Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the New World, Bruno, AND Antonin, together again, and now it is time for you to post until the New World cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BEHEST!
-
Can someone who recently pulled out their CD of Believe - make me a set of WAV files and send to me via We Transfer? I need this ASAP. I thought someone had done it, but if they did I can't find it anywhere.
-
My current computer does not have a disc drive. I think DR George did that?
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well, and I am feeling better than I did yesterday. I may actually accomplsh a few things today.
-
I don't have the Believe cd.......
-
BK, if I understand you correctly, the pro-tools issue concerns the original vocals?
If you cannot restore them, can't you record new vocals to the tracks? You have wonderful singers from your Kritzerland shows. Surely you have worked with enough people to fill the vocal needs of the arrangements?
-
:-(
-
I don't have the Believe cd.......
Neither do I. Good morning, DR Jrand75!

If a woman marries a man who already has grandchildren, does she become an instagram?
-
Yes, that is one option - to record all new vocals. The other option, IF they've somehow lost the vocal tracks, which is mind-boggling in its stupidity, is to strip the vocals from the CD - they have software that apparently does this really well. So, I've asked LA guy to explore, but there's still this one session he can't open and we really have to see what that is, although he told me he CAN see all the audio files from every session and there are no vocals other than the scratch vocals we did in LA. So, as soon as I can get WAV files I can have him do a test - a lot of this stuff is free on the Internet. There ARE a couple of songs I would absolutely record anew, because I knew that the Hushabye vocal was not good enough - twelve takes and a non-starter in every way. Also, Busker Alley could use a fresh thing because while I had enough to make a good vocal, they didn't comp. But we need to see what's possible and the thing about doing stuff anew is that we would have to pay for the studio and I'd have to give the singers at least a stipend of some sort.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Very long day ahead.
-
We play bells for the first time in months.
-
Then a dance lesson.
-
Ushering for the performing arts center's annual open house.
-
Then more dancing.
-
Hopefully someone can give you a hand MR BK.
-
Cannot fall asleep. Too much ABS (Active Brain Syndrome).
-
I'll try in a bit and hope I can at least get a few hours.

If a woman marries a man who already has grandchildren, does she become an instagram?
LOL!
-
Then more dancing.
Hope it's a fun day, John G!

I am attending my last official meeting of the bored today - although I will also attend the Annual Meeting on Oct. 19

Will you continue to do the publicity and website work you've been doing, Jrand?

Good morning, all.

Sunday.
A rainy, chilly, overcast, dreary Sunday.
I do not complain. I fully intended to have an indoors day, puttering, working on things, laying low.

I'm in a somewhat similar old-media-conversion quandary.
I've got a dozen MiniDV tapes - anyone remember that technology? - early 2000s? - to convert to MP4s (and/or have transferred to DVDs). Fortunately, I also have the camcorder they were taken on and it works beautifully. But to convert them yourself, you need the right Firewire cable(s) which I might have, but also an adaptor or two to get the signal into Thunderbolt ports on a Mac. Or maybe I even need a whole new Firewire-to-Thunderbolt cable as well as a converter from Thunderbolt 3 to 2 since that's what my older Mac has. Or you can do it on a Windows machine with other adaptor issues, and I think mine's way too old and slow for a process like that. The third option is simply taking them to any number of places that do it for you, but it looks like $20 or more for each tape, adding up to a nearly $300 expenditure all told.
There's no deadline on this, but I'd love to have it done in the foreseeable future, and I've also promised a friend that they can have this MiniDV camcorder for their own projects when I'm done. It's the number of obstacles in the way, and the decisions to be made, that are so frustrating with this stuff.
-
I thought I was fine, and then about 45 minutes ago, I was violently sick. I just finished cleaning up the mess and changing clothes. I need to mop the foyer and bathroom floors . . . later, Henrik, later.

Happy Sunday to everyone! With the successful return of Mamma Mia to Broadway, I'm taking a look at jukebox musicals on the newest episode of the Broadway Radio Show. We'll dive into the great debate about the definition of what a jukebox musical is and look at the hits and misses from the past several seasons and what the future holds for this controversial musical genre.

No DR FREDDIE I shall move on.....after having a key to the front door for more than 40 years, I am not interested in working as an outsider.

Inherent Vice, yeah, one of the last movies I saw in a theater before having kids. I remember little. Something about a dentist? It was labored.

Ah DR CHAS SMITH I meant to mention that SKI PARTY has Deborah Walley & the gals singing "I'll Never Change Him" which had been Annette's only solo in BEACH BLANKET BINGO,
So the powers that be took the song out of BBB leaving Annette with no solo in that movie.

