Listening to what is the most amazing performance of the Khatchaturian piano concerto I've ever heard. I didn't know it at all and it just showed up on YouTube. I'm not always for these older pre-tape mono things, but whoever's channel this is did an incredible remastering job on it. It's from 1946. I have just about every stereo recording of this concerto - many fine pianists and conductors - but I've never heard anything quite like this. William Kapell is the pianist - died very young in a plane crash - and the conductor is Koussevitzky. The guy's channel is called Private Reserve - I saved him and will be listening to his Rachmaninov remasterings.
