The Gertrude and the Ophelia look alike. Freud would have liked that.

A comedian, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, is doing 26 performances at the Tobin. I am ushering for two in the same evening. But I doubt they’ll get ushers for all of them without begging. And pleading.

Apparently he’s filming the show.

And some unknown local ballet company is doing the Wheedon Alice in Wonderland ballet in our small theater.

When the main ballet company did it a few years back, they used the original designs. Wonder what this one will be like. They are using Wheedon’s name.

Ophelia’s mad scene was something to behold. In this version, she cuts her chest as if to cut out her heart, then slashes her wrists. The blood is everywhere, but it’s the soprano’s grief and madness that make it heartbreaking.

Finished watching Shock Corridor and did a quick visit to Gelson's for some creamed spinach, Muenster cheese, and some nuts - all carb light.

Now listening to more music. I found some stuff in the garage - homemade CD stuff, so when I'm done with the current Ormandy selection, I'll take a break and see what's what on these homegrown things.

That opera was a really nice surprise. The librettist trimmed the story down to the barest essentials. Polonius wasn't really a character, neither were Horatio or Laertes. No Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. It was down to Hamlet, Ophelia, Gertrude, Claudius and the ghost. But it left enough room for some wonderful music, some strong characters and some really terrific voices.

He was on Last Comic Standing years ago.  He's funny!

That is interesting about the Olympic, DR TCB.  I had never even heard of it!   Thanks for the photo link, DR George.

I am glad you enjoyed it.  I got a million of ‘em. Okay, maybe a dozen or so.

Actually the film of Titanic pulling away from the dock in Southampton is actually film of the Olympic.  There was no film of the Titanic setting sail.

I should have mentioned last night that many of the actual Titanic photos were taken by a Jesuit priest, Francis Browne, who sailed from Southampton to Queenstown on the Titanic before getting off the ship.  The two day trip was a present from a relative.

He was lucky it was only 2 days.

Actually, Father Francis met a couple at dinner the first night onboard.  They were so impressed by the priest that they offered to pay for his ticket for the remainder of the voyage and his return to the UK.

Fortunately (for him), when he sent a message asking permission, he received back almost immediately a reply telling him to GET OFF THAT SHIP - NOW!
