Well, you've read the notes, the notes noted it's December and therefore the holiday season, and now it is time for you to post until the holiday cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: UPBEAT!

The Zoom sounds like it was great!
BK, is there any way in the future, you could offer a couple of dates as I think you've done previously.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I slept really well. Annabelle abandoned her "princess" pillow (Thatch calls it that sarcastically) to sleep at the foot of the bed and my feet. She loved showing up at the Zoom. But that's because she thinks my cart I use to tote things about is her personal Disneyland ride. Since it was next to my computer table, she was right there, next to me, plannig to break into a Kritzerland show.
-
So, what a wonderful Zoom meeting! When I first joined HHW in 2004, BK used to host evenings like this rather regularly; that's how I met our late DR Danise and invited her to meet when she came to NYC on what turned out to be a rather cruel trip.
-
So that was DR MichaelG! I had absolutely no idea who that person was. I kept looking at our DR slingshot and thinking, he looks different; is it his hair? But, I haven't seen him personally since he came to NYC to sing backup with Rebecca Luker on a Victor Herbert song. And that was in 2010.

What was bad about Danise's trip to New York back then?
-
BK was a delightful host, and he kept the party sparkling and moving at a lovely clip. Before the Zoom, I had taken my pain meds, since I knew I'd nbe sitting on two bad hip joints for some time. Around 8:15 they started taking over, and I had to leave around 8:30, before I fell asleep at the keyboard. I was in bed before 9:00.

DR Danise came to NYC for a gathering of some SyFy/fantasy group she belonged to onlne, as I recall. She was an older lady who was sheltered, sweet, and very naive; she was not treated kindly by the younger smartass members of the group. So, when we met for dinner, she was feeling very abandoned and unhappy on what should hae been an exciting first trip to NYC.
-
I'm back to the ballet this morning; I want to look oper what I wrote yesterday and do some cleanup.
-
As for the TOD, I'll begin with the low spots:
my health and low income, Jan.-Nov., 2025
The high spots:
Annabelle & That published in August
Moonshine & Mistletoe finally released after eight years
The highest spots:
My friends in my apartment building and around the globe
HHW: a daily check-in with some of the best friends anyone could ask for. Thabk you, BK!

That's too bad. I wasn't on HHW yet in 2004 (though I was doing the trivia contests in BK's notes) I think I started as "FJL" in very late 2005 or 2006.
In later years in the 2000s, we'd have had some sort of gathering here, which we had several times over the years for a while.

So many lost too soon, so many lives cut short.

No; probably just that I'm a lot heavier now.

It could be a musical comedy devil, like Applegate in Damn Yankees. :)

Every extra millstone and its congratulations, and then the Thanks you for the congratulations, and even once in a while a few You're welcomes for the Thank you - that can be good for posts! :)

Good morning, all.
-
I slept really well last night.
-
To answer BK’s question about my missing the zoom: I have a standing engagement on Sunday nights that interfered with the timing. I’m sorry I missed all the fun.
-
The highlights of 2025:
—Being asked by a publisher to write and research a new book and all of the friends I made on the way
—The chance to get back to Maui for two weeks and having the peace and free time to finish the book
—Beginning to research the next book on Texas pies
-
I don’t need to dwell on the lows.
-
Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias is giving a free performance on Christmas Day as a fundraiser for the food bank. I’ve signed up to usher. Seems like a great idea. And by evening, I will need to work off all I have eaten.
-
I don’t need to dwell on the lows.
I wish I had your strength in that regard.
I tell myself that any of the "lows" can be valuable learning experiences when you try to understand how they happened.
-
As Florence sings in Chess:
"Never take a stranger's advice.
Never let a friend fool you twice."
-
I now believe that the song "Nobody's Side" is serving up painful life lessons in perfectly scanned, perfectly rhymed couplets. :)
-
In terms of writing, highs and lows
I'd include some of the HHW Amazon reviews of my new book as very real highs for the year.
Also, finally having one of my new parody videos go over 3,000 views after none going over 1,000 in a very long time. Gone are the years of 25,000 to 50,000 views and up, where it felt like it was going somewhere - but maybe there're just so many more YouTubers pushing parody these days.
Lowest Professional Low:
Finding out that former DR Julie Miller was actively involved since Dec. 2010 in the inheritance scam that my brother and his wife was doing, even while we were writing "Viva Max!" together.

