Well, you've read the notes, you're feeling ever so Jewish, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're answering the four questions, and then eating some Mootzo.
-
And the word of the day is: CHUTZPAH!

And the word of the day is: CHUTZPAH!
And then there's the song "Hootspa" from the musical MAYOR (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005Y8VM/qid=1144826666/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/102-4779504-7364131?s=music&v=glance&n=5174) by Charles Strouse, who was the "Strouse" on Kritzerland's very own CD, Strouse, Schwartz and Schwartz (http://www.kritzerland.com/SSS.html) (but there wasn't a song from Mayor on that CD).
-
Well, I will be gone most of the day, today. There is a tour of Oklahoma! that's playing here in Olympia and I'll be working backstage with the wardrobe people. It'll be fun...and a very long day. As Jose says, "Laters!"
;D

I guess I wasn't the only one who couldn't access this here website this morning.
-
Question for BK (and all):
Do you have a favorite novelization of a movie or a play?
I don't think I've read one since THE EYES OF LAURA MARS, which I do recall being an excellant read. I don't remember the author's name, though.
-
Yes, I think we were off the air for sometime this morning.
-
I guess I wasn't the only one who couldn't access this here website this morning.
I just got in and, so far, only been able to read the first half of the notes.
-
Good morning!
Nice day here with temps going into the high 70s. I feel a walk coming on!
-
I had no trouble accessing the notes this morning but couldn't get anywhere near the forum. Kept getting a "Too many connections" error message. Tried for 45 minutes and then just went to other sites to browse and play.
-
That IDOL results show is an (unending) hour tonight, so I'll record that and watch other things.
Due to IDOL's length, BONES has been preempted for the evening. I have VERONICA MARS and SCRUBS from last night I can watch at some point today, and it may be during the 8 p.m. hour waiting for LOST to come on.
-
I'm thinking I'll pick back up with ANGEL's Season 3 discs now. Seeing that there's nothing coming out on DVD next week that is of interest to me, I'll be able to get through some boxed sets over the next week or so.
-
And now, I guess I'll go down to start prepping lunch and bring in the mail.
WBBL.
-
My favorite novelization was, believe it or not, the novelization of the film HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS.
-
CP-LOL your bachelor life is a bit different from Keith’s style, he keeps a perfectly neat house when I’m away. I know this because for weeks after I return he tells me how nice the house looked while I was gone. ;D Fortunately I am needed home to do the laundry.
-
It must be Mercury squaring to Pluto and the full moon moving into Libra.
-
From DRLaura:
Cilla, it is my belief that pets can smell the vet's office on one another.
I have found cats to be even more sensitive about this. If they didn’t settle down within a couple of days, if possible, I found bathing them all at the same time solved the problem.
-
Dan (the man), my favourite novelization of a movie or play is my own for my film DRAGONHEART. It is actually more a novel than a novelization because I tried to write a real book and not one of those 150 page we-put-the-screenplay-in-past-tense jobs. It also is in many ways vastly different than the film, because I was able to take out crap that had gotten put in that I didn't want and restored things that had gotten taken out. I worked from seven different drafts of the script. I also just came up with lots of scenes and inspirations that weren't in any version of the screenplay.
The great luxury of writing the novel was that I realized I didn't have to stop a scene after three or four pages and that I could go on. I could also just luxuriate in the language and prose. It was fun to crawl inside various characters' head and do a chapter or scene from their point-of-view, oft times a rather minor character. I got to see the galleys and correct any stylistic touch of mine that might have gotten changed. It was the greatest writing experience of my life. The book is the definitive version of Dragonheart. It did very well in the market, going into five printings and making me a considerable chunk of change. It probably would have done even better had the movie done better at the box-office.
-
DakotaCelt does Enger speak as beautifully as he writes?
I read about the making of the movie, Billy Bob Thornton to star & one of the producers is Brad Pitt-interesting. Note there isn’t any mention filming has begun.
-
DR JANE you are correct....after looking closely and checking some pics on the net....Blue Moon IS an Alaskan Malamute.
-
Haven't read the DRAGONHEART novel.....hmmmm....but I thought I bought it online after a previous discussion. Maybe I didn't win the auction.
Novelization.....hmmmm..... I will have to see some other DR's choices.
My question for ASK BK day.....what is the real English translation of those Italian credits such as With the Special Participation of....and how the hell do you "Guest Star" in a movie?
-
Actually, Jane, the public ares of the house do stay rather neat. And even the private ones for that matter, I just don't get obssessive about immediately doing the dishes or picking up a few dirty sox. But if someone called and said they were coming over to the house, I could have it looking immaculate in about fifteen minutes.
What I like best about being a bachelor for the nonce is not having to consider anyone else's schedule but mine.
-
CP the novel BRAVEHEART might have done better if people had known it was better than the movie.
Now I'm in the mood to read the book again.
-
JRand- ;D
So what is the long version of how Blue Moon came into your life. What was her previous name?
-
Oh, and how much does Blue Moon weigh?
-
For some reason i cannot seem to access the end of yesterday's posts that i did not read yet. :( (too many users message).
-
Well she lived down the street about six blocks. I always noticed her because she was tied to a tree in the front yard. A couple of months ago a package was delivered to our house and it was for some people down the street. I walked down there to take it to them.
I had to pass her house and she just watched me. Didn't bark, did strain her leash or anything, just watched.
A little more than a week ago, my sister Molly found her running in the street. My nephew said he knew where she lived, but her tags and collar were missing. They took her home and found out her name was Moon....
The people living there said they had a new dog now and had just let her run loose because they didn't want her anymore. Molly took her home. But she has two dogs already...Sophie and Barney.
Moon....who got Blue added to her name because of her color.....lived in Molly's garage for about five days while we tried to find a home for her. But then finally on Saturday we decided she needed to come and live with us. We bought her a 4x12 run and a new dog house and she moved in.
She comes in from time to time - but she is mostly outside.
-
My guess....since she won't be going to the vet for a week or so - is that she weighs between 70 and 80 pounds. She is a BIG dog!!!
-
Last night at WalMart there was a DVD-double set of CABARET (2003 anniversary edition) and VICTOR/VICTORIA in the old WB cardboard keepcases. But the set was only $7.44. Since I had the movies on VHS and not DVD, I bought them.....
Now I have them in WIDESCREEN and 5.1 stereo....I especially like the musical numbers in V/V in their proper ratio.
-
Four cups of wine tonight...
-
And one for Matzoh!
-
Of all mornings for the site to be down, I woke up very early coughing and gagging. Finally I decided I needed to get out of the bedroom so Keith might get some sleep. I brewed some nice hot tea and sat down to the computer.
It is 9:05 & I can’t post the above-So who are all these people here this morning that we have “too many connections” ::)
-
Why is tonight different from any other night?
I watched Part Two of the new Ten Commandments and I liked the way Doo-Gray played Moses....sorry that I missed the 10 plagues....well not sorry I missed the 10 plagues....but you know what I mean....
-
A Kimmel-hora dance in honor of Pesach and page 2.

