I needed a bathroom break this morning. It was around 5:20, and the alarm was set for 6:00. I decided to turn off the alarm and sleep a bit more. I c uddled with Annabelle, then Thatch showed up, and then I woke up. It was nearly 7:15.

I slept much longer than I intended, and now I'm about 90 minutes behind my plans for the day, which include a trip to the basement  and mailboxes, and work on the ballet. I'm still working out the shape of the movement I'm writing,  but I have tgo get something on paper.

I think my favorite opening night was in 1993 at Putnam County Playhouse.

The Jason Donovan London version of Joseph/Technicolor Dreamcoat had come out the year before. It was the first recording to feature the MegaMix.

Of course it wasn't yet included in the rental materials. I talked to my musical director and gave her a copy of the recording and she arranged it.

I decided that the actor playing Joseph would come in during the Narrator's first song in street clothes holding ticket and looking for his seat. The Narrator invited him up onstage, tore his ticket and then he joined in to sing and dance inn the song.

It was the first time we really used the turntable....so as Jacob & Sons began, Joseph left the stage and all the brothers ran on as they sang their names....and then Joseph came out in costume and the show started.

Jrand - You're right! I'm surprised the finale reprising just abut everything wasn't included on the 1981 cast recording of JOSEPH.

What's mentioned in the Times review of the 1981 production seems like the early version of a Megamix.
"Even with an unnecessary intermission, the evening still runs less than 90 minutes, which gives the company time to reprise the score as a finale."

Favorite opening night was the national tour of The Tap Dance Kid. There was an after party with the stars, including the legendary Harold Nicholas and then young Dule Hill as well as original cast member Martine Allard. I was in heaven spending time with them.

Jerry Zaks directed a reworking of the show, but the rewrite didn’t help. Great score, timid book. Timid because the novel it was based on had a surprisingly ugly ending. Willie doesn’t do what his father wants. He knows he can be a big star, and he becomes one. And he proceeds to rub it in his dad’s face for the rest of their lives. The make-nice ending of the musical fell flat.

Young Catherine has some fine acting from Vanessa Redgrave and Christopher Plummer, but Marthe Keller is her usual lame self and Julia Ormond is not interesting.

Back from performance two, supposedly going to be only thirty-five people there - there were fifty-five, a fine house. Like most second performances, rhythm was off, pauses were back, cues not picked up, and some sloppy opgraphy. Not many big laughs in act one, but there were in act two - all the numbers got a good reaction.

Interesting DR FREDDIE I only had the OBC JOSEPH cassette and there was no finale on it.

And there was no Megamix in the rental materials - although it's certainly there now.

There was this 5-minute many-song finale which they showed on the 1982 Tony Awards show.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dr8MIcE7Hz4

Very cool, Freddie!  Thanks for posting it!

It breaks my heart to hear the threats against Greenland.  Our trip there was one of most amazing trips ever, even with me breaking my elbow.  I just shared this photo on Facebook.
