Last night I dreamed that Joshie and I were cleaning up the dreadful rental materials for Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris.
Whoa. What a subject for a dream!
My first theeder involvement in this area, in 1992, was as rehearsal pianist for a community production, and I ended up playing their opening weekend because of some delay or other with the person who was supposed to do it. (I believe I got reviewed favorably, under the other person's name, because no mention was made of the substitution.)
Anyway, it was a small production that I'm sure had very little to recommend it, in addition to the fact that it was only piano. But I look at the copy of the score I made, and am stunned to think that I played all those rehearsals, and that one weekend, with that. (I haven't looked at it in a while -- there were no vocal parts on the piano/instrumental score, right? I had to use the vocal book to pound the notes? I need to take it out and get to know it again.)
The vocal parts are in the vocal book.
