Well, you've read the notes, the notes were rehearsed twice, and now it is time for you to post until the rehearsed twice cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: TENACIOUS!
-
The sad news keeps coming. First Gordon Goodwin, he of the Big Phat Band and a tremendous force in jazz education, died of pancreatic cancer. Now Jubilant Sykes, a baritone who sang the Celebrant wonderfully in Marin Alsop's recording of the Bernstein Mass, has been stabbed to death. RIP to both of them.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Sad news about Jubilant Sykes.
-
I slept well until midnight. I spent the next five hours dealing with three chilled kitties and a horrible round of neuropathy in my feet and ankles. Last night Stella finally decided that her Amazon carton was not keeping her warm, and she spent a good amount of time cuddled up next to me.
-
I have a cart of trash and recyclables to go to the basement. When my daily tidy-up is over, I need to create an Amazon Fresh order.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Bad night of sleep. Dreams about working on the new cast recording of Ragtime.
-
I need to get moving. High school special ed today.
-
Have fun DR jOHN G.
-
Rain all day here.....then snow.
-
Waiting for my home health aide to arrived.
I think it's blood pressure and some other stuff and lots of questioons.
Then I shall be on the way to the getting place.

14 more shopping days!
This is from Moonshine & Mistletoe, the holiday musical I wrote with DJ Salisbury. I think it was the 2010 New York City Gay Men's Chorus holiday concert that the Chorus sang my suite of Appalachian Carols I had written around 1984 for my father, who was born in Fallsburg KY, just outside the county seat, Louisa, KY. Several months after the 2010 concert, DJ Salisbury, a stage director who grew up in Louisa, KY, called me out of the blue. He thought there might be a show in the Appalachian Carols. I wasn't so sure, but I loved working with DJ, and I'm very proud of our show.
Only three of the five carols in the suite made it into the show. This is one of them. Happy Holidays!

Non-stop rain forecast here into Friday. Luckily we live on a hill. I think that should help. Who knows though?

DR singdaw do you have a lot of work because now you have to set everyone up with what they wanted before the December 7 deadline?
How are all of your new hires doing?

I’m on my decongestant, but I have a raspy cough.

Damn that cedar pollen.

More feel-better vibes, John G.

Our rain has finally stopped. Hopefully there hasn't been any flooding near us. I don't think so. The news reports & photos I have seen have been in other areas.

It’s not a classroom. It’s called a bridge and the students come and go if they need to decompress.
-
Interesting.

I look forward to hearing more about your day.

Wednesday afternoon greetings! We’d planned to go out to finish up our Christmas shopping today, but it’s rainy, windy, and cold. We’re going to put up our Christmas tree instead.

Specifically K-Pop Demon Hunters and Soda Pop.

I vacuumed and steam mopped the fellowship room. So that took all morning.

All of the K-Pop Demon Hunters songs are hardwired into my skull.

You’re all I can think of

Or Stephen King’s The Mist.

Otherwise, I’d be pissed.

Page turn.

That was a particularly fun page turn!

I have discovered something horrible today. If not being able to put on a pair of long pants means that I can no longer dress myself, then . . . I can no longer dress myself. Short pants are easy, but as of 10:00 a.m. this morning, long pans are a thing of my past.

Do you need to get a different size?
Or maybe elastic waist pants?

It all has to do with the leg and my leg.
-
Then, I took the trash to the basement around 1:30. As I got off the elevator on the third floor a little before 2:00, I thought I heard a high-pitched ringing; ut lasted maybe three seconds, then there was a pause of 3-5 seconds before it rang again. It was not loud, but my fear was someone's smoke detector was going off. I called 911, and ten minutes laterI spoke to three firemen who confirmed there was an alarm ringing somewhere in the building. I guess everything is uder control since we've not been ordered to evacuate.

Was Jubilant Sykes the Celebrant in the televised Ravinia performance?
No, that was Paulo Szot. He was good but I would have loved to have seen Jubilant Sykes do it.

