Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke ill of bots, and now it is time for you to post until the bot cows come home.

And the word of the day is: RESPLENDENT!

Whew!
-
Topic of the Day: yes. :)
I have no idea what my first cookies would've been, or even some of the earliest...probably the ubiquitous chocolate chip cookie.
-
Favorite packaged cookies are mostly Oreos and Nutter Butters. :)
-
Good morning.
-
Where have I been?
-
I have no idea.
-
Well.one or two semi interesting things have happened
-
Perhaps I'll bore you with them later
-
Right now I very much want to ketchup with everyone's adventures, so I'll do a quick backwards look at all I've missed
-
I hope you're all well
-
I can tell you that several books hsve arrived
-
I have yet been able to finish them all
-
But I have dived in and read the beginning chapters of Annabelle and Thatch
-
And also the first few chapters of Richard and Me
-
I've also laughed over several clever parodies in Freddie's latest
-
And gotten some excellent advice on wine tasting from John, which I can apply on our next visit to the East End wineries
-
I hope you have all been well...but now I shall go ketchup and see what you've all been up to.
-
And I shall try to be a more reliable visitor
-
Congratulations, John G, on your very successful book signing last night!!!
-
I've also laughed over several clever parodies in Freddie's latest
Thanks, vixmom!

TOD: Mallomars are in my memory as favorites from when I was really young.
These days: Black and white cookies, macarons, soft-baked chocolate chip cookies and oatmeal raisin cookies, oatmeal chocolate chip
-
Larry, is your publisher arranging any events for you, either in person or by Zoom?
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept rather well last night, a very nice surprise.
-
I was about to post Where the fat hell is vixmom?
What a nice surprise to find her here!
-
Today would have been the 72nd birthday of John McGlinn. Take a moment to listen ro your favorite McGlinn recording, bootleg, or track. My favorite track remains this number from Babes in Toyland:
https://soundcloud.com/user5614139/barney-oflynn
-
Larry, is your publisher arranging any events for you, either in person or by Zoom?
No, I'm sorry to say. He has no money for promotion or PR, nor do I. This is one reason why I initially tried to get a literary agent, to push the book to a major publisher, but after around 120 rejections, I gave up any hope of that ever happening. I am totally de word of mouth, and I'd love to get the book into the book club circles.
-
My mobility has also been an issue. Ann told mer over two weeks ago that she would take to the post office some books I want to send out. I'm still waiting. I wish I could afford a personal assistant.
-
Well, the site won't accept photos at the momentment. WTF?
-
Well, damn! This is the second day in a row that Ann has screwed me over about taking books to the post office for me. I hate being dependent on others.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Can we please go back to the world before bots and algorithms and ... and ...? well, you get the idea.
-
Last night I wanted to pick something off the to-watch stack, and decided to just sit back and listen to one of the commentaries I've kept a few movies on the stack for. Miracle Mile was just the ticket. I listened to the track with the director, cinematographer, and someone I'm forgetting. I kept my eye on the screen (which I do anyway, unless the commentary is more of a general essay) because they were very much discussing what we were seeing. It was informative and really a great talk. And of course it made me miss "my" late-1980s L.A. as much as ever.
-
Good morning.
-
I miss the original LACMA museum complex more than ever. I remember being shocked when, having not been there for a while, they had put that whole new building in the open center court, filling in and covering up the beautiful open-space plaza between the Ahmanson, Hammer, and Bing Theater buildings. Well, now I'm even nostalgic about that one, which I grew accustomed to passing all the time in those late-80s years. I'm sorry I never went in. What's been going up now in the place of all of that is unspeakable.
-
Good morning, all.
-
TOD: Mom used to buy packaged Chips Ahoy cookies that I always enjoyed. Today I make cookies when I host groups, but I rarely eat them.
For a while I made sugar cookies with royal icing, but they take so long to decorate and it kills my back, so I usually only make them on Halloween. Some of Elmore's friends received cookies decorated like saguaro cacti when they came through town on tour with musicals.
-
Hi, Vixmom!
-
Running late.
-
We froze cookie dough balls during Vacation Bible School, some of which we baked for the anniversary party last week. There's still a lot of dough balls in the freezer, so I'll probably bake some of those soon.
Freezing the dough balls makes sense, so maybe I'll make some for the groups I host; then I won't have to do it on the day of the event.
-
I have an appointment to donate blood today, so maybe I'll get some packaged cookies afterwards.
-
Our chances for rain went way down, so I guess they were just teasing us. Again.
-
I'm hearing thunder, which is strange.
-
I'm trying to remember what cookies we had around when we were kids. Oreos and Fig Newtons, for sure. Don't know about other packaged ones. My mother might have occasionally made some from a package, but I don't know which.
I remember a short-lived Chips Ahoy binge in the early 1980s. I grew disenchanted with them because I was then discovering the fresh, warm Mrs. Fields and David's chocolate chip cookies at malls and in department stores, so those were my go-to for a while. But I eventually moved away from chocolate chip because I was finding them cloying. Oatmeal Raisin became my leading favorite for quite a while. It still is, but they vary a lot between makers. Peanut Butter cookies might be my #1 favorite right now, alongside oatmeal.
Holiday cookies are great, but really, just certain ones, and I'm not sure I can name the ones I really like without having them in front of me.
-
In the early '70s, the Famous Amos chocolate chip brand was huge in L.A. with the cute little shop on Sunset Blvd. But I never warmed to that style which I found too crisp. Actually, that was my problem with the mass-produced Chips Ahoy a decade later. I really went for chewy cookies then, and still do.
I haven't made any in years, and when I did it was only ever from packaged mixes, but I used to make some for myself and I always deliberately kept them from getting over-baked in order to keep them at that lovely chewy texture.
-
The first few times I was going to Dallas (Carrollton, to be specific) for visits to our corporate headquarters when I was working from home in the early 2000s, they were having us stay at a DoubleTree where you get a warm chewy chocolate chip cookie when checking into your room. That was just about the only thing I liked about the place. (Later we were all staying at the nearby Omni, a world of difference in every way, never mind the damned chocolate chip cookie.)

