Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of creepy mohair sweaters, and now it is time for you to post until the mohair cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PUNDIT!

Good morning, all!
-
I slept well for about four hours; around midnight I woke and had the hardest time getting back to sleep. Thatch was very anxious last night, lying down next to me for a bit and then running off and coming back to jump on me. The alarm rang at 5:00 and I was happy to get out of bed.
-
I was up early because I have an early doctor's appointment with a new doctor, a nephrologist, who will check me out for kidney disease. I want to get kitty cleanup finished before Access-a-Ride shows up.
-
Good morning.
-
I haven't seen Burn, Witch, Burn in years. I never saw it in its first release, but I cannot remember now if I saw it on VHS or DVD. The male lead, Peter Wyngarde, was Alan Bates' romantic partner for years. I did read the novel in the late 1960s, and I now remember next to nothing about it.
-
Good morning, DR Laura! How's Leonard?
-
Good morning, Elmore. Leonard is sitting beside me.
-
I have to get ready to go. Have a good day!

~~~TRAVEL & APPOINTMENT VIBES~~~ for BK!!!
-
For no other reason than I just saw a Tovah Feldshuh post on Facebook, and that all who celebrate should have a Shannah Tovah:
Tovah Feldshuh - title song from Saravá (on The Merv Griffin Show)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXvtS58vtm0
-
For anyone interested from BK's notes, the album is called "Les demoiselles swinguent à Rochefort," by Pierre Gérard Verny & Graffiti Groupe Vocal. And, like BK said, it's fab!
-
You couldn't PAY me to wear a mohair sweater.
It makes me itchy just to look at it.
Itchy. And twitchy. And manic.
PAGE TWO!!
But alive!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I am here following a more-than-one-hour-long call with Xfinity about my service going out at one in the morning. I had a second wind and was watching The Night of the Iguana on TCM, and halfway through ... zap. Nothing. TV, modem, everything, out like a light.
Miraculously, what the Xfinity person did this time
(wait for it)
FIXED THE PROBLEM.
-
So as awful as these calls can be to get through, this one actually worked. I thank the gods, and now it is time to move on.
-
Now and then that happens - and a couple of times I got a life story to go along with it.
-
I guess we can assume any absent HHW'er today has been raptured.
-
I went to the getting place to get things this morning.
When I got home I realized it was more like the FORgetting place.
I may have to go back Friday morning.
-
My only connection with mohair was as a young kid. I don't remember if it was ours originally, or if it had belonged to one of my grandparents, but we had a mohair-covered armchair.
Let's just say that I can't even imagine wearing mohair. In fact, I didn't know sweaters or anything else had ever been made from it. But I am, after all, here for an education.
I'm thinking that chair might be visible and identifiable in some of our old pictures from the early 50s. Can't do it today, but I'll remember to look for that next time I'm taking a deep dive into that stuff.
-
Access-a-Ride and Good Appointment vibes for DR Elmore!
-
I had a mohair V-neck sweater.
It was gold and made me feel like the cowardly lion.
-
Alas, no rapture for me.
-
But enough about my love life…
-
I’ve got electric boots, a mohair suit.
You know I read it in a magazine.
-
Today I learned mohair comes from Angora goats, and not, as I’d been led to believe, mo.
-
Well, as Maureen McGovern once sang, there’s got to be a morning after the night of the iguana.
-
George would recall Manhattan Transfer singing:
He's really down
And he's no clown (yeah, yeah)
He has the finest penthouse
I've ever seen in town (yeah, yeah)
And he's cute in his mohair suit
And he keeps his pockets full of spending loot (yeah, yeah)
Talk about the Golden Age of television entertainment.
For me, the memories of those years - let's say 1959-1963, give or take - are especially... um, special.
-
I thought it was interesting that Kimmel opened his show with a phrase that was used by Jack Paar after he had been banned from The Tonight Show for a few days in the early 60's....
"As I was saying......"
You couldn't PAY me to wear a mohair sweater.
Oh, God! I saw that photo and realized I had a light green and white mohair sweater in college. The shame of it!