It's amazing how many times something comes up that makes me miss it. Sometimes, depending on the particular need, it makes me wish I could have seen into the future and stockpiled a bunch of their stuff.

Right!
DR Jrand75, I think one of your noble callings is to write the beach party movies bible. Get on that, will you?
Didn't watch one last night. How to Stuff... got rescheduled to tonight, and I look forward to it. I barely remember seeing it.

Haven't seen Inherent Vice. I run hot and cold on PTA's movies.

From DR John:
I finished it this morning. All of her mysteries are 1,000 pages long.
Maybe they just seem that long ;)
The first one was 456 pages. Then they kept getting longer, 464, 609, 650, 944, and up. My brother felt the first book was a tad too long and stopped reading after the fourth book.
Did you feel this one was too long or just right?
-
DR Singdaw. Your mother's backyard is nice. I find it hard to imagine a drought in NJ.
-
IMHO, it is much easier reading long books when you read quickly.

Not too long. I like the way she unravels things and later ties some of them up.

Heavy downpour right now. My feet are wet. Oh, what mixed joy.

Finally got three hours of sleep.

I remember at least two or three people saying they'd found their Believe CDs. I really need these WAV files now - we have to do this test as soon as possible. I can't get to my copy - it's in a box and I have no idea WHICH box. Whatever is on YouTube is not of sufficient quality.

Somehow, that reminds me of my childhood surprise when first realizing that "Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?" had a catchy title song, and Doris Day was not singing it.

From the Times: The CABARET revival is closing on Broadway with huge losses, even though the same production has been a hit in London.

"With Billy Porter Sidelined by Illness, ‘Cabaret’ Moves Up Closing
The revival will now end its run on Sept. 21, much earlier than previously hoped for."

Ann was down to visit and somehow we got on the subject of my first union recording, a set of New York songs for Book-of-the-Month Club. This set has been OP for years along with a set of Sondheim.
BK, are these worth digging up and taking them over?

Sadly, I didn't find my actual CD...yet, anyway. I had saved the images to my computer and I only have MP3s (320kbps) of the songs, not WAV files. :-\

I do have WAV files of BK's "Rare Tracks" CD, but that doesn't help.

I'll keep looking for the "Believe" CD, though.

My understanding is that the vocal stripping technology works better with voice and small ensemble (especially voice / guitar / bass / drums) than voice and orchestra. But maybe things have improved since I last checked. I hope someone can get you the wav files from the CD to test it, I don't have it here myself.
-
Who were the three who found the CD? I can't make decisions until we do this test. But after speaking to the LA engineer I at least at long last understand why the CD was so bad in terms of the band. If finally makes sense to me and is why we don't have any of the NY vocals. They're on a separate drive that was not stored with these - that drive is what they mixed from and that's what they have to find - it's probably stored with other drives that contain the mixes from which the CDs were made. And now I understand when the idiot who did the mix said he couldn't find the second pass of the band. He never even opened that drive, only the drive with the NY vocals - which had terrible rough band mixes made just for the singers to sing to - most of which did not have the second pass even open.
-
Anyway, the sooner I get the WAV files the sooner I'll know what has to be done if they cannot locate this other drive - I've written them about it.

DR Rodzinski & DR George,

For fans of NCIS, Paramount now has three episode of the new series TONY AND ZIVA they just released, then an additional episode every week for a total of ten episodes.
Apparently, Tony and Ziva had a daughter together. It was great fun in the first episode hearing Ziva referred to as a "Jewish mother." (Well, the character is a mom who's also a spy from the Israeli version of the CIA, the Mossad.)

I wasn't surprised about the vaccination news from Washington. I've read a bit about the California, Oregon, Washington, and now Hawaii health alliance that has been formed. Maybe I should have said is being formed. It would be nice if other states joined.

After reading about Josh Green, the governor of Hawaii, I can see why he quickly joined the Health Alliance.
-
After completing his residency in primary medican he joined the National Health Service Corps and was stationed in Hawaii. At times he was the only physician in some of the rural areas.
-
In both 2009 & 2022 he was named physician of the year by the Hawaiʻi Medical Association.
-
In 2019 he lead a 75 person medical team to Samoa to give vaccinations during a measles outbreak.