Must be the aliens or the mysterians, DR JANE. 8)

JRand Echo was supposed to have been, at least, that big. I think that is a nice size.
How is she adjusting? Do you have someplace where she can run?
-
Jane, the movie DRAGONHEART may have done better if people hadn't confused it with BRAVEHEART too. But I suspect it would have done better if we had just had had a director who had an ounce of poetry in his soul and actually knew how to direct.
-
The host must have had some major problem because we are not supposed to ever be down because of overload, given that I am now paying double what I was for tons more space.
-
I guess I'll have to drop them a line.
Don't know where the "guest star" thing came from, other than making it seem like someone is doing something special. And I think that that participation thing is an exact translation if I remember the Eyetalian correctly.
I don't think I've read many novelizations of movies - Dragonheart I enjoyed, but I cannot remember another. Weird.
-
CP that startled me, never found them confusing. The key word Dragon made it easy, especially with Sean Connery as the dragon (I liked him).
-
It must be Mercury squaring to Pluto and the full moon moving into Libra.
DRJRand55, I thought you said the full moon was in the library.
-
I was unable to log on this morning, then I had to step out. when I returned, the entire internet was down so I had to call Time warner and report all this nonsense. Everything seems to be fine now, but I think it's sunspots causing it.
On a good note, I just spoke to my Father, who is doing much better today, and his fever is gone. One of my brothers stayed all night with him in hospital and said that it was a very restless night. I'll be glad when he's released.
I'll try to post DR Maria's photo of the brunch again. Let's see if it takes.
-
Nope!
-
Hi Elmore, glad you dad is doing well!
-
Re: last night's IDOL.
I actually liked Paris, although she looked so different and grown-up. But I thought she did well and kept me entertained.
My favorite was Kellie. I was really quite impressed. And that spotlight on her was downright chilling.
I also really liked elliot.
I don't care for bucky. ANd i don't like the fact that he made Queen night country. I would rather see people sing the style of the night (like what kellie did).
I also liked katharine.
I think bucky and ace have to be in the bottom.
-
Tonight is AMAZING RACE at 8pm! Yeah. But i think i will tape it since i go see little niece megan. ANd she was quite distracting last week.
Also, apparently this summer's BIG BROTHER will be an all-star show with 20 former members. And the viewers get to vote 12 or so into the house.
-
Heard from our host - they had a "flood against their server" which means they got majorly spammed by someone overseas - someone who has nothing better to do than flood servers and cause problems. I think you know what my wish is for those people.
Also, I believe the photo problem has been fixed - when they switched us over to the bigger, better server they forgot to flip a switch or something. Someone try to post a photo and let's see if it works.
-
Wednesday greetings! I tried and tried to log on here before leaving for work at 10am EDT. Glad to see that things seem to be working again. Here's a "test" post of a photo:
-
Ask and you shall receive, BK! (Actually, I was posting as you were and the timing worked out - don't you love when that happens?)
-
Well, we're photo-enabled again. Hallelujah, brothers and sisters!
-
I think I'm going to attempt a jog right now, as I won't have time later. Then I think I'm going to attempt to smooth out yesterday's writing and perhaps write another page or three, perhaps even try to finish scene one of the first act. At some point this afternoon, Vinnie is coming over to install some software and set up a program that will enable me to save my entire hard drive onto a mini-drive I just bought.
-
But, Jane, you referred to it as Braveheart in an earlier post...my post was making a joke about it.
-
Aha!
Here is DR MARIA's photo of DR JOSE, her nibs, DR ELMORE & Little Andy. ;D
-
Yes DR JANE - Blue Moon is let out into the backyard several times a day to run and play....sometimes alone and sometimes with her new humans.
-
Damn first picture worked, second picture didn't.
-
Bruce, when I spoke about Drowsy Chaperone last week and you asked about the ballet I think I was confused and mentioned the Toledo Suprise production number. I think you were talking about the Monkey Ballet at the beginning of the second act. Yes, that number is still in the show and yes, it's the weakest thing in the show. It should either be cut completely or trimmed drastically. I do find the opening part funny but it goes on far too long even with the monkey costumes.
I saw the show again last night so it came to me as I was watching Monkey, Monkey, Monkey that I misspoke last week.
-
Hmmm....tried to post it again and it said the file name is taken....but the picture didn't show up the first time.
-
Apparently they are still working on Drowsy. I saw the show with a friend and he took the 104 Bus home. He got on at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue and when the bus got to 46th Street and 8th Avenue who should board but Miss Georgia Engel who plays Mrs. Tottendale. My friend, who will talk to anyone, approached her and told her how much we enjoyed the show and her. My friend also knows Edward Hibbert who plays Underling the Butler of Mrs. Tottendale. They spoke about the show and Engel talked about how they are rehearsing full days and doing the show each night. The show opens May 1st and they will be rehearsing for most of the time up until opening. The show last night was noticeably tighter and funnier so the extra work is paying off. Now if they just cut some of those Monkeyshines.
The most suprising thing, according to David, is that a Broadway performer takes the BUS to go home!
-
Great news about your Dad, Larry - continued vibes.
-
Oh, pish, tush. Let's move to Page 3
-
There! That's better.
-
But, Jane, you referred to it as Braveheart in an earlier post...my post was making a joke about it.
ROTFLOL- :-[. I'll blame it on my cold and lack of sleep.
-
JRand have you thought about taking up jogging? :)
Moon is very lucky to have found a new caring home. I have very strong negative feelings about people like her previous family.
-
From DRLaura:I have found cats to be even more sensitive about this. If they didn’t settle down within a couple of days, if possible, I found bathing them all at the same time solved the problem.
Oh there is that, but they've both been to the vet so many times, that it isn't much of an issue. Nilla was just acting much different, not blocking Callie out as much, not hogging all my attention and Callie was sort of pushing the limits a bit to see what she could do. No fighting or hissing, just what seems to be a very calculated attempt to put herself in control. It's quite interesting to see the dynamic.
Today I woke up and Nilla was on the bed where he usually ends up. I think things are getting back to normal, but he isn't the same. His pain is gone and his personality is a bit different.
-
Back from jogging - maybe it was because my mind was atwitter with play ideas, but the jog was much easier than it's been and I never felt like I was going to die.
-
Well, I think MY personality would change if I woke up without teeth, too! ;-)
-
Jane, the movie DRAGONHEART may have done better if people hadn't confused it with BRAVEHEART too. But I suspect it would have done better if we had just had had a director who had an ounce of poetry in his soul and actually knew how to direct.
CP don't think I've ever mentioned it, but I loved the movie DRAGONHEART. I didn't know there was a book. I did buy the movie poster at a fundraising auction years ago.
-
Moon is very lucky to have found a new caring home. I have very strong negative feelings about people like her previous family.
I was going to say the same thing...how could someone just let the dog loose! That is horrible! I am glad you have given Blue Moon a good home!
-
I was going to say the same thing...how could someone just let the dog loose! That is horrible! I am glad you have given Blue Moon a good home!
I agree with you, it's terrible to just let a dog loose because you don't want it anymore. Good grief. A pet is a commitment
-
Well, I think MY personality would change if I woke up without teeth, too! ;-)
LOL Agreed! I keep saying it's like the Abominable Snowman in Rudolph. He does have a few teeth left but not many. He seems quite relieved but a little confused, as you would expect.
-
I am very happy. Due to all the extra time I put in getting ready for my eBay guy and my trial, I will be able to take a 4 day weekend! Hoo and Ray! I am hoping to get all the rest of the boxes that are still sitting around put away and finally be settled. I can't wait
-
Well, better go. I have to get some work done.
-
I'm home...under the weather, as it were (headache, sore throat, chills)...but I'm slept out.
Turned on the TV and Meredith Vieira is doing "Who Wants to be A Millionaire" and the question for $250,000 was:
Who, among the following, is not among a select few who have a Tony, an Emmy, a Grammy and an Oscar?
a. Audrey Hepburn
b. Mel Brooks
c. Marvin Hamlisch
d. Julie Andrews
Have fun with it...and I'll post the answer "anon"...
-
Cillaliz you can still find the book through used dealers.
Our Bosco had most of her teeth pulled & it didn’t make a bit of difference on her personality, but then she was feisty to begin with.
We had another cat who had a huge personality change after he was neutered. I know much could be said about that, but we really suspect he had a reaction to the anesthetist.
Word check always tells me I should type the dog or cat “that” not “who”. I find it a bit upsetting to think of them as “that’s”. ;D
-
Mel Brooks?
-
Are we allowed to answer online or are we suppose to IM you?