I m homorred
-
So what have I been up to ?
-
I visit WFO most nights after work and then go home cook dinner, eat dinner, watch some TV and go to bed
-
Then the next day I do the same thing
-
I told you all a couple of months ago about my friend Pam who suddenly passed away.
-
Well her husband, also a very good friend, gave us a scare about a month ago
-
He was supposed to go on a weekend trip via train, and another good mutual friend ( we've all known each 50 odd years)
-
Had promised to take him to the train station.
-
Well thank all that is holy that he did, rather than having,Frank call an Uber, because Frank collapsed at the station.
-
Friend Joe got him.in the car, and rushed him to the ER where it was discovered Frank was in kidney failure.
-
He ended up in a coma for 10 days and things were very touch and go for a while there.
-
Fortunately the prayers of many were answered and Frank is now back with us, albeit it in rehabilitation and getting dialysis a few days a week.
-
That was much too much of the wrong kind of excitement
-
Some of the happier events were seeing the Bacon Bros Band.
-
Kevin and Michael Bacon along with a keyboardist, bass player, lead guitar and drummer.
-
The tickets were reasonable and the venue local so Vixdad and I went in "blind" just as a fun date night
-
We quite enjoyed ourselves.
-
The music was reminiscent of 70's easy listening with a country influence and quite pleasant.
-
Vixdad and I also have been binging Only Murders in the Building to bring us up to speed for this new season.
-
We realized perhaps we've been watching it bit too much
-
Fortunately the prayers of many were answered and Frank is now back with us, albeit it in rehabilitation and getting dialysis a few days a week.
Good that he has a decent prognosis.
-
We realized perhaps we've been watching it bit too much
Why?
-
We went to the Downtown Abbey movie, which opens with a scene of members of the house attending the theatre.
-
When the scene was open we each whispered we had been waiting for a shot to ring out and kill one of the actors
-
Spoiler Alert: Downtown Abbey is not a murder mystery
-
When the scene was open we Rachel whispered we had been waiting for a shot to ring out and kill one of the actors
Mixing up the two shows? Sounds like one of BK's What If scenarios.
-
Vixdad and I also went out to see Spinal Tap II, The End Continues, which was a lot of fun.
-
Good to see you here, DR vixmom.
-
Good afternoon, friends.
-
And others.
-
Glad to read that your signing went well, DR John G.
-
No cavities!
-
From DR John:
The book signing was fun. Sold about three dozen books.
Great!
-
DR George, nice photos from last night.
-
From Bruce:
I so miss Mystery and Imagination Books - those were the days.

