I tried sleeping on my back last night, and it worked pretty well. The hand went to sleep several times but so so ntense or painful as it has been. Thatch and Annabelle took care of me. Even Stella stopped by for a long stretch.

Then, I got up to find one of the cats had vomited in the water bowl, and that was a gross unpleasant situation. It clearly happened not long after I put out fresh water yesterday afternoon since I recognized the chunks floating in it, and that means the cats had no access to water all night. I feel bad about that.

It's already hot and humid: time to turn on the AC.

DR ChasSmith, around 1945 Noel Coward wrote a London revue Sigh No More, in which Joyce Grenfell had a number, "That is the End of the News," in which she sang:
Heigh-ho hey diddle diddle
Aunt Isobel's shingles have met in the middle.

Thankfully, I just have the same slight achey feeling the day after, similar to the covid shots. This is not a complaint, and I deliberately scheduled it so I’d have nothing to do today.

Having now enjoyed BK’s Drat!, I’m amazed to be reminded that the original ran an hour longer. My first guess is the difference in the two “ballets”, but that don’t account for an hour!

This here site is still a mite laggy.

Because a "But Alive!" verse seems to be called for:

And we are leggy and logy and laggy.
Loose as a hustler and tight as a baggie.
But online!
That's the thing!
But online!

The "laggy" is getting worse, it seems.

I'm pretty sure both ballets ran ten minutes each - I wasn't having that. Our Keystone Kop ballet replaced a Kabuki ballet - I didn't understand a Kabuki ballet and I certainly wasn't going to do one in today's world and with an entire set of new costumers. I gather Joe Layton's production had a LOT of staging comedy with an intricate set. We didn't. And pace is everything. Theirs was probably two-twenty-five with a fifteen-minute intermission. That's what most B'way musicals ran.

No different than what I did with Li'l Abner - I'm not Michael Kidd so we cut down the act one ballet as much as we could, but with Abner I did cut Oh Happy Day because not only do I not like the song, it gave away the muscle man version of the Dogpatch husbands and it just robs the moment when the wives finally see them. And I thought the perfect act two start was I'm Past My Prime - gets us right back into the PLOT and the characters we actually care about. But I paced that show like a speeding train and that also rant two-forty on B'way - we ran about 1:55 plus the intermission.

Dial 'M' for Murder - a three-act play, two ten-minute intermissions and usually runs two-thirty. Well, the movie doesn't run two-thirty and neither did we. So, most productions run two-ten PLUS the two intermissions. We ran exactly two hours WITH the two intermissions. All pacing.

The ONLY show I've ever directed that ran longer than I'd have liked was The Man Who Came to Dinner - it's just a long play and then if you have me and Barry Pearl creating a Banjo like none before, well, laughs like that add more time. But I tried.
