Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the riddle of when four is ten, and now it is time for you to post until the four and ten cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SHEEN!

Good morning, all!
-
I slept well and the cats behaved, which still surprises me.
-
I have no news this morning.
-
Good morning, all.
-
I haven’t, either.
I was up at dawn’s crack because I’m playing one song for somebody at a church service which fortunately is only 20 minutes away. Leaving in half an hour.
-
There’s a 2pm screening of Buster Keaton’s THE GENERAL at the Bedford Playhouse with live piano accompaniment that I’m planning to get to.
-
I guess that’s news.
-
And I should do a load of laundry this evening.
-
Okay, that’s it for me. I’m all newsed out.
-
Good morning, all.
-
The temperatures here are dropping a smidge at night, which is a blessed relief.
-
Book signing this afternoon at a winery. Don’t know how it will go.
-
Good morning, friends.

~~~BOOK SIGNING VIBES~~~ for DR John G.!!!!
-
I haz eaten a spoonful of peanut butter.
-
And I am content.
-
Making a list of books I want to read on my upcoming vacation.
-
Which includes the new Thursday Murder Club.
-
There’s a 2pm screening of Buster Keaton’s THE GENERAL at the Bedford Playhouse with live piano accompaniment that I’m planning to get to.
That should be fun.
-
I haz eaten a spoonful of peanut butter.
Didn’t Mary Poppins tell us that a spoonful of peanut butter helps the dog’s medicine go down?
-
Which includes the new Thursday Murder Club.
I’m low on the library list for that.
Break a leg at the book signing!
Have a great time, if you go!
Good morning.
-
I did some baking this morning: a dozen chocolate zucchini muffins, a dozen mini banana loaves, and two pumpkin breads.
The chocolate ones are round, because people eat round chocolate, and the banana are rectangles, because people like rectangular food.
-
We got soooo much stuff in our veggie boxes yesterday, so I'll make a veggie plate as well.
-
Book signing vibes for DR JOHN G.
Have fun.
-
It's time for four episodes of The Adventures of Superman.
I think they are starting the Noel Neill episodes....or they may have done that yesterday.
-
I've had a busy morning after the usual kitty cleanup and making the bed. I had to track down my full score for My Fair Lady, which I found, and then I had tofinish signing those 25 books and packing them into two cartons for Fed Ex to deliver to Florida. While I did all this, I listened to The New Christy Minstrels sing and play the score for Advance to the Rear.
-
I'm now listening to the 2nd disc of the new My Fair Lady recording. I like much of it, but I have a few quibbles.
-
It is interesting that PCPH was doing OKLAHOMA! at the time the full recording came out.
And next summer they will be doing....MY FAIR LADY.
-
Ah.....the last four episodes featuring Phyllis Coates are up today......
Soon we shall see the two part THE MOLE PEOPLE.
-
I'll make a veggie plate as well.
That reminds me, I think my house is going to be the most popular on all the block for the trick-or-treaters this year.
-
One might even go so far as to say that PCPH is the bellwether of all things classy and tasteful.
:)
Well, the plate LOOKS good, anyway.
-
singdaw, thanks for mentioning LYNLEY. We watched the first episode, and as far as procedural with seemingly mismatched detective teams go, it's quite well-done.
And of course, as seems necessary on BritBox, they did manage to get the leading man's shirt off in a way that it seemed integral to the plot, or at least integral to the target audience.
-
I mean, the plot dictated that he needed a shower, and who takes a shower with his shirt on?
-
I never would have expected this: Apparently, responding "Sure." to someone in a text is bad, though responding "Sure!" could be OK.
From the article:
"Is This The Worst 1-Word Text Message You Can Possibly Send?"
HuffPost
MONICA TORRES
"About a year ago, Isabel Steckel texted her 30-year-old older brother about hanging out the following afternoon. She received a one-word reply: “Sure.”
“If you’re bringing ‘sure’ attitude, then let’s not do it,” Steckel countered. “And he said, ‘lol,’ and I said, ‘I’m not kidding, lol.’”
This May, the New York City-based comedian shared a screenshot of this conversation on X, formerly Twitter, and received more than 11,000 likes. The “sure” haters rose up to share how answering “sure” sounds passive and dispiriting. A “sure” texter apologized in a reply for the violence he had “inflicted while trying to appear easy and breezy.”
This is only the latest entry in a perennial and continuously divisive debate over what “sure” really means. One Reddit user in the subreddit for “unpopular opinions” declared that the word “sure” is “synonymous with ‘yes’ and shouldn’t be associated with sarcasm and attitude,” while a commentator for the Outline wrote in 2018 that the word is “the most passive-aggressive affirmative phrase” that is “a thumbs up to your face, and a jerkoff motion behind your back.”
Clearly, we are not sure about what “sure” should mean.
Although the dictionary meaning of “sure” is affirmation and certainty, its meaning can be anything but certain but in a text conversation."
-
Back for a brief moment, in between playing the church gig and getting ready to head down to the Bedford Playhouse.
-
Guess what I just ate two bowls of. (Ending a sentence with a preposition.) (Which at least is better than ending it with a proposition.)
For those who guessed right, I'm sorry, there are no prizes.
Happy Sunday!!! On the new Broadway Radio Show, Tony Award nominated songwriter Benjamin Velez joins me to chat about bringing the delightful, heart-warming musical Real Women Have Curves to Broadway. While tackling issues like families, working women, immigration, body image, and generational differences, the show wrapped audiences in a big warm hug and put a huge smile on everyone's face.