Did I not write about how hard it is to get book events in today's notes. I'm pretty sure I did. It used to be different. Booking a NY signing for the first two memoirs was a piece of cake, same for the first Adriana book. Now it just seems impossible, even here in my home town.

Book store & libraries like to showcase local writers. Sadly there are fewer bookstores, and LA has many local authors.

Just tiny Ritz with peanut butter. And no juice boxes.

We're in discussions with Book Soup but they're VERY slow to respond and the discussions have not gone anywhere - it's been over a month since we contacted them. I'm gonna try Larry Edmunds next.
-
Listening to John McGlinn's Busby Berkeley album, which is an odd album. I love all the songs. And the recording cleans up the sound of the original while being slavish to the original. Right down to the belly/tummy lyric flub in Shuffle Off to Buffalo. I never thought of Brent Barrett as Dick Powell, but his impersonation is uncanny. It's both good and completely unnecessary.

I have no energy.

The interview that Eva Heinemann did with me for her TV show is also on YouTube.
I think I learned that I need to be more conscious of not motioning with my hands as much when on Zoom, and the lighting (and my glasses) made the room (and me) look dark. It was mostly about the parodies, but there was time, so we also touched on The Last Starfighter and Viva Max towards the end of the interview.
The interview starts at 14:58 into the YouTube and is about 12 minutes.

How is BK not a famous enough author to have a reading?
-
I am now at LAX, this whirlwind stint in BK-land coming to a close. Been gladhanding clients and collecting possible story ideas. Meeting nice cemetery people, but now I am socialed out!
-
Some cemetery association people took my out to a very nice steak dinner last night. That was a delight. Some of us were then having a drink at hotel’s Disney Tiki bar. Then the staff kicked us out. And we sat by a fireplace visiting. A legitimately large possum came walking through the path from the pool. That was wild. Then it started to rain. Up early this morning for more seminars and booth standing around. Then Uber’d it here to l’aéroport.
-
How is BK not a famous enough author to have a reading?
That is very odd that that's happening; when I was in my teens and twenties, before he started producing music, BK was what anyone would call a celebrity as an actor and creative.
Then, he's become a celebrity as a producer.

Will that get me canceled?
-
Howdy, Rupert!
-
Doing the TCM thing tonight, watching The Best Years of Our Lives.
-
I’ve started Outrageous, a Brit miniseries based on the Mitford girls.

Love that movie.
-
I love Nancy Mitford’s novels, but her family was something else. Sister Diana was a Nazi. So was Unity. The others fell all over the place. But somehow reading a bio of the family was more outrageous than the miniseries.
-
How far is Issaquah from you, George?
-
Eight!
-
Good night, all.
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
This has been a weirdly unpleasant day so I just ordered a personal pizza - I only had catfish earlier - and I don't care who knows it - I ordered it, it will arrive, I will eat it.
-
Anyone has a problem with that, meet you at the flagpole.
-
But at least we're on page eight - that's lovely.
-
Several people keep promising me they'll write a review of the book - but no such reviews have shown up. Don't understand it.
-
Where'd everybody get to?
-
I am baffled by the difficulty in getting a signing, even in small bookstores. I tried one of those in the Valley - the guy who actually turned me on to the publisher way back in 2001. His response: I'll think about it. Apparently, he's still thinking about it and he can go eff himself.f
-
Or maybe e himself.
-
Little personal pizza was pretty okay - four bite sized pieces - sauce is a bit to acidic-tasting for my taste.
-
Third pill taken.
-
New notes are written.
-
They'll be posted in a mere minute.
-
A Mere Minute - that's the title of my next novel.
-
The pizza thing was one of them deep dish affairs.
-
Sausage, pepperoni, green pepper, onion, tomatoes.
-
Fully loaded and looking for bear.
-
Or bare.
-
Or something.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
