of seeing crap where he was the only good actor. The rock-bottom was a commedia dell'arte group on Wall Street run by a fool of a director, but Peggy and her parents were there the same night I was, and we all ended up riding the subway back uptown. My ultimatum about crap plays to him occurred the following week, and we never spoke again.
One day, some time later, Peggy called me and told me that Eugene and she had split up and he had moved to Los Angeles. She also asked me to come to East 80th Street for lunch. So, I went; I was curious.
-
We talked about her and my split up with Eugene and what was going on in our lives. She was working as a librarian at the New York Society Library in 1979, but it was now 1981 and she was with the New York Public Library children's dept. I no longer remember the branch. I had moved to my second apartment in July 1980, so we talked about all that stress and the unpleasantness when I stayed with her and Eugene. Then she dropped the Big News: she had met at the library - shades of She Loves Me! - a writer named Peter Salwen, and they were getting married. I later met himn and gave her my approval, and for the next 40+ years they were the friends on WEst 86th Street that I never saw often enough. I will miss her.
-
Thank you, all, for your kind thoughts on Peggy's passing.
-
Condolences to elmore.
-
So sorry for your loss, Larry. Thank you for sharing that history. May her memory be a blessing.
-
I must be off. I'm ushering for POTUS (Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive).
-
It's supposed to be very funny. I hope it is.
Be back later.
-
Have fun.
-
Keith got Wordle in two.
-
We didn’t have sny women franchises listed earlier.
-
Except Gidget.
-
What about Bridget Jones? I liked them okay.
-
Margaret Rutherford in four Miss Marple movies.
-
Myrna in the Thin Man movies, which I loved.
-
I loved those.
-
Now watching a French film in French called Jane Austen Wrecked My Life.
-
Finished The First Omen - very weird movie.
-
I'm bored by female body horror movies, which is exactly what this is. Director is interesting visually - beautiful production design - actors are good. But several gross-out scenes that are NOTHING like The Omen, which has three great "shock" scenes that are justified and not overtly nutty like they do today.
-
Sorry about Peggy, Elmore. Great story of your reconnection.
-
I dont tend to enjoy sequels and I can’t think of a franchise where I saw every one, except Toy Story, I guess, but after the empty calories of #4, I will not see a #5.
-
Got a nice letter today from TransUnion telling me I was unfortunately part of their latest data breach and someone got access only to my birthday and SS#.
What a joke.
-
Sorry, DR Rodzinski. What a pain.
-
So very sorry on the loss of your friend, DR elmore3003. Thanks for sharing some of her story.

~~~PREP & PROCEDURE VIBES~~~ for you, for tonight and tomorrow.
Sorry, Rodzinski, about the data breach.
That plane does not look tasty, Singdaw.
Me: Why is the song called "UNDER the Sea"? They're not UNDER the sea; they're IN the sea.
Pharmacist: I meant any questions about your prescription.
Not even if it's made with Texas toast? :)
I would be up for watching Orphan: First Kill.
Maureen and Bill were just here for dinner. It was so great to see them!
It rained very hard here for about 2.5 hours. I'm not complaining.
No.
-
It rained very hard here for about 2.5 hours. I'm not complaining.
As long as it doesn't rain on your splendid new Millstone!
-
Oh my gosh. Had forgotten about that.
-
But I don't have anything to say that's millstone-worthy.
Fret, fret.
Grumble, grumble.
One more.
This is a millstone.
Very meta.
This is a millstone.
Congratulations, singdaw, on your round and wonderful new millstone!
-
Thanks, DR Freddie. Without you, it would have passed me by, completely unnoticed.
-
And hitherto unremarked upon.
-
LUCKY #140.
-
I don't think I can last to page six.
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
This is a millstone.
Congratulations!
-
Starting Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Never have seen the show before. But I love Carol Kane and Jane Krakowski.
-
Strange that Jane and costar Titus Burgess have both been cast as Mary Lincoln in Oh, Mary!
