Congratulations again to DR MichaelG on the satisfying Otello run.

And a "whew!" for the keyboardist.

I'd meant to ask earlier if you knew why they wouldn't have just hired a mandolin player. I don't believe they're a particularly rare commodity. But since I obviously know nothing about how anyone is compensated for playing, or even if it's volunteer work, or what conflicts might have existed for various players, it's just a question out of, you know, my ASS.  8)

I'm trying to post something with a tiny (65 kb) image attached, and I'm getting:

Tried a test post using a different tiny image. No go.

Can anyone else upload?

Belated Anniversary wishes to Jeith.

Love coining the name Jeith!

Like HHW's own Bennifer or Brangelina, except the Jeith marriage has lasted.

I just discovered this amusement park that was in DRs Ginny's and Elmore's territory, even though it never closed for good until 1999. But I'm sure there are hundreds of these I never knew about and I wish I had.

From Wiki:

"Founded by Edgar Streifthau, the park originally opened in 1922 as a family picnic destination with swimming amenities. Throughout the 1940s, LeSourdsville Lake transformed into an amusement park with the addition of rides, attractions, and an arcade. The park was sold in 1961, and following heavy competition from nearby Kings Island, it was rebranded Americana Amusement Park in 1978. An electrical fire in 1990 caused over $5 million in damages and led to bankruptcy. The park continued to operate under several different owners before eventually closing in 1999."

Success!  I tried completely shutting down the computer, and the upload worked.  Isn't that just WEIRD?

I loved LeSourdsville Lake! In the 1960s and 70s, I loved to swim there. I often took my brother Randy with me. My mother loved The Cyclone, the roller coaster, and the Belgian waffles were amazing. It was about a 15-minute drive from Middletown.

The other swimming hole was the pool in Sunset Park, also a thing of the past.

JRand may remember a very similar place. Indiana Beach on Lake Shafer in Monticello, Indiana.

Indiana Beach lasted until 2020 and may have been resurrected. Unclear.

I was wondering that too, but I imagine it's a combination of 1) the keyboardist was already involved in the show as a rehearsal pianist and helping out our chorus director who was having some vision issues during the run, 2) there was no room for the extra player in our limited pit so the keyboard was in the basement and mic'ed in; they have a lot more practice with that setup that trying to amplify and balance a mandolin.

The pit at our WPA-era theater is so small that the winds, brass, and percussion used to be scattered at different locations in the building and linked via video and audio cabling. Several years ago the general director said the heck with this, and now we use scaffolds on stage left and right to house the winds, brass and percussion. This sounds much better but it does cut down our usable stage space to maintain sight lines to the conductor. We might have had room for a mandolin if the score didn't also call for a harp.

I'm sorry but I don't think "JUST IN...Mexico renames the Liberty Bell the TACO Bell." is funny.  It just makes me want to cry.
