The New York Times review of THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES is a Critic's Pick.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/09/theater/queen-of-versailles-broadway-chenoweth.html

"CRITIC’S PICK
In ‘The Queen of Versailles,’ Kristin Chenoweth Can’t Get Enough
Material excess can never be too excessive for the central character of this gilded Broadway musical, based on the 2012 film."

Very cool!

Today is my brother Macbeth's 77th birthday. I will celebrate by ignoring it.

Good for you. ;)

One of these moments I'll fall back asleep. As to the NY Times, that woman is the worst critic that's EVER been there - she's temporary while they find a lead critic. Read the OTHER reviews because 90% of them are TERRIBLE.

Oh, my! :o

DR Rodzinski, I have the mp3 files of the 2004 Pittsnurgh recording of James Joyce's The Dead. If you'd like that, let me know. Criterion is releasing a new DVD of John Huston's wonderful film version.

Thank you, I have heard this, but what I’d really like is the original Broadway cast. Emily Skinner, Blair Brown, Christopher Walken, Marni Nixon, etc. I have nostalgia for their performances.

Who doesn't. :-\

I played Mortimer in The Fantasticks.

Every night when I started my speech about dying onstage, El Gallo walked between me and the audience.

After he did it a third time I called him on it and he said: "I was just trying to get out of your way."

I said: "Don't do it again." He didn't, but had he done so he would found out that I also could change my blocking during some of his blowhard drivel.

;D

Most of the reviews I read for Versailles were poor to middling

https://playbill.com/article/read-the-reviews-for-the-queen-of-versailles-on-broadwa

But the posts on Facebook have been vicious. If audiences don’t like the show, it’s doubtful the NYT will help for long. It sounds like it needs the Nine or Wish You Were Here treatment. Keep working.

Interesting.

I think the work done on Nine was what led it to beat Dreamgirls for the Tony that year.

Interesting! I hadn't known about that.

Great excuse  ::)

Just curious, shouldn't the director have called him out on it?

Good meeting lasting 40 minutes. Feb.  2027, ballet concert at North Carolina School of the Arts. I asked for 14 players; if the concert also becomes the orchestra concert, I may have 40!