I hd the same guess Jane

Re: last night's "American Idol"
I was most impressed with Kellie...her vocal was fine, but SHE was stunning...totally beautiful in a way that tells me she has an unlimited, ENORMOUS future ahead of her. I don't think I've seen anyone as photogenic as Kellie looked last nigt in decades...possibly since Marilyn Monroe. She was dazzlingly beautiful, IMO
I, too, thought Elliot's vocal was terrific. Ace wasn't bad...he gave much, much more than I expected from him.
Chris was good....but honestly, does anyone want to see him in concert doing one number after another in the same way...with the pulsating lights and the vocals that sound akin to a ram bleating? That last comment pertains to his vibrato, which sounds so much like bleating as to give me the giggles when he uses it too much.
Bucky was okay. Paris was okay. Didn't care for Katherine.
And I hated Taylor. Just can't stand him. I agreed with Simon in almost every assessment.
-
I got the Too many connections all morning and finally gave up./ I then got quite busy here atr the office and have just come back, caught up and all is well with the world!
-
As I work at the computer, I'm listening to PASSIONS, the world's most moronic soap, an insult to Catholic doctrine, continuity, logic, timelines and screenwriting. I haven't caught it for a while, and today "Sister Whitney" - I thought nuns' names were changed to a religious one! - is visiting with God or a fraud who's materilaized in the chapel. She has to do penance for her incestuous pregnancy. I'm not making this up. God is played by an actor with the fruitiest reverberating, godawful voice, and I guess they're heading into a DaVinci Code ripoff. This show was funny four years ago when closet doors were gateways to hell and houses sank into the ground. Now it's pathetic.
-
Mel Brooks?
No...but I thought it might be him, too.
-
A British Jew is waiting in line to be knighted by the Queen.
He is to kneel in front of her and recite a sentence in Latin when she taps him on the shoulders with her sword. However, when his turn comes, he panics in the excitement of the moment and forgets the Latin. Then, thinking fast, he recites the only other sentence he knows in a foreign language, which he remembers from the Passover Seder.....
"Ma nishtana ha layla ha zeh mi kol ha laylot."
Puzzled, Her Majesty turns to her advisor and whispers,
"Why is this knight different from all other knights?"
-
Are we allowed to answer online or are we suppose to IM you?
Online.
-
No...but I thought it might be him, too.
The it must be Audrey
-
Ron, feel better. I’m home nursing a cold, got lucky and missed the headache & chills part. If the weather were nicer I might brave the world. Keith opened the door to leave & smoke from the neighbors burning whatever filled my lungs, giving me another good reason to stay inside.
-
What happened to all those hainsies/kimlets who were so upset they couldn't post photographs? Let's have the photographs already!
-

Actually, that's pretty darned funny.