Deleted post.

The pair of keets are very quiet this morning.
They may be plotting something.
-
I shall have to think about the TOD....
-
Good morning! It was great to see all the folks on Zoom yesterday.
-
I walked to the grocery store this morning. It was so cold out. I had to put on long pants.
-
DR MichaelG, it is nice of you to cut your hair to make your father happy. 101, wow!.
-
TOD: High points were
- Getting to sing in three humongous chorus operas this year: La sonnambula, Otello, and Samson et Dalila.
- Finally taking care of 30 years of deferred maintenance and getting our house remodeled.
- Seeing great shows like Love Life, Chess, and Ragtime in New York.
Low points? You can see those in the news every day, alas.
-
From Bruce,
On our visits to the grandparents from the time I was a really young boy, we passed that cemetery every time. We were told if we held our breath from the time was began passing by to the time we were past it, it would bring good luck. To this day, I always hold my breath until I'm past it.
I like that you still do this. Once we left California I stopped holding my breath past cemeteries.
-
Was holding your breath while passing a cemetery an L.A. or California thing, or did everyone do this?
-
From George,
But what if you have to stop at the cemetery?? :o
;D
-
The pair of keets are very quiet this morning.
They may be plotting something.
They're probably deciding what to give you for Christmas.
-
From Rodzinski,
The reason I tend to be in bed for these zoom things is because it’s where I can escape my kids.
Funny & cute :)

Freddie, you were part of HHW when Danise returned for our gathering, and you hosted us at the end of our Jose lead walking tour.
-
Yes, having "Caviar Dreams" be the big song exemplifies what's wrong with Queen of Versailles. Fortunately, the other early release from the cast album is "Pretty Wins." This is by far my favorite song from the score, sung by the most sympathetic character in the show, and the one I've warned DR ChasSmith to be ready for in auditions at some point. It starts off a bit slow but really builds.

An earlier trip. She had a wonderful time with us.

I'm up, I'm up - since 7:30 - only about five hours of sleep but couldn't fall back asleep. I'll go do banking and shipping in about twenty minutes and get that over with.

Highs were some amazing trips we took this year. Low is work uncertainty for Mrs R that now has us regretting taking those trips.

That's a big low. Sending more job vibes.

Not the damn morning I wanted or needed. More about that later, but I have no voice left because I've been using it rather vociferously since 10:30 and am still using it on the phone now.
-
Rehearsal in fifty minutes - haven't eaten a damn thing so can't take pills - and this is the big pill day. I don't want to eat some crackers and take the pills, which means I don't eat or take pills until three when food will arrive.
-
Monday afternoon greetings! It was great to visit with all who could attend last night’s Zoom. Might we do it again some time for some general HHW chitchat?

More vibes for Mrs. R's employment situation.

Today I attended my Current Events Club holiday luncheon at the Presbyterian church near our old house. Our entertainment was Purple Pizazz, the show choir from Middletown High School.

I was thinking the same last night. It had been too long. We should do it occasionally just to have the get-together.

<-- I almost got out that fez to put on last night. I'll try to do it next time.

Front and center was the daughter of my friend Suzy and granddaughter of our friend Sam. She’s clearly the “Cassie” of the group - talk about command presence!

Yay, BK! Let’s pretend we’re all back in New York gathered ‘round a table at Joe Allen or Barrymore’s.

BK, thanks for sending the video of the Zoom. I'm enjoying it so much.

No; probably just that I'm a lot heavier now.
singdaw, it's a really good look on the Zoom screen, though!
-
Larry, you come across so well on Zoom with the cats dropping by every now and then - that I wonder if you found a friend in the business to do a Zoom interview with you about "Annabelle and Thatch," and you could just link to the video whenever you're pushing the book. No one would have to know that the video is self-produced.
-
Loved hearing the stories behind the books and TV shows, BK!
-
I agree with Jrand about the hair, MichaelG!