-
I may not make it through too many episodes.
-
It’s time …
-
… to move on.
-
Six!
-
I tried to watch Kimmy - hated it.
-
I tried to find a movie but instead dozed off for a whopping two hours. By the time I finally hauled myself off the couch it was eighty-three degrees in the house. Cooling it down now.
-
I tried to watch Kimmy - hated it.
I turned it off during the first episode. I doubt I will watch much more.
-
Good night, all..
-
Listening to music.
-
Have some boneless wings on their merry way.
-
Well, I got the official e-mail from the director of Jekyll & Hyde and I start rehearsals on Monday! :D
-
I got links to the tracks, but I don't know if they're backing tracks or just tracks from recordings of the show. ::)
-
I just got home from ushering, so I haven't had time to listen yet, but I will shortly.
-
I watched a “Spy Kids” on a plane once. Long before I had kids. Or spies.
-
I just got back from ushering for a local production of POTUS (Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive), and it was pretty good.
-
I feel like listening to some Linda Ronstadt.
-
I just got back from ushering for a local production of POTUS (Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive), and it was pretty good.
I believe this originated out of Steppenwolf.
-
I was able to chat with a couple of theater friends after the show and they thought the actors (all women) were a little bit off...that their timing wasn't as good as it could or should have been.
-
It was a good play, and they were all good actors, but I think I agree. It just didn't gel for me as I think it probably should have.
-
I'm working concessions for it on Saturday, so we'll see how I feel about it after a second viewing.
-
A lot of the audience did enjoy it, but I counted five people who left at intermission. ::)
-
FYI: There's a lot of "language"...if you're offended by that, which I'm not.
-
The opening scene is a couple of POTUS' staff talking about how he called his wife the "c" word at a meeting...well, he called her not being at the meeting "c*nty," even though she was there but was hidden behind people standing in front of her, so he didn't see that she was there.
-
They said the word, and said it often. That scene was pretty funny...and they all said many words throughout the whole show that would offend sensitive viewers.
-
It was funny, but overall, it wasn't (to me, at least) as hysterical as it should've heen.
-
I just got back from ushering for a local production of POTUS (Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive), and it was pretty good.
Congrats to DR singdaw on his millstone.
Condolences to DR ELMORE and to the family of his friend.
thanks for sharing the story.
The show tonight had a big chase-type scene and they also used the "Benny Hill" music! ;D
Good job Amazon.
Amazing. I think that there should be a lotto/lottery that could potentially have a jackpot that large, but that the most that anyone could win is maybe a million dollars, but a thousand tickets would be able to win...and you could only win once per drawing.
I applied for a couple of jobs but didn't get interviews, but just doing research on what one needs to put on resumes nowadays, and what one should do, say, how to dress, etc., if you get an actual interview was really scary. Everything seems so specific and one wrong move could put you at the bottom the the list.
It just wasn't worth the hassle for a job that I might only need for a couple of years.
Interesting photos from George last night. I'm sure your hard work was appreciated.
Thanks, Jane!
I guess I got another three hours of sleep. Could use more. Woke up this time to some potentially wonderful news that I've been trying to make happen for over twenty years. I now have the stuff to make it happen IF and ONLY if everything I need is here. It seems like it is but there IS a question about two items that may have not been there but are archived. I'm just hoping we have everything we need. :)
Don't feel great today, but it's not covid according to the test.
That's good news, John!
Strange that Jane and costar Titus Burgess have both been cast as Mary Lincoln in Oh, Mary!
There aren't too many shows where something like that can happen. :)
Have some boneless wings on their merry way.
Be careful, BK. They now legally can actually have bones! :P
-
I got links to the tracks, but I don't know if they're backing tracks or just tracks from recordings of the show. ::)
It turns out that they provided both. There is a set list from a couple of different recordings to get the feel of the piece, and the rehearsal tracks, so that's good.
Now, I just need to get the sheet music...which I'll get on Monday.
