I am almost disoriented, with no morning or even afternoon obligations. :)

Not only today, but for the next few weeks! Xfinity/Comcast is coming out Monday instead of today (I moved it) to check things over, and I have my teeth cleaning and checkup on Tuesday. After that, we'll see...

Today, rest and ketchup on many things.

And I have a lovely play to attend this evening:

The opening of Moon Over Buffalo directed by Diana Canova. It will be great to see it again, and to see her. Last time I saw her was the opening to her Moon Over Buffalo at the other theeder. That was great, but I just "know" the production at this theeder, as a whole, is going to be better in many ways.

Vixmom, I know the pee-new-monia can take it out of a person. Take it easy when you can, and gain that strength back.

Musically, the next thing on my calendar as of right now is playing Keyboard 2 in Evita which runs in July. Yesterday I was browsing through the part, and while I'm happy to finally have a production to participate in, the bizarre changes in the score that happened - I dunno, at least a decade ago? - are positively disheartening.

The best way to explain that is that, in general, some of Sir Andrew's musical style (probably some orchestration, too) that many of us loved in the original have been altered. Let me put it another way. They've been dumbed down. Made more ordinary. Is it the same show? Pretty much. Same score? Sure, except for the inclusion of a song apparently written for Madonna in the movie that, to my ears, doesn't sound in the least like the rest of the score. But of course people must have movie songs, just as in other shows, and everyone will adore it.

Here's a hilarious (to me) little text change I know from reading the score:

The macabre ending phrases are no longer sung/portrayed by embalmers. (The embalming of Eva Peron was actually a "thing" at the time.) Now they're mourners. I guess we can't have embalmers in a musical now. What is this world coming to?

A few weeks ago I was driving home late one night and tuned the car radio to a local station that's mostly classical with some jazz on weekend nights. The host had apparently just played some Frank Loesser song, and I suddenly heard him say "Arthur Loesser". I'd just tuned in and had missed what he was saying, but it sounded like his own former teacher had been a student of Loesser's. This guy is a locally known pianist, and that was obviously of interest to him. I've sent him a note asking what the whole story was. In the meantime, it got me going down the Loesser rabbit hole, and I've found a few more rare recordings of him I need to acquire. That's always fun and rewarding.

I had to go to the basement with the garbage. I checked the washers since I lost a green tea towel on Wednesday. It was still in the washer, along with a pair of underwear. Oy!

2.5 inches of rain measured at 7. And it continues to rain. Supposedly we need 27 inches of rain to get out of drought restrictions. So, anything helps.

I've posted these links here, but with over 500 guests here, maybe some of them will click on some of these.  (And as they used to say about reruns, if you haven't seen them, they're new to you. :) )

With the Tonys coming up, offering our annual parody video rundown salute to the 2024-25 season's Tony nominations - some things we didn't dare kid, but thought deserved musical comment anyway, other things it felt safe to kid.

Very rich theatergoers were a story of the year:  SALUTE TO THE INSANE OUT-OF-CONTROL GROSSES FOR nominees GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK and GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS and also non-nominee OTHELLO - feat. David Mamet SRO at the Palace!

"We Coughed Up for Shakespeare"

GYPSY - The Colbert show performance, where to online chatters it seemed they'd deliberately chosen to play the emotions of "Rose's Turn" for then performance of "Some People"-
We didn't dare do a spoof  - so to be totally safe, a revival of our spoof of the psychotic Madame Rose that Imelda Staunton had done in London,

"Some Roses"

JUST IN TIME - This one we DID dare spoof:  Since Best Actor nominee Jonathan Groff himself has such open fun making fun of his own sweating and spitting, our parody-tribute to his Bobby Darin.

"Mack the Knife Parody"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3eaFLReem8

A WONDERFUL WORLD: THE LOUIS ARMSTRONG MUSICAL -  nominated for Best Actor, James Monroe Iglehart.
We offered a parody of the feel-good "What a Wonderful World" - a more realistic feel-less-good "2025 update"

"What a One-Percent World!"