Well, Jen just left after fiddling with my printer, purchased a year ago on October 31, and I believe it is dead. And to add insult to injury, I did not purchase a 3-year warranty. My body is falling apart but I'm too goddamned healthy for home healthcare, now my printer is dead and I hae no money to buy another. All I need now is the fucking choir to sing "End of a perfect day."
-
She's hoping it's the power cable, so she's checking for another and I'll hear from her tomorrow. I hate my life.

Ann had that idea back in August when the book came out, but, while she's a good lady, she follows through very little. It never happened, and when I start pushing things, they're screwed.

It started snowing about half an hour ago, it is expected to continue until 4 a.m.
Three to four inches predicted.....time will tell.

DR FREDDIE that could be the case - I'll let you know if they ask for my Visa card.

2025 did not begin well with my nephew having to evacuate and my brother on constant alert to possibly evacuate. Ten months later my nephew was finally able to return home which is a highlight of the year.
-
April, with our trip to Cairo and seeing the pyramids, followed by Istanbul and our hot air balloon ride in Capadocia.
-
We had one last trip from my bucket list to a remote area. Our last chance to do a remote area before feeling we shouldn't be doing these anymore. We planned a wonderful trip with close friends to Patagonia in November. They only booked the trip because of us. To our relieve they loved it and were very glad they went. I would have felt terrible having to back out and then then didn't think it was all that great.
Alas, the odds of us ever going there now are extremely slim. I've pulled it off of my bucket list. Of course I had to stay home and focus on improving my health.
-
The year isn't ending well with losses of friends and major concerns about the health of a few loved ones. Missing a trip to Patagonia pales in comparison.
-
I am grateful that I feel ok and that Keith is also ok.
-
The high point of our year definitely is the birth of our grandson George in May.

That is a wonderful highlight.

The other day I opened Richard and Me to begin reading it, and then when I couldn't stop sneezing I decided to read something I didn't care if I missed a bit of it.
Instead, appropriate for the day, I am reading Miracle Cure by Harlan Coben published in 1991. It is a murder mystery involving a clinic working on a cure for Aids and the evil people who don't want this to happen.

I think I have seen Remember the Night before. It’s not perfect, but the leads are mighty fine.

The Zoom gathering sounded like fun. Unfortunately I find group video chats stressful since I really can't hear what is being said.

I have started my first Andy Warhol film, or at least I think it’s my first: Blood for Dracula. The recently deceased Udo Kier is Dracula. It’s dated in its depiction of women wanting an abusive man to keep them in line.

Well, today was a day. ::)
-
The three new appliances dor my mom's rental property were delivered today!
-
HOWEVER...the refrigerator was too wide for the alcove that the original fridge was in! :o
-
The installers installed the dishwasher and the oven and they work!
-
But they had to take back the new fridge and my mom will get a refund.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
They tell a tale.
-
The tale is not stale.
-
You won't bail.
-
You may eat kale.
-
Or read your mail.
-
They had already put the old fridge in the truck, so I had to ask them to leave it, which they did...but they only left it in the garage...which is fine.
-
But it won't be a fail.
-
Maybe a Holy Grail.
-
May result in hail.
-
Or use a hammer and a nail.
-
Put on tanning lotion if you'r pale.
-
Shoot a quail.
-
Travel by rail.
-
RUPERT'S SEVENTH DANCE OF THE PAGES!!
-
Attend a sale.
-
Leave behind a trail.
-
Loudly wail.
-
My mom and I went to Home Depot this evening, and she ordered s new fridge that was two inches narrower than the space (which was measured correctly the first time!), and that will be delivered next Monday.
-
Before that (and after the two appliances were installed), we went to the Red Wind Casino and had dinner...and I won some money!! :D
-
My mom gave me $100 for helping her with everything, so I took $20 and promptly lost it...like you do.
-
Then I went to another machine and lost another $20. ::)
-
But then I won $47!
-
I'm now $7 ahead!
