Yes, it’s long lost DR Jeanne here to wish happy birthday to both BK and Jane (a day late, sorry).

I’ve been sucked into some weird home-buying vortex, which doesn’t want to let me exit. We closed escrow on Halloween (a good omen or bad?) after by far the worst escrow I’ve ever been through. The mortgage people wanted all the documents yesterday and were rude and sexist. I was ready to tell them to shove it. Fortunately, the worst offender went on vacation and the fill-in was pleasant and easy to work with. But they still almost didn’t have the final docs ready. It as horrible.

The place is mine now. But I expected the painter/handyman to start two weeks ago. Oh, yes, he took vacation for a week, which he’d never mentioned. We are at a standstill. I still have a humongous amount of tossing and packing to do, plus catching up on all I postponed while signing 1001 documents. I don’t know when I’ll be moving, which I get asked almost daily.

Re: Zelle.
I had a horrible experience with it. Others use it with no problem. In my case, the culprit was USBank. Their fraud detectors (software) flags it when they see a Zelle transaction because many Zelle transactions are fraudulent. So you flag them all? Yes. The software is dumb. They shut down my main checking account for 48 hours. But why? They made no effort to determine if the transaction really was fraud. The following Monday I was on the phone with them to straighten it out. The finally released the hold, but then the same thing happened two days later. They shut down my account. I had a chat with someone in their fraud department, who apologized and said this shouldn’t have happened. No, but unless you fix the software it will continue to happen.

You cannot use Zelle with USBank or any other bank who assumes that all Zelle transactions are fraudulent. I’ve moved most of my business away from them.

Larry, I’m sorry you, too, had trouble.
(Why did two little cat faces appear on my keyboard just now? Purple cat faces. WE all associate cats with Elmore, but how did iPad software know? Very strange.)

There is an author I like, David Rosenfelt, that publishes a Christmas themed book every October. I usually save it to read as my birthday treat read. This year I timed the book to finish reading it on the 6th so I could make Richard and Me my birthday treat read.

Even though I never actually had time to curl up on the couch for a good birthday read, I never slept the night before and was extra glad I had my birthday treat to keep me company.

I am now half way through this wonderful book.
