I just watched an oldie the likes of which they couldn't make any more with a straight face: Take the High Ground!

The title comes complete with exclamation point. It's a military flick with Richard Widmark, Karl Malden, Russ Tamblyn and well, silliness that somehow earned the script an Oscar nomination way back when.

I also finished the new Barbara Kingsolver, Unsheltered, today. Not one of her better efforts. Very pedantic. Bad dialogue and a fairly redemptive ending. But as bad as it was, it had moments scattered here and there that suggested it could have been much better.

Check your library status online. You should still show the book checked out and download it again on the Kindle. At least that is how my EPUB books work.

Well Jane, that would work if I didn't check it back in as soon as I download it. With my Kindle(s), I do NOT turn on the Wi-Fi. I go online to my library's OverDrive site (or Amazon directly, if I'm actually buying something), then when I check out something, I use the "Transfer via computer" option and download it through a USB cable. That way, it never goes away from my Kindle (except when my Kindle dies) and I can keep it as long as I want, and can take as long as I want to read it.

You are considerate to return them immediately. I would be afraid of exactly what just happened and losing the book I was reading. What a shame the book you are reading is currently popular.

I know...and because I can't even get the Kindle to turn on, I can't see what all was on there.