You already said your guess was the same as Jane's.
One guess per customer please. :D
And no, it wasn't Audrey. :-*
-
So...now that it's down to Mel and Julie, I won't be saying Yes or No after more guesses...until I'm ready to name the person.
-
I didn't have any pictures I just had to post, but I was concerned that we might not be able to post any more.
That said, here's one for the fun of it:
-
Elmo!! I'm so happy to get the news about your dad!! Breathe, boy! Breathe!
Blue Moon puppy hoorays for finding such a good home. Kismet...
And a Happy Passover, Yids!
-
The O'Toole/Chips ad was one I bid on, and won, on EBay. Sadly, what I got wasn't this ad at all but another one, which I returned and got a refund on.
I don't know what all the reviews say, but they're all raves for O'Toole's performance as Mr. Chips and it was an ad submitted to the trades "For consideration..." at Oscar nominating time.
-
Glad to see the HHW NY Branch photo finally make its appearance! I'll try another one just for fun. This is DR Maria at the American Girl Store in NY where Felicity is playing non-stop. How could I resist?
-
OOOOHHH! I got the Page four dance!!!
Yesterday I was offered the part of Mama in "...in the absence of spring..." in a very prestigious reading series up in Seattle - the dates just work out so perfectly, it was a meant-to-be kinda thing. Between the time I get back to the Seattle area and the time I leave again two weeks later for my nephew's wedding down here! Love them readings! Two (occasionally 3) rehearsals and two performances, and DONE - under a week. It's a good play, by a real up-and-comer in NY - the guy who did the Boarding School version of Romeo and Juliet off-B'way that ran for more than a year. This play is about 7 people who lost loved ones in the Lockerbie crash... their difficulties after 7 years with coming to closure. Mama is such a great character!!!! Best of all, they just ASKED me to do it, didn't even have to audition!!! Ah, like the old days...
-
Maria! At last!!! SUCCESS!!!!!
-
Penny - Congrats on the role. And so great just to be asked!
-

Yes, he does... He is also quite a bit of wit. Very intelligent man. I enjoy chatting with him.

One guess per customer please. :D
Then it has to be my second guess and I won't go there. :)
-
JR - Wonderful that you took Bluemoon. How people can just let an animal loose because they don't want it anymore is beyond me.
I'm off to mail a few things, return some library books and then back to writing.
Happy Passover to all who celebrate!
-
DR Jane - Peace Like a River was one of the books in the running for this year's Big Read (To Kill a Mockingbird was selected). Maybe I'll read PLaR and we can talk about it in October!
-
Okay...it wasn't Mel Brooks, either.
That's right.
The answer...Julie Andrews.
I thought it was Audrey Hepburn (who knew she had a Grammy????)
-
Jane, the movie DRAGONHEART may have done better if people hadn't confused it with BRAVEHEART too. But I suspect it would have done better if we had just had had a director who had an ounce of poetry in his soul and actually knew how to direct.
I did not see the connection. I kept thinking Dragonriders of Pern with Dragonheart being a forerunner to it.
You did a great job with the story!
-
CP that startled me, never found them confusing. The key word Dragon made it easy, especially with Sean Connery as the dragon (I liked him).
So did I Jane!! I really enjoyed the movie.. They, who got confused, evidently dont get out much...
-
Thanks Dakota. Can you find out what happened to the new book he was working on?
Ginny we don’t have to wait until October, you can email me.
-
JRand have you thought about taking up jogging? :)
Moon is very lucky to have found a new caring home. I have very strong negative feelings about people like her previous family.
I agree.
What bugs me is college students who live in the apartments near campus and they get kittens and puppies during the year when they are living there and when they move at the end of the school year, they often abandon them.
It disgusts me.

And no, it wasn't Audrey. :-*
I misunderstood, I thought you were telling me was wrong!

Congrats Penny!!
Lovely pictures of the HHW gathering in NYC
-
Dakota I have heard that about college students and find it shocking. I suppose their parents won't let them take their pets home, but then they must have know so before they got the pets.
-
Bruce I attempted to post a photo of the mountains behind Penny’s cabin. I think it was too large. I’ll try something smaller.
-
Congrats to DR Penny!!! Wish I could be there to see you perform!

Well of course it was too large... mountains are BIG!! Try a picture of a molehill instead! ;D ;D :-*
-
Okay...it wasn't Mel Brooks, either.
That's right.
The answer...Julie Andrews.
I thought it was Audrey Hepburn (who knew she had a Grammy????)
I was just gonna say that!!!!
okay..... no I wasn't........
-
This is a test to see if I can post.
-
I was pretty sure it was Julie for I know she has won at least two of them and I took a wild guess on the third one.
-
Jane I sent you a message....
-
Here is JRand's Dog Blue Moon (that is if this posted correctly!)
-
Dakota I'm glad you see you posted, I was locked out again after my test post.
-
And it did, Woohoo! Is'nt that dog a beauty!!
-
Instead of a phot.....
-
Julie Andrews has never won a Tony which I have bitched about on this forum on several occasions.
-
Well she lived down the street about six blocks. I always noticed her because she was tied to a tree in the front yard. A couple of months ago a package was delivered to our house and it was for some people down the street. I walked down there to take it to them.
You must use this as the opening paragraph of your next story for The New Yorker (and it must not be about a dog!)
-
Well, I managed to screw up the recording of LOVELY TO LOOK AT this afternoon, so I'll have to wait for it to come around again to record it. The restored videotape will have to do me until that time.
Truth be told, the Technicolor on the tape is much richer than the color on the TCM transfer. It's sharper, naturally, than the tape, but that restored color on the tape is eye popping.
-
I spent the afternoon watching ANGEL episodes. I saw five in all and now have only two left from Season 3. Wesley has aliented the gang. Connor has returned from the hell dimension and grown into a rebellious teenager. Cordelia's Gru is growing increasingly jealous of her feelings for Angel. And Lorne is as funny and endearing as ever.
-
So, when I go back to TV, I have SCRUBS and VERONICA MARS from last night.
-
The vote at USATODAY is that Ace will go home tonight. Bucky is the other one with overwhelmingly negative karma.
-
I haven't read many novelizations of films. One that I did read and disliked intensely was THE STING. They changed the names of some of the main characters, and it was much less entertaining than David Ward's witty and inventive screenplay.
-
LOL DR DtM - it does sound like an interesting story, doesn't it?
-
Thanks for posting the pic DRMBARNUM.
-
Test photo.
-
Ah ha! Wonder how the seder preparations are coming along?
DRJANE....jogging is NOT my thing....LOL
-
DR JRand - Blue Moon is a beautiful dog! Does she like listening to Annette?
-
DR JRand - Blue Moon is a beautiful dog! Does she like listening to Annette?
LOL....as a matter of fact....she fancies herself quite a singer and will join in when any music is being played.