The tuna pasta salad is still great, but I decided that in the future if I'm just making it for myself, I'll make half the quantity.
I'll use, say, half a pound of the pasta, and I'll still use a whole can of tuna - no problem having it richer - but half the onion, too, and it will keep easier for a few days without my shoveling it into the ol' pie hole so quickly.
BK - how in the HELL much of it did you make for the Do's, back when those were getting a huge crowd, like before the pandemic?
-
Why is it always bloodwork? Can’t it ever be bloodplay?
-
Never mind, I guess bloodplay is a thing in certain fetish communities.
Cranked up Brackenby’s Music Box, did ya?
A great song on there is “This ol’ riverboat,” which tells a story more compelling than the movie.
I'll make a veggie plate as well.
Remember moms and dads, check any cucumber slices your kids receive for razor blades.
Possible update of "Network" - "Bloodwork" on intrigue and power struggles in the medical testing industry.
IIRC, that was a Frank Rich shtick when "Network" was new - that a follow-up could be "Bridgework," a hard-hitting, slug-you-in-the-mouth look at the dental industry. (Frank Rich was the movie critic for the New York Post at the time the movie "Network" came out.)
-
Frank Rich didn't like the movie "Network" as much as most of the other movie critics did.
Actually, I just decided NOT to go watch a wonderful silent film today. I've been fighting allergies or maybe it's even a slight head cold, and today I'm just blowing my nose like crazy. No fun. Just not up to it today.
Will make pasta in ten minutes.
-
I'm up,, I'm up - nine and a half hours of continuous sleep - that's what I'M talkin' about.
Excellent!
-
ChasSmith, even for last year's Do I made the Do amount - two pounds of pasta, two cans of tuna, whole red onion, and double the mayo, BUT - after the pasta is cooked and drained, I put the pasta in two separate bowls and then make it as I always do.
-
159,912 posts! BK, at the rate you're posting, an exceptionally round 160,000 posts could be here by tomorrow -
Or earlier?
-
At the Do, people go through the first bowl in a couple of hours, usually, and then a put some of the second bowl into the first bowl and that usually goes, too. The rest I eat over the next couple of days. But in the glory days of twenty people or more, both bowls went.
-
I didn't even realize I was that close to an NNN (nice new number).
-
Happy Travis Kelce's birthday to those Taylor Swift fans who celebrate.
-
Whether or not anyone cares, it's a post. :)
-
All Rite Aids have closed. I predicted it was going that way three years ago - my local Rite Aid never had anything on the shelves. Only activity were prescriptions and ice cream. I will miss the latter's cherry chocolate chip. They used to have that in the cartons in the market but stupidly stop doing. Since the ice cream carton stuff will continue, bring back ALL the flavors. Of course, I remember resenting Rite Aid when they took over all the Thriftys.
-
Rite Aid didn't do the right thing?
-
From DR Singdaw:
Philly. Then it's a 2.5 hour car ride to the tip of New Jersey. The car service is outrageously expensive, but still a mite cheaper than renting a car for a week.
I did not expect it to be easy.
-
Did Rite Aid play the Rite of Spring in their stores?
It got to 86 degrees today, incredibly beautiful with little or no humidity. Tomorrow and Tuesday will be the same or just slightly lower.
Love it. And hate it. That's because I suffer from a chronic case of Good Weather Guilt -- not because I'm not out there "having fun", but because I'm not out there doing stuff I should be doing.
-
singdaw, thank you so much for the lovely review of my book!
Larry, I noticed (or really was reminded) that Randy Rainbow was in the 2019 Encores CALL ME MADAM. How did something like that come about? Was he just trying to get his Equity card?
I was the children's storyteller this morning at church.
I announced that this is Banned Books Week.
"What better way to celebrate Banned Books Week than to read a banned book to the children," I said.
I then read The Lorax by Dr. Suess.
I overacted and read it with great expression.
SHOCKING DR LAURA.
The day has been long.
-
After church, I went to pick up my friend Gail.
-
But there was road construction at the very exit I needed. It took 15 minutes to move around it.
-
Then the restaurant I wanted to eat at was closed.
-
Gail and I grabbed a bite at Dairy Queen. The Blizzards were excellent. The flavor of the month has both Reese’s cups and Oreos. Yum.
-
We finally got to the winery and set up shortly after the start. It was slow in the beginning, but we eventually sold all 17 copies they had.
-
The party featured arroz con pollo made in a huge paella pan. It was delicious.
-
The winery asked me back next week. So, I guess I am headed back.
-
we eventually sold all 17 copies they had.
That's great, John G! Congratulations!
-
The winery asked me back next week. So, I guess I am headed back.
Yay!
-
On the way back, we stopped for gelato and sorbetto. I got a mix of kiwi and strawberry. Gail got hazelnut. We were both happy.
-
Now watching a Disney film from yesterday: Escape from Witch Mountain. Reta Shaw, Donald Pleasance, Ray Milland and Eddie Albert star.
-
I saw Return to Witch Mountain at the Crown Theatre in downtown Crown Point, Indiana. One of the first movies I saw unaccompanied by grownups.
-
Saw it on tv a few years ago, and boy was it bad.
-
Saw it on tv a few years ago, and boy was it bad.
Escape from … was pretty bad too.
Good night, all.
Good night, John G!