-
J am back from my adventure, my first trip out of the building since June 30. I was absolutely terrified. Navigating those five steps from lobby to sidewalk with a folded walker is truly frightening. Both trips today involved huge Access-a-Ride buses and lifts from the street into the bus, but both drivers were kind, patient, friendly, and completely reliable, so that made it much better.
-
Then I got to Mt Sinai Hospital at East 98th Street, which is as much of a traffic nightmare as Lenox Hill Hospital at East 77th Street. But I really liked Dr Winston and his nurse Dakota. All went well, and I am happy to be home. Thatch greeted me at the door, then Stella appeared. Annabelle is sleeping somewhere, and I should see her about four hours from now.
Great that all went smoothly at the hospital.
DR Singdaw, I liked the gritty police vs cozy mystery cartoon :)
Sure. I guess I'll get left behind. I'll be in good company.
Wednesday afternoon greetings! Today is the first day since last Friday that I have NOT made a batch of caramel corn.
-
But I have 32 treat bags, each containing 2 cups of caramel corn, to be sold at Saturday’s fundraiser.
-
My high school wardrobe included a mint green mohair sweater.
-
I don't know what any of these sweaters felt like, either in having them on or just holding/feeling the thing. What I remember from that armchair or couch or whatever it was, was a rough, bristly feeling.
-
I'm thinking the sweaters and such probably did NOT feel like that chair, which was of course not long-hair or anything like that.
-
I've got an ASK BK!
What's a succinct way to explain to someone why standard movie theaters had no way of projecting a proper 1.37 or 1.33 picture in the years after the theaters had been retrofitted to show widescreen formats? I'm out of my depths here, but from reading posts on Home Theater Forum over the years, did it have to do with aperture plates and lens combinations? Am I getting warm?
Someone was asking about this, and wondered why they couldn't just "zoom in" the whole frame and employ masking? I'd love a short explanation that an intelligent layperson will understand, but I sure don't want to be spouting BS.
-
I'm up, I'm up - six and a half hours of sleep.
-
I'll be on my way in thirty-five minutes.
-
It's good to hear about DR Elmore's great A-a-R round trip and hospital appointment.
-
When they converted to the standard 1.85/scope screens, the screens were no longer tall enough to do Academy ratio. In order to do it you'd have to do what Coppola did with One from the Heart - print a 1.37 image in a 1.85 frame.
-
And then you'd have a tiny image, right? Kind of like window-boxing on a TV screen?
-
Exactly.
-
The things you can learn on HHW.
Good news from DR ELMORE.
WARNING, ALWAYS CHECK YOUR MEDS AT THE PHARMACY!
-
WARNING, ALWAYS CHECK YOUR MEDS AT THE PHARMACY!
Oh no! What happened?
-
Urgent care gave me a three day prescription to start until my labs were ready. Since they weren't good my primary got me a fairly quick appointment with a rheumatologist and sent my pharmacy a new script for the meds with a 30 day supply.
When I picked them up the pharmacist said that the dosage had been changed from 2 a day to 1 a day. That should absolutely not have happened.
Sure enough, my doctor kept the dosase the same. Some one made a mistake, either a typo when sent or when printed out.
At least the meds themselves are ok. I have had the wrong pills put in the bottle, once for me and once for a cat.
That's a good reason to be concerned. Good that you knew to check what the pharmacist said.
Sending off a card to my aunt, who turns 93 next week.
-
The last 3 years, months in advance, I've submitted a form to get the White House to send her a birthday greeting card, but they never followed through.
-
And I certainly don't want a card sent from the current occupant.
-
How does a penguin build its house?
-
Igloos it together.
So long, back house guy!
-
Some guy on television is saying that you shouldn't use the laundry detergent cap to measure out your detergent. He says you only need 2 tablespoons to do a full load, and if you're using more, it is not washing out fully and your clothes are not as clean as when you use less. He also says you should use the shortest cycle possible - 15 minutes, or, at the most, 30. Otherwise, it's too hard on your clothes.
