I watched Let's Make Waves last night.  I like the theme song sung by The Turtles......and I like most of the cast - Robert Webber is sort of a dud for me in anything he does -

But the special effects are pretty bad.....surprising for an MGM film.....

However any movie with Joanna Barnes is okay by me.....Tony Curtis has his moments as well....along with Dave Draper and Sharon Tate.....

Webber is very good in 12 Angry Men. But he can fade into the wallpaper.

TOD 1:

Radishes. I used to have my annual radish party on Or around Noche de los Rabanos, Dec. 23. They can be globes, icicles, French breakfast, watermelon radishes, Daikon, black radishes, you name it. They can be raw, pickled, sautéed, even grilled. Just give them to me and keep them coming.

Celery. Raw or pickled, in soups, stocks, stuffing, salads, appetizers.

Dog Chester is not happy today.

He is currently at the groomers, getting a bath.

Never a fun activity.

TOD 2:

Since COVID-19 came our way, I have been eating far less meat. I have been eating more vegetables and usually what I’ve always eaten: peas (so good with butter and mint from the garden), green beans, cabbage in many ways, onions, red bell peppers and tomatoes (the last two of which are actually fruits). Soups, salads, baked egg dishes and more are among the various ways I’ve used them.

I have cooked two vegetables recently not in my regular rotation and both were excellent.

Leeks were good as a salad, a side fish, in eggs, you name it.

Chayote squash sautéed in butter were almost like pears, sweet, slightly grainy and delicious.

DR JRand69, the dancer playing the monster in the Frankenstein ballet is Steven McRae, an Australian dancer who's one of the Royal Ballet's biggest stars.  He apparently works with a modeling agency and wears very little when he poses for photographers.

DR George, I hope Neve has a cold and not this herpes virus that's driving Annabelle crazy and working my last nerve.

Thanks, Larry!  I hope not, too!  She's actually sneezed on my a few times! :o I got a text back from the vet that I e-mailed last night and they said that the earliest they could see Neve is August 21, so I should contact another vet...which is what I'm going to have to do. :P Hopefully, someone will be able to see her!

For a day with no plans, it has become such a day.  I decided to clean out the file cabinets next to the computer and that turned into a day of more hell than I ever imagined, partly because of two snoopy cats, partly because once I'm on the floor I need a derrick to get me to my feet, and partly because of my fear of poisoning the cats I have a roach problem.  The pet-friendly solutions for the most part really suck.

So what I thought was a simple task turned out to involve a bottle of boric acid, an effort to keep the cats out of the poison, the dustbuster, the vacuum cleaner, and the mop.  At the height of the madness, the phone rang, and as I struggled to rise off the floor to answer the phone, some delivery man began ringing my door buzzer.  I wanted to kill.

I just ordered pizza and mozzarella salad for dinner.  I don't feel like dealing with the stove tonight.

I love Neil Young, too. He’s incredibly versatile and talented, always trying something new.

Yes, broccoli and cauliflower! So damned satisfying.

All of those things fall in line with my tastes.

As for onion rings, it's nearly impossible to find a place that serves them the "real" way, that I grew up loving, with a real batter and actually deep fried. You can get pretty close to that at places that make an onion "loaf". I never tried making onion rings at home, though.

Eagan's here in Tumwater has the beer batter-type onion rings, which I don't love...they're good, but they're not my favorite.  Red Wagon, a local burger joint where I'm going for lunch today, has really good thick-cut onion rings.  I think they use panko crumbs and some kind of seasoning in the breading.  I really do like these!

Here's an interesting double bill, the Mahagonny Songspiel, forerunner of the complete opera, and Poulenc's Les mamelles de Tirésias.

That's pretty cool.  I'll have to watch it later.

I think they used to MESMERIZE dress shirts so that they wouldn't shrink in the wash.

Is that anything like Hollanderizing? ;)

Our new Conversations With Jack is up!  At the end of the interview, during the listing of our donors, I changed the music - just to amuse myself and the Broadway buffs here at HHW.  You can certainly move to the end....and sing along.

Very enjoyable, Jrand!
