In one dream, which took place centuries ago I was a boy living in a castle with my sister. My mother was dead, ad my stepmother was plotting to kill us off with her lover. The country was very barren and cold and we were all smothered in heavy robes and furs, and I joined my father and court for a dragon hunt. It sounds very Game of Thrones, but I have never seen an episode or read the books.

Today, I need to call my pharmacy about a prescription I need for Monday's prostate procedure, send my regular caregiver a message about the insurance mess, call the radiologist's office and see if they have learned anything positive, and if necessary, call Emblem Health again. I think things are fine, but I will not be certain until everyone agrees.

I have never had Shrimp Louis, but it certainly seems like the Smokehouse would be exactly the kind of place where it should be enjoyed.

Today, in 1903, the Victor Herbert-Glen MacDonough extravaganza Babes in Toyland opened at Broadway's Majestic Theatre at Columbus Circle. The show opened in June at Chicago's Grand Opera House for a summer run, and then began a tour through Pittsburg, Baltimore, and DC's National Theatre before opening on Broadway. Along the way, songs were dropped, cast changes were made, and one new song, "I Can't Do the Sum," was added for the Broadway opening. became the hit song and it made Mabel Barrison, who played one opf the two Babes, a star.

Here's a song no one knows since it was cut on Jube 16, 1903 after the Chicago opening:

Recently, a trove of Caroline Seidle's original costume designs for Babes in Toyland turned up. Until then, I only knew that three designs existed at the NY Library for Performing Arts. Seidle was a leading designer at the time and the Metropolitan Opera used her quite a lot. Her husband was the Met's prop master.