Good news from DR ELMORE!
-
I'm off to see THE DROWSY CHAPERONE with Alex Rybeck. I will meet DRs Jose and William F Orr as soon as I know where they've decided on dinner. I am looking forward to the show!

Alex Rybeck has been playing piano in my car, on Faith Prince's Leap of Faith CD. Please tell him how much I've enjoyed it! And Hugs for DRs Jose and WFO (& Joe), and for you, too, dear DR Elmore.
-
Have fun, theatre-goers and diners!
I watched CAPOTE this afternoon and though PSH did a very good job. He seemed to be Truman....the one I remember mostly from talk show appearances....usually three sheets to the wind and nearly incoherent....
I also remember the splash that IN COLD BLOOD made when it was published and how amazed I was at the book itself.
-
LOL....as a matter of fact....she fancies herself quite a singer and will join in when any music is being played.
Funny, that's what DR Elmore says about me!
-
Have a grand time Vixmom and my regards to them both!
It's Elmore that's meeting up with them...not me!

Well, if you left right now and got all the green lights...

Well, if you left right now and got all the green lights...
True, true... and since so many people took halfdays because of Passover... I could be there in time for dinner!!!
-
LOL....as a matter of fact....she fancies herself quite a singer and will join in when any music is being played.
LOL These dogs prefer to howl then to bark.
-
It's Elmore that's meeting up with them...not me!
I am sorry, I thought you were going also... Mea Culpa! :-)
-
JRand did you get the name of Blue Moon’s vet-if they had one?
-
LOL These dogs prefer to howl then to bark.
Very true... A freind's relative in Northern MN trains dogs for sledracing and many of them are either huskies or malamutes or a mix. One day we were sitting in the kitchen and one gal leanedout the window and howled softly and the dogs started howling...
The tourists on the other side of the lake were all excited when they heard the 'wolves"
-
To answer an earlier question;
Novelization adaptations: Centennial even though I hated how they did the last part....
I also liked Steel Magnolias, Dragonheart

Heading down now to get a head start on cleaning the den.

My missing pic from the other day.
Ex house mates of DiT: Villiam and Valter.
Villiam lived with OzDerek.
OzDerek's sister shall be visiting us next week.
-
How sad. She was so young, and in the hospital for such a long time.
-
Just the other day I was thinking of OzDerek and missing him.
-
there is so much food in my home environment it's not even funny. Tammy, Lauren, and I did the shopping, which took quite some time. Tammy began her pot roast and then went back to work, and Lauren is here doing things. I'm going to try and write the end of the scene I'm in, but it's a bit difficult to concentrate, frankly. Vinnie should be here within the hour to configure my new portable hard drive. Oh, boy.
-
sounds like bk has his hands full...
-
but it's a bit difficult to concentrate, frankly.
Because of all the food or the young ladies?
-
It smells good around here. Tammy's not here, and Lauren is cooking and talking on her cell phone - that's what makes it difficult to concentrate. I've finished Act One Scene One and have begun Act One Scene Two, which is a short, simple little comic scene - sort of a bridging scene - I wonder if I should even call it a scene. What do you all think? Also, I've been offered a copy of Richard Rodgers' book Musical Stages, inscribed by Mr. Rodgers to Goddard Lieberson. Very tempting but pricey - I might try to work out a trade for it.

