I got a cold during the last weekend of J&H and the worst of it is over, but I've had this lingering cough this whole time since, so I figured that I'd better do something about it because Shelly has also been sick for the last several days.

Alas, the second act didn't work as well as the first act. It catches us up on what happened (more or less) after the documentary came out. But it can't resolve the fundamental problem of why we should care about this couple.

The cast is all fabulous and the sets and costumes are stunning. It was a real treat to see Chenoweth and Abraham live on stage - I might have seen him before, but not her.

Younger performers Nina White and Tatum Grace Hopkins were especially fine as Victoria and Jonquil.

But even with all the clever adaptation ideas that I enjoyed, like using the real Versailles as a framing device, this show is pretty tone deaf for a week where Epstein, his billionaire buddies, and his victims have come to the fore so much. The performers can't fix that.

Act one worked because it ends with the crash, so you think they are getting what they deserve, like in the film. But it is not to be.

Yes, I enjoyed the score. For me, "Pretty Wins" was the standout number. I expect DR ChasSmith and others will be playing it at auditions for young actresses for years to come.