-
DR John, did you enjoy your day?
-
LOL.
I wore short pants for a couple of days this week.
-
My question for ASK BK DAY is did you ever meet Wes Stern and discuss your screen similarity?
-
And - no hot water. Can't shower, can't shave - Grant's coming to see if he can restart the pilot light, but why it would have gone out right at this time is anyone's guess. I have to leave in an hour. I can certainly shave at the club, but not shower.
-
Pilot light is lit - but now it'll take fifteen or twenty minutes to heat up. Not sure I'm gonna be able to shave here, but as long as I can take a quick shower and get out of here by four-fifteen I should be okay and I'll shave after sound check.
-
LOL.
I wore short pants for a couple of days this week.
I wear short pants to the gym. Today I wasn't cold for the first time in a couple of weeks.
-
Good evening!
-
Managed to shave - water isn't ice cold - not warm exactly, but not hugely cold. I'll wait five more minutes and attempt to do a quick shower, mostly to shampoo.
-
Glad you can get it done at home.

With the rain last night I never checked for a view of the boat parade. A neighbor today told me it had been cancelled last night, due to too much debris floating down the river She said that she saw a tree the size of a boat.
We have seen debri like that in past years, just not at this time of year.
-
If it remains clear tonight I will try to remember to look out of the window.
-
I forgot to mention that Keith got Wordle in two.

Congrats to Keith!

Why indeed would a pilot light go out?

DR singdaw do you have a lot of work because now you have to set everyone up with what they wanted before the December 7 deadline?
How are all of your new hires doing?
New hires are doing great!
Dec 7 is a Medicare deadline, but we are dealing with regular insurance, so 12/15 deadline for 1/1 coverage and a 1/15 deadline for 2/1 coverage.
-
Oh dear. I guess I forgot to log out this morning.

And now it is night.

Funny how that works.

Trying out a new device that you wrap around your throat. It heats and massages. I’m not impressed with the massage part, but I am liking the heat.
-
A lull. ::)
-
I better post something, so here's something from yesterday:
Thanks for all the vibes about my glasses. I went back to Home Depot today and looked through their lost and found...and the cleaned out lost and found that was literally just about to be thrown away(!), but my glasses weren't anywhere. :(
-
So, I can only assume that either someone found them and took them, or they got run over and thrown away. :-\
-
The old glasses that I'm using now are good enough, but I also have several pairs of older frames that I can get new lenses put in.
-
I got the lost pair at Costco, so they should still have my latest prescription.
-
I'm gonna post a bunch of pics, so here we go. ;D
-
Here a view of Seattle from David's apartment building's balcony (not his personal balcony):
-
We went to local (but to me, slightly pretentious) pizza place for dinner before the show, but on our way to the theater, we passed Voodoo Donuts!
-
Sadly, we didn't stop in. There will be a next time!
-
Here's the theater marquee:
-
Here's where our tickets were!
-
But before the show started (I would've waited until after it started), we moved to two empty seats and got this close!
-
However, in both locations, tall people were directly in front to me, so I would've been leaning around a head in either location. :P But it wasn't too bad...the closer seats were still great seats.
-
I did not take any pictures during the show.
-
After the show, we walked to a different bus terminal and saw this:
-
As well as this:
-
Then while waiting for the tram? Bus? Transport vehicle? I forget the exact term, we sat across the road from this mural:
-
We got back to his place, then went out for more food and then I left and came home and went to sleep. :)
-
PAGE SIX DANCE!!
-
Today, I put up a new light fixture in my living room.
-
This was the old one (after removal):
-
And this is the new one after installation:
-
And here it is with the light on:
-
Of course, here's a wide shot with the lights off:
-
And the lights on:
-
And finally (yes, it's the last one), from the kitchen looking out to my back slider door:
-
I got it from Wayfair (https://www.wayfair.com/home/pdp/astoria-grand-alam-glass-flush-mount-157-w110429177.html). I made a list and at one point had about 40 "semi-flush mount" fixtures in it.
-
It took me about two months to go through the list, add things, take things out, and eventually I just decided I liked this one enough and bought it.
-
So far, Shelly likes it, and everyone that I've show pictures to has liked it, also.
-
But I didn't ask anyone's opinion before I put it up...it was all my decision with no imput. :D
-
And now, for something completely different:
Here's a touching tidbit on the recording of Jimmy Durante's narration of Frosty the Snowman:
https://youtube.com/shorts/XVOotIY3XTo (https://youtube.com/shorts/XVOotIY3XTo)
-
And here's how Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was written:
https://youtube.com/shorts/fSS9-amgXGI (https://youtube.com/shorts/fSS9-amgXGI)
-
Thanks for the Ragtime link yesterday, John!
-
And the Ethel Merman singing to Rudolph link, too!
