How utterly annoying, DR John G.

TOD

It was probably when I saw The First Nudie Musical -- because, in the decade that we like to call the 1970s, I just happened to be watching very little TV.

I’m sitting in parking lot of the school waiting for some new assignments for the day.

Fingers crossed.

The par-tay at the director's house was great. It was the kind of cast party you want to have. With but six adults in the show, all of them wonderful people who have known each other for years, and most of whom have great taste and abilities in the foodstuffs department, we had a remarkably good time.

But boy, was I exhausted on finally getting home. I think I felt exhausted even while sleeping through the night. Hell's Bells, I was as tired as Lili Von Shtupp, though for different reasons.

In honor of BK’s mention of Paul Anka.

The staging is odd. There’s no chemistry between the singers. They never look at each other. Their voices, though, make it worthwhile.

I had a text when I got home, and had to give my regrets --

I don't think anyone I know is involved in whatever theeder it is, but someone's MD/pianist for a holiday show in Westchester County was in a car accident and is presently unable to play. And their show is this weekend. Of course we have two more weekends of our own show, and I can only hope they find someone fast, since their dress rehearsals are, like, tonight through Thursday. What a horrible situation. Unthinkable. I wish them (and the unfortunate person) the best.

I am heartened to see the NY Times actually calling out the Lack of Geography in the Merrily film:

Friedman, a longtime friend and collaborator of Sondheim, has regarded "Merrily" as a passion project, and she directs this filmed version of her own stage show, with the company RadicalMedia, who also made the live stage recording of "Hamilton" for Disney+. In immortalizing this musical, allowing it to be savored by new audiences, she's done a precious and admirable thing: seeing Radcliffe tear through "Franklin Shepard, Inc.," or the core trio clown and dazzle with "Bobby and Jackie and Jack," remains a gift.

But as a film director, Friedman adds little and, occasionally, inadvertently subtracts: This "Merrily" is too reliant on close-ups and frenetic cutting, which simply distract from the moving, beating heart of this wonderful play.

That's especially unfortunate because the Hamilton video is very likely the most perfect blend of visual viewpoints ever accomplished, which I know is saying a lot.

All of that said, I really look forward to the Merrily film, regardless.

Well, I was too impatient to wait for the bank. So, I am back online with new password and user name.

Now comes the bad news: my bank will only deal with Zelle on a smart phone, which I do not own. So, my publisher jumped the gun by using Zelle yesterday. I then got a text from Zelle telling me I had money and I needed to download the Zelle app.
And all hell began. I appreciate his concern to help me out, but I assumed I could use the app on an iMac.

Happy Birthday, BK!  The first time I remember seeing your name was when DR Elmore sent me Liz Callaway’s Frank Loesser CD.  I will play it today in your honor.

I think my first look at BK was in 1980 when I first saw The First Nudie Musical. I went back later that night to see it again, and the next day I bought the soundtrack recording. After that, I would occasionally see BK in a TV commercial.

I misread something a couple weeks back and jumped the gun on a birthday wish. How embarraskin’!  So I say again, happy birthday dear BK, the founder of this feast and a fine, fine gentleman.

BK was a face I recognized from many things in the ‘70s. Laverne & Shirley, Partridges, etc. Then when I was a bit older, seeing First Nudie on Showtime late at night. Later would read about it in Danny Peary’s Cult Movies book. Some time around the turn of the millennium, my friend was obsessed with The Creature Wasn’t Nice and got me into that. I looked up BK to see what he was up to, wrote him an email via some other website but eventually was led here to this one.

DR Elmore, that's horrible about the Zelle mess. Surely -- SURELY! (don't call me, etc.) -- they can simply cancel the transaction.

Much like DR Ginny, I cherish this week as one in which to ketchup and putter.

Actually, there's so much to do that "putter" isn't quite the right word ... but it will feel wonderful, regardless.

One thing online says about Zelle.

Enrollment is mandatory: If you do not enroll to receive the money within 14 days of the sender initiating the payment, the transfer will expire, and the funds will be returned to the sender's account.

Not a quick solution, but even if your sender does nothing, the money will go back to him.

Though since you did enroll but don’t have a smartphone, maybe his cancellation is necessary.

I just called Zelle support, and this information is correct.

Well, I don't think the enrollment went through because I was not on a cell phone. I just do not know for certain. The other problem is that I'm not sure that Zelle support will get youi to a live person.

Happy Birthday to Mr. Bruce Kimmel.

Here is a slide show I created about 7 years ago, so it is a bit out of date....but the sentiment is there.

I first saw MR BK on the Partridge Family and I kept thinking I was seeing him in other things but sometimes the cast listing said Wes Stern.

Then like DR RODZINSKI I read about NUDIE MUSICAL in Danny Peary's book CULT FILMS.

In 2002 or 2003 former DR JMK would ask me questions and I would help him figure them out. He finally told me that the questions came from this here website - in a different configuration - and the winners would get a sparkling prize. So I started posting in 2004 or so.

I don't think at that time you had to JOIN....and it was more of a message board where you could write anything and sign any name....I know I commented many times as Ethel Merman, Ethel Mertz, and Dorothy Provine.

I even won a couple of sparkling prizes. And the fun has never ceased.

The pair of keets particularly enjoyed "High Hopes" and sang along with a bit of harmony.

TOD: My first notice of BK was seeing the credit on all these wonderful Bay Cities CDs I was buying when they came out, especially those of music by Howard Hanson and Roy Harris.
