There is something to be said for that.

Run-through was a little sloppy for my taste. Act one ran fifty minutes, so that act is very close to what I want it to be.

Act two ran fifty-five and is ten minutes too long- but in that act the line calls were way too frequent, and then they'd go back a few lines and do it again, etc. I don't think it will be hard to get it down - the entire courtroom scene was too slow so if we shave five minutes off that fifteen or twenty, we'll be very close.

After the run-through, we went back to the top and I got through the first half of act one doing detail work. I changed some blocking, added a bit of ography, changed an entrance location, and worked on the timing.

Now I'm home and about to start futzing and finessing and then writing new pages. My goal for the next ninety minutes is futzing and finessing and then writing at least six new pages and then later four more.

Listening to two BBC treatments of John Webster plays, The Duchess of Malfi and The White Devil. The darkest of evil hearts are flayed here. Ugly, ugly behavior. Fascinating.

Are these audio or BBC broadcasts? The 1970s BBC televised Duchess of Malfi, with Eileen Atkins is on YouTube.

I’ll have to watch that. Thank you.

I went outside to water plants and plant two irises. I had my mask on, but it didn’t help much.

John, was it a standard paper mask? I wore Breathe Healthy allergy masks all through Covid and found them to be both more comfortable and better-fitting than paper masks.

Escape-the-pollen vibes!

It was a K-95 or whatever those are called.

I used to love the Walla Walla Sweet Onion dressing.

Yes. Maybe a tad sweet, but delicious.

My favorite salad has to be a traditional Greek salad. No lettuce. Just ultra-fresh tomatoes, Kalamata olives, bell peppers, red onion, maybe capers and a slab of feta cheese on top. Drizzle your finest olive oil on top and sprinkle a little dried Greek oregano over the whole plate.

The Cretan version comes with bits of stale rusk to soak up the oil, maybe sliced cold potato and possibly anchovies.

Laurence Olivier hammed it up royally. His French Canadian accent was ridiculous.
