The New York Times review of THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES is a Critic's Pick.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/09/theater/queen-of-versailles-broadway-chenoweth.html

"CRITIC’S PICK
In ‘The Queen of Versailles,’ Kristin Chenoweth Can’t Get Enough
Material excess can never be too excessive for the central character of this gilded Broadway musical, based on the 2012 film."

When I woke this morning, I thought the room looked brighter than when the alarm usually rings. Sure enough, it was 6:30.

So, I checked the alarm; it was set for 5:30. I checked the alarm volume; it was set at 0 - no sound, nada, zilch - and this is the second time this has occurred. I keep it at a 7 out of 10 sound notches, so there's either a battery issue or my phone is dying.

DR Rodzinski, I have the mp3 files of the 2004 Pittsnurgh recording of James Joyce's The Dead. If you'd like that, let me know. Criterion is releasing a new DVD of John Huston's wonderful film version.

One of these moments I'll fall back asleep. As to the NY Times, that woman is the worst critic that's EVER been there - she's temporary while they find a lead critic. Read the OTHER reviews because 90% of them are TERRIBLE.

BK, what do you mean by temporary?  I don't think she's considered chief theater critic, since Elisabeth Vincentelli seems to do as many of the major openings.

I mean she's temporary while they find a lead critic. And she's terrible. Adam Feldman told me this.

Thank you, I have heard this, but what I’d really like is the original Broadway cast. Emily Skinner, Blair Brown, Christopher Walken, Marni Nixon, etc. I have nostalgia for their performances.

Snow on the roof and car tops and trees.....but none on the streets and sidewalks.

Tomorrow temps will be up to 41 degrees.

Low 30's and mid 20's today.

I played Mortimer in The Fantasticks.

Every night when I started my speech about dying onstage, El Gallo walked between me and the audience.

After he did it a third time I called him on it and he said: "I was just trying to get out of your way."

I said: "Don't do it again." He didn't, but had he done so he would found out that I also could change my blocking during some of his blowhard drivel.

Most of the reviews I read for Versailles were poor to middling

https://playbill.com/article/read-the-reviews-for-the-queen-of-versailles-on-broadwa

But the posts on Facebook have been vicious. If audiences don’t like the show, it’s doubtful the NYT will help for long. It sounds like it needs the Nine or Wish You Were Here treatment. Keep working.

I hear ya. I’m surprised there isn’t some in-house audio that hasn’t been released.

Both were heavily rewritten and retooled after opening.

I think the work done on Nine was what led it to beat Dreamgirls for the Tony that year.
