Burt Reynolds will always be Michael Arthur Pritchard in At Long Last Love. Say what you will, it was the movie that introduced me to Cole Porter. And it changed my life.

It didn't change my life, but I really like the movie, too.  And I love Mildred Natwick and Madeline Kahn and Eileen Brennan, and even Cybill Shepherd! :D

I once interviewed Charles Strouse. He told me he had to write a score for Burt Reynolds and didn’t even know if Burt Reynolds could sing. I gave him a copy of the album he did that Bobby Goldsboro produced. Reynolds did sing Strouse in All Dogs Go to Heaven.

That's pretty cool, John!

Unless something unforeseen or grisly occurs, I am hopefully finished with Act One of How To Succeed . . . and can proceed to Act Two,

Jane, I hope that at this moment you've completed a very successful surgery and you can relax and have a restful, but speedy recovery.

I've had two more e-mails from the Angry Playwright so there WILL be a part two in the notes.  Amusingly, I responded to the one that just arrived, telling him it looked like he'd be sending e-mails to a different reviewer now - because I'd just found another total pan of his show, the link of which I included to make it easy for him to find it.

My friend Brian from the sandwich shop came by yesterday after his shift. I told him I'd like him to clean like I would do if I still could. He was very thorough, which was exactly what I wanted. He has a good work ethic, a good attitude, and likes to help out. As he cleaned, I assembled the printer cart I purchased from Amazon. I knew I might need a bit of help. Sure enough. Brian supplied the muscle needed and we got the cart set up in my mini home office. It occurred to me this morning that the new, not-yet-purchased printer might be too far from the router when on the cart, but I'll deal with that later.

Brian gets off work at 4pm some days and lives in Orange County. During rush hour it's a 2 1/2 hour drive. Ugh. He can be at my house in 5 minutes and help me out until the traffic clears.

I have a number of projects for him. They didn't faze him. I've had male housecleaners before and in some ways prefer them. They can lift things that I can't and don't mind doing so. I truly hope this continues.

Regarding cars and dealerships:
I've come to really loathe the dealerships. There may be some ethical ones out there, but so many are not. I had my beloved Volvo for 13 years. I had problems with the dealer in Virginia, then far more problems with the dealers here. I took the Volvo to one dealer repeatedly for the same problem. At least four times they told me they didn't know what the problem was, but each time they found something else that needed repair to the tune of approximately $200. Really? When I suggested it might be the transmission, they said, "We don't think so." An independent diagnosed it as a transmission issue and I had it rebuilt.

I was so upset with the dealer that I phoned Volvo USA headquarters. I was told that they couldn't do anything about the problem UNTIL A VOLVO DEALER DIAGNOSED IT AS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. The Headquarters person was very skilled at representing the company's interest and completely tuning out the customer's concerns. I was now even more disgusted.

I'd always planned to, when the time came for another car, buy another Volvo. But when the time came I could not bring myself to do business with any of the Volvo dealers here. I chose an Audi instead and take it to a very good independent mechanic.

Since I don't drive much I now buy my cars used, very clean and with low miles. My independent mechanic will check out any car for $100 or so. I trust their judgement. With the money I save by buying used if there is a problem I can afford to fix it and still come out ahead.

The independents have a different business model than the dealers. Service is all they do. If their customers aren't satisfied they won't return. Dealers, on the other hand, have you locked in due to warranties. Warranties sound great, but don't always pan out. I now do all I can to avoid the dealers for service. I will buy from a dealer, but I take my cars elsewhere for service.

That said, vibes to Vixmom and Vixdad that their car gets fixed properly and promptly.

The cats and I have been watching the BBC adaptation of Trollope's He Knew He Was Right.  Excellent cast.  I love Anna Massey as Aunt Stanhope.

2 -3 lbs of chicken boneless chicken breasts
1 - 1 1/2 lb  white mushrooms
1 large vidalia onion
1/2 Stick of butter
Chicken stock
Flour
Sherry
Pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts (ok I cheat )

Arrange the bottom crust in glass pie dish

Peel and slice the mushrooms, thinly sliced the onion, cook together with 1/4 stick of button over medium heat until nicely golden

Meanwhile slice chicken into bite size pieces

Remove onion.mushrooms and put in pie crust

Put chicken in pan with rest of butter and brown

Add chicken to pie

Put some Sherry and chicken stock in pan, thicken with a little flour until you have a nice gravy add to pie

You can also add some sliced carrots and peas if you like

Put on top crust and bake until golden brown

Well, I need to leave work now and go to my sister's for a little bit.  After that, I'm off to Costco to get some money back.  I bought some protein shakes just last week, and yesterday...just YESTERDAY they went on sale for $5 off EACH!

Since Costco has a very liberal returns policy, I expect that they'll just give me the money back instead of needing me to actually return the items and then turn around and buy them again at the sale price.  At least, that's what I'm hoping for. :)
