Well, you've read the notes, the notes came and went, like Grand Hotel, and now it is time for you to post until the coming and going cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SNARF!

From yesterday:
Congrats on Keith's 3-fer Wordle!
Wonderful beach pics, Singdaw! And the funny ones were pretty funny!

Good morning, all!

Amazon Fresh arrived about 15 minutes ago, and it is all put away. Stella and Annabelle are checking out all the scents, from packer and delivery folk to the tantalizing aromas of the contents, in and on the six paper bags.
-
I slept very well. I had my second dream this week in which a person asks me about my late friend Bruce Pomahac, and I tell the person that Bruce has died. I still miss him.
-
This morning I need to deal with home healthcare. I spoke to a rather obnoxious woman on Tuesday who fot me so bent out of shape that I hung up on her. A different woman called on Wednesday while I was in the basement with the laundry. She said she'd call back on Thursday around 11:00. She called around 1:00, and I was tied up with other matters. So, I'll call her today.
-
DR Rodzinski, I am truly sorry about Mrs R's predicament. Did I ever know what she did?
-
Good morning, all.
-
Once again, it feels like a Saturday here.
-
That's because everyone's here and we have an overnight guest (one of Nathan's family who's here from New Jersey for a couple of days), and people are doing things.
-
Last night DR John G. posted about a book he's reading, in which:
My home country, Bexar, is mentioned several times, and it’s mispronounced every time.
I figured you meant county, but I'd never heard of it and it's good to learn about this. The book sounds interesting. Is it?

More and more health vibes to BK!

It’s pretty good. It has the feel of a YA novel because it’s characters are young. But the writing is not simple.

Watched another Twilight Time disc last night, Enemy Mine (1985). I remember 1985 quite well, but I swear I never heard of that movie until they issued the Blu-ray in 2012. I watched it then but had remembered very little, so last night was like seeing it anew for the most part. I guess I'd say it's one of those I admire, but don't love. Definitely interesting in a few ways.
Later on TCM I came into the middle of, and sort of watched, Death on the Nile (1978) - bits and pieces of which I've seen, but I've never seen the movie straight through. I'm not enamored of it thus far, but it's a great cast and it gets high marks, so I should give it the benefit of a real watching sometime.
-
Slept both well and poorly. I had dreams in which I was asked to help with a volume of the Sherman Brothers lyrics. We were having troubles in figuring out how to organize the songs that were not tied to shows.

Waiting for the voting to start.

Mrs Rodz is in marketing for a textile company that makes fabrics that keep you warm. They had their own branded line of clothing for runners, cyclists, etc, but that part’s going away.
-
Enemy Mine was a cable tv staple for a few years. Yet I don’t think I ever saw it all.
-
Kitty cleanup is over. I need to take care of a couple of emails, then make the bed. Then deal with home healthcare.
-
Nice photos from DR singdaw yesterday.
-
Continued health vibes for MR BK.
-
I enjoyed the notes - I got mixed up and forgot about Frank Sinatra and The Naked Runner I was thinking of Cornel Wilde in The Naked Prey.
-
Friday.
The furnace is running.
I finally turned it up to 68 degrees.

The project I'd begun working on yesterday with my Newly Returned Downloading Powers is collecting the available piano performances, lectures, and other audio recordings of Arthur Loesser. (Sadly, I believe there's likely no actual film of him, but hope shall reign eternal.)
Looking through the albums posted on Discogs, there's way more of him than I'd thought. There were no studio releases I know of, so the albums listed are mostly various private pressings, and there's certainly some overlap among them. But I'm finding enough on YouTube so far to think that most of that is also going to be there for the downloading. I of course love having physical albums, so I might eventually get a few of those. I do still have the double LP album of the locally-pressed Bach French Suites and Italian Concerto I bought in the school bookstore upon arriving in Cleveland. But here's something odd -- it looks like no one's ever listed that on Discogs. Better check further, but maybe it'll be up to me to do the honors.
Anyway, it's wonderful hearing some of these downloads.