I can smell the food wafting all the way over to Dakota....
Have a splendid meal and a good Seder..
-
Bruce, call it a transition.
JRand - Oh, what a little beauty Blue Moon is!!! You both lucked out!!!
Elmo - have a swell time tonight!
Yids!!! Have a wonderful seder!
And thanks to all DR's for the congrats. I'm so very happy about it.
-
PS - Bruce - politely ask the young lady to take the phone calls in the garden... with the door closed... and then come back in and cook delicious Kosher Komestibles for your pleasure!!
-
Penny - add my "Congrats" to the list! When will you be performing in Seattle?
A week from tomorrow is when I'm doing the Grantseeking for Individuals in the Arts workshop - yikes, I'm on a steep learning curve. Back to the PowerPoint!
-
Penny what are you doing tonight? I'm just nursing this cold, sure could use some matzos ball soup. I should have made some. There are times when I really miss have a deli around.
-
LOL-I must be desperate, I don't normally care for deli soup.
-
My work day is at an end. Bye for now.
-
I was updating my info on my ITUNES list and I came across two songs by Skip Kennon (other than Last Starfighter)
I Shut the Door (Lyrics by Michael Korie) from the musical Blanco
I Almost Cry (Lyrics By Ellen Fitzhugh) from the musical Big Blonde
Can DR FJL give us a little more background to them?
-
DR PennyO CONGRATS!!!! That's great. Especially to be asked and not audition.
-
Julie Andrews
-
Continued healing vibes to DR Elmore's dad.
-
Nilla update. He's almost himself tonight. He sort of let me give him his antibiotic tonight. There was only minimal skwirming (did I spell that right?)
-
I just got a call from the people who invite me to their Seder every year -- and didn't this year. Turns out that for the first time in decades, they're going to someone else's Seder. Whewww! I was starting to get paranoid. The other place I'm usually invited has had a recent death in the family. And you'd have to threaten me with something that really really hurt to have me host a Seder. Sooo, it's the Wonderdog and I asking each other The Four Questions. (His full name, after all, is Abraham.) I purchased some vegetable Sushi and matzo. May add Jujubes to complete the menu. Perhaps wash it down with a glass of Kosher wine. And we'll have dog biscuits, of course.
Later I'll watch and tape the second showing of this week's SOPRANOS. Missed the first while in NY. Then Wonderdog and I will sing traditional Jewish songs of the season and dance the Horah.
A full evening of festivities.
-
So what's the proper greeting for Passover? Is it Happy Passover? that sounds a bit strange mixed with the bitter herbs and the suffering of the slaves. Whatever it is.....I wish that to those who observe it.
-
Do you say good seder?
-
Cillaliz, both work.
-
So what's the proper greeting for Passover? Is it Happy Passover? that sounds a bit strange mixed with the bitter herbs and the suffering of the slaves.
"Happy Passover" is fine, CL. I agree it's strange. But, really, the definition of Jewish holidays is "Suffer, suffer some more, then eat." The variation being, "Suffer, suffer some more, then fast, THEN eat."
-
Passover is really a time of celebration, and remembering the suffering that came before. It’s a good holiday, then I never had to give up anything. My family wasn’t strict about the diet and I loved peanut butter & jelly on matzos sandwiches. By the end of Passover many of my friends were really complaining about their matzos lunches. I kindly offered to trade my sandwich with them. To give them credit no one took me up on my offer.
I do remember Penny beginning the holiday with the best intentions and breaking them by the end.
Penny do you remember the picnic we went on with Tex and the cake? ;D
-
I just stopped sneezing and my eyes aren't watering. I hope this lasts.
-
Tnanks DR PENNYO - your news was not so shabby either!
DRJANE we didn't get a vett name, but our vet already knows he has a new patient that he will be seeing in a week or so.
-
Did any DR buy the POLICE WOMAN first season DVD? I don't remember if someone wrote about it.....sorry if you did.
But $40.....of course I have spent MORE for LESS!!
-
Watching the Amazing Race and waiting for Seder bulletins.
-
Thanks for the info. So Happy Passover and Good Seder!
-
I alnmost forgot to turn on TAR but luckily only missed about 15 minutes of it.
-
DRJANE we didn't get a vett name, but our vet already knows he has a new patient that he will be seeing in a week or so.
It would be nice if you could save Blue Moon from double vaccinations. It wouldn't hurt economically either.
-
Well, looks like it's Callie's turn to go to the vet. She has a lump on her lip. I noticed it a few days ago, but didn't really get a good look at it.
-
When it rains it pours. Good vibes for Callie.
-
Good vibes for Callie~
-
How long does passover last?
-
Cilla, we had 70 here today..
-
OK, here's the recipe I promised last night that I'd post this morning. However, I was unable to log on until after my noontime program at work and didn't have it with me:
Beef & Mushroom Casserole
2 lbs. beef stew meat, cut in 1" cubes
1 pkg. Lipton's Onion Soup Mix
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 C. sherry wine
Fresh mushrooms, sliced
Mix all ingredients, except the sliced mushrooms, in a baking dish. Spread sliced mushrooms over the top. Cover and bake at 325o for 3 hours. Serve over noodles.
-
It was in the 80s today and is supposed to be 87 tomorrow. Looking forward to a nice weekend 70s mostly and some thunderstorms. I can't wait for a little time off without a major work project looming
-
LOL we may have a stray thunderstorm....is that like a stray cat or a stray dog?
-
She is very healthy and I would think looking at her she is up to date with her shots, etc. We shall see.....
-
Predicting 79 for us tomorrow which is OKAY!! Of course it is a work day for me.
Where is the seder update?
-
TAR good again this week....and the previews look even better for next week....which they should.
Watching a bit of the American Idol elimination show.....
-
Thanks for the Callie vibes. I really don't think it's anything serious, but what do I know. I don't want to let it slide just in case.
-
TAR good again this week....and the previews look even better for next week....which they should.
Watching a bit of the American Idol elimination show.....
I agree about TAR. Thought it was a lot better not knowing who would be last until close to the end. Can't say I'm sorry about who it was
-
Well, I think tonight I really will get ice cream. I've been talking about it for days, but have been eating yogurt instead. It's time to take a walk on the Dairy Queen side.
-
I should also check the old house. I haven't been there for over a week. I keep thinking if I just forget about it I'll get a call that it sold. Yeah right.
-
Love the K-9 Advatix commercial that has the grey Shar pei puppy!
-
The first two nights are Seder nights, after that it has been so long since I’ve paid attention I wasn’t sure if it was seven days or more, so I did a bit of research and found conflicting information.
“Pesach lasts for seven days (eight days outside of Israel).”
“On the first night of Pesach (first two nights for traditional Jews outside Israel), we have a seder”
For more info: http://www.jewfaq.org/holidaya.htm
I never knew there was a “fast of the first born”
-
When does Charlton Heston come over?
-
We're starting at seven.
-
Have a nice time.
-
We're starting at seven.
So Tammy and Lauren must be in the throes of finalizing the feast!
Passover blessings to all.
-
JRand now we can post photos I’m expecting more of Blue Moon.
Think I’ll go read for awhile.
‘night.
-
Passover blessings to all
-
Yes, Passover blessings from this goy to all of my Jewish friends on HHW!
I'm baaaaack! If any of you DRs are making another October trek to Manhattan, I suggest you order tickets for THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, which I adored, admired, and wished I'd been involved with. It's one of the smartest and silliest pieces I've ever seen. I'm going to buy another ticket and see it again. Soon.
-
I'm up from a little nap....the mattress warmer was extra-kind since my feet have been cold all day.
I caught "Altered States" on the crappy AMC channel today (AMC used to be such a terrific channel -- it's totally in the crapper now, though).
It was pan/scan, as is the norm for them these days, but it was the first look I'd had at the film since the mid-80s.
It works rather well, still....Hurt and Brown are terrific.
What I remembered about Charles Haid's character was that he was a shouting bastard who tried to suppress the truth about Hurt's findings because he didn't want the truth to be known.
The truth is, he was a shouting bastard who continued to support Hurt's findings even when he didn't want to believe those findings... to the extent that he was always there when Hurt needed him.
I'm thinking now that Haid was given his head and was allowed to chew the scenery for all he was worth. It's most distracting, although when he and Bob Balaban are going at each other, it now seems funny...and not a little endearing.
John Corigliano's score is more amazing than I remembered.
-
Penny - add my "Congrats" to the list! When will you be performing in Seattle?
A week from tomorrow is when I'm doing the Grantseeking for Individuals in the Arts workshop - yikes, I'm on a steep learning curve. Back to the PowerPoint!
Readings are on Sunday, May 14 and Monday May 16. Sunday matinee, Mon. eve - whatever those actual dates are... might be 13 and 14?
You'll do fine in the Grantseeking workshop - those folks are just floundering. ANY info that you give them is a great success!
-
Cilla! wow, another kitty with a mouth issue! Poor little thing. How is Nilla doing after such a hard weekend?
Elmo! I love even the name of the Drowsy Chaperone. I pretend I've been involved with a project called The Blithering Uncle.
Hi, Maria!
-
Gonna go read a book... back later, to say goodnight.
-
Oh dear, oh dear, Rodzinski is back. Hoping to avoid the sharpening blades of the new-and-improved Bitchslapping Machine 3000.
Well, where have I been, you might rightly ask? And the answer is more who has been here than where I have been. I've had COMPANY. And they ran me ragged, then work got hot, etc. And the thing I find is I hate to dive into this HHW until I'm caught up, and every day you miss, by gum, you miss a lot, so I just want to give vibes to all my friends here and hope that everyone is making it through. I've definitely missed the gang here.
Bitchslap me softly!
-
Originally, I wrote,"Bitch slap me softly," but it didn't look quite right.
-

