But you can sell back the sick leave when you retire, can't you?

No.  That's why this is significant.  It's technically better than the state who can cash in their sick leave at 25%, right?   This is essentially at 33%.

Oh, I see.

Looking forward to BK's report on that MoFi SACD.  Did it cost a pretty penny?

Got my friends' annual Christmas Eve Eve holiday bash to attend tonight.  It's always good company, and the number of wonderful foodstuffs and drinkstuffs is always astounding.

Happy Noche de los Rabanos (Night of the Radishes) to all who celebrate! (That would likely be just me.)

I had a blood pressure scare yesterday. The dental hygienist took a reading and it was scary high. The doctor's office got me in right away and I am on medication for it for the first time ever. I was afraid I was going to be sent to the ER, which I did not want at all.

I saw Close Encounters at a sneak preview in, if memory serves me correctly, 70mm and 6 track stereo. And I remember that m "socks were knocked off" during the finally. One of the best films.

John Williams is one of my favorite composers and Close Encounters and Stars Wars were played over and over on my record player.

I never liked the extra scenes like the ship in the desert because it was repetative going into the spaceship scene was unnecessary.

It also gave the suggestion that the alien that comes out at the end was Roy Neary transformed. Which I never even thought of when I saw the original version.

I am 99% sure I saw CLOSE ENCOUNTERS at Loew's Paramount (now El Capitan).  I like to leave that one percent for the times my memory inexplicably fails me on these things, but I'll be shocked, shocked, if BK or anyone says this one isn't right.

Last night. we started watching BARRICADE, which I'd recorded off of TCM.

It's a Western remake of THE SEA WOLF, but instead of taking place on the ocean, it's set in a remote mine of some sort.  Raymond Massey plays the Edward G. Robinson role, Dane Clark does the John Garfield part and Ruth Roman stands in for Ida Lupino.

It was really a terrible picture and we turned it off after about a half hour or so.  But, the Technicolor was gorgeous.

Back in the 1970s when I was writing my book on movie remakes, I interviewed the writer, William Sackhiem, and he said "To this very day, I have absolutely no idea why they called it BARRICADE."

No idea what we will watch this weekend.  Nothing at RedBox that I care to see.

Laura, you get together with people you love and celebrate the blessings you've received and the year's harvest. That's about it for the real celebration in Oaxaca. They supposedly parade into town with their prized radishes, but they don't eat them. I eat them. I made a radish salad this morning to take to a party. Just sliced diakon with salt and lime.

I don't know if I'll get to watch anything this weekend. Am still trying to listen to some Christmas music. This morning it was The John Waters Christmas Album. A trash classic.