The Amazing Healthcare personnel are enough to make you a killer. I need a 2.5 hour assessment at home. They call and offer you one date and one of two times: 10:00am or 1:30pm. They have NO OTHER DATES! Take the date and time or they will have to begin the process with another phone call. I sdtest these people.
It's absolutely ridiculous. I just hung up on another one.

That is truly incredible. And outrageous.

From Bruce:
Got one of those weekly pill things, so from now on all pills go in there and that way my mind won't mess with me.
YAY!
-
Naked Prey certainly featured some near naked runners. That movie was a staple of WGN Chicago’s Family Classics movie program hosted by the late great Bozo ringmaster, Frazier Thomas.
Often the little song the African boy teaches Cornel Wilde runs through my head.
Trivia question: what song does Cornel teach the boy to sing?

I’m a big Kismet fan. And I love Grand Hotel. Magdalena is beautiful listening. The rest of the Wright-Forrest catalog not so much.
-
It’s raining! I hope it’s raining at my house.
-
Wow. It’s actually raining.
-
I've totally loved Kismet since discovering it at a tender age. I wish I could remember what made me first listen to it.
I'd say I love Grand Hotel, too, but I need to know it a lot better than I do. I gave a couple of the others a try at one point or another, and I have to share the general reaction to them.
-
I must have simply bought the Kismet recording, cold, after having seen it in the stores all the time, and just started listening. I soon bought the vocal score because I was crazy about the music. It was quite a bit later that I first listened to the original Borodin pieces.
I was still in high school in Fort Lauderdale, and I'm pretty sure I was very familiar with it by the time we were on one of our visits to Columbus. There, we saw a Kenley Players production with Gordon MacRae. My good friend Mr. Google says that would have been in 1966, which sounds about right.

Friday.
The furnace is running.
I finally turned it up to 68 degrees.
That's a good setting. I wish I could stick to it. My thermostats are old, and on the downstairs one, the actual temperature readout never did correspond with the setting, so it's basically guesswork and going by what feels right. I'm comfortable with what I THINK is 70 degrees, but I should get a good thermometer to test both floors with...and then try to be a little more thrifty if possible.

Friday afternoon greetings! I’m back from the book discussion, lunch with Sharon and Carolyn, and a couple of errands.

Tomorrow is AAUW Middletown’s 100th anniversary and we’re celebrating with a gala luncheon. Our local public library created an oral history video for us that dropped this morning:

I did finish it, but only by reading it faster than I’d have liked. It was a big hit with everyone.

LOL, DR Elmore, “the book club circuit” is kind of like “antifa” - it’s not really a thing but an idea. One thing you might do is make it known, maybe via Facebook, that you’re available for virtual visits (via Zoom or FaceTime, or conference call) with groups that choose to discuss the book.
-
That would be fun.

Yesterday MR BK was talking about the early 1950's revival of Golden Boy and mentioned the lively cast.
Also in the cast was Odets' wife Bettye Grayson as Lorna Moon the part created on Broadway by Frances Farmer - and played in the film version by Barbara Stanwyck.

You know, I have to smile - I've been trying to get my books into book clubs and libraries for twenty-five YEARS. Save for a handful of libraries it hasn't happened. The problem these days (it was much better when I began my writing journey) is that everyone has now written a book and a million books a year are published through Amazon and various print on demand companies - not to mention the major publishing houses. Everyone wants their book in a book club or library. And I am here to tell you that the ONLY way it happens is if a friend ushers you in and even THEN it hasn't happened, at least for me.
-
In other news, orange chicken was very good - smaller than usual half portion but that's fine.
-
Pills taken save for pill two and three of the three times a day one. I'll take the second pill at five-thirty.
-
You know, I did the pills in the pillbox thing. Great. When I got up, I had an English muffin so I could take the three pills right after.
-
Ate the muffin, forgot about the pills and didn't take them until an hour later. Go know.
-
I listed a couple of fun things, check 'em out.

Too lazy to do more today. Saving mail place for morning.

The pill box doesn't keep you from forgetting to take them at a certain time, but it definitely eliminates the "did I take it or didn't I?" problem. I could never keep mine straight without it.