::: twap :::
Nice to see you back on board Rodz... Life does have a way throwing curves in well-laid plans.
-
Now here's a funny story HHWers may appreciate. Another thing that has kept me busy is I am directing a 10-minute play that a friend of mine wrote for a night of plays around the theme of Hamlet.
So I needed three women, and the writer had one girl in mind, then we cast a mutual friend, and we needed one more, so we went with a recommendation from another member of the theatre group. Well, I met the girl, and she seemed nice enough, and she spoke of having worked at MTI, so I say, "Hey, you might know my friend Jason." And she did know him.
Yesterday, I speak to Jason and ask him about her, and it turns out who is this girl, but the CARROT-EATING GIRL we used to read about right here at HHW!!!
-
Thanks Dakotacelt, my Dakotan friend. Sorry the Sioux didn't win the Frozen Four. :(
-
Aha!
Here is DR MARIA's photo of DR JOSE, her nibs, DR ELMORE & Little Andy. ;D
Well, I see that elmore has moved right in on Little Andy. I guess Jose will have to start preparing his home for a possible visitor from Oregon this fall!
-
A mixed bag of blessings, congratulations, sympathetic and healing vibes and general well wishes to those with two legs and four.
(I don't think the HHW family has any three and one legged members but just in case - blessing to them as well).
And welcome back Rodzinski!
-
And what arrived for me in today's mail??? Out of nowhere a fine set of answer songs and sequel songs from Mr. Tomovoz, my musical benefactor!
Thank you once again, kind sir. I had only just been listening to "I Shot Mr. Lee" the Bobettes strange sequel to "Mr. Lee," and sequel songs had been on my mind. Impeccable timing.
-
Kentucky spring fever has hit the critters, Tewkes and Mosby.
-
DR RODZINSKI is in the house....and on such a day...why is tonight different from any other night?
-
What a charming photo, DR CP!
And yes, DRJANE, more Blue photos will be forthcoming after the work weekend ends.
-
Pogue, did you make it to a Reds game yet? They had success vs my Pirates, but the battlin' Bucs will be back!
-

Something in the stars?
-
Thanks Dakotacelt, my Dakotan friend. Sorry the Sioux didn't win the Frozen Four. :(
Nice to see ya back... Yes i was disappointed that the Sioux did not win, they were not even expected to get as far as they did for this is a rebuilding year... THere is always next year!
-
Such is the sequence of events DR Rodzinski.
I have many many more!!!
Those were the lesser=known or harder to find ones.
Bear Family brought out 3 wonderful discs - mostly of Country songs though.
-
Kentucky spring fever has hit the critters, Tewkes and Mosby.
They look so incredibly relaxed. Is Mosby the dog? Is he a mini-Schnauzer?
-
DR JRand will no doubt be familiar with "Tall Paul" and "Short Mort".
-
Trivia!
People remember "Daddy's Home" but not that it is a sequel!
"Second Hand Rose" and "Rose Of Washington Square" are related!
In the land of OZ, Damita Jo's "I'll be there" was a top 40 hit. Ben E King's "Stand by Me" did not chart!
-
Intro lyrics link the following songs by the Drifters:
Up On The Roof
Under The Boardwalk
Sand in My Shoes
-
As fate would further have it, I bought a 5-LP (for $5) set from the Salvation Army shop last week. It was a set Roulette put out in 1964 of hits (and non-hits) from the late 50s to 1964. 10 songs on every LP side, so lots I hadn't heard.
One is called "Walking With Mr. Lee," but I don't know if that has anything to do with the Bobette's Mr. Lee.
-
Some of the sequel songs are so lame they're hilarious.
Like the Esquires have the song "Get On Up."
Their folllow-up is called "And Get Away" and it's basically the same song as "Get On Up" except they add the lyric "And Get Away"!
-
I think "Walking with Mr Lee" is an instrumental. I know I have it somewhere.
-
Had a lovely evening of TV. First up was a MURDER SHE WROTE rerun. This one featured Vera Miles, Martin Milner, and John Beck, among others as suspects and victim. Always enjoyable.
-
Question: Anyone remember a movie called Starman?
-
I like "Sand in My Shoes," which I just heard for the first time. It takes part of the "Boardwalk" chorus to create the melancholy effect of looking back on better days.
-
The sequel (?) to instrumental hit "Topsy II" was of course "Turvy II".
There were some shockers!
-
Just glad you didn't completely desert us, DR Rodzinski. It was great to have DR TPunk back the other night, and it's great to see you tonight. Welcome back.
-
2. DR. Tomovoz, Does Australia revert to normal time the same time the US goes on Daylight SAvings Time?
BTW, Tom, my cousin Rhoda and her hubby fell in love with Oz and New Zealand!
-
"The boardwalk's deserted..."
-
Next was last night's VERONICA MARS. Good show with some great retracings of the season-long mystery via nightmares Veronica was having. Helped me put the season in great perspective.
-
Then watched a funny SCRUBS episode from last night. SCRUBS has not done especially great in the ratings this year, but I've read that if NBC cancels it, ABC will pick it up pronto (the show is actually produced by Disney/Touchstone, a parent of ABC).
-
3. What are your favorite books to read?
-
With changed from Daylight Savings last week. Usually it is a week or so earlier. As with the USA, not all States adopt Daylight Savings.
NZ is God's own country!! That's why he gave it to the Hobbits I guess.
-
LOST had an intriguing episode with a nice backstory and some interesting occurrences. And "Henry Gale" continues to be an enigmatic, chilling character.
-