Such legal troubles. Good thing for them that they developed a sense of humor about that.
Went down a brief rabbit hole with that! This is apparently the key to the various managers the Turtles mention:
Manager 1 - Bill Uttley
Manager 2 - Dave Krambeck
Manager 3 - TME Associates
Manager 4 - Rick Silverland (Rosalie Morton being the lawyer)
Manager 5 - Carlos Bernal
Manager 6 - Campbell-Silver-Cosby Corporation (Bill Cosby being "the big TV star with a #1 show")
Manager 7 - Ron DeBlasio and Jeff Wald of Campbell-Silver-Cosby Corporation
Manager 8 - Bill Uttley

"Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter Are Ready for ‘Godot’
After years of training (clowning, Butoh and more), the longtime friends take on Samuel Beckett’s towering drama on Broadway."

If you haven't seen this, here are Mark and Howard summarizing the legal problems of The Turtles, after a short introduction of "Happy Together":

I watched this morning the whole documentary that that clip is from on YouTube. Very fun, underrated band.

Thanks for this. I meant to see if this info was out there.
-
Just finished watching the Netflix sensation, “K-Pop Demon Hunters” with the fam. It was quite good.
-
Time for bed.
-
Good night, all.
-
Unpredictable.

Thanks for this. By "wrecking our career", I assume "the lawyer" is the one who signed off on them not being able to use either their given names or "The Turtles" in other contexts. Hence Flo and Eddie.

I should get Mark's memoir. He taught at the alma mater of the niece I just visited in DC.
-
Ah, I found the Turtles documentary:

-
Sorry, yes, you found it. The one that starts with a Tommy Smothers intro.
-
Aside from (and because of) their bad management, they also were on a bad label, White Whale, that hurt them as well.
-
They did win a lawsuit over some rap sampling of their material that did get them some money at some point.
-
It was White Whale, who never signed another group who sold many records, who was responsible for Kaylan and Volman not being allowed to use the Turtles name or their own given names. White Whale is now owned by Varese Sarabande.
-
The last single released on White Whale was a #33 hit in 1970. This haunting track by Hawaiian lounge act, Liz Damon’s Orient Express.

I got the WAV files from someone in NY - the engineer now has them and will see what can be done. But I also sent the information on how the drive that has the vocals might be labeled and what it might be filed with.

Trying a new snack - English muffin with peanut butter and jelly - I could eat about ten of these right now. So comfy.
-
Watched a TV movie - about thirty minutes in it all seemed very familiar and, of course, I saw it a mere two years ago. I wish with Prime it would alert you to the fact you watched it. Anyway, I went and finished it because I didn't remember much about it.
-
Page six???
-
Oh boy - I have to be VERY careful about this English muffin with peanut butter and raspberry jam business. It was soooo good.
-
I really could just eat more of them right now, or start spooning a ton of peanut butter into the mouth. It's why I rarely buy peanut butter, but it's so good and I got extra chunky only because I'm extra chunky, so we're a matching set. Many brands to choose from, with the obvious being Skippy, since that's what we probably had as kids, but I opted for Jif and it's very good, although I'm sure all the famous brands are exactly the same.
-
Listening to the main Dvorak symphonies, five through nine, with one of the highest rated complete sets, Rafael Kubelik on Deutsche Grammophon. Beautiful performances by a superb band in great stereo.
-
There are four earlier symphonies from his youth - I don't have those on the computer so I must not have found them interesting, but maybe I'll find the box and upload 'em.
-
And here are the Turtles performing the John Williams-Leslie Bricusse theme they did for A Guide for the Married Man.

Do ya butter the English muffins before adding the jam and peanut butter? Extra delicious.
-
I didn't do butter.
-
Just heard the extracted vocals - kind of amazing how fast he did it. And I'd say about half would maybe be usable depending on certain factors. That's about eight tracks. Any duet or anything with a chorus has to be done anew, and a couple of the up-tempos just have too many artifacts. And the unknown is what will happen if I add the reverb I like for the vocals - what the idiot boy who did the mix used is so mild it's almost like it isn't even there.
But ideally, if they find the missing drive, I can comp and make every vocal 1000% better. But even then, there are two tracks I would definitely replace with new people.
-
Must write some damn notes.
-
It must be done.
-
And I must do it.
-
Because I am the doer.
-
The one who does.
-
The doesee.
-
I do the doing.
-
I do, I do.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
And where has George gone to?
-
Disappeared.
-
Not here.
-
Gratuitous Post #203!!
-
Odd.
-
Finally, the wayward stranger shows his face.
-
And where has George gone to?
I was still (off and on ::) ) still looking for my "Believe" CD...still haven't found it. :(

I like all kinds of peanut butter brands, but I prefer the "natural" kinds of peanut butter that are made with just peanuts and salt.