I have heard that also MattH...
Also the sick rumour of them REMOTE possibility of ABD picking up Days... IMHO, that would be a wild hair.
-
Never would Rodzinski desert the spaceship HHW, MattH.
Maybe you can clarify something for me. I remember John Astin was originally the cop in Cabot Cove, and I seem to recall when he left the show (I think to be on some sitcom or something) on his final episode HE actually turned out to be the murderer. Do I remember that correctly?
If you haven't seen that episode yet, please disregard the question.
-
And I was so proud of myself for guessing the identity of the murderer on THE EVIDENCE. By about 20 minutes in, I had it solved.
-

Thanks for the clarification Tom. My cousin plans on visiting again next year. This time they really do want to make it to Brisbane... THey had amost wonderful time in Melbourne and Sydney. They really enjoyed the hospitality of the Australians!!
-
I have the "Topsy" 45 and am not sure why Part 2 was favored over Part 1!
You think he might have rectified the situation with "Turvy" but no!
-
4. If you were an actor and you got to be a guest star on that show, what show?
For me it would be CSI: NY or Grey's Anatomy
-

If you haven't seen that episode yet, please disregard the question.
He was actually a real estate agent early in the run and was in several episodes as Harry Pierce trying to turn Cabot Cove into a tourist attraction. Later on, when Amos Tupper (Tom Bosley) decided to retire, Harry took on the job, and he was indeed the murderer in that episode which, of course, was the last time he was seen on the show. Amos' retirement only lasted that one episode.
-
Very interesting, MattH, so my memory was partially correct. I thought he had more time as a cop though.
-
To sleep perchance to dream...
Be well, folks!
-
As for the IDOL results show, first let me say I DESPISE these hour length shows. Tonight, though, I didn't want to speed through it quite as much as usual because I wanted to see the tributes to each of the finalists. They were all very touching and brings such humanity to each of them. They seem to be a bunch of really nice people.
Once again, I was bitterly disappointed in one of the bottom three singers. This singer did not deserve to be there, and once again, I helped keep him/her from elimination by constant phone calls. The one who was eliminated tonight deserved to be gone, and I shed no tears for this performer. This person actually should have gone a couple of weeks ago.
And I think the other one I haven't yet referred to in the bottom three will be gone next week unless a miracle can be pulled off. Of course, doing those song standard should give all of the singers an ample chance to show off REAL singing. I'm looking forward to their choices.
-
Very interesting, MattH, so my memory was partially correct. I thought he had more time as a cop though.
No, just that one time as the sheriff. He was on several other episodes, of course, but not as a policeman. Ron Masak played the sheriff after Tom Bosley left the series.
-
DakotaCelt - I loved STARMAN
-
I went to Dairy Queen tonight, planning on a simple sundae and what did I see as a special.....Banana Cream Pie Blizzards!!!!! All I have to say about that is ...YUM

COMPANY? You mean Dean Jones and Elaine Stritch have been at your house?

Oh, my! It's after midnight here! I need to get to bed myself.
Good night, all!

Well, I think I'm going to call it a night and go read a little more of To Kill A Mockingbird. I haven't read it in years and am really enjoying it. I've recently seen both the play and the movie, but the book has a lot more in it.
April 22 is the big shindig with "Scout" and the showing of the movie on the big screen at the Orpheum. I've only seen it on my TV, so that should be pretty cool .

Oh please let it be Bucky or Ace that got the boot...

The movie was good but I think the book was better...

Rodzinski, I only watched the Reds whup the Pirates on the telly, but what kind of wins? 11 to 9 and such. The Reds better find some pitching pretty soon unless they're expecting to score a dozen runs each game.
I did take in the local single A minor league team, The Lexington Legends, the other night. Great box seats right behind the visitors doughout. It was a great night for baseball and the Legends won.

Rodzinski, "Sand in My Shoes" was kind of a standard for Bobby Short. He had a few versions, I believe, on a couple of albums.
DakotaCelt, Tewkesbury is the dog. He's a mutt but probably has a good dose of schnauzer in him as well as either Yorkie or Silky or some kind of terrier. I have no idea where is white plume of a tail comes from.
Mosby is the Cat, alternately known as The Grey Ghost. You're probably far too young to remember the TV show about Civil War Confederate Raider, John Mosby, who was also known as the Grey Ghost, played by Tod Andrews. There was a theme song that went: "Grey Ghost is what they called him, John Mosby was his name."
The Cat, before he was named, was dubbed the Grey Ghost by me for his habit of stealthy, startling appearances and so Mosby folllowed as a moniker. "Grey Ghost is what they called him, Cat Mosby was his name!" "Cat Mosby" is what they actually had on his records at my old vet and what the vet always called him. He usually called around here Mo, Moto, Mighty Mo. Or "you ornery bugger". The dog is Tewkes, Tewke, Tewker. Or just, "you shit-brained woogie."

Passover was fun. Guests are gone, and I've cleaned up and the first batch of dishes is in the washer. Tammy is lying on my couch like so much fish, where she has been passed out for the last hour. A little too much pre-dinner wine on an empty stomach, methinks. I suppose I'll have to awken her at some point soon.

Guess I should not have shortend (not even Bobbied) the title.. "I've Got Sand in My Shoes" by the Drifters was written as a follow up by the writers of "Under the Boardwalk". Not the same song as sung by Polly Bergen, Helen Morgan et al. Nor, I guess, the song by Dido.

Cp, he is a lovely dog...
Mosby then is very fitting for your cat...
Tewkes sounds elegant!
